We are new to the area and we needed a groomer. My furbaby is a 12 yr old boxer/sharpei mix. He is loving and sweet but very anxious around other dogs and new people. The girls at the Redmon location took great care of him! they keped him away from other dogs and made us feel comfortable from day 1. Brownie has been getting groomed at least every 2 weeks for the last month or so. They remember him by name and already know he needs deshedding treatment. I love this store - but it's not perfect. First, the pluses: -their grooming dept really IS terrific. Julie is wonderful with dogs. My beast-dog is rather anti-social, but she warmed up to Julie immediately. And Julie totally knew the correct cut for my dog's breed standard. Surprisingly, my dog wasn't stressed out afterwards, too. Bonus. -my kid "won" a goldfish in a school lottery, and the fish grew progressively bigger at our home over time. We upgraded to progressively bigger goldfish bowls, but I seemed to us that there wasn't enough room in the bowl for the fish to comfortably circulate. We went to Petco for advice where we were told that the fish really needed a tank. I didn't want to invest in such a thing, and my kid was really upset, not wanting "Rex" to live an uncomfortable life in a too-small bowl, but not wanting to give him up, either. The nice Petco people said that they regularly "adopt" fishes that people can't keep, and they showed her the huge tank that they'd put Rex in. My kid felt better, seeing all the room and hearing of the care Rex would receive. And she was assured that there was a good chance someone with a tank would adopt Rex, as he was a healthy and hearty looking fish. She wanted him to get a good home. So she gave Rex up to the Petco people. A few weeks later, he was adopted by another family. Kudos to Petco for having this kind of "rescue" program for fish. I thought that was really great of them. -the store is always clean and well-stocked, and I've always found the staff to be knowlegeable in their products. -today we had the beast-dog photographed by a photographer who comes by the store every 3 months or so. This photographer is from the Picture People company, and I've had dreadful luck with this company (see my review of their Lynnwood store and our family's experience there), so I didn't have much faith that this photo shoot would go well. Also, beast-dog doesn't know basic commands like "sit" or "stay", and is an eccentric rescue dog, so I KNEW she wouldn't be compliant. So I was shocked when I saw that the vast majority of the photos taken were outstanding. Literally, outstanding. This photographer - Amanda - was stellar. If you get the opportunity to have your pet photographed by her, jump at the chance. Man, she is a miracle worker, to get so many amazing shots of my pooch! Okay, time for the store's drawbacks: -I'm not crazy how the groomers require 4 hours or so to groom your dog. I wish the time frame was 1-2 hours. I think it's stressful for some dogs to be there for such a long stretch of time. -a few times I was in the store, in the back, in the fish department (when we had beta fish), and I needed assistance, and there was noone to be found. More than once, I needed to walk the store, looking for someone to help me. -the store front is problematic in its design: if it's busy there, there are long lines of folks lining up at the few check-out corners. Add in to the mix the dogs they have with them, and the many free-standing bins up front of toys and bones, etc., and it can be a veritable obstacle course, as the lines need to weave around these bins. Oh, and add to the mix the occasional "event" (i.e., photo area set up with Santa - by the FRONT of the store!), it can be really, REALLY challenging and trying. I do NOT like going to the store when it's busy. It behooves one to go during off-hours. The store's positive aspects far outweigh the negatives for me. I take the dog(Mannfred) there every week for his "spa" service. Great service, they are part of the family now. Been going there for almost 4 years every week! They take amazing care of Mannfred. Very disappointed. Grooming awful will go to VCA on UNION HILL. Petco charged me for a cut when they only washed and blow dried my dogs. You can see that only the anal, vaginal and nails were cleaned. When we discussed and paid for a full haircut. From the moment I got there I was greeted with a negative attitude and before leaving the store, the groomer gave my harvest to the manager to fix, he broke it and I had to buy a new one. If I could give this location negative stars I would. Let me begin by saying I don't DO reviews. I don't care enough to waste my time. I MADE a yelp account just to let people know how awful this location is. This review is specifically for their grooming department. My dog has been groomed by Petco since we have had her (3 years). We originally took her to the Kirkland location and had always had wonderful experiences. Our groomer unfortunately injured herself and become unable to groom larger dogs. We decided to continue grooming with Petco, just switch locations. Upon our first couple of visits, the customer service was always awful. Instead of giving helpful tips or educational advice, they shamed us and made us feel awful for not brushing properly. Fast forward to today. I scheduled a grooming appointment 2 months ago for our girl. I showed up today at 8 am for the appointment and they did not acknowledge my existence upon arrival. They then immediately grabbed a fine tooth comb and started trying to brush through my poodles hair. We have been brushing & de-matting for weeks in anticipation of this visit. They refused to groom her and said it was a new policy. My anger stems more from the lack of decency. If you have new policies in place, wouldn't it be expected to call your customers prior to let them know? I rearranged my work schedule, as well as booking months prior. They were extremely rude and unprofessional. I have never ONCE had an issue with any other groomer. Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Do not waste your time with this place. They are USELESS. I truly hope both girls working here lose their jobs. They are in the wrong industry. read more

