this is the smallest petco i have been in but it has a great selection. i buy blue buffalo food and not every place sells it. it is very organized and clean which is definitely hard to do in a pet store they have shopping carts which were hard to find and maneuver through the aisles the customer service is wonderful! i even think an employee who wasnt on duty and leaving for home asked me if i needed any help the only reason they didnt have 5 stars is because they dont have any grooming or pethotel available. great overall and will definitely keep going back!! read more

I bring my dog Rizzo to be groomed by my favorite groomer April. She does such a good job and is very intuitive to Rizzo's needs. His kidneys are compromised and he takes medication for arthritis. He is almost 12 years old. he always perks up after he has had a nice warm bath. I feel blessed to have April as my groomer as she takes such good care of Rizzo. read more

I got a baby kitten from the san Diego animal shelter six months ago. I was feeding her can cat food from target but it was making her sick. My best friend gave me three months of expensive cat food. I just ran out of the food yesterday went to petco to buy some more and she was right it was expensive $1.49 a can but it was on sale for $1.00 and if you got tweenty cans you got 20% off. So my thirty cans came out to $27.00 . I like petco I can always find what I need. I guess I'll be going once a month now for her cat food. Only four stars because everything is so expensive from the cat toys, litter,cat treats, food ect.I just can't get over the prices but we continue to shop here because we want our cat to have the best. read more

I use to love Petco but after my last experience everything has changed. Poor service, a horrible vet, and extremely unfriendly staff. Do not go to the vet clinic here, as a matter of fact, don't waste your time and go to PetSmart instead! I went to the vet clinic because I was told about the affordable vet clinic for shots and testa but the savings in money does not make up for the horrible service!! Warning they are not friendly nor helpful. I thought people who work with animals would be pet friendly, not here though the vet and assistant were far from pet friendly! I went to the walk in vet clinic to get my two dogs heartworm tested and flea medicine refilled, however, I left with only one of my dogs getting looked at. My small dog was fine but when it came to my lab, things went bad. My large lab was anxious and nervous (nothing unusual) and the vet assistant got too close to hold his leg for a shot without being friendly to him first, nor allowing me the space to comfort him and my dog snapped, he did not grawl or get attackful but the vet overreacted and said my dog was unpredictable and refused to look at my dog. My dog have NEVER reacted like that before and honestly has never had any problems with his regular vet, my mistake for trying to save money on a vet visit. I feel that it is the vets responsibility to understand dogs and that they can be nervous at vets. My dog is not unpredictable nor aggressively like the poorly trained vet claimed. From now on I will never go back to Petco, the clinic or the store. I would not recommend anyone to ever take their beloved pet to a store where they offer poor customer service and improper vet training for their vets. read more

This is for the groomers. I have an eight month old Yorkie named Rustee, and I took him in today to get groomed. First they were able to sneak me in right before closing. This was Rustee's first time to the groomers and Keara was amazing. She was very gentle with him and was very careful to acclimate him to all the tools she used. At no point did Rustee seem stressed. She talked us through the whole process and even have us home grooming tips. Rustee came out looking like a million bucks. I am very pleased with Keara's service and we will definitely be back! This a review for the Grooming salon. My dogs are both kinda neurotic and such scaredy cats sometimes. The Petco groomers are very professional, caring and so down to earth. Lindsey the head groomer or manager is amazing. Especially this past Friday when I took my dogs straight there after the vet, she took the time to sit with them and get them calm before taking them for their baths. She totally understands how anxious and scared pets might be when they come in. Shout out also to Dom who took care of my Mocha while Lindsey took my higher energy dog. read more

Went to this Petco today to pick up dog food for my two huskies (one 5 and one 2.5 years). I have been going to this location for over 6 months now and never had any problems. I ended up buying 4 bags of dog food and spent around $170. The problem is that when I was loading my cart my younger dog decided to pee in the store. Neither of my dogs have ever peed in a store before and I properly scolded him. With my hands full with two 60lb dogs, 112lbs of dog food, and no store employee in sight I walked to the cash register and while waiting in line I told a store employee (small young lady, short brown hair, maybe 100lbs) that my dog had accidentally peed in their store. I told her the exact location and I said I apologize that he did that, he never pees inside. She said okay and then walked around the corner and brought me a paper towel roll and cleaning spray. Now remember, I am in line with my hands full and she stood there trying to hand me the cleaning supplies. I felt extremely disrespected as a customer. I said okay I guess set it down and ILL clean it up after I am done checking out. I never write yelp reviews but this was offensive. I understand it is my dog that peed on the floor but as a business that allows dogs in their store and is a PETSTORE this is bound to happen and I am sure I am not the first person to have their dog pee in Petco. I have worked at a cage free dog boarding and day care facility for almost two years and any time a customers dog peed in the lobby on accident we told the customer not to worry about it and that we would clean it up. Same goes for a veterinarians office, they always offer to clean up any mess your pet makes... It just great customer service. This store does not have great customer service in this realm. If you dont like pets, or cleaning up after pets, probably not a good idea to work at a petstore. All in all, I loaded my dogs and dog food into the truck and came back in to clean up my dogs mess. They get, at most, a star for being the only Petco to answer the phone for grooming. We booked our two dogs to get a bath, nail trim/buff, and teeth cleaning. After two hours and ten minutes, one of the groomers come out to ask us if we were the owners of so-and-so, which we were. She then proceeds to tell us that our dog attacked the groomer and ripped the dryer off the wall and all they could do was bathe her. We were shocked because she has never done anything like that before with groomers elsewhere and she is the most docile dog we know, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt because dogs can act out randomly due to various triggers. They still charged us for all the services they didn't provide, but then gave us a tiny discount that only knocked six bucks off. They also asked for a tip... anyway, fast forward and we notice little drops of blood all over the house. Lo and behold, our pup's nails had actually been trimmed albiet so badly that the quicks were bleeding. Maybe our dog didn't want to be groomed anymore after having her toes chopped, making her act out. Don't paint a scene that makes it seem like our dog is ill behaved and aggressive. Be honest about screwing things up. read more

