The store was fully stocked with happy paws shopping away. The cashiers were welcoming and friendly, immediately offered assistance as I walked in looking for the pick-up section (which is at the registers). It's very convenient ordering online and picking up. It's literally an in-and-out transaction. Awful grooming department. The younger woman who works there on the grooming department (won't say her name) cannot groom my daughter's dog at all. He is a yorkiepoo and very friendly and did not like the employee both times that I took him. The Petco employee claims that she couldn't finish grooming him because he tried to bite her when he never does that but the other lady named Katy at the Oceanside Petco who my granddog used to go to before he moved, he loved her and we got everything that we paid for. There is always what I need there. When it comes to cat food and aquatic plants. Even what I don't need like furry or feathery friends who want to go home with me. The selection of wet cat foods is helpful to finding what is best for my picky cats. Because I can buy one at a time to experiment and see how they react, I can always buy more once I know what they like. The staff are busy but helpful. My dog, Bruno, and I have seen so much improvement since starting training. Jaclyn is truly passionate and knowledgeable about what she does, and is extremely patient. We brought Bruno to her with no prior training, and he has already learned so many new commands. Can only comment on dog grooming services, which were a bad experience with the groomer, not the store. They tell me it might take 2 to 3 hours, but called me back in 30 minutes. My dog was still damp, had loose hairs on its coat, smelled, ears not totally clean, and teeath did not look like they were done, no nails trimmed i9or glans done as specifically requested. Will not go back there again. I called customer service, but the gentleman I talked to had a heavy accent, and we had a difficult time trying to understand each other. read more

I purchased training lessons and was upfront at the time about being a clicker trainer. They let me get through two of the classes with the clicker before the trainer let me know they don't allow clickers in class, and I needed to stop. Since the clicker is exactly the same function as the marker word they wanted me to use except that the marker word is less precise and more confusing to the dog, I'm baffled by this. They refused to refund the class because I'd attended two of the lessons, but had I been informed from the get-go that I wasn't allowed to use a clicker, I would never have signed up for it. Atrocious. The trainer was also not good. She had poor timing, encouraged dogs who were working to refocus on her instead of the handler, and just generally wasn't particularly well versed. This review is for Katrina * I believe that is her name*and the grooming service my pup received today. My husband and I took my cocker spaniel, Penny, today for the mini make-rover which Includes nail trim & buffing, teeth brushing or breath refresh, ear cleaning, light feet trim & paw shave and scented spritz since she needed a little love and care in those areas. Upon entering we were greeted by Katrina in a very welcoming matter and she walked us through the package. Being first time pet parents, we had a lot of questions in regard to general grooming and she answered every single question we had and made great suggestions on what to use/do. When it came to the grooming, she asked us what we wanted in regards to Penny's paw hair and the hairs on her behind. We let her decide what she thought would be best since she's a long haired dog. I was VERY pleased and happy with the results and so was Penny! As we watched through the window, we saw Katrina being so loving and gentle with Penny and she's usually a shy/nervous pup. For $25 I highly recommend this package if your dog needs some basic grooming. And I highly recommend coming to this grooming salon. You don't have to make an appointment for this service, it's walk in which is perfect! We felt so taken care of and my dog walked out so happy and so fresh! This store is always dirty, you can never get help when you need it. I went to pick up some dog food that needs to be frozen and a big size package of the food the wasn't frozen. It seemed like they may have left it out then placed it back in the freezer which is bad because this type of dog food can not be left out. Ashley is by far the best pet groomer I have had for my yorkies. Not only did she glamify them she took the time to call my vet because the papers that I had that I thought were current for rabies were not. She had them fax a copy there so I could have a current copy for London. I have been taking these papers back and forth to Mexico with them. I guess they haven't been checking. Lol. Back to Ashley, she is super sweet, and went way beyond the call of duty. She took her time, and London, and Milan will only be going to her. We get home. Took my dog to get groomed there and Diana was supposed to be our groomer. In the morning before our appointment I got a phone call asking if we could move the appointment earlier. I said we had something before the appointment so I couldn't confirm a time but if they wanted I could come in as soon as my thing was over. They said that was fine. So I come in as soon as I can and get there about 40 mins before my appointment time. Diana asks me questions I've never been asked before regarding getting my pet groomed (have had three appointments prior) one being if my dog has had a calming treat. I said yes I had given him a calming treat (one he's had many times before) she then informs me that they can't take him. I explain he's had the treat many times but she said they can't take him in case he has a reaction. Well we had our other dog scheduled for the next day so we say fine we will switch our dogs appointments then and run home and get that dog. She responds with "if you're even one minute late we cannot take him as we close at 7" it was 4:15 and our appointment was technically scheduled at 4:45. We get back with our other dog on time and she checks him over and asks if he has any problems. I mention he's growing hair back from some old fly bites on his ears. She leaves and comes back and tells us they can't take him because "open wounds". The literal week before this same exact lady had us sign the paperwork for our other dog with the same thing on her ears. I told her that I knew what she was doing that she called earlier to switch our time and that she just doesn't want to groom this late and wants to leave early because she's making up excuses as there are no open wounds on my dog. I'm pointing out that his fur on the very literal tiny tip of his ears is a little pink from just where you can see the skin, no wounds and she keeps parroting "company policy". She goes to get her manager and as I'm standing there I realize what am I going to achieve from this argument? I win and Diana grooms my dogs? That doesn't sound like a win to me. So I left. I canceled my appointment for the next day as well and canceled my thrive memberships for all three dogs. read more