As far as the store goes it's just fine. Standard big-box pet supplies store... nothing too special about it. The employees are generally friendly and helpful but seem to lack any specialized knowledge of pet care which kinda sucks when you have a specific question. I used to shop here a lot more before I discovered some other stores in the area that have much more knowledgable staff and even better prices in most cases. I think the grooming salon is hit and miss. There are a few employees who really seem to know their stuff and seem to love animals but, for the others, not so much. I don't like that it takes so long to get your animal groomed. One time I took my dog there to be groomed and came back two hours later to see if he was ready to be picked up and they hadn't even bathed him yet. read more

We had recently moved to the area and decided to take my Husky/ Lab to the groomers for a good bath and brush. In the past, we had always taken him to PetSmart and they only charged me $34.99. We called Petco and they quoted $35-$55, and I figured it would be closer to $35 since that is what their competitor charged. Well, when I picked up my baby, I got a whoppin' $55 bill, just for a bath and brush! We questioned what they did extra to charge more and one of the girls said she used to work at PetSmart and they did nothing different in their B&B process. Another outspoken groomer went on a ramped lecture, not allowing me to say a word, about how she does not work for PetSmart so why would she know why they charge less. She said that the store and corporate is not going to change their pricing for us. She was very rude. We then spoke to the store manager, who called the closest PetSmart and confirmed they would only charge $35 for our dog. And the Manager happily matched their pricing! All in all, I was very happy with the way the store management handled the situation, very polite and understanding. However, the groomer was beyond rude. When I went in to give them a tip, they would not look at me and were talking sh!t about "uninformed customers" and "taking advantage." Not sure what their deal is, they don't set the prices so they shouldn't take my questions so personally. I was just trying to get a fair deal. In the future, they should let the management do the talking. read more

I can't believe this place hasn't gotten some sort of review yet. Alrighty, here goes.... I like this place a lot. I never thought I was going to really like a chain pet store, but I do. I know most of the staff here, and most of them know me (I'm the 'piranha guy'. Ask. They'll know). It's that sort of personal touch that I like so much about the smaller shops, so I am glad I have it here. Their feeder fish are pretty good, usually. Their selection of tank filters needs a bit of work, though. Awesome stuff for furry critters. They just trimmed back their rodent selection, much to the chagrin of my fish. They have good reptiles and frogs, though, so bonus points. Really, at the end of the day, they get high points from me because they remember me and my pets. They ask about them. They make suggestions. They know what I feed them. They know what I buy. They really are *my* go-to guys. read more

This review is mainly for the grooming department. I take my small chihuahua here to have a bath, get his nails trimmed, and have his anal glands expressed once per month. I brought him in frantically one afternoon because I had just adopted my dog and he would not stop licking his butt! I thought something was wrong but after research found it was likely his anal glands were full. When I walked in they were very nice and one of the groomers (Hope) examined his glands and let me know that they were very full. She explained how often they needed to be expressed and even how to do it at home, if we found my dog was aggressive. I had to go home to get his vaccinations, when I arrived again she took him back and expressed his glands. He felt much better. Ever sense that day I've come to Hope to have him cleaned up. She is very patient and gentle with him. She always suggests new ways we can make the process more comfortable for him. He is still getting used to human interaction and she is always patient and updates me with how he did that time. She seems to treat him like one of her own pets and I appreciate that. I've always had good experiences with phone support while I'm making appointments and all the groomers and other associates are very friendly. This store does not have a huge variety of anything. I'd say it's the convenience store of pet stores. What you will find, though, is low associate turn-over rates which means you often get to speak with the same person again. Very friendly associates who often ask if you have found everything ok and can make suggestions when they don't carry a certain product. read more