This is for grooming: terrible aftermath!!! Our little boy has never had problems at groomers before. We picked him up and on the way home was very fidgety. He wasn't able to get comfortable. When we got home he was very itchy. He kept scratching and licking and rubbing his body on surfaces. When we checked out his body we noticed a couple of small nicks on his belly, and he had red blotches all over. We tried rubbing him yet he was still going crazy due to the itchiness. We gave him an oatmeal bath and still itchy. Turns out he has razor burn. The burns are still there after 24 hours. Ready to take him to the vet now. read more

Been taking my dog here for grooming every month and also for shots....this place is great .....the reason i starting going here was because the service we were getting at poway location was bad and the people in the grooming department were rude. My wife liked petco so we decided to try another location even though it was farther from our house not as convenient. We met Destiny at the santee location and right away she showed an interest in our dog and was very friendly ......it is amazing how the same company can have 2 different locations with 2 completely different opinions on what quality service is. My wife now refers everyone to Destiny and Thanks Destiny for taking care of our dog. Keep up the great work. Petco is lucky to have you....hope they know it. read more

I went here to buy things for my new dog. I asked if they were returnable if unused. The clerk said yes. I came back that evening with an unused unopened item and was told I could not do so at this register. With no apology I was told to wait in another long line. That clerk told me that they would not give me cash but rather would credit my debit card which would take 3 days. None of this was done apologetically or with any friendliness whatsoever. In fact, the clerks were rude. I will NEVER go back to this store and will shop at Petsmart now, which has a better selection anyway. read more

Called to see how busy they were because I only needed a nail trim for my pups. They weren't too busy (a Sunday morning). So I took my 2 pups in for a nail trim and buff (if the pups could handle it). We've gone here before and they did a great job! What I love is the care, patience and attention while trimming my pups nails. Last time 1 pup had trim and buff (grinding), this time one pup had trim and buff. Both had nail trims but what I like is that they won't charge for the buff if the pup doesn't have the complete buff on all nails. I appreciate this because it's unpredictable which pup will tolerate the buffing. Great trim job on all nails, even the dew claws! Will go back for sure! Price for trim is great, add on the buff and still a deal. read more

Great experience!!! I was shopping for a large aquarium for two tortoises. I finally decided on a 40 gallon. It was $119.99. More than I wanted to spend but I had been to 5 other stores and was exhausted. I just wanted to be done. I asked a female employee if she could help me with the aquarium. She then Asked if I knew about the $1 per gallon sale that was starting in a week. She explained it to me and I decided to wait a week. I went in today and got the tank for $40.00. She saved me $80.00!!! The manager helped me with my purchase and was also great! I was very impressed with their customer service. The employees definitely go above and beyond! read more

I had a horrible experiance several years ago with petsmart and then I took my dog to petco and that is where we have been ever since. They have always been great and even when my dog had a fear of the blower they didn't subject her to it and just let her air dry. great job guys and i will always bring my baby there :) read more

We took our dog in to Petco for grooming. Petco had groomed her once before with no issue a few months ago so we did not hesitate to take her back. What we ended up with could only be described as a hack job on her. They did mention she did not do well - she is groomed every couple months and we have never had an issue with a groomer saying she didn't do well. She is 13 so she is on the older side - they said she didn't have to stamina to stand for her grooming - Even if she didn't have the stamina for standing, it doesn't explain why her face was messed up. Her muzzle,, her ears, her tail left looking like a fox - We showed them a picture of how she is normally groomed - she did not come home looking like that at all - she looks like a completely different dog - we can live with a bad haircut - she's had a few in her life but the way she acted when she got home. She normally prances around - even at her age, after getting a hair cut. This time, she was depressed & could barely walk for 3 days - - if she was doing so bad, why didn't someone call us to let us know it wasn't going well...not sure if I would take her back there read more

