I am from out of town and they got my little Cavapoo in for a grooming. The only thing I am very disappointed in I asked them to leave the top of her head poof longer and they cut it the same as body. I also asked not to cut her eyelashes and Kat the groomer cut them verrry short! And her face is not cut evenly around. Should be round but is long on sides and short on bottom so she doesn't look so good . read more

This is my favorite groomer in the Peninsula, and we've tried quite a few. Mister Pepper seems to really like Groomingdales because he's not as stressed out as he was with previous groomers. I walked into Groomingdales early this morning with my Lagotto Romagnolo; we did not have an appointment. My dog had been to another groomer the day before, and he looked more like a dandelion, than a truffle hunting dog. The previous groomer had shaved his body, that was expected, but left his head fluffy from a blow dry, without cutting the hair on his head at all. Poor Parigi had a big round fur ball on his head, and you couldn't even see his eyes through all of the fuzz. I could barely look at him without wanting to cry, and he was embarrassed by the dandelion look as well. George to the rescue! He asked for a photo of a properly groomed Lagotto, asked a few questions, put Parigi up on his table, and told me to get a cup of coffee, and come back in 25 minutes. When I returned, George had skillfully turned Parigi back into the handsome Lagotto that we know and love. We are very grateful, and we now have a new groomer. Thank you, George. read more

I read the reviews to this place before scheduling an appointment. Although I was hesitant, I had to settle with a grooming shop because the others in the area could not fit in a convenient time for me. This was my first grooming experience with my first pet, which is a Himalayan. I was nervous to begin with and the staff may have been comforting, but made me even more nervous. They wouldn't allow me to watch my kitten be groomed, they simply told me they would call me when they're ready and it would be "a while." I didn't like that at all. They also wouldn't tell me the exact price until AFTER my cat had been shaved. Nevertheless, I picked up my kitten after 2 and a half hours. The female groomer there was very nice and said that things had gone well. However, my cat looked distraught! I hurried back home and let him out of his kennel. He seemed calm but then he started grooming himself. It was when I picked him up that I noticed that there was a spot by his nipples that looked a little red and bloody. I was worried and continued to worry when he went back to grooming himself. They had shaven him so short that it was very easy for him to just lick himself clean of hair, leaving a pink bald spot. This experience has left both my cat and myself traumatized. It will be a long time before we visit a grooming shop, let alone this one. read more

I brought in my new girl for the works. She is a rescue, where the prior owner's did not feed her, interact with her, nor ever give her a bath. She was filthy, poor baby. I brought her into Groomingdale's, who did a fantastic job on her. She freaked out over her first bath, but Groomingdale's was so kind and patient with her. I really recommend them. I am super picky about my dog. I only go to the best for care, vets, and stylists. Groomingdale's is by far the best place for my baby. He always comes out with a great cut. We have tried other places and this is the only place we have been happy with. It is hard for me to leave him and the staff always lets me know he will be fine. I am very pleased with Groomingdale's! What motivated me to take Mimi, my teeny Persian kitty, there initially is that it is close to where I live. Mimi, like most cats, doesn't like car rides, and I wanted to minimize travel. I had also stopped by the shop earlier, spoken with Wayne, and had gotten a good impression. Wayne and Felipe were both great to deal with, and Mimi looks wonderful. She was calm and relaxed when I picked her up and ready to play when we got home. Felipe took extra care with clipping her belly. (Another groomer had nicked one of her nipples, and it had bled.) read more

I will NEVER take my dog back to this place. He was desperate to leave - just ran to the door. I didn't find out why until we got home - and I notices how torn up his tummy was - scrateched and bleeding. He actually liked going to the previous groomers - but he didn't look great. i wish there was yelp when i had to find a place to take my puppy to get groomed. i found groomingdales through yellowpages.com and they offered a coupon. when i called they asked if he'd been groomed yet and what kind of dog he was. the guy said people come near and far for their mini schnauzer cuts. so, i thought "okay, i found a place". took him in at 9 and he was not ready until 6...yeah! when i got him, he also didn't seem very coherent, like he had been on a sedative. i just didn't know how to bring this up, since this was my first experience. i also thought it might be the norm??? anyway, i took him there one more time and when i picked him up, the lady said they had a hard time with his ears, so they just left them as they were. so, i found pretty paws (read my review though), but am now looking again! read more

Very disappointing. The cut was not what we asked for - they made our cute dog look like Beetle-juice. The quality of the cut was awful - there were a dozen spots that were completely missed Timing - again a failure - they promised him for 4 PM but they didn't finish until 6:15 PM. Worst of all - they cut two of his nails way too short to the point of him bleeding extensively. He has limping and licking his feet for a day. He has been in a depressed mood ever since the grooming. I cannot express my dissatisfaction with Groomingdales strongly enough. read more