Very friendly. I asked where to find an item for my dog. The clerk walked me right to it. As I was walking towards the front of the store I was approached by another clerk inquiring if I needed help. As I checked out I was greeted with a smile and the clerk wanted to know if I found everything I needed. Store was clean and orderly, staff was very helpful and friendly. I have bought my dog's food here for 7 years I have had him since he is sensitive to certain foods (buy the purina sensitive stomach foods). Additionally, I have had his nails trimmed about every other month for his entire life. He is easy to trim behind, but not easy to trim on his front paws and requires two handlers; he does NOT bite but struggles. I was told the last time I took him to your store not to bring him back again because he takes too much time (about 5-10 minutes at most), and that he is not welcome back. Period. At the same time I observed the handlers complain about trimming a matted dog (because one handler was having to stay after her shift ended to assist). And from clipping a number of dogs and horses, her blades were not sharp. I have taken awhile to write this to you to calm my anger with the company, but I will NOT be going back (even though that means I have to drive much further to go to another pet store). If this is how the dog handlers treat dogs and (long term) customers, I am done. read more

Had a great trip to the pet store today! Ended up getting a new fish tank, some better food for my cats, and had a lot of questions. The employees were very nice, helped me find everything I was looking for, and I would have marked them as five stars except they didn't have everything I needed for the tank. However, it was a large tank that probably doesn't get purchased often so it is understandable; but it means I wasn't able to get everything in one stop unfortunately. This is about their grooming department, specifically the manager Kaci. She is horrible. Very rude and condescending. There was another dog in the waiting area when I walked in and kacie barked at me do you have a dog with you because if you do you need to wait outside because we only allow one dog in here at a time. I should have left at that moment. Totally fine you only let one dog in but I'm a paying customer, don't bark orders at me. There was a new girl that started and Kacie was barking orders at her and was just rude. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

This review is specifically for the aquatics department. The new aquatics specialist (I forgot her name, sorry!) and her new staff have done an amazing job with the fish here. The tanks are spotless and no snails to be seen, and rarely have I seen a dead fish in the last six months. The staff are also quite knowledgeable, as in they own their own fish tank setups and will most definitely let you know if you're overstocked and not doing right by your fish. The staff are also very friendly. Compare that with the other popular store that starts it's name with Pet - their entire system is being re-done after some issue and a sales associate sold a woman 3 feeder goldfish for a 1 gallon tank (how many do you think I can have in this little tank? Yeah, you could put like 3 of them in there. They'll live like 3 to 6 months) Granted these are feeder fish but that is just wrong advice. Not only will they die, they will live a stressed out life till so - that just feels wrong. Petco also has $ per gallon which is by far the best sale you can find for tanks 40+. Smaller ones it doesn't make too much of a difference. The reason this is 4 stars and not 5 stars is more Petco and not anything on the staff: - 1/2 star because they don't have the best selection of accessories and maintenance products - often I'll have to resort to Amazon to get what i need (filter material etc). - 1/2 star because the bettas are still in those tiny bowls and just look sad. I've seen the odd one close to death, they should really keep these guys in little tanks, and stop carrying "betta homes". The first instinct for new buyers is not to research, they come in and buy the smallest tanks for themselves or kids, unfortunately small means MORE not less maintenance in the fish world and it ends up dying in days or weeks. Petco will hopefully one day address the abuse of these wonderful fish. read more

Standard petco, when I come to these places It's for either fish or fish related products. Or for dog grooming. This location was still rumored to have a saltwater section so I went to check it out! Hmmm not a single reef tank here. Just some live rock which they don't even sell here. Their prices are very cheap compared to local saltwater competitors. Makes me wonder what quality of saltwater fish you're buying. The freshwater selection is similar to other locations. For basic hardy fish petco does the job (platies, swordtails, mollies, tetras etc.) but they lack that unique aspect! They sell Oscar fish wayy too young. Three stars for a clean and organized store for all pet needs. I'll get dog and fish food here but that's it. read more