She was on top of things. 3/5 is for their products selection. 4/5 is for customer service. Employees were nice and helpful when i asked for help. It seem that way maybe because i haven't ran into the awful store manager just yet. ***0/5*** is for those mean old ladies that in charge of the adoption event. They posted to have the event from 11 am to 4 pm but didn't show until 11:30 am. They were very rude (interrogate people that interested instead of asking helpful questions); very lazy (didn't even bother to stand up or get out of their chair). I was very interested in adopting a little kitten but the older lady was barking demand that i must adopt 2 cats; cannot just adopt 1....WTF i say. People like that is why no one wants to adopt any animal at petco Santee. I ended up donate money to a much nicer lady at petco poway and rescue a kitten from a crack head instead. read more

He took the time to really help me even though they didn't have what I was looking for. He gave me a great idea and told me a little story about what he did when his dog passed away. We will never go there again. My wife took our bishon poodle mix gidget, for a very short haircut as this helps with her allgerys. Gidget will chew her tail and rump till it bleeds if she is not wearing the cone collar. We have tried every type of food and medication over the years but none has been efective thus far. when my wife left gidget she told the gromer to be sure to put a cone collar on her if they couldn't get to her for a while. Well they forgot the collar and when my wife returned the groomer (blond girl) told her that they couldn't do the grooming because gidget had chewed her tail and rump and was bleeding, also she accused my wife of animal abuse and said that we should relinquish ownership of gidget . Of course my wife was very upset with what had happend and spoke with the manager who apologized, gave gidget a new cone collar. This morning I got a visit from an animal control officer, who was following up on a report of animal abuse, I told her what happend while she visited with gidget and she went on her way. read more

I took my schnauzer mix here for grooming, after a referral from a friend. I take partial responsibility for the outcome, because when the groomer asked me if I wanted to keep the beard and eyebrows as is, I said no, I would like them shorter. I said this because the one other time my pup was professionally groomed, the folks at Unleashed did an awesome job and gave her a scissor trim on her face, so she looked cleaned up but still like her cute bearded self! Well, you know what they say about when you assume.....I came back to my pup being completely shaved, it looks horrendous, they even shaved her poor little whiskers off, and she has been acting skittish all day despite previous good grooming experiences at other places. As I said before, now I know I need to spell out exactly what I want, but if you take your dog here, know that they don't necessarily have the instinct some groomers are blessed with as to what will look good on your dog, and what will look outlandish! My pup and I are laying low while her hair grows in, and I will not be returning to the Petco Santee location for grooming. Despite this, I do not wish to detract, the grooming staff was friendly enough, and I consider it a lesson learned for myself. read more

This is for their grooming department. I called to schedule their shed less dog wash treatment. I let them know my dog is a larger size for his breed. When I get there the girl checking us in, is already complaining about his size and how long it's going to take. Then she mis-prounces his name 6 times. Even writes it wrong on his paperwork. At this point I am feeling unsure about leaving him. Especially since she couldn't even get him in a kennel. We heard her and the other groomer bitching about how he wouldn't walk in a kennel. (This is after we told them he isn't kennel trained). Despite my initial feeling i am told i am over-reacting and the last time my dog got groomed he loved it. So I leave him....We come back 3-4 hours later to check up on him and see if he's almost done. I can see my dog through the glass window, sitting with his ears down, head slumped and looking overall dejected. (My dog may be big but he is very friendly and doesn't stray from happy mellow attitude which is his norm). I asked for him back since the groomer said he tried to bite her when she was drying/brushing him. So try put him in the kennel with a drying machine attached to the kennel door. My dog has always loved/felt comfortable around strangers. He has only been groomed once before at petsmart and he loved all the attention and the experience. He has since going to petco become very wary of strangers. Idk what they did or how they treated him but I am beyond pissed off. (Shitty staff that obviously do not enjoy their jobs, mishandling animals) that's what I came away with from my petco experience. read more

I came here to buy a reusable diaper for my dog to cover some stitches that he kept licking (he's weird shaped and cones/collars don't work on him). I checked online and the price was $11.99, but when I found the exact same product in this store it was marked up to $19.99. There is NO justification for that kind of blatant overcharging. They only had 1 diaper in stock in the size that I needed. I took it out of the box to make sure it would fit and found a bunch of long blonde hairs stuck in the velcro fastenings and POOP ON THE INSIDE. Not, like, a few little streaks. Someone's dog laid a fat dump in this diaper then they had the gall to return it and the apathetic employees put it back on the shelf. I brought it to the front and the guy could not have cared less. No apology for the poop on my hands, no offer to look for another in stock, nothing. I shouldn't have been surprised by their reaction given the fact that they put a poopy dog diaper back on the shelf without checking it. They clearly don't care here. I will never, ever, go to this store again. read more