I USE to love the staff here, so helpful and nice. My husband and I will spend about $300 easily a month for our fur babies and fish's but I always have an issue with the guy who I believe works the fish department (tall, where's glasses and has a small afro look), he's so rude and monotone. My husband and I upgraded our tank and had questions about the LED light blinking for the cartridge that we just bought Tuesday. He gave such an attitude. As sad as I know we are (fur babies and husband) we will have to travel to another Petco in hopes for better service. All it took was that individual to ruin what was such an amazing experience for us to not feel even comfortable going into this Petco. I'll miss the rest of the staff. read more

I took my 3 month yorkie here on a saturday, I called a few hours before to make sure I could bring her in for a cut. This was her first time getting groomed so I assumed she would act the same way she acted when I first bathed her (suuper crazy) I let the lady know that shes a very energetic puppy and that she's also teething so she tends to bite, she told me thats okay that they train for every situation a dog might bring. I brought her in there wasnt a long wait I was told it would be 39.99 for her 1st cut but that it would include a bow and some other special and that she would be ready in 3 to 4 hrs. I decided to go to the movies and waste time when I got out I saw the missed call from Petco so I went in to pick her up this is what pissed me off. I let them know I was there to pick up my puppy and the girl informed me that she was too energetic to cut her hair so the stylist didnt feel comfortable doing it. BUT AT LEAST SHE SMELLS GOOD. So i was like uhh okay I said that from the beginning. so the girl said that because of that theyre not going to charge me full price I expected to just pay for the wash or something. SO they told me to pay first it was $33 bucks. what the hell discount is that? So I assumed they must have cut something, I went back and got my puppy NOTHING was done to her she smelled good yes but I could have just sprayed my puppy colonge on her if I wanted that. We usually shop here for our dogs pet food and all the staff have been respectful and helpful. Unfortunately, last Sunday we received poor customer service from the Lead Dog Trainer. We were waiting in line for about 7-10 minutes due to only one cashier at the registers. So another employee started helping out and I believe she was the Lead Dog Trainer. First impression she seemed to be in a bad mood and a rush. She didn't greet us at all and just seemed to rush our transaction. We were trying to communicate with her regarding the free canned dog food with the purchase of the dry food. Katrina was our groomer, it was her first time grooming our Aussie, Dakota. She was very sweet with Dakota, and Dakota liked her right away. I could tell because Dakota gave her a big kiss. She did a great job on her from nose to toes. Katrina was polite, friendly, and professional with us, but importantly she was kind and loving to our dog. If our dog likes you, you have our vote. We were very happy with Katrina, and so was our Aussie girl Dakota. read more

Terrible customer service. They sell sick fishes here. I just assumed at first it had to do with the environment he was in but really the fish they sold me was sick. First of all. My tank has perfect levels and is already establish with 0 nitrite 0 nitrate perfect ph and alkalinity and etc. And already 5 fishes in my tank extremely healthy and thriving. I received a lionfish from them that they guaranteed to be healthy and whatnot. And I was skeptical by how the fish wasn't moving in the tank at all, he even barely ate. I take the fish home and acclimated him for 45 minutes and the fish did good for one day then died the following. When it died it landed on my puffer which ended up killing it as well. So their poor health fish I purchased from them has costed me over 150$ dollars in losses, yet they can't do "returns" on marine life since they know their marine life will die on you either way. Ended up calling corporate and they just gave me a coupon for being a pals rewards member. A customer who brings in $200 to $300 a month for his dogs and salt water fishes.. that money now is never coming back and you might as well keep that coupon and give it to another sap played by your greed. read more

I adopted my adorable cat Miss Lucy from them in 2011 from one of their adoption events. Didn't go back as a regular customer until I went looking for a high end good cat food. Found that and visited each month after that to purchase their food. Also purchased treats and pet toys. A couple of days ago I noticed Lucy scratching her ear. Turns out she had ear mites. I found a coupon on their site that made the visit to their pet hospital free *only for new customers to the hospital * If using this coupon you need to print it out and hand it to them when checking in. I dropped off Lucy at 8:45am and by 11:30am she was done. Picked her up. Brought her home with some medication. All's well. The store,the vet hospital and the grooming area are all very clean. From the store workers/checkers to the vet techs to the groomers, all are very helpful. Oh and they have a great variety of products. :-) read more
