Quality has gone downhill since ownership change. Bathed two dogs in less than one hour (never has happened this fast). That was the red flag to me. Failed to trim nails on one of them (how does a simple service like that get overlooked?). Also didn't complete other services requested. I brought my dog to Groomingdales for a haircut.. A blonde lady came out and looked at my dog. She said she wanted to shave all the hair off my Giant Schnauzer legs due to mats in hair. I told her that was not the standard hair cut for a Schnauzer. I understood it would be more work and offered to pay more money. She said no. Her tone of voice was very rude. Why didn't Groomingdales tell me their policy of not untangling matted hair in the first place? It would have saved me from wasting my time. Then, I called O My Dog in Foster City. They take such good care of my baby. From her first visit my usually anxious 2yr old YorkiePoo was calm, happy and looked better than ever! She's never been so perfectly and well groomed. Depending on the weather or events we may be attending I'll ask for specific adjustments to how my Cassie is groomed and they always knock it or if the park! The shop is welcoming and very well kept. I was a satisfied customer of Groomingdales for many years. I was happy to bring my puppy to BarkStation and have been going to BarkStation on Chula Vista for about a year. We have been taking our 11 month, ever growing, standard sized Sheepadoodle to Groomingdales ever since she was 4 months old. Butter got her first groom done here with Kat who immediately put her at ease and gave me the confidence that my little crazy active puppy could really handle the bathing, drying, brushing and cutting! Every person at Groomingdales that I've met from the owner, Bianca, and Marzanna, is so kind and really loves your pup. Butter wishes she could stay there all day long! Butter gets the full treatment when she comes in - bath, blow dry, cut, ears cleaned, and her nails trimmed. She comes home looking great. Even when we've run into a small hiccup with her trim, they have let me take Butter in the following day to touch up and adjust to our liking. Even with Kat on maternity leave, Butter has been groomed by Bianca and Marzanna who both do a fabulous job. I would recommend them to anyone as they truly love and care for your pup. read more

My Chiweenies needed their nails trimmed but they are very fussy older dogs so I've been putting it off. Kat made it easy to come in and get it done right. She was great with Winnie and Bobo and she clipped AND used a sander to make their nails smooth. She was very careful and knowledgeable about not cutting into their quicks. They are much more comfortable now that their weight us not resting on their too long nails as they walk. My dog loves going to the vet and other groomers, but was terrified to even walk in. Asked for a nail trim. They just shaved off completely and the shave was very uneven didn't buff the nails properly . Some nails are still long. On top of that they added de matting fee. I have been taking our little Yorkie Chewy to Groomingdales for about a year now. Groomingdales was the first and only place we have taken him since we adopted him last March. George does such a great job with his haircuts and always listens to what we want (exp, Short hair on face or Long hair on face). Chewy is always happy when we pick him up and his coat looks super shiny and he smells so good. Not to mention that his cut last a while. We loved Groomingdales so much I took my mother in laws Persian cat there, and George did a great job on her too! This was my first time taking my little girl to Groomingdales. I'm so picky where I take my little one to get groomed, but this place was recommended to me. During this time, I like that they have you ring the doorbell outside before coming in. That's just in case they are working with another customer. All Employees wear masks, and there is hand sanitizer offered. My little girl gets super nervous, but as I handed her over to Katerina, she was given so much love! Katerina made sure to get her comfortable just to let her know she'll be ok and taken care of. I took my girl to get her pads and nails done. Katerina noticed she also had some matts, I mentioned how my girl always gives us a hard time brushing them out, but she was able to do it! (...of course my girl let her.. lol) Her nails were nice and pads were perfect! I asked if she could trim the top of her paws as well. As I was watching Katerina, I loved how she took her time and made sure all of them looked even. She's a perfectionist! I also loved how gentle she was and talked to my little one the whole time! As soon as she was done, she asked if it was ok to give my girl a treat. Even though my little one didn't take it, I'm still very appreciative on the whole experience and will be returning! Best grooming place I have ever taken my dog too! Kat, the owner, does an amazing job! I have been taking my older shih tzu to her since I moved to the Bay Area and she is always so kind as well as patient with him. Treats him like her own dog, always gives him treats, loves on him, and is very careful with the tumor on the top of his head while grooming him! I also take my husky to her for a bath and brush. I've been paying to have my dogs (large, medium, and small) groomed for years, at various salons. Most are okay, especially if all you want is a bath, blow-dry, nail trim. I've never witnessed outright mean or egregious behavior. It's the little things that give me pause. I've stuck around and observed behaviors I do not like at some places. For example, I don't like it when a groomer suds up a dog and then leaves them standing in the tub while they go off for a while. I don't like it when a groomer gets impatient with a dog when they don't understand what the groomer wants them to do (like turn around in the tub), and the groomer starts manhandling them. I don't like it when a dog is leashed to the wall after grooming is completed, and the leash isn't long enough for the dog to lay down. There is no towel, and the dog has no choice but to stand on the tile until their owner returns. I don't like it when a dog doesn't get a lick of attention once grooming is completed, not even get a pat on the head or a kind word. I'm not going to be negative and name names. I'll just be positive and say that Groomingdales is one of the better grooming salons. It's the bad little things they don't do and the good little things they do do that makes them better than other grooming salons. Groomingdales does a good job and for a fair price. The owner, Katerina, is a good person and a hard worker. She responds quickly to requests for appointments. Katerina genuinely loves the dogs, and I think the staff feel the same way. It shows in the work they do and the way they treat the dogs. I'm very pleased with the job they do. read more

