My little maltipoo was really traumatized by previous experiences during grooming and I was too, so it has been such a relief to finally discover Cathy talents. Cathy has a true passion for pups! It was such a surprise to be able to see my pup finally relax under Cathy's experienced and compassionate hands. She always gives me great advices and tips to improve my dog fur and wellbeing. I am very grateful that, finally, I've found someone I can trust with my furry baby. Patti read more

I would have to agree with Geoff- on all accounts with this place basically. I went in this past Sunday with a friend to wash my Samoyed and my Chow mix. We did self serve- the whole nine yards. Cathy was great, and trimmed and filed the dog's nails for me. It was a good experience, and I will take my dogs back from now on. They are happy, soft, and smell great! read more

This place in inexpensive and every time i have been there I have had a great chat with the owner who really cares for each customer, two legged or four. The products are nice for my dogs skin, also conditioners are offered and a nice treat at the end for both of us. He gets a little biscuit and I don't have to unclog a drain at home! =) read more

Cathy is a fabulous groomer. Kitty always looks gorgeous when she is done. And, she loves Cathy. Always excited to get there. Cathy is a full service groomer and always lets me know if she notices anything wrong. She has caught more then one ear infection. read more

Gleaming Barkus - Miss Kitty - Pet Groomers Near Me

Cathy doesn't just do an excellent job grooming dogs, she loves them! My dog is happy to go see her and it always puts our mind at ease. Cathy is s kind person and I would recommend anyone that is looking to not look further read more

It's probably fine for a self service place, but Toby did not like it here at all. The owner I'm sure is very nice, but I took Toby there last minute and she was a bit overwhelmed to actually groom him. She had 2 or three of her own dogs there and one was barking bloody murder while he/she sat in his/her crate. Anyways, I dropped him off and walked back to my office only to get a phone call that she didn't think she could trim his nails and wanted me to come and get him. I ended up staying with her as she tried to trim his nails and give him a bath - I probably could have done it all myself. (My visit was sometime in 2006) read more

I've been taking my dog to Gleaming Barkus for 8 years and have been very happy with the self serve end of it. There is no timer so if I want to soap my dog down three times it's no problem. There are plastic smocks, plenty of towels, shampoo and conditioner and a blower to get most of the excess water off your dog before you towel him/her off. Even though I only take my dog in semi annually at most, Cathy always remembers my name and my dogs name. The place can use some updating but what's there is plenty adequate for me and my dog. This lady truly loves dogs and they all seem to really like her. The few negatives are that the water needs a few seconds to get warm every time you stop the flow to soap your dog. The second one is that the blowers only have cold air and not warm air. The personal interaction keeps me coming back to Gleaming Barkus to bathe my dog. read more

Cathy is an awesome dog groomer! She loves the dogs so much and takes such great care of them. She is amazing! My boy, the white husky with the cowboy hat in the photo, recently passed. Cathy always took great care of him in spite of the fact that he was stubborn independent and did not particularly like getting groomed. Not only did he always come out beautiful, but he was also always happy and loved Cathy. She will always be my first choice to groom any dog I have! read more

The price is very reasonable and worth every dime of it for the hair mess after bathing. Cathy would offer helps when she saw me struggling with my German Shepard (She hates bathing). Shampoo, combs, towels are all provided. I will definitely go back again. read more

Self-serve dog washing for only 15 bucks! Much cheaper than large chains' self-serve dogwash facilities. They will also rent you a table for a period if you prefer to self-groom. Buddy hates baths more than just about anything, but washing him at home can be a real project, especially since he retains water like a spongedog. read more

Cathy is a wonderful groomer and person. She cares about my dog and does such an excellent job grooming her. She has years of experience and helpful friendly advice she shares freely. My husband and I love our little maltipoo, so it is great to leave her in the care of someone who is not only talented but affectionate toward her. read more

Cathy does a great job grooming , is very friendly and really loves the dogs!

