I love that I can provide an updated 5 star review for Dog Training Now. Henry has now done three classes with Dog Training Now. One was a refresher week and the other was the off leash program. I did do the board and train which was worth every penny. He had a great experience both times. After the first refresher week, he still had to work on a few things that have been a problem: jumping and being away from me. Since I had a few weeks between the refresher course and the off leash program, I spent a lot of time working on Henry's jumping and his comfort with being away from me (he still hates it to be honest...but his time whining after I put him in his crate away from me is steadily decreasing. I swear he really wants to try my patience here!) He boarded with Allison (who is fantastic and kept in touch with me the entire off leash program...we love her) and he responded fantastically to the off leash program. I loved all the photos and videos posted to Facebook. He has been home several days now and each day we practice 2-3 times for about 10-15 minutes. Henry is doing it all perfectly. I have had fun making some difference place areas in the house and having him stay, heel, etc. More importantly, my neighborhood is filled with little kids. Henry loves to lay in the front yard and over the past two days, he has stayed laying on the ground when the kiddos come over to pet him. Can't stop all the kisses he loves to give, but he is much more calm with the excitability happening around him with little kids (especially on bikes, with dolls in hand, etc.). He has also done great off leash in my neighborhood filled with barking dogs and traffic rolling by. The next steps for Henry include the Good Canine Citizen test (which I'm pretty confident he will do well on) and then eventually therapy dog training. Dog Training Now has really set him up for success, and I have to keep it going in order for it all to stick. They gave him a base that I did not have the time to dedicate and for that I am so grateful. Your dog is only as good as the time you spend with him/her!! Please don't take your dog here. I had my dog do the two weeks training without any issues. Recently took him back for a one week refresher and when I picked him up he was severely dehydrated. He couldn't go up the stairs, jump on the couch, and didn't even want to be touched. We spent two days at the animal hospital and several days feeding him via syringe. He started to poop blood. My vet said it was something he ingested that gave him and told me if I'm the third day he didn't eat or drink on his own he would have to be hospitalized and feed via tube. The owners response was that is a common bacteria and it can happen when dogs are boarding. 80 percent of dogs get it. So if 80 percent of their dogs get it that is frightening! Please don't go through the nightmare I had to live through. Our dogs are part of our family, they can't tell us what happens, and according to Dog training now, neither can they. read more

We adopted our dog Lucky on 11/3/16. She was afraid to walk on a leash and when took her to puppy preschool she would hide under our chair. After two sessions of puppy preschool Lucky was walking on a leash, interacting with other dogs, walking the agility course, accustomed to bicycles and vacuum cleaners. We went away the first week in December and we did a board and train. Judy took Lucky home with her at night. Before we left, Lucky was house broken to pee pee pads but had a lot of accidents on our carpet.When we returned, Lucky knew all of her basic commands: Sit, stay, down, heel, place, short and Long stay, auto sit and she was completely potty trained. In fact, she was potty trained to go on command. AMAZING.... We took another trip at the end of January 2017 and again we did a board and train. Jackie took Lucky home with her at night and she gave us daily progress reports while we were gone. This time, Lucky was trained not to jump on people and how to sit when a stranger approached with another dog. Now, Lucky is in off leash training. We are training her to be a therapy dog. During her trainings, she has NEVER appeared anxious, fearful or nervous. She loves going to the studio at Dog Training Now and greets everyone as if they are long lost friends. The trainers and staff are ALWAYS courteous, helpful and ALWAYS gentle with the dogs. If I could rate them a million stars, I would do so. I have never seen them mistreat a dog. They are absolutely wonderful. However, we learned that a dog owner MUST continue to work with their dog at home, otherwise the training isn't effective. Our 9 month old Golden Retriever Shadow graduated today from Dog Training Now's 2-week day training program. He was a great dog to start, but is now even better! Loved our experience with Dog Training Now & would recommend them to anyone! All the staff is nice and knowledgeable. I used dog training now months ago for my adopted dog Rizzo and the 4 week intensive training. As a large puppy, he was a handful and DTN gave me the tools and resources to tighten up his behaviors. He did not come out of his 4 week training perfect, because it takes a lot of work beyond training to get any dog to be pristine, but they laid a solid foundation for his growth. Even more so, when I board him, I've had such a wonderful experience with Kellie who is his second mama. She welcomes him in with open arms and takes his doggie kisses with ease. If I could give a negative review with stars I would. My 6 month old puppy started on Monday July 27th. 2015 When I picked her up in the morning the trainer explained how to properly use the prong training collars and told me that if the dog lags behind, never pull her but rather encourage her to "come". When I dropped her off on Tuesday, I watched one of the trainers pull her all the way across the room only to hurry and put her in a cage. When I picked her up in the afternoon, I told the trainer what happened. He said that was really bad and would tell the owner. That evening, I got a call from the owner and she apologized again and again. I thought this was was very professional and thanked her for her call. I told her that I am there to learn as well. When I picked her up on Wednesday I noticed a lot of blood on her neck. I didn't say anything but I did take her home and cleaned her up and put antibacterial ointment on her. I dropped her off on Thursday without the prong collar on and there to receive her was the guy who was there the day my puppy got pulled across the floor. He had a horrible attitude when I walked in and I told him that I didn't have her training collar on and he said he would put it on as he cut me off from talking. I explained why she didn't have her collar on and that she was bleeding and he said show me and I did. He said he would then use a sleeve on her and I asked what a sleeve was and he told me. He took her across the room to put her in a cage and I was standing at the door watching her. He turned to me and said "you do her more harm by standing there and you should leave". He said "seriously". So I shook my head and left. He of all people should have understood my concern. Moments later I get a call from the owner telling me I am not a good fit for the program. I asked her if her trainer called her and she said yes. I said I wasn't surprised as he probably thought I was going to call her first because I am sure he knew how unprofessional he was. The bottom line is I think they probably have some good trainers but something bad happened to my puppy. I think they just wanted to get rid of me as a customer for liability reasons. There are other reviews out here where other dogs were mis treated by them as well. I think the owner Judy is a nice person but the way she handled this was ALL WRONG. I paid for a service and never received it. That guy should have been apologizing to me not giving me an attitude. She should "train" her employees to act as professionals and not allow them to be rude to her customers, costing her business. read more

