Bought 47# bag of purina pro plan dog food. Spent 93.00$. After feeding her for about a week. She became sick. Had to take her to the vet hospital on the weekend. It cost 1178.00 on tests and scans. And was diagnosed with gastritis. Stoped Dog food for three days. And she was on bland diet. Resumed food and she became sick again. So inspected her food and found bugs. WTF. Inspected bag and found Petco taped the bottom of bag. It is contaminated with larvae form that store. Complained to store in the past about the service and got no response. Everyone in the store is quite friendly. There's always someone around the corner to help, or someone asking if you need anything. They have a room where you can pet cats that are up for adoption and it is sooo hard to resist. All of the animals in tanks look healthy and the tanks are clean, which is something that a lot of Petco stores don't seem to keep up with as well. Petco is rating ferrets at a intermediate level of difficulty and I disagree, it should be high. I've learned after speaking with several exotic animal vets is that the Marshall company (who supplies ferrets to stores like Peto) and they are not humane in their "production" of these animals, but because Petco and PetSmart, ect buy and sell them; the cycle continues. I've had ferrets for 30 years and as much as I adore them, they are like toddlers and need constant supervision. They have no fear unless they have been mishandled, and this leads to them getting into a lot of trouble. It can be difficult to find a vet who can really treat ferrets, and because they are so inbred they usually end up with cancer. Finding good food for them can be expensive. We have rescued many ferrets that were purchased by at Petco and ended up on Craigslist. Ferrets are awesome! Just educate yourself before buying one and consider a rescue. read more

my roommates and I are looking for another pet roommate, and we decided to visit this petco. One, when we got there nobody requested to help us look for a pet. Also, when we asked to touch and experience one of the small animals the worker proceeded to say "no. Since covid happenEd we can't let anybody touch the animals". Meanwhile their masks were off and I know for sure some of them didn't get vaccinated. How are you going to tell me that I cannot touch an animal because of covid but you do not have on a mask and I'm pretty positive they don't wash their hands. I have been taking my dog here for a few years now. The grooming salon does a great job and all of the employees are really friendly and nice. They have a low cost vaccination clinic a few weekends a month, sure you wait in line but the prices are well worth it. They also have have a lot of different in store events, which are fun. The Halloween party they have every year is so cute and funny. I always have great customer service and have never had a problem. read more

Hearbreakingly Abhorrent Customer Service from Manager My wife and I went to Petco to get some toys for our cat's birthday. While there, we saw that they had a ferret for sale. The ferret was by herself, and my wife and I admired this little cutie for quite some time. We were approached by a crew member, who, seeing that we were obviously entranced by this ferret, offered to let us hold her. While we were holding her, the crew member told us about the ferret: that she was the runt of the litter and the last one remaining from her shipment, and that she had an adorable personality, which quickly became apparent with the more time that we spent with her. I put her back in the cage, and my heart soared when she immediately jumped up onto the side of the cage to be picked up again. After about half an hour of bonding time, the crew member could see that we were both enamored with the ferret, and offered to take us to the register so that we could purchase her. We eagerly agreed, looking greatly forward to making this little girl the newest member of our family. Unfortunately, upon arriving at the register, we were informed by the store's manager, who was running the register, that the manager herself was apparently going to take the ferret home at the end of the week. She stated that she had cleared this with her district manager, and had begun to make payments and accumulate supplies in preparation for taking this ferret home. She made no bones about the fact that this ferret was not for sale. While I fully appreciate the plans of someone to add a new pet to a loving home, I find it to be deeply concerning that there was no physical indication for customers that this ferret was not for sale. There was no sign on the cage that said that the ferret had been sold. There wasn't even a sign (as I have seen upon previous visits to multiple Petcos) that the ferrets were "too new" and not available for sale yet. There was only a pricetag. What is even more concerning is that the manager had obviously failed to communicate the fact that she had reserved this ferret to her staff. The staff, unaware of this fact, could have assisted any number of customers with the potential purchase of this ferret. In our case, we were unknowingly led down the garden path - allowed to bond and get information regarding the care of this ferret - to the point that we both had immediately fallen in love and were eager to take this little girl home with us. The emotional shock when these hopes were dashed against the rocks by the manager was crushing. I am in no way saying that I want to take ownership of this ferret from the manger. I simply want to implore Petco to impart to all of their employees the importance of good communication with their staff and their customers. I sincerely hope that no one else has to have as heartbreaking of an experience at this Petco that we did. TL;DR: Wife and I wanted to buy a ferret after having time to bond with it for half an hour at the store. Manager said that she herself had reserved the ferret. Manager neglected to post "not for sale" sign on cage or inform her staff of this fact. read more