This is a review for the groomers, Courtney and Lacey. I appreciated the fact that Courtney called us to let us know that we could bring our dog in for grooming. One challenge with petco is that they don't have a good system for booking grooming appointments and their text messages notifying you don't work. Anyway, we got our dog signed up and the grooming went okay although Courtney was late when we dropped him off and late when we picked him up. It means a loss of a lot of time when that happens. The second time we finally got scheduled and for some reason she cut off much of the hair on his tail for no reason! So odd....when I asked she said he had some mats but he didn't. Again she was late taking him and late finishing up with him beyond what she said so I had to wait around - like 45 minutes extra. I had brushed him before taking him in and he didn't have any mats on his tail. I don't think they actually know what they are suppose to groom for which dog breed. They also make you sign a detailed paperwork saying you know that something could happen to your dog while being groomed. I'm okay with that but it doesn't work both ways when they do whatever they want to your dog! Then they apparently had me scheduled when I didn't think I was and I never received a notice so I didn't know. Then when I did think I was scheduled they didn't have me on their schedule so Lacey had to fit us in. They charged a fee for being a dog that they bathe through, meaning focus on only one dog however she took other dogs at the same time so it didn't seem fair. It's always a question as to what my final dog bathing price will be! I finally was so frustrated I took our dog to somewhere else and he looks wonderful and I realize that they have not been brushing him before bathing him (which might explain why he was always wet behind the ears which became mats). Bottom line, I think they are both nice people but not experienced at what they do. Grooming is a big money maker for Petco I would think but they don't put the right resources into helping them and they need an effective scheduling plan. read more

Always sad when I go to their saltwater department and see fish with fin rot and half dead anemone's from improper lighting (hint, don't buy a white anemone or one gaping open). That said, if you get a fish or coral there, it's probably pretty well bulletproof if it'll survive in their tanks. read more

I have been taking my large doodle to a couple of small business groomers with good reputations and I was reasonably satisfied. One of them went out of business and I decided to follow up on a recommendation from a friend for the grooming at petco. Laci was very involved in working with me on what I wanted. She seemed like a real dog person. She put a lot of time and care into his haircut and it was his best ever. Rather than being a big box uncaring experience, I felt that she was less rushed and more caring than the groomers at the small "boutiques" I had been to before. read more

Not a good grooming experience-got a call an hour after dropped our mellow golden retriever off that he was biting and they couldn't get him the kennel and then when we picked our dog up they proceeded to tell us that our dog food (science diet) was garbage and that it was responsible for our dogs hot spots. I feel as if Petco has been going downhill lately. This store still has a great variety of pet food available, but the days are gone when you could trust Petco as a pet specialty store to only stock quality products. Many of the foods carried at the store are the same very low quality foods that a person could buy at Walmart or the supermarket. They have some good brands like Natural Balance and Wellness, but you need to know something about food quality in order to be sure that what you are purchasing from Petco is actually healthy for your pet since they carry some truly worthless brands as well. I've used the Petco groomer in the past, and have been less than impressed by their customer service recently-- so much so that I recently changed to a new groomer. They book the appointments very far in advance, and there were times recently where the groomer was unable to see my dog for several weeks from the date I called. As most dog owners have probably experienced, there are times when ANY wait for grooming is too long. Dogs jump in the mud. Dogs roll on a very dead bird. Dogs dash through brambles and get them knotted in their coats. I can understand a wait of several days if the groomer is busy, but being told that nothing can be booked any sooner than two and a half weeks out tells me that the place is understaffed. I've also been put on hold with the grooming department for very long periods when attempting to schedule an appointment-- long enough to have to sit through three or four horrible, horrible recorded pop songs. The last time I called, I was on hold for about ten minutes only to have someone pick up the phone, speak to a coworker next to her rather than to me, and then put me back on hold without saying a word to me. Baffled, I gave up-- and gave up on bringing my dog back to Petco for grooming any time soon! read more