LOVE this place so much! We had tried out three or four different puppy classes in the area before finding out about this one and once we started, we were hooked! It is like the Zoom Room (if you are familiar) but it picks up where the Zoom Room leaves off by focusing on socialization for puppies. 1. the prices are extremely competitive / cheaper than the competition for a MUCH better class experience. We paid like $20 a class, which seems like a lot, but most classes in the suburbs and city were at least $35 a class (and if you think $20 is too expensive for a puppy class, then go to Petco and waste your time AND money on training that won't work. This place is legit and well worth the price!). They even use other dogs they are privately training as examples during the class and it's obvious the private training methods work. 2. The owner, Judy, is also super sweet and really knows her stuff. She is so gentle with the dogs and they usually have at least two other trainers helping out with the puppies during the class to keep things moving. Her staff are also really knowledgeable and sweet and can answer any questions you have about your puppy. No one was condescending or mean. They keep a careful eye on the class. 3. Our favorite aspect of the puppy class was that it was all about socialization. They do "pass the puppy" (exactly what it sounds like) and even playtime. They also try to do confidence building exercises like A-frames and ramps (thought the A-frame is probably too steep for many puppies and should be lowered). It has been great for socializing our dog! The puppy class is perfect for dogs 8 weeks to 6 months that need socialization with both dogs, people, vacuums, and weird obstacles. Could not be happier with our decision to attend this class!!! read more