My dog is a yorkie, and we keep him in a modified puppy cut. Our instructions were specific about the puppy cut, and on the positive side, they were followed. The problem is this: details count, especially on such a tiny dog with a short cut. His body cut was choppy. The tipped yorkie-style ears were uneven. The transition to the longer hair on the legs was also choppy. The prices here are premium range, which is what I've been used to paying... and I don't mind paying for excellent work... but not this. read more

We sent our mini schnauzer for to be groomed. The person who helped us was very pleasant and nice. We left feeling good about the place. They called us at the promised time letting us know our dog is ready to be picked up. The unacceptable: They clipped our dog's right ear and they told us nothing about it. I found it while petting her when we got home and saw about 1/2 inch fresh scab. It was obvious that her ear must have been bleeding when they clipped it considering the size. George is the best groomer there is! He is also known as the 'cat whisper', which proves to be true. I have 2 cats that I get groomed every few months and 1 of my cats isn't the easiest to deal with, but George has his way with cats and makes him feel comfortable enough to relax during his time there! We recently took our 6 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy to Groomingdales after we realized there was no way we were going to get the matting out of his chest. We have been coming to Groomingdale's for 5 years now. Wayne is really sweet and they always seem to remember us. Our shih tzu Cody is kind of a "nervous nelly" so it always makes me happy to see her so perfectly "coiffed" after her appointments. Felipe has groomed Cody the past few times and he does an AWESOME job! She looks like a teddy bear when she comes home from Groomingdale's - and the cut grows out really nicely too. Thanks, Felipe! Grooming and pampering our dog since 2005! We have a wheaten terrier & she's a regular at Groomingdales. We recommend Groomingdales to all our friends without hesitation. If our dog could speak, she would do the same. She knows that she'll be treated well by Wayne & his staff. We call it her day at the spa!. She always comes back looking great. It's super easy to make an appt, the staff know our dog, our preferences, and have accomodated special requests (our dog has allergies & requires medicated shampoos). These guys do a great job on my old english sheepdog and my shih-tzu. Sure, it's not cheap, but I've never found a groomer that does a good job that is cheap! To top it off, last time I was there, I had my son in the car and they were more than happy to bring the dogs out to my car and take payment out there too so I didn't have to lug my young son into the shop. I have been taking my girls to Groomingdales for approximately 2 years. The number one thing with Groomingdales is that I know 1000% that my girls are taken care of! I had previously taken them both to Pretty Paws (you can see me review of their establishment) and was mortified by the way things were run there... but again see my review! When I first started going to Groomingdales I was very happy as to how my little Poodle/Chihuahua mix was groomed and how happy she seemed, instead of depressed like at Pretty Paws. Early on I had a couple of problems with the business side of things, like asking for my baby to be ready by 4:00 and she wasn't ready until past 5:00, and just minor stuff like that. However, I have not had any problems as of lately and between myself and my very good friend we bring in a total of 5-7 of our dogs several times a year and am very happy with the service given! They do now have a new groomer named Jane who is FANTASTIC. She truly listens to what you want done and if you are not 1000% happy, she urges you to let her know and she will fix anything you think needs fixing! Today is the first time my Roxy has seen Jane, but I do know with regards to my friend's dogs (my god doggies) she does a fabulous job on them all! I will try and update my review when I get Roxy back this evening... but for now I give them 5 stars! read more

Three weeks ago, I took my boss' two prized English Setters to Groomingdales on Chula Vista Avenue in Burlingame. Everything started out fine. Kat was accommodating with the appointment times, asked all about the dogs, and was willing to work with the older one's physical handicaps. However, things quickly went wrong while the dogs were in Kat's care. She called me several times to say that their fur was heavily matted, and she would need to trim some off. In the worst areas - which she listed - she said she would need to shave out the matts. I agreed that they had some matts and that she should use her best judgement to get them out. That is where I went wrong. When their caregiver picked up the dogs to bring them home, we discovered that the Groomingdales staff had given the dogs a buzz cut! These two dogs were chosen as the 2021 cover models for a calendar, in part because of their long, fluffy coats. Kat and her staff changed the look of both dogs, shaving them down to the bottom level of their coats. My boss and I found this to be completely unacceptable and a poor business practice to take the easy way out when grooming long haired dogs. If you love the look of your long haired dog, do NOT bring them to Groomingdales at all costs! read more

We've been taking our two standard poodles to Groomingdale's for two years. They are always accommodating on short notice and the boys come out looking beautiful each time. It is an all-day affair so the dogs are always tired once they get home. My only beef is that there seems to be a lot of staff turnover, so results can vary somewhat from visit to visit but the owner is always there to greet us and our dogs run to him for lots of pets and love. read more

I have 3 big labs and they have been taken to Groomingdales for the past 6 years! One of our dogs is old and his legs are fragile and they take the time to be gentle with him. One of our dogs is hyper, LOUD, and a bit of a pain and they manage her with kindness and ensure she is with one of our other dogs to keep her calm. We have had a couple incidences of dogs being skunked which they have also handled well. I am all about consistent service and a place I can count on...This is it!! read more
