I was looking for a grooming spot for my Labrador and went to several places speaking with staff and checking out their facilities. I was very impressed with Petco's grooming department. Before entering the department I stood outside and watched a grooming in progress. No other facility has the option to actually watch a grooming. The facility was clean. The manager spent time explaining services, looking at my dog's coat and skin before giving me a recommendation. I booked an appointment with Sydney. I can't say enough how impressed and pleased I am! My boy looked fabulous after his spa day; clean, shiny and absolutely no shedding! The fee was extremely reasonable. Abby is the worst check out person. I was at this store six weeks ago and she was the cashier. She was so awful and I thought she has to be new and why isn't someone shadowing her. Then she was my checkout person again today and she was rude, rude, rude. The first thing she said to me was do you want to leave a tip for your groomer. I said yes but I need to make sure I get my dog's free grooming. She said yes but do you want to leave a tip for the groomer. I said yes but I need to make sure I receive my rewards. I will but do you want to receive a tip. I said you asked me that three times and she said I have to do that first before I do anything else. ( At this point she had applied the free grooming. ) I did not say anything because I know that wasn't true. This was my 15+ grooming appointment with the Petco stores in Tempe, Chandler, and now Queen Creek. The tip is always applied at the end of the transaction. I came in very last minute for a walk-in nail file & trim for both of my dogs, and Morgan was willing to accept both of them even though she already had her hands full. Morgan was very kind and professional and did a fantastic job on the nails despite her probably being exhausted at the end of the shift. I use to shop here but about 5 years ago they were awful so I vowed to not shop there anymore. We decided to start going back about a month ago for little things, and it's been fine. I made the mistake of taking my kids to get some things to liven up their small 20gal long tank, as our usual actual pet store is farther away and closed... it's faster to buy a firearm. Just as many questions though. They are fish experts and know everything about anything so if you have questions go there. That's what earned them a star! They will let you know what you can and can't buy and what you should and should not buy. Super helpful of you don't have any tank knowledge, or if you are like myself and have only been caring for tanks for 15 years. Then if you pass the question portion and they still aren't satisfied they will talk to their manager because the irresponsible tank owner wants to buy shrimp for his children's tank. Id assume it's due to people using them as feeders, or illegal underground fish fighting, or they are worried about fish trafficking. Stupid either way they sell literal feeders there. I don't need a lecture from a kid my sons age about water levels or tank cycling or algae in my tank. Scan my $7 with shrimp and move on. read more

Terrible Reptile section. Juvenile Uromastyx, beardys, and leopard geckos all on calcium sand which will lead to compaction. Every reptile looks lethargic and didn't seem as if there was proper heating/lighting in any of the enclosures. read more

I set up a 6 session private training for my dog. Got the first session in quickly then had to wait almost a month for the second. Mazy (dog trainer) last minute rescued THREE sessions. All with 24 hours or less of the session.. Completely unacceptable and frustrating experiences. She then stated we had an end date of basically one week with 3 more sessions to go (due to scheduling issues). She never took ownership that those issues were because of HER scheduling issues. We spent a lot of money on training we ended up not getting due to her negligence and inability to have proper time management. read more