I know I made the right decision by choosing DTN. My 20 month shepherd/husky mix was well behaved for me at home, but a handful with other dogs and some men became his arch nemesis. I was also always nervous that he would get too excited around kids or pull on my elderly mother if she tried to walk him. I chose the 20 day program since my goal is to be able to take my guy camping/hiking and be confident at the dog park where he is off leash. An E collar was the best option for me, so I did a bit of research and found DTN. I appreciate that they do not treat train. I mean seriously, I don't carry around snacks everywhere I go, but I still need him to know I expect him to listen. I was skeptical about using a prong collar when I just wanted to learn an Ecollar, but the quick results changed my mind immediately. It's almost like a service dog jacket, my pup knows it's time to work. Why you might want to send your pup to this school? 1. Staff, staff, staff...my dog likes people. He loves the staff at DTN! He can't get enough of them. I honestly thought he might be hesitant going to school where the teachers make him work all day. I could not be more wrong. I think it might be his favorite place to go ever! He gives me a wag if I say we're going to the park. He goes full butt wiggles when I say school and pull out his working collars. 2. They train you too. I knew going in that I would struggle more than my dog. Learning to be consistent, how to correct, when to correct, oh the growing pains of being a fur baby mama! No worries, every pick up they take the time to explain, show you by example, then give you a try so you're comfortable. I've never felt rushed with my endless questions of "am I doing this right?", "what if xyz happens", "can you re explain that, I don't get it". 3. Progress! My pup would "sit" and "down" for treats at home before DTN. About a month later, I have him walking off leash at the dog park with pups running around and I can get him to sit and stay while I run away. He can't wait to hear me yell out "come". 4. Stimulation is key. He loves praise and showing off what he knows. I thought I would always be the kind of person to let my dog to do whatever he wants as long as he's good. DTN's program has proved to me that my guy craves work. He wants to learn new things and get it right. It makes him proud and you can see it in his face. 5. Pride! My mom (little 90 lb. lady) told me that someone looked at her walking my dog (60 lb. ball of fur) the other day and had him heel with an auto sit....she just wanted to show off, hahaha. I think they both walked away with their heads held high of work well done! Needless to say, I will continue to bring my guy for regular visits. I brought my rescue pup KC here after walks with her became a complete nightmare. I dreaded her dragging me all over the place (and I know she was super stressed as well). After ONE DAY I noticed a huge difference and after two weeks she is just a completely different dog. She is so excited to show off all her skills, she loves her walks, and my confidence with her has greatly improved. Update: Very nice puppy preschool program. Both I and my puppy learned a great deal. The price was very reasonable. The staff was calm and knowledgeable. I would bring my dog back here for further training. I'm also curious about how other facilities compare. I have no other experiences with this type service. Earlier... I see glowing reviews, but my experience so far here hasn't been wonderful, but I'm hoping it gets better. I called, made the appointment, was desperate for some tips for the puppy. I got a call 2 hours before the appointment canceling it. It was difficult to find another time to reschedule, but eventually a time was agreed. Two days later, another call canceling that appointment. Instead of the consult before puppy preschool, we can "stop by" after class. It's really hard to trust the people involved. I understand emergencies and staff changes. I sure hope puppy preschool is better than the prelude I've had. So far, disappointing. read more

This was a wonderful experience for my family and our dog. Dan kept Izzy for two weeks and clearly trained her with love, consistency and thoughtfulness. Izzy is a rescue who had a fair number of issues and since she has been home, she has been calm and confident. She has been amazing on and off leash. She used to lunge and bark at every person, bike and dog that we passed. I can now put her in a sit while anything is passing us and she doesn't move or bark. She just sits until I release her. Her incessant barking in the house has totally subsided and now she responds to an easy "quiet" command. Dan was also great about sending daily updates and photos, which was wonderful. We have been using DTN for two years since our lab came into our lives. From the first day, they showed nothing but love for my dog and a passion for what they do. My husband and I got our little baby Rocky and maybe two weeks later, we signed him up for obedience training but we didn't realize that he was so shy and didn't have the confidence to be on a leash. So they changed us up to puppy training classes for about two weeks before he could start the obedience class. The result from just the puppy training class was amazing! He was super confident walking with leash and having a collar on and even going up and down the stairs he even started pulling on the leash. His personality really started coming out. When the obedience class finished he was like a whole new puppy knowing commands and he is really good at the command place right now. I said that I wanted help getting my dog to stop barking at guests (she's not aggressive, just barks) and all the woman said to me was that I needed to give her to some male trainer in Geneva that would board her for a week a return her to me as a "new" dog. They MUST have some partnership with other consultants as I am absolutely baffled by how quickly the trainer shut down on me and rushed us out the door. My dog is generally a very well mannered dog and I wonder if it has something to do with my pup being a pit mix :( read more

I did a lot of home work reading reviews and even swinging by and meeting the staff. I wrote the owner Judy and explained my concerns of only wanting the best for my dear German Shepherd Missy. Judy replied back to me and I can tell by her response that their was a lot of diligence. The staff at dog training now rocks and goes above and beyond. Marcus, Chris and Mat excelled at teaching Missy to heel. They trained my German Shepherd to go to her place and stay there till the next command. This works awesome when we eat.
