Their grooming salon has flees and the manager did nothing to take care of it and was very rude. If you go to the salon they have piles of hair that is just left out from all of the dogs from the day. This company doesn't know how to take care of pets properly. Beta fish are stuck in small, small cups that aren't fit for them, when I look at them, half of them look dead or sick, same with their bigger tanks of goldfish. The chinchillas have such a small space, they also like cold tiles to lay on which Petsmart never really provides. There has also been cases reported by others of getting birds here that are sick/unwell. They in the past have sold cat toys that are made with materials unsafe for cats. They sell hamster cages unfit and unsafe for the little rodents. PLEASE re-think this place. read more

I can't say enough good things about Lauren! (Streamwood PetSmart) I have a recently adopted young Pitbull who Is extremely reactive towards other dogs. I had signed up for Beginner classes, but quickly realized Archer could not be in a class with other dogs. Lauren offered me three private classes instead. Her insight into why this pup was so out of control when he saw another dog was invaluable, and her help with working on his issue was wonderfully helpful. I highly recommend this trainer! read more

But then I thought, this is a business, someone cares (hopefully) there's a manger who gets bonuses off of these reviews. So I changed it to a 4. It's not fair to rate a store poorly just because a cashier is rude (no hello, how are you or thank you have a good night...wait there is more, It's 9:01pm. I'm in line, no one was by the fish tanks.... When it was my turn to pay I asked if someone could help me get some feeder fish. A women walked out from a storage area and said.... First time at this location and I will not return. I dropped off my girl for a simple bath and brush. I explained to the employee that she may be a little weird with the bath because I just rescued her and attempted to give her a bath myself and she wasn't having it. Then it came to picking her up. My girl was all sorts of happy to see me but then I see her eye is red and I looked closer to see a cut on her eye. I called the store immediately and told them what happened. The manager said he would talk to the grooming manager and have them give me a call. Fast forward to today and I talk to her and told her what happened. She seemed to be offended that I called about my dog being injured and made it seem like it was my dogs fault. She said she would review the taps and get back to me later that day. Most Petsmarts are the fairly the same. There is the food, the groomers, adoption services.... What makes this one stand out is its stellar dog training classes. Lauren is an outstanding trainer who works with dogs from puppy age through therapy dog training. I have never met a trainer more dedicated to teaching dogs and their humans. She is an amazing problem solver that helps provide problem solving techniques to complications of dog ownership. Since adopting our puppy and taking class with her, our dog has achieved her canine good citizen certification and I honestly feel like a better person as well as owner. We are a family of multiple pets (2 bunnies, 2 guinea pigs, and our dog). We could go many places to fulfill their needs. However, I will always go out of my way to visit this store because of our wonderful experiences with Lauren. read more

My dog's grooming experience was awful. This was his first time at this location and the groomer cut a part of my dog's ear while cutting his hair and had to rush him to the emergency pet hospital. They did not finish the grooming and it was obvious because the back of his head was shaven but the front of his face was the same as when we took him, and his nails were not cut. They didn't charge me for anything and thankfully my dog is ok. Nevertheless, this is still a PetSmart I will not be returning to and do not recommend for grooming. read more

I've always liked this PETSMART even though I feel the prices are extremely high. I took my dog for grooming and was very disappointed. When I dropped her off they told me they needed THREE hours to groom her. The package I bought was over a hundred dollars so I thought okay they must really have a lot to do. When I picked her up she was nicely washed but it didnt seem like they did the rest of the grooming. Her nails were still long and her ears were not cleaned. It doesn't look like they did a sanitary trim either. What the heck did they do for three hours then with this poor dog!?. She also had a small cut on her nose and her eyes were super red when I picked her up. Probably from being so stressed out in there. I didn't get a good vibe at all. For a PetSmart, this one seems to not be doing so hot. In general it seemed pretty dirty and it was honestly really tough to find a clean up station, which may be why it smelled worse than usual. There was one worker (funny enough the cat worker) that was super friendly and asked to pet my dog but everyone else seemed very disinterested in being there. I went to the grooming salon for a nail trim, but they couldn't find my account even though I've used PetsHotel before. They did take an effort to call around to get the rabies records though which was great! Honestly, I'm happy I couldn't get the trimming done though. While I was waiting I watched the interactions the workers were having with each other and the other pups and I'm really happy my pup didn't have to endure it. I heard a dog Yelp from the nail grinding then apparently made a mean face and started showing teeth. Instead of calming the dog down, the groomer scolded the already scared dog, pointed the grinder at it, and threatened to muzzle it. I know nail trimming is challenging, but they are supposed to be experts at it? I love other PetSmarts that I've been to, but won't be coming back here. read more