Am not impressed. I ordered the home delivery service because it came with a $26 discount on my first order of a 35 lb bag. I received a 47 lb bag of the puppy version, so I cant use it. The manager saved the day though by searching through his system until he found some coupons which gave me a twenty percent discount. Absolute Kaos!!!! Took my older puppy and 6-year-old Chihuahua to this location to get their nails trimmed and shots. Went to the website to do all the research prior to this. I had an appointment there to get my puppy's shots this same morning and my husband and I are also looking to get a new large aquarium. So I intended to shop here for this as well. The young lady in the grooming area where I had my first encounter with them was very cold and unfriendly from the get-go, but I proceeded to give her my information because my puppy was very very nervous and had actually pulled out of her collar and leash and took off for the door. WELP!!! They have the doors WIDE OPEN! Sooooo my puppy took off for the parking lot. Of course, someone helped me get her back into her collar and leash, but clearly, she was not staying and continued to try to run for the lot. Exactly as this was happening, yet another shopper's dog had also broken loose and headed for the parking lot. Ok so this was scarey!! I asked the already unfriendly gal to please have the manager come up front so that we could ask that she close the doors to avoid this happening again to others. While I waited for the manager, I was then informed that because I did not have my puppies shots yet, that not only could I not have her nails trimmed, but I also had to wait 24 hours until I could bring her back. Now I had researched their website the day before so that I knew I could bring my dogs there with no issues or waiting for an appointment. NOWHERE ON THEIR WEBSITE DO THEY STATE ALL DOGS WILL BE REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF ARIZONA TO HAVE THEIR SHOTS UP TO DATE IN ORDER TO GET THEIR NAILS TRIMMED- That was not the issue. I get it- It really had not crossed my mind at all. But had this been on their website, to begin with- welp, I and probably many others would not have wasted time. Anyways- the manager finally came up front to talk with me. Scratch that- to talk AT me. I tried to explain to her that there have now been a couple of dogs who have darted out their wide open door- but I could not get a word in. EVEN WHEN I ASKED HER TO PLEASE LET ME FINISH! She continued to talk over me, and not even let me say anything. Before I could even get 1 word out of my mouth- I finally had to speak louder and over her, just to ask if she could please shut the door- Never have I ever been approached like that where I could not even speak or be heard. It was embarrassing! She rambled on and on about how they were having a pet adoption day and most likely the volunteers had left it open. Excuses and blame in a very loud overbearing tone- That was it for me. This is not how you treat customers when they are inquiring about safety. I came into Petco this morning actually planning on spending a few hundred dollars between my dog's shots, getting their nails trimmed, and purchasing a new Aquarium with the complete setup but walked out not spending a dime and going somewhere else- Yes- I fully intend to call corporate on Monday morning. read more

I am confused ... Judy is the best groomer in Queen Creek at Petco. I have 14 dogs and followed Judy from another location to Petco in Queen Creek. I have always seen her treat her groomers with respect and she could have easily taken a few rescues for herself to groom... instead she gave to the other groomers... to get the handsome tips I give for her team doing the rescues. My dog needed a quick bordetella vax for an unplanned day stay in a dog hotel . We called and they were having a vaxx clinic. We spoke to a person who checked with the clinic and they said if we were there by 1:30 they would give it to her. He said he would let them know we were coming. My husband was 2 minutes late, but had to stand in line for a while. The woman there wouldn't give it to her. 2 minutes late? The guy on the phone said he had spoken to them and assured us to come. No wonder this location has low ratings. I just met the manager. And she's a terrible person. They had stacks of tidy cat litter with a sign marking it 12.99. I purchased two of them and they rang up 27.99! The cashier was very nice and we walked back there where he brought the sign to the manager. BEATRICE. She never said hello or apologized. The first thing she said to me was "the sign Clearly says it's for the 35lb" (emphasizing the clearly part and saying this in an aggressive tone) After she said it she just spun away from me. I pointed out to her that they shouldn't put not sale items together with sale items. She then said it's not their fault it's stacked there. I asked if she was the manager and told her she has terrible customer service skills since she's being so aggressive and which point she told me she was the manager without changing her tone. Even the cashier that I was working with was apologizing to me for Her! When i went to leave, while she was with other customers, she stopped to tell out to me in an extremely taunting and snotty tone, "thank you!" Nails were only tipped, hair was either choppy or not even trimmed. He even smells the same... STINKS. I don't even think they bathed him. No matter what Judy claims, she is not telling the truth. Our dog had a leg problem which we informed her of 3 times. We told her to take special care because of it. When we went to pick her up, Judy complained that Jingle wouldn't stand up for her. She probably damaged her leg further in trying to force her to stand. She was walking at home before we brought her for grooming and couldn't walk when we got her home. She still can't walk. I cried for days after her grooming! It's bad enough you injured her. Don't make it even worse by lying about it. Really, how dare you! read more