Groomingdales is a wonderful place! Kat is amazing and truly an animal advocate. She took the time to consult with me and to get to know my dog Bob and hear about any issues he may have with grooming, and believe me I know Bob can be a jerk for a groomer. When I picked him up they were best buddies! Groomingdales is spacious, clean, and charming. Parking on the street wasn't an issue during drop off and pick up. So I have been dating my boyfriend who owns a mini poodle, for about a year now. Every few months her hair gets out of control and matted so he takes her to the groomers. The last few visits he has taken her to Petsmart to get her haircut and oh my god. They have no idea what they are doing. Every time we walk out of there, our little dog looks more like a naked mole rat. Coming up on the 5th haircut for our dog and I decided I couldn't take it anymore. I did some research and offered to take her to this groomers I found on Yelp (of course, Groomingdales) I walk in on a Tuesday and make an appointment for the following week. Today was haircut day. I am always so, so, nervous taking our dog into the groomers because I have not ONCE seen this little girl walk out of a shop looking decent. The man that owns the salon is very nice and personable but this review is really about George. He absolutely listened to how we like our dog cut, not the traditional poodle cut, more of a teddy bear cut, and my god he delivered. When they called me to pick up our dog ( about 2 and a half hours later) I have never been so happy in my life. They were able to get all the matting out of her hair without shaving her to oblivion. I have never seen her look (or smell) so good in my life. I can not recommend this place more. Our little girl came out the cutest I have ever seen. I will 100% be back! read more

GEORGE IS PAW-SOME! HIGHLY DESERVES 5 STARS! I came across Groomingdale's after a desperate search via Yelp for a new groomer. I had my last draw after a bad encounter with Stephanie from PetSmart in San Mateo. Stephanie handled Kiwi very aggressively, which then led to Kiwi being incredibly snappy at her. In the 7 years she had gotten groomed at PetSmart, I've never seen Kiwi that agitated before. Ever. I couldn't even leave her with Stephanie for more than 20 minutes, I just had a REALLY bad feeling about this chick (trust your instincts, people). She was young, unprofessional, and had a very bad attitude towards her clients and their pets! I couldn't believe this type of person would even be considered for this type of profession! How sickening. I knew I had to find a new place, and I needed one quick. I used to have Kiwi groomed by Carlos back in PetSmart, but he had since then flaked at least 3 appointments so I figured he was no longer reliable, especially when I had to book Kiwi's appointments a week in advance. I was in need for a new groomer whom I could trust again when it came to handling Kiwi. Given Kiwi's age (she just turned 56 dog years old this past week), she tends to be very sensitive with whomever touches her and can sometimes be protective if you handle her very aggressively. This can go with any pet, really. However, once I met George and his team, I knew right there and then, that I've found the PERFECT groomer. I called two days in advance to discuss with George about Kiwi's situation and how PetSmart had treated Kiwi poorly. He was very sympathetic and emphasized that the importance of gaining a dog (or cat)'s loyalty, first and foremost, is the key secret in a successful groom session. Stephanie never bothered to establish any type of loyalty on her first encounter with Kiwi. In addition, George also told me that he has about 20 years of grooming experience, and to rest assure that Kiwi will be A-OK with him. I caved and immediately set up my first appointment the following weekend. LOCATION: Groomingdale's is located right off Broadway and Chula Vista Avenue in Burlingame in a petite M&P salon. The interior is cute and relatively small, however, they managed to arrange it in a manner where you're able to view the furry cuties whom were getting groomed. The crates in which the dogs laid in were located right near the check in/out counter and not in a back room. This allowed them to receive plenty of fresh air and sunlight that beamed through the entrance way. Near the entrance, there's also a doggie bowl filled with cold, fresh water that's available for your dog either when you arrive, or prior to your departure. How thoughtful of them! FIRST IMPRESSIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!: When I took Kiwi to Groomingdale's for the first time, after a traumatic last experience from Stephanie, she was a bit intimidated of the place and was afraid to walk behind the counter to meet George. But after a short sniff here and there, she immediately knew that George was trustworthy and deserved her loyalty. George was so, so kind to her; he even talked to her as he was walking her to the back to get bathed! This was comforting for me to watch and I was able to leave Kiwi for a brief moment in peace, knowing that Kiwi is finally in good hands. The grooming session took about 2 hours, and when I arrived back at Groomingdale's to pick Kiwi up, she didn't even want to go home (lol)! She was so comfortable with George that she basically just sat right next to him while we were processing payment. It was apparent that I'd be coming to Groomingdale's hereon. What I also love about George is the way he cut Kiwi's fur. It wasn't messy or uneven. George had cut Kiwi very professional and stylish. The