Me and my girlfriend go to this Petco all the time and we love it. Today we had an appointment for grooming which PETCO rescheduled. We went to the appointment and this worker stops us and it's like she was trying to be rude and she's like "Grooming is closed can't you see the sign" and proceeds to poke the sign rudely. Instead of offering help or assistance or asking why or ANYTHING she decides to be rude. Our dog has severe anxiety so we had given her medication and now she's all sedated for no reason. 3.5 stars. I like to come here for my dog when they offer the $10 off $30 coupon. It usually the best promotion offered from the company. This particular location is relatively small compared to others I've visited but still manages to offer a decent selection of items. During the sale events, if you don't come early, a lot of the items will sell out though. In my latest visit, I had wonderful customer experience. The cashier was extremely friendly despite a bit of wait we endured for his manager to override one of our purchases. Very rude dog groomers. They were not engaged and looked like they didn't want to work. Lazy and didn't greet very well.

I'm a new dog owner and I was nervous to take my dog anywhere because you hear so many horror stories. However, I met two very kind groomers named Elaina and Nathiena. They reassured me of everything and instantly made me feel good about leaving my sweet baby with them. When I came back to get my baby, she looked so happy. First visit experience: - CON: I booked an appointment online for bath and grooming. This was done a week ago. Then the day before I received a call that the groomer tried to cancel and rearrange an earlier time. I was unavailable to drop off my pup the times they offered. I suggested we keep the time I booked. Then the groomer or whomever was on the phone said that the appointment was never confirmed. I was upset because it should have been unavailable for me to book. I asked to make a note that if an appointment is made a week in advance to be notified much sooner if it's not available. Then we ended the call. - PRO: The day of in the early am, PETCO called and informed me they read the note I left. Apparently the person who called is no longer working there due to their behavior. I was somewhat pleased to hear that they heard my complaint about how the groomer tried to cancel my appointment. The manager said the time I wanted is still available and I went ahead to book it. Other than that, I was pleased. We arrived a few minutes late because we were at the beach. They were so flexible with the brief wait. You receive 25% off the first visit and provided extra little benefits because of the confusion. My pup was great. Apparently she fell asleep during the time she was being blow dried! I understand not being willing to remove it out of concern for the dog. The reptile and fish care in this store is abominable. I regularly walk in to see dead animals in the fish tanks, algae everywhere, fish with ich and pop-eye, and all sorts of other issues. The reptile enclosures are set to the wrong temperatures and humidity for the species being kept in them (I am a herpetologist by profession), their diets are not suitable, the food bowls often contain fecal matter, and the animals have such a variety of illness and parasites that it appalls me to see that the store is still allowed to carry them. **EDIT** When I attempted to discuss this with the private help found on FB (there is no direct way to reach in-country support), my posts were deleted and I was blocked from messaging them. So my doggie Lilly and I drove out to this Petco for the Chihuahua races. She is not a Chihuahua but she likes to herd them and I could not resist the urge to see these little dogs run. This Petco did a great job setting this race up. There were multiple heats and the race was organized so it moved through very quickly. Since the track was set up on the opposite side of the parking lot, there was a golf cart to move people to and from the store. The store didn't carry a very common food for my dog, therefore -1 star. read more

DO NOT SHOP AT PETCO!! If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Went here to just look at the animals Petco has for fun. I gotta say, this place is going downhill FAST. I gotta say my biggest concern is for the Betta fish sections. I don't think anyone puts as much care or effort into this section as they should. For the second time now, I've come in seeing Betta fish bowls stacked ON TOP of each other. As any Betta fish owner would know, Betta fish need to surface to breathe. How can they if another bowl is blocking the air from coming into theirs? I removed them, and the Betta fish promptly surfaced to breathe afterwards. I feel so bad for them. Now, this visit, I found three dead, decaying Betta fish. One was in a bowl with completely yellow water. Makes me wonder how long this poor fish was in there. Also, judging by the other reviews here, it seems most of the reptiles also seem to be suffering from various diseases and poor diet. I had actually bought a Bearded dragon here before (she was healthy), but now it makes me rethink where to buy my small pets. Stick to shelters, most do in fact carry small mammals and reptiles in need of loving homes! Please don't support or buy Betta fish from this store. The employees really need to take this to their attention, the manager especially. I was appalled by these poor fishes' conditions and I won't be buying anything from this Petco anymore! read more