I have been taking my Border Collie "Luna" to be groomed at Petco in Redmond since I rescued her 8 years ago. The day I rescued her I stopped there on my way home to bath her before I came home. That was the day we met Julie the groomer for the first time. She is amazing. She grooms Luna every 12 weeks. We do volunteer work and visit the elderly in an assisted living home in Seattle twice a month. Luna is well trained and very loving. Julie is so good to her and does a lovely job and i have peace of mind leaving her there! Give that girl a raise!! Thanks Julie!! read more

Today, 2/26/19 I went into the Redmond,WA. Petco store to buy my grandson a 26 cents gold fish. A young salesman came up to me and asked if he could help me. I told him I wanted to buy one gold fish for my grandson. The salesman asked me what size tank that he had. I said I think it was around a gallon. The salesman told me he could not sell me a goldfish because my grandson's tank was too small and this is the store's policy.. Then I said I cannot believe this! The salesman then said that he is worried about the well being of all the animals. So, I asked to see the store manager. A young manager with a ring in his nose came out and I explained to him just what happen. This manager concur with the salesman. Then I asked the manager is he willing to lose me, a 67 year old man, as a customer over 26 cents the cost of a goldfish? The manager said yes! WOW! Now if I was the owner of this store I would have this young manager take another "customer service" class or maybe two. I took my dog some time ago and got the worse possible treatment. THey have a pet groomer July Mcdonald who mistook me for another guy and had this completely rude and unprofessional behavior. I was completely shocked by that. I was scared to leave my dog there and had called and complained. But no response so far from Petco. I have officially boycotted Petco. We had tried others much closer to our home, but were never happy until we found the Redmond Petco grooming salon. PLUS, Julie and her staff have never been anything but friendly, helpful, honest, and professional with us. Not a great store but fine for run of the mill pet supplies. Bathrooms are some of the worst I've seen anywhere. We come here because it's close and convenient, not because it's a great store. Be careful buying fish here. Got all my fish from here within the last couple months and had to deworm them already, and they really needed it! I don't feed them live food either. read more

LOVE this place.!! I used to go to other groomers and they would "nik" my dogs (particularly the small 5lb dog). After I moved to Redmond about 4 years ago and the Petco Grooming newly opened then. I tried the grooming at this Petco and since then, my dogs never have to suffer any cuts of any kind. Julie is my groomer and the only one I trust. I LOVE them. If I could give zero stars I would. Grooming department is terrible. My dog came back with cuts and scrapes. The manager is beyond rude. I purchased the full package all the bells and whistles, and didn't get all that was promised. My appointment was for 10:30, but somehow got re-booked for 11:30, and I was told I could pick my dog up at 2, I came by he wasn't done and the manager snapped at me and said he wouldn't be ready until 3:30. I was back at 3:30, and had to wander around the store until 4pm. All in all my dog was there for 5 hours. He wouldn't stop shaking - he was very scared. When I got him home I noticed he was bleeding in 3 places, and has some welts from the trimmers. No stars from me. The petco in Kirkland does a much better job and is far gentler. You can tell they actually like animals. read more

For the second time within 3 months, my dog's appointment for grooming was canceled after arriving at the store. I travel from Prineville to Redmond for this service. The reason I was given for this last cancellation was that the manager had cut the groomer's hours. I asked the lady why she didn't call me about the change in her hours, she just shrugged. Asked to talk with a manager and that was like talking to a post. This store certainly doesn't believe in customer service, needless to say, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I am so finished with Petco. This store is typical in the chain; over priced for not-great-quality items and, frankly, tacky. To add to my disgust some Petco stores I have been in had fleas. Yep, I know this for a fact because I've gotten bitten and I've seen one on my all-white dog. I love my All The Best Pet store. Horriable customer service. An employee shouted at me and asked me get out of her store after I asked if she could match the price. I have had a Pals Reward account since 2010, never asked for price match before. My dog vomited last night after I fed her a new flavor of a can food I just bought three days ago from the store. I was worried, so I brought the brand new, unopen food with the new flavor back to store and hope I could exchang to the same flavor that my dog always had before. They are same brand, same price, just different flavor, but I did use a manufacture coupon 3 days ago. I asked for the price match. She was impatient and asked me to leave. After I requested to talk to store manage, she even told me she is the one and souted at me asked me to GET OUT OF HER STORE. I reported this incident to Petco customer service line, and found out she's an associate not a store manager. No one should be treated like this. I would not visit this store again. read more