fur on the top wasn't over cut or lopsided. Kiwi looked simply adorable! *^_^* Moreover, the shampoo George used on Kiwi smells so GOOD! I've taken Kiwi to George twice now (the last session was yesterday, 5/9), and I don't regret spending the additional $10, whatsoever. Every penny is well worth a professional groom and most importantly, an incredibly happy dog! Thank you, George, for your wonderful skill and for treating our furry family members as if they are your own. SERVICES: Please be advised that furcuts, with complimentary bathing, start at about $65 and may go higher, depending on the length of time necessary for a complete grooming. Run dont walk to the nearst exit. I dont recommend you taking any pet here. I brought in my rabbit for a nail trim once. They didnt know how to hold a rabbit. But I know that most of you bring in dogs and some cats. While I was waiting there were dogs at the grooming stations and in the kennels. The woman running the shop started to yell at the dogs to shut up. I dont know about you but my pets are my children. I dont want my fur children abused after I leave them for grooming. I will never in the remainder of my life bring any of my pets to this place. Not after what I witnessed. Next time wonder why your dog doesnt want to be left a the groomers...they are yelling at them. If they cant stand a dog talking then they should not be in this business. I can't believe this place is still in business! If I could give them a negative 20 stars I would! Years ago I brought my little poodle puppy here to get groomed. I had recently adopted her & the previous owner hadn't been taking good care of her so she was about 4lbs of grey tangled fluff. When I picked her up she was super sleepy. I brought her home & she continued to be lethargic so I called my mom who used to breed & show dogs. She came over right away & while examining her she rolled my dog over. That's when we saw that 2 of her nipples has been shaved off & cauterized. I tried to call the groomer but they had closed for the day. I called them back the next day & the man I spoke to was incredibly rude. He told me if I was a good dog owner I would have noticed this sooner & called them before they closed the day before. Then he said that because my dog was a "mutt" (she was a cockapoo mixed with a shitzu) her puppies wouldn't be worth anything anyway so it's not like they damaged a show dog. He did admit to giving my dog something to help with the pain which freaked me out because she was sooooo tiny. Little dogs can easily die from being overmedicated. I asked him why I wasn't informed of her being injured when I picked her up and he started screaming at me. He yelled at the top of his lungs that if I wanted to sue him to go ahead & then he hung up on me. My mom called them back on my behalf & he yelled at her too. My mother knows a lot about dogs so she was explaining how dangerous it is to medicate a dog without telling the owner but he didn't care. At the time of this incident I was only 19 & I was still young and naive. I couldn't afford a lawyer so I just took this as a loss & I paid for all her vet bills myself... but guess what? It's 10 years later & I use Yelp now. My dog has a skin tag on her belly by her nipples & I was looking at it today & I remembered this horrible story & I realized that I could finally do a little something to revenge my dog! So here's the story about what happened to my dog at this awful place. I hope this encourages you to take your business somewhere else! I wish I had taken Goose (my poodle mix) anywhere else because the experience I had here was literally traumatizing! I never trusted anyone to groom Goose after this & I ended up buying grooming clippers & grooming her myself. I've actually got pretty good at it... I would give NO stars if possible. Today, my hubby and I took our THREE dogs to get a bath. Previously, we had taken two of them: a Newfi and a German Shepherd for haircuts and baths. They both looked great but the cost was almost $200 (for two dogs!!) Regardless, my husband made an appt for all three dogs (we also have a mini-Rott) for baths. He called and made the appt for today at 9 am. He called back to confirm, left a message. He called one more time to ensure that they knew the appt was for 3 dogs. The nice woman stated yes there was an appt made for 3 dogs. So we got there today. We were told by the apparent owner --older white male, short white hair-- that he could not find the last time we had come in. (Basically, the name used for the 1st appt was my last name, this time my husband used his name (obviously.)) He was upset and began berating us and stated in a very pissy way that he should charge us for the time it took for him to find our name. He continued to yell that he was in fact a professional and he should not have to spend so much time trying to find the information from the last time we were there. Long story short... we took our dogs and left. We are NEVER coming back. It is amazing to me that in this economy, customer service like this exists and unfortunately, is not unusual. I was really nervous my sweet girl would be really upset and hard to handle and told Kat to call if she was a problem. She never called until time to pick her up. My baby was GORGEOUS. I walked into Groomingdales early this morning with my Lagotto Romagnolo; we did not have an appointment. My dog had been to another groomer the day before, and he looked more like a dandelion, than a truffle hunting dog. The previous groomer had shaved his body, that was expected, but left his head fluffy from a blow dry, without cutting the hair on his head at all. Poor Parigi had a big round fur ball on his head, and you couldn't even see his eyes through all of the fuzz. I could barely look at him without wanting to cry, and he was embarrassed by the dandelion look as well. George to the rescue! He asked for a photo of a properly groomed Lagotto, asked a few questions, put Parigi up on his table, and told me to get a cup of coffee, and come back in 25 minutes. When I returned, George had skillfully turned Parigi back into the handsome Lagotto that we know and love. We are very grateful, and we now have a new groomer. Thank you, George. read more