What I also didn't like about this place was that it's separated from the mall. Eh... this store is ok, nothing special. We started shopping here for our cat supplies as it's very close to home. We have 2 indoor cats and stock up on food and litter every couple of months. We were using their own kitty litter which we refill the buckets with for like $11 dollars but then decided the 'scoop free' litter boxes were better for them. We picked up the tray here and for a great price - $60 off. Only when we went back to get more of the litter crystals we were told they didn't stock them..?! So they sell the tray's but not the refill litter - seems pretty pointless. Now we have to go down to Daly City for them. The store itself is a pretty good size and have a wide variety of toy's I can spoil my kitties with. read more

So, I have two dogs and my dog Oahu hates this place because it reminds him of the vet and will pee and bark and pull away. Oh well sucka, you gotta get your nails cut sometime! We adopted him and don't know his history but the lady at the grooming salon did a fantastic job and was super nice and loving even though my 12 pound chihuahua near attacked her. She was slick put on the cone and did the best she could. Oh well. My second dog is much each easier. This review is for the grooming department. I'm very impressed with the customer service I've received from the grooming department at this Petco. It's easy to make an appointment on the phone. For Ziggy's first appointment, I got the mini make-rover service, which included the nail trim. Since his nails were so close to the blood vessels, they did the other nail service (nail grinding?) since it's safer, at no extra charge. The groomer today was Angelica. She did a great job on Ziggy on his full service bath with the 3 added upgrades. It took about 2-3 hours, but Ziggy came out smelling so fresh and so clean, with a bow on his leash! The prices are reasonable, compared to other places I've seen. It's also convenient that this Petco is at Tanforan mall so I can get my shopping on while I waited for Ziggy to be pampered. Made an appt for grooming services, arrived a few min early only to find out my appt was cancelled and I was NEVER informed by phone or email. They tried telling me they called and left a message, but that's not true. The last time I made an appt and arrived I was told the groomer called out but nobody ever notified me my appt was cancelled! I took my dog in to get groomed at 1 sat., and due to a previous bad experience here (grooming employees left her locked up after they had closed, I saw her when I came in and had to ask a store associate to get her) she gets an express grooming service and has for the past few years. Due to the two previous women who groomed my dog regularly not working here, a woman who I hadn't seen here before told me there was a lot of dogs so it would be a wait, I was called 5 hours later! My dog gets very anxious and I was told she did a good job so I went home. The next morning I saw her hair was uneven when I do the same cut and number all around. I called and they said to bring her in and that they would fix it. I was told rudely and with an attitude that my dog was bad, and moved a lot when the day before I was told otherwise. She asked what I wanted to fix and how I wanted it fix and she said "if I cut your dog it's not my problem", who says that??!! A PERSON WHO SAYS THIS SHOULD NOT BE WORKING HERE! And how are you supposed to trust your pets being here when someone can confidently say something like that. Then I was told to come back in an hour and I said no I'll wait because I wanted to see if they did anything to my dog out of spite, and she had just said she wouldn't care if she cut my dog! I asked for a manager and a woman who gave me an attitude said she was the manager! Explains the treatment! I eventually spoke to a store manager and got their names: manager: Elaina and other employee Nathiena. I took my sweet well behaved dog for a spa day and was told very rudely that they have a fifteen minute cut off if you're late. I was 14 minutes late, thinking I just made it, she very rudely snapped at me saying no she's not taking her. This is the fourth appointment and the previous ones were canceled. When I asked if there was anything they could do for me, she became louder and louder stating she was the manager! When I asked for a compromise for just a bath and a trim I was yelled at again. Finally she says she can take her Saturday but it's not a good fit, duh, you think! No thanks and your customer service skills suck! She definitely needs a lot of training! We had a terrible experience with this Tanforan Petco back in Feb. The groomer shaved her too close to her skin where she had to have four sticthes! We usually use mobile grooming but since it was booked up decided to give this location another chance. Had appt made online for over a month and the day of her appt a girl called named Elena that first of all sounded as if she was a youngster and was puzzled since there were no notes of what happened. When I explained and told her that when we brought her today we want to be sure they do not shave her that close. She said that it must have been that she was matted but she wasn't and offered to take a picture but ended up not keeping the appt since she was extremely unprofessional and after reading the majority of reviews this is not an isolated issue. I can't say she was rude but simply did not make me feel assured that they knew what they were doing. When I asked to speak to a manager she said she was the manager! There was my answer. We decided not to keep appt. I would cut my dogs hair before I trusted these people again! read more