My husband and I have been bringing our little dog, Abby, to Cathy for over 12 years. We have nothing but praise for Cathy and her work. All the dogs love her and she obviously loves them. She is so sweet to them. When we ask Abby if she would like to go see "Aunt Cathy," she gets so excited and can't wait to get into the car! Abby always looks great after she's groomed and Cathy takes the time and care to either put a bow on Abby's collar or a bandana around her neck. We won't take Abby anywhere else for grooming! read more

We have been taking our sheltie here for 10 years. The owner/groomer Cathy is outstanding! She has amazing attention to detail--she takes pride in her work, and loves the dogs. Our dog just loves going to see his Aunt Cathy once a month! People stop and admire our dog all the time--I've referred many sheltie owners to Cathy, all of whom have been very happy with the results. Cathy is extremely knowledgeable about pet health, and always checks our dog's coat and skin for any issues that we may need to address or monitor. We have taken our dog to a couple of other groomers when Cathy was out of town, with disastrous results--resulting, in one case, in an expensive trip to the vet. We trust Cathy totally--she loves our sheltie like her own. I highly recommend Cathy to all dog owners! read more

We've been going to Cathy for over 13 years. I cant remember exactly but she now takes care of our 2nd generation of dogs. She is THE BEST. We used to live 2 blocks away and it was wickedly convenient. Now we live in Marin and can't even think of going anywhere else. She is passionate about dogs and is our 'dog whisperer' when it comes to clipping nails for our not-so-little darlings. You want no frills, good animal care and service? This is THE place!! read more

Kathy is fab - and her self-serve is the best! Leave the mess there and no bending over to scrub. I first discovered GB when I was pregnant - so it was perfect! Groomed my dog there for years until he passed away. 4 years later I walked back in the place and Kathy called me by name! She truly LOVES dogs - and I LOVE Gleaming Barkus! read more

Oh, I love Cathy!! I've been coming here for 5 years. She is so sweet and always takes the time to chat and give my pup some lovin'. I do the self serve wash, she clips and files my dog's nails and we leave with a cookie. My dog is happy to see her when we go (which is always a good sign...) She is closed Tuesday and Wednesday which can be a pain sometimes but she stays open late on the days she is there which is awesome for after work washes! Can't say enough about Cathy and how great she is!! read more

Nothing short of 5 stars, would give her 10 if I could! I guess you can say I'm a little over protective when it comes to my kids and animals. I've heard horror stories about groomers and how they treat pets. Cathy is a true animal lover and the only groomer I have ever trusted to groom my boy Jackson. I have known Cathy for about 20 years now so I can certainly testify she is extremely caring as well as a wonderful groomer. I like that fact that she only takes one dog at a time to avoid having them wait in a cage until ready to groom as well as afterwards until the owners pick them up. It takes more time for a groomer to do this but is so much better as it lessens stress on the dogs. I've also seen other groomers dry their clients dogs by placing them in a cage and direct an upright hot blow dryer towards the dog. This seems like a cruel and lazy way for a groomer to dry a dog. I've never seen Cathy dry her dogs this way. Cathy truly cares about the welfare and happiness of her clients dogs and is a fabulous groomer. read more

Great place to take your dog for grooming. Cathy the owner is a great lady, my Betty Cuca loves her. Always have compliments and question where I take my dog for grooming.. I had been going to Gleaming Barkus for years, never had a problem. Cathy always call me when she is going to be late, or she has to reschedule my appointment. I recommend this place read more

I have bringing my dogs to Cathy for grooming and washes for over five years. One of my dogs is very nervous around strangers and Cathy handles him with love and attention so he is calm/happy during his bath.. My other dog is a senior and needs additional TLC and time for grooming/bath. Cathy is wonderful with him, as if he was her own dog. I would and do recommend Gleaming Barcus to anyone looking for a Groomer. read more