My Family and I went in last week,June 7th to get our Daughter a fish for her 2nd Birthday. Christian a salesperson helped us pick out a beta saying it was a great fish for the kids and helped us get a tank and all the accessories. We checked out and $150.00 later we walked out with a new member of our family. Fast forward to this week. We celebrated our Daughters birthday on Saturday with family and our parents that came from Las Vegas,we went excitedly to show everyone our new fish and he was floating on the bottom of the tank dead. So today we took the dead beta back to store,it says the fish are "Guaranteed by petco fo 30 days" Christian the same man who helped us the week prior was there again and we told him what happened and he pointed to a hand written sign that says no fish can be returned unless they are in a established tank for 6 weeks. He never said any of that when he sold us the fish. We showed him on the corporate website that they had a 30 day guarantee and said we just want to get a replacement fish because the kids had been crying all morning. He said NO, you will have to pay for another fish. We went back and forth not understanding. He was so rude and kept pointing at the hand written sign. Christian the "manager" was extremely unprofessional and aggressive. He had no customer service skills AT ALL. We asked for another manager and he said there wasn't any,we said call someone. He said they where on leave. He was so RUDE and was not willing to help us at all. After a half hour and nice lady Kim came over and told us she was the manager. Christian the "manager" stormed off and hid in the back of the store? Kim helped us and disposed of the dead beta and gave us a new one. She had great customer service and was willing to listen and help us. Christian is a young arrogant man and we will be writing to corporate about him. She was polite, held a great conversation (and gave me tips on how to help my dog's behavior...he's naughty sometimes), AND she encouraged me to even sign up for yall's program, which I hardly ever do. There's an employee there named Tristin who on three separate occasions has provided me superior customer service... Very nice very knowledgeable and super friendly he is definitely a superstar at the store... I felt so strongly about this but I left a message for the general manager to call me so I could let them know what a stellar employee this Tristin is, but this general manager never called me back so I wanted to leave the review here on yelp with hopes that the owner or general manager will see this comment. I'm so disappointed with Petco grooming. I took my dachshund to get her nails done and she always gets very nervous. Usually they're very sweet to her and calm her down. Well today when getting her nails done she was crying and the girl kept saying "bad dog Mila" in a really stern, mean voice. It broke my heart. My poor girl was just nervous and instead of comforting her she was scolded. I've worked with animals before and I just really don't think this was the appropriate way to approach a nervous animal. In regards to the grooming service and one particular employee in that department: Rene is amazing and always leaves our Dane the happiest boy (even when he goes in for the not so pleasant things). My pups are my babies and I don't trust them with people lightly. I highly recommend if you're making any kind of grooming appointment to make it with Rene. She is always kind, friendly and the sweetest to my boy! She remembered him after only being in there once weeks prior to going back in - that alone speaks volumes in my mom dog book! As for the grooming service - for a pup as big as mine the pricing is great and he always comes out clean as a whistle (and it's A LOT of ground to cover). read more

Visited this Petco today while I was out this way. The store layout is pretty nice and it was clean and organized. I was greeted when I walked in door. I picked up a few items and headed to the cash register. Two lanes seemed to be open and one cashier was having an issue with a coupon ringing. The other cashier (presumably a manager) stopped what she was doing at her register without explanation to the guest she was helping and went to help the other cashier. Once that was resolved and the cashier that was presumably the manager was done ringing her customer I headed over to her lane. She said, oh I'm closed. meanwhile I was lugging a 20lb cat litter back and forth to the register. I went to get back in line to the other register while the cashier that had just told me she was closed was just standing there staring around. This is not in any way good customer service. There were also two other associates with the door open to a break room around the corner laughing a messing around in the doorway. I was the only person in line waiting to be assisted and it probably took a good ten minutes or more just to be rung up for two items. The only redeeming factor was that the cashier who rung me up was very nice especially considering that she was the only one who seemed to really be working. Get it together Petco. Your competition is right across the street. read more