My yorkie, Lucky, usually goes to her groomers for her grooming needs however they have been full and/or sick and so Lucky really needed her nails trimmed and since this Petco was literally just right there I decided to stop by. I went inside, dropped Lucky off, went to pay the $10 for her nails at the checkout then walked around for a little bit before going back into the grooming room and picked her up. On a side note, Lucky is very timid and will basically freak out and wiggle like her life depended on it whenever we hand her off to the groomers. This time was no different. However, the two ladies managed to clip her nails just fine and I was a happy momma. I gave them a tip and went on my merry way. I know sometimes big chain stores like these get a bad rep for their services however for this particular place the nail clipping was A-okay! read more

Previously I complained about a grooming agent's bad behavior (two young Latin girls gossipping and saying cuss words in front of the clientele) and I escalated my complaint to a supervisor of the store who offerred me a refund. Months later, I come back in to bring my dog in for a grooming, hoping the service had improved and come to find out through a new agent that answered the phone that my dog has been banned from the grooming salon for being unable to be handled, or untrained. This was a false report filed, one in retaliation because I complained about the bad mouthed groomers and as a result they tried to punish me. Conversely, the store manager mentioned that I was welcome in the store but refused to address or acknowledge the previous incident and tried to cover up whoever tried to ban me from the grooming salon. Sad to say that I have lost all confidence and trust in the San Bruno store to get anything right and will look for other groomers that are professional and efficient. It's apparent to me now that this store's failure descends from the management downward to its groomers, and that there is no sense of accountability. My dog is my best friend, a gentle and very intelligent min-pin who talks, obeys, does tricks, and understands hundreds of commands. For this store to allow someone to say that she was banned for being unruly or the other excuse was that I was unhappy with the groomer shows a retaliatory nature of the people working here. Beware! If you complain about something not right, apparently they will try to punish you the customer in retaliation, and the management will rather than investigate the situation, simply try to appease you by denying you were ever banned. That has been my experience. I never even got an apology for any of this happening. Do you think I would trust leaving my best friend, my dog, with these people? Hell no. Their reputation in my eyes are permanently ruined and I will not likely be back, especially after talking to today's store manager and hearing her apathy. read more

Called them today to see if they had time to groom the babies. They were fully booked but were able to squeeze the boys in for a quick bath and nail trim. Mariana was so professional and sweet over the phone. She even offered to call my vet to get the dogs' vaccination updates for me. This location is very convenient since my sister was able to shop while they were being dolled up. When my sister brought my dogs back, they even had a bag of treats. nightmare i have no idea how your "groomers" got their licences from, or if they even have one. yesterday I drop groden retriver off for a full service bath and a face, feetmy gol, fanny trim. the "groomer" told us that he is going to clean my dog's chest fur a little so it match the rest of his body. when I got my dog back, he turns into a labrador... they shaved his chest fur, leg, belly, and butt to a very short length. they shaved the fur on the testicle so short that the skin was red. and let alone the fact that they were suppose to trim not shave, the shaving was terrible as well, there was some fur longer than other. read more

Super helpful staff. Store manager made sure everything I was getting would function together with what I already had on my system at home. Too bad about the plumbing issues from above their store, part of it was closed off... There is a Hooters above them and I guess for some reason the plumbing is overstressed... but who could say why... It is in a spot where you might not see the store but what can you do.