Was willing to change locations and dog trainers for one with more experience. Very disappointed after being given hope that this was the right move. This trainer decided she could not assist. And telling me I should not have the breed. Seriously! I have had this breed longer than she has been a dog trainer. Its really sad; because I have used Petsmart before to get my puppies started, as did my parents, even sent friends to get started with their new puppies and even senior rescue dogs. I have always in the past had good starts and moved on for more advance training elsewhere. If you have a puppy and/or dog that is tough to handle. Please look elsewhere. I recently moved in with my Boo and today we had a breakthrough moment in our relationship as we experienced our very first totally, completely, deafeningly silent car ride home after an inaudible amount of frustration at the hands of this PetSmart. Soo thanks for that, PetSmart! As if I don't get myself into enough trouble on my own. I came here after doing some mad comparison shopping for new litter-boxes and mats for my boyz. I discovered that the selection of nominally priced litter-boxes has gone waaay down and the number of high-tech/no-practicality boxes has gone up. This location, in comparison to the Golf and Meacham PetSmart, had a much better (yet still very limited and pricey) litter box selection while PetCo had only a handful to choose from and Bentley's Corner Barkery, while wonderful in every way, had zero litter-boxes. Sooo, back I came with my guy to get a couple-o-crappers for my kitten-dudes. Everything looked fine to begin with, but at closer inspection, each litter box had something wrong with it, whether the case was cracked or the lids didn't lock, of the filter was torn or whatever... so that sucked since I need the damn thing and this is the only spot that sold them in a size that would fit where I need to put them. I also grabbed a litter mat and a food mat to put the boyz bowls on. The food mat was one of two on the shelves that were the same in every way, except one was grey and one was brown. I picked up the more neutral grey one with the shelf tag labeled $8.99 and went to the front. The girl at the front counter, while chewing her gum like it was the biggest cud-wad ever, says there's no price tag so she has to get a price check. Fine. No bigs. The BF is already going to kill me for taking 15 minutes to pick out a great sh*tter for cats, but NBD. She makes a call of some sort for someone to come up and one useful young man comes up to help and she basically stares with a blank face while I'm thinking, 'what the f*ck is happening right now?' The helpful guy ends up walking away, as clearly there is something wrong with the cashier girl. Is she having a seizure? Did the wad of gum she was smacking somehow get lodged deep in her throat, possibly cutting off circulation to her brain stem? I dunno, but someone's got to wake her! HELP! Then a young man in a wheel chair who works there rolls up and asks for her (scanning) gun, and instead of saying anything, she keeps chewing big and throws the mat that I want to purchase at the guy in the wheel chair, it bounces off his shin, falls on the ground, and he accidentally rolls over it. Well... now I kind of don't even want the now-run-over mat, but you can't say that, because then you look like a monster. So the guy backs up and grabs the mat out from underneath him as I stare in amazement at the girl's daftness and make an extra effort not to look like I'm staring at the guy in a wheelchair. The guy keeps repeating, "give me your gun." and the girl finally wakes up after nearly decapitating the poor guy with a cat mat and says, "What?... oh, I thought you wanted the gun, er, I mean mat." Guy says, "No, the gun." guy grabs gun and rolls back towards the cat mat section. Guy scans a price tag (the wrong one) and it comes up on the screen as $12.99 for a medium mat, instead of $8.99 for the small mat. Oh hell naw. So I say 'hold up' as we go to pay because I want to go back and check the price tag for myself, because I know what I saw. I grab the one other brown mat that's clearly marked as $8.99 on the tag for the small mat and on the shelf label, which matches all the info sticker and bring it up to the front. I explain to her that this should be the correct price since it's the same everything besides color and she scans it and says that the one I just grabbed is cheaper because it's brown and completely ignores my attempt to reason with her totally invalid explanation for two mats that are exactly the same size, being marked with different prices because they're different colors, and not because the guy scanned a different medium sized mat on accident. She calls who I'm assuming to be the manager over while my BF, I'm sure, is thinking of ways to leave me at the store with nothing but 2 literal pots to poop in, and tells the manager that I say it's supposed to be the same price as the same mat that's the same color, "but everyone else said it's more." Who the f*ck is "everyone else?" The one guy you hurled the mat at? It probably did look like a medium mat to him as it came whirling through the air towards is semi-immobilized self. The manager seems exhausted (understandably so if she's had to spend more than 5 seconds with the counter girl) and tells her to just ring up the mat with the sticker because it's the same thing, and therefore, the same price. Most days, I'm a crazy cat lady, but 4 minutes with the head-in-the-clouds cashier teen here and I'm transformed into one big b*tch with a major sour puss. read more