This place is great, especially if your dog has special needs like mine. Cathy took excellent care of my 5 1/2 pound, 13-year-old yorkie mix, whom I rescued from the pound and had for only a year before she passed from kidney failure. My sweetie was emaciated when I adopted her (note: she arrived at the pound in that condition) and was reluctant to have her groomed, but her hair covered her eyes, her nails were long and curled, and her hair and skin were in bad shape from being malnourished. Cathy was so gentle, caring, and loving with her. She did no more than she had to and let my dog's demeanor, health, and condition guide her as to how to best groom my dog on each visit. In time, my dog's true self emerged. She was happy, spunky, gained 1 1/2 pounds and looked much healthier, as reflected in her smile, hair, nails, and coat. I do not see how to add photos here but the "before" and "after" photos are amazing! While I had my baby for just a short while, I am comforted knowing that I gave her the best care I could, which included having her groomed. I learned a great deal from Cathy about maintaining the health of a dog and now take my 5 1/2 pound yorkie puppy to Gleaming Barkus. And oh, it can be noisy at times, but that's to be expected in a grooming shop. All around, I am pleased with the services at Gleaming Barkus and importantly, my little guy is happy going there. read more

We have been using Kathy for a number of years and she does an excellent job. I have an 81lb Airedale Terrier that does not like to be groomed. Ever. We've used a number of groomers but this is the only one that is able to take him and he actually likes- he pulls on his leash just to get in the shop! In addition she is able to cut him to our specific directions which makes him look really great. read more

My gosh Cathy is a gem if there ever was one! I brought my Yorky puppy here just before Christmas in desperation because, after having surgery in October, he had gotten really matted since I was afraid to brush him too vigorously. Other groomers locally have been unreliable or un-willing to deal with him. Cathy went out of her way to take us and struggled for two hours while the little wiggler would not hold still for a good haircut and grooming, but she never gave up! What a great result and wonderful person Cathy is! She's the only groomer for my Yorky and me from now on! read more

If you want your furry family member to get the best care ever go directly to Gleaming Barkus. For me and my dog, it is the best place to go because Cathy doesn't just groom animals, she loves them and they feel it. You can tell it's her passion and not just a job. My little guy is elderly and she took the additional time and attention needed so that he had as good of an experience as possible. I could see how much she cared for him and for the 1st time ever he was very calm when he came home from being groomed. You can go many places and get a good grooming job, but you and your furry family member will never be more cared for than at Gleaming Barkus. I've been to several grooming places on the Peninsula where I felt they really were not nice to animals, so value your pets and see Cathy at Gleaming Barkus. read more

We have been taking our Golden Retriever for grooming by Cathy, the owner, for the last 5 years. Our dog always looks beautiful after her grooming. Cathy has extensive training and years of experience; she is a Master Groomer, having earned her certification. She is thorough and has high standards. She does all the grooming herself, including a shampoo, conditioner, nail trimming, haircut, anal gland expression, shaving around private parts ( for females)...the works! Cathy is also very knowledgeable about dogs and their care, including nutrition and various medical conditions. If she notices anything unusual while grooming the pup, she lets the owner know and makes suggestions, which might be to see a vet about the situation. She is very caring and loving toward the pets and considers their well being first and foremost. Her fees are reasonable as well. read more

Having recently moved here from the LA area I found myself looking for a new groomer. I called a few places close to home but they only groomed small dogs. After talking to the manager I thought to myself well, she seems a bit scattered and "out there" but I'll give it a try. After waiting a week for my dog's appointment I took him in. She was very friendly but when she looked at my dog and asked if he needed a haircut and I confirmed that he did she got flustered, said she didn't know he needed his hair cut (huh??) and that she might have a hard time fitting him in. Not sure where she was when we were making the appointment for his hair cut but it confirmed to me that my intitial reaction was correct - scattered, disoriented, unorganized. I told her that if she couldn't do him today I was just going to leave, she seemed shocked that I would say such a thing to her. Not sure what an appointment is for if it can't be kept. I have no doubt that she likely cares about dogs and their people, but I do expect a level of professionalism and didn't see that at all. And I was quite surprised to see the front door wide open considering the dogs are free to run around in the back of the store. Not a comforting feeling to leave your dog there if you know the door will be wide open to access on a busy street. Guess you can tell I wasn't happy at all with my brief experience with this business. I want to make sure my dog is safe, secure, and happy when I leave him anywhere. And having somebody that seemed flustered and distracted with each of our communications doesn't give me a comforting feeling at all. Too bad I didn't look at this site prior to making my initial appointment with a groomer, now I know where to go! read more