My dogs have visited the groomer at this location twice now since we moved here a year ago. I'm writing the review as I'm blown away at the service of both groomers. When making appointments I'll be sure to ask for these two girls going forward. One of my dogs is 14 years and he is at the end of the average life expectancy for his breed. About three years ago we visited the Vetco/Petco in Tempe/Chandler where we resided previously and had a bad reaction to the vaccine. We ended up having to take him to our regular vet, where they explained that senior dogs do experience adverse reactions to the rabies vaccine and provided a note excusing him from vaccines going forward. The girls here were completely understanding of our situation and took a copy of the note for his records. Both experiences of my two dogs have been wonderful and they do such an excellent job listening to my grooming restrictions on each pet. Thank you for doing an amazing job! read more

I have never brought my Morkie before for grooming here but I always take her to the grooming on Val vista and Warner. But this petco is much closer for me so I booked an appt for bath and haircut, Big Mistake. Red flags everywhere. I shouldn't have left my dog there. The girl who was supposed to cut her hair was not very friendly with my dog, didn't seem to be happy about being there. She had lots of scratches and marks all over her arms which was a red flag for me. She said she could get my dog done fast so I was excited for that. But then I got a call maybe an hour later that supposedly my dog was Aggressive and scratched her. My dog has never ever scratched or been aggressive towards anyone, no one at her old groomers has said anything about her ever, they always have good things to say. So the girl on the phone tells me "i have very bad news" which makes me think my dog is hurt .. then she says that she wouldn't continue to cut my dogs hair because she was scratching and being "aggressive". she's a 7lb morkie who is around children all the time, and always gets groomed without a problem and not once has ever hurt anyone, so to me that is crazy . She started telling me "well then the other groomers probably never tell you how BAD your dog is " .. wow. I should have stuck to the other groomers on Val vista, they def know how to work better with dogs. Dogs do sense things in certain people and the fact that she was very apathetic towards her job, and my dog, and had multiple scratches makes me think she was not very kind or gentle to my dog or is not good at handling grooming dogs. My dog was shaking uncontrollably in the car ride home and was hiding in the corner of the house after we got home. I will NEVER do business with this petco ever again. Been there 4 times. Brought my lab in for a shave and bath. First time judy did it, and did a good job. Second time Judy did it he didn't smell as clean, and she forgot to shave his tail. 3rd time Julia did it, still didn't smell as fresh, but shave was done beautifully. 4th time I brought my lab in and my new Aussie mix. With Shannon. My lab got done, didn't smell as fresh as the first time, but softer, maybe a better shampoo? But my Aussie mix didn't even get touched, she said she was too matted and she had to shave her. I don't want her shaved. But she wasn't matted. She told me all other groomers would tell me the same. So The second I got home grabbed a brush a, took her to anther groomer. The groomer said it was possible for her to have a bath and brush. That she wasn't matted. The groomer took my brush and brushed her right infront of me and her little tangles came out EASILY! if she was matted there was no way I could brush through it easily or at all. This girl was lazy , wanted more money, didn't know what she was doing and was dishonest. Pretty disappointing. read more

As always, Chelsea did a wonderful job grooming our pups, not just with the great quality of their baths and nail trims, but she always shows them so much love and I know that she genuinely cares for them. It's wonderful to be able to establish a relationship with a groomer, not just for us, but for them. One of our pups has anxiety disorders and is on meds, but his monthly "spa day" as we call it, is still very stressful for him. It makes a difference that he gets to see the same friendly face each time. We've always had the best experience at our QC PetCo and we wouldn't think of going anywhere else! read more

Staff is always friendly and helpful. The Manager, "Beatrice" is as rude as it gets. I tried to purchase Hamster Bedding, price tag on the shelf said$14.99, it rang up $22.99. She refused to honor the price because she didn't know where I pulled the bedding from and apparently the SKU did not match . As a Customer, I do not compare the SKUs and if your staff does not ensure the accuracy, that is on the Store not the Customer. I also don't appreciate that she suggested that I was lying. She didn't care about any of it, as she walked away and left the Cashier to deal with it herself. Bad Customer Service and she definitely needs training on how to deal with Customers! read more

Took my dog to be groomed and Rene did an amazing job! She was kind and professional and even put one of her own homemade bows on my dog! You can tell when someone loves what they do and strives to satisfy customers. Great experience and I will be going back from here on. read more