We are regulars at this Petsmart. Our baby boy dog is actually the "regular". We bring our boy, Jackson, here for all of his grooming needs. We have been bringing our boy here for well over a year and the girls that work in the grooming department, just love Jack. I can't blame them, he IS pretty darn cute! My fiance, Steve, is the one who typically brings him and picks him up, and occasionally, he will find them playing fetch with our boy when he goes to pick Jackson up. He may just be the happiest guy in the world at the groomers. Our guy is prone to ear infections, so we make sure to ask them to put cotton in his ears during his bath and they will do this without discussion. It seems like others probably request the same thing with their puppies. Don't hesitate to ask for this, too. They write him up a report card that I get to see when he comes home and they always say that he was a good boy. He is a very happy dog to begin with, being a rescue, but if they have yet to tell us of an issue, I'm guessing he really is a good boy when he is there. They both were sooo sweet and made me feel comfortable leaving my puppy there for the nails trim. I truly recommend this store. Unfortunately I only got one of the two young ladies name, Cassidy. My Shih Tzu, Chibi, will be 3 years old in May. My dad's neighbors' Yorkie Terrier mix named Mindy, will be 4 years old in May. From Chibi's first visit with a groomer, it's been nothing but trial and error finding one that is best suited for her. We have tried other places (Petco & Pet Supply Plus) and used different groomers at this Petsmart. The one I was happy with quit and we were back to square one. Fast forward to present day and I'm glad Jenny left. If she hadn't, Chibi wouldn't be with the BEST groomer EVER! Tracy Horesny loves my puppy as much as I do. The transformation is amazing. She really takes the time for a consultation and visualizes how I want my dog to look with precision. It's important to mention that Chibi is always returned to me happy and appreciative. I have Tracy to thank for that! My dad's neighbor drove me to pick up my Shih Tzu today. Wouldn't you know it, Tracy has been grooming Mindy from the beginning? I've always been more of a Petco person for no particular reason, but this location of PetSmart just might be converting me for one reason and one reason only: the grooming salon is AMAZING! I think it was only a lucky accident that we discovered how amazing the baths are here. My boyfriend lives nearby and brought my two-year-old pitbull mix here for a bath once just because it was the closest option. Let me tell you, the groomer Kitty + the deshedding Furminator bath = the dream team. I've gone to other Petsmart locations and I've also had other groomers give her a bath here. It's just not the same. Kitty is THE best. I thought I loved our old groomer back in Los Angeles, but Kitty is better. She writes notes in a report card of how everything went and what areas to work on or watch for next time. It's just so clear that she cares about the animals. And my dog always leaves feeling so soft and clean I almost don't mind when she sneaks up on the bed and tries to share my pillow. While the five stars is clearly for the grooming, my boyfriend describes the rest of the store as "Target for dogs." They seriously have everything. I live downtown in Lincoln Park, but I'll continue to drive the 40+ minutes out here for my dog to get a bath with Kitty every six weeks. At $60, it's honestly a steal. I have no idea how a chain like PetSmart got such an amazing groomer, but I'm now a loyal client! read more

This review is more for the grooming salon, specifically for Claire. Take your dog to see her! We've been bringing our dogs to get groomed by Claire and Dawn since we adopted the little divas when they were nine months old. They're turning 3 next week and Claire is one of the only people who I don't mind telling about the fabulous birthday party that I am throwing for them. Partially because she's non judgy, mostly because she understands and accepts crazy dog owners just as much as she does the dogs themselves. Claire does a great job with grooming my super picky pups' fur. They both always look great. But more importantly, my dogs ADORE Claire. They literally try to push behind the swinging door to get back to say hi to Claire and Dawn! What sold me on Claire as their groomer for life was when she told me that it takes so long to groom them because they have to celebrate after each little accomplishment. One paw done? Celebrate! Just shaved the tip of an ear because that's adorable? Celebrate! Teeth brushed? Celebrate! How can you not love someone who loves your dogs as much as those dogs love them? Even when we go in on non grooming visits just to get their food or to try on ridiculous leftover Halloween costumes, we always stop by to say hi and Claire and Dawn are extra sweet to them. Since we have two rug rats, grooming is definitely not cheap. But I will continue to pay to not have to groom my two fussy little divas myself, knowing that someone who is better at it and patient with them will do it for us. I brought my 7 month old German Shepard in, he's a great boy but he's loud. I was going to bring him out to the car because he would bark at everyone he saw, as I was walking him out one of the workers walked up and embraced my dog, she didn't mind the barking and knew he was just a puppy and was nervous. She made him and me very comfortable and gave him some cookies. Very good experience every time. I wish I caught the ladies name, but thank you it meant a lot to me and my dog. read more

I took my dog for a grooming appointment. Needless to say he was there for over 3 hours. When I picked him up they were still grooming him and it seemed like they were rushing to finish him off. They didn't even put cologne on him. My husband noticed he had been hurt when they shaved off his groin area. I go there and they ask us to wait for 30 minutes to cut their nails. What happened to appointments. They charged me $20 for each dog which is fine and cut my dogs nails terribly and said they couldn't do my other dogs front nails. Weird how the bloomingdale store never has an issue with either of them and does a decent job. Figured we'd try here since it's closer to us but will continue to go to the bloomingdale store. -4/10 do not recommend. read more

I rescued a dog from the CACC in Feb, after I got her, I went to Petsmart to get information about Beginning Training Classes for older dogs. They were extremely helpful, made sure I knew about a booklet with coupons that would be available, and helped me find the right class. Unfortunately, everything shut down after just one class. They communicated updated information quickly, arranged a new class time for when this is all over, and offered to give me phone support to answer any questions. I am definitely looking forward to going to the classes with my dog as soon as this is all over. read more

I have to agree with other reviewers about this location. The manager seems very odd and doesn't know how to effectively communicate with customers. Perhaps he should be better served in the back grooming dogs and not dealing with the public. At any rate, I brought my 2 dogs in for a mini-groom (bath, trim nails, etc). The first thing that struck me as odd was that they wanted me to sign a waiver that said they would "shave my dog to the body if necessary". I said absolutely not. My dogs were not even getting a haircut but the manager insisted that I needed to sign off on that or they wouldn't be able to take my dogs. Why?? Strange business practices always make me hesitate. The dogs looked fine except my one dog had a weird line down her face and snout where they clearly lost control of the sheers and scalped her face. On top of everything the cost was much more than if I would have waited and taken them to our regular groomer. I spent $40 more than the average price (for 2 dogs). I just don't get it. I'll wait the next time, save money and not have to deal with all of the oddities of this place. read more

My biggest problem with this place is that they don't seem to have many people working there, at least when I was there. I went here last night with my brother to buy food for our dog (we didn't bring our dog with us btw). We knew the brand we wanted to buy for him, but we were stuck on which one would be the best one for him, since the dog food bags display the size and age of dog to accommodate the food. It took us probably ten minutes to finally find the right bag because we couldn't figure out which one to buy. During the entire ten minutes, not one employee was around to help us. My suggestion is they hire more people, especially for the evening shifts. read more

Had been getting our dog groomed here for 7 years. Never was late, always tipped well, groomers said dog was great. Was running behind to appointment due to work calls, got a call I recognized was PetSmart. Answered, it was the groomer and I immediately apologized about being late and was pulling into the parking lot. They said they were cancelling because we were late. Asked to speak to manager and explained I drove quite a ways, that we'd been great customer etc etc. She responded, "well if you would have called we could have waited." I said I understood, but why can't this be this be considered the call. I asked her to look through the purchase history so she could see we've been repeat, no complaints etc. she said no. I walked in just to check salon. 3 workers sitting their talking. I called the manager back and asked and she said no again, despite me letting her know that the workers weren't actively working on dogs. She then turned really curt and said that's it. I called PetSmart corporate, left a message, got a generic email from manager 3 days later. Never responded back despite following up. Going elsewhere, just unnecessarily lame. read more

I have been taking my dogs here for grooming for some time now. We have been through a number of groomers , and I hate that. I'm very upset once again the groomer Claire that we used is no longer there anymore . She was GREAT with my babies and they loved her so she was the first person to groom my lil Yorkie. Love this place! We adopted our first dog here from Almost Home and started classes with Lauren right away. She is awesome! No nonsense and gets those doggies to listen! We completed 4 training classes with her. We just got our second dog last month and we brought her here right away for Lauren to work her magic. Our new doggie is responding great to here. We are doing private classes this go around since our new dog is scared of most things. She is super patient and often enlists the help of other dogs she knows to socialize with ours. We had an issue with our dogs nails being done at another store and we came in and the team in the grooming department helped us out a ton. So greatful! Everyone is so nice! Great job guys! read more