I was looking for a pet carrier for my cat and they didn't really have many to choose from and IMO the ones they did have were more than I was really trying to spend. Petco.com made a mistake and sent me cat food instead of dog food. This put me in a bind since they could not ship me my replacement in time before I ran out of food. The specific brand I get is not carried in the store. Tom, the general manager came to my rescue.... I had a horrible first experience here with the grooming salon. My golden doodle puppy went for her first ever haircut and I said no to all the available additions so that it would be $50 for hair/nail cut. When I picked her up she was completely bald except for her bushy tail. The coat was $80 because they didn't listen to me telling them no thank you. It's been 3 weeks and she still looks ridiculous. When I filled out the survey I was told because I was dissatisfied I would receive a call in 24 hours. Like I said it's been 3 week and no call. I even contacted customer service who promised I would here from someone the next day... that was a week ago. Next time I'll give petsmart a try. Worst customer service Ive seen in a long time. The staff and especially the manager at the McKnight Road Petco have no consideration or concern for their customers including disabled ones. I was in there recently to purchase dog food and a young boy was running through the store UNSUPERVISED, screaming, knocking things over, doing whatever he pleased, and then he approached my cart put his hands on the front of it and proceeded to push the cart and me backwards. I continued to ask him to stop and also where his parents were but he just screamed. I'm disabled and it was difficult for me. Put stress on my spine and legs etc. after he ran off I saw the manager talking to a man and woman so I asked if he belonged to them. He did. The father was nice. The mother well I'll bite my tongue. The manager just listened. The husband kept telling his wife to shut up. But she did not. Long story short I had to call 911. I proceeded to the front of the store and she was still talking to the manager, her girlfriend. I sat down on the only chair I saw. I was in pain from the incident. The manager walked over to me and said if the officer doesn't show up soon you will have to stand and give up that chair. She had no sympathy for what just happened in her store. Only continuing the conversation with her rude girlfriend. I give this store and the manager a zero rating. I would NEVER RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE!!! And, as far as anyone with children, please contain them. You need to watch over them to protect them not only for their safety but also for the safety of others. You could have held your child, leashed him, had him in a cart, many options. But they chose to neglect him, not supervise him and let him run wild by himself. I later found out he was 3-4 yrs old unattended. If someone would have walked out the door with that little boy while unattended his mother would have blamed it on whoever took him. I'd blame it on her for not supervising and being responsible for her child. She was neglecting him. And lastly, the manager and the mother should bother be a bit more understanding of those who are disabled or of what that child could have done to just anyone by tripping them, knocking down a can of dog food that they slipped on, slamming the cart into them, etc. you never know what others are going through so please be kind. Petco is ok. This particular Petco never really feels overly clean, and it's not because they allow pets. It's just dingy. But they have pet supplies. Isn't that what you're looking for? The prices seem in line with other pet stores, some food and general items you'd probably be able to get cheaper at the next door Target, though. They have dog grooming and periodically they have a low cost vaccination clinic on Saturday. The parking lot is usually jammed because of the Kohls and Target next door so be careful if you do bring our pet into this location. read more

Had the best customer service experience with an associate there, Kalil. I came in with my drinkwell and needed help taking it apart and getting the motor to work again. He knew exactly what to do, cleaned the motor and offered to clean the entire device. He gave me advice as to how to keep it from getting clogged and showed me where the other accessories for it were kept. Very professional the entire time, pleasant and helpful. I took my Staffy x Lab with high anxiety to get a nail trim. He's 70lbs and very anxious about everything. The girls were awesome with him. They did his nails, brushed his teeth and cleaned his ears with no issues. That's quite a feat! He gave them kisses and a wiggle butt when we left. We will be going back regularly. read more

This morning my daughter and I took our dog out to petco to get her rabies vaccine which turned out to be a complete disaster. We arrived at the store around 10am their was maybe 4or5 people in front of us so the vetco rep came up to us and we signed in and she told us that she would send a text to my phone which would be in about 15mins or so and that we should walk around the store and check things out so thats what we did. Well after 15mins or so we did not receive any text but went back to the line anyways well now their was 10 more customers waiting and we somehow were put behind them on the waiting list. Ok now we finally get up to were we talk to another vetco rep a young girl who i guess was an assistant she started asking us questions about zoey and we tried to answer them as best as we could and she started to try to build up a package of vaccinations that she said we would need. I said all we needed was the basic rabbies shot well now she starts talking to us like we were poor dog owners and starts to scare my daughter on the problems that we could cause for zoey if not getting this package. while we deal with this assistant pushing us to buy the more expensive package the actual vet is arguing with the people in front of us about their cats which makes a big scene. 2 hours later since we first signed up we finally make a package and with both my daughter who is now in tears over this and I get up to the vet who is nasty since she had just gotten into an argument with the customer in front of us so she pulls out the shot and starts to talk to us looking at her pad with our info she calls our dog the wrong name well she has info on a different dog and was about to give our dog that shot well my daughter crying grabed zoey and we left. Petco should be embrassed with how things were ran as other customers also expressed their opinions. Well petco you have lost this customers and family and friends business. read more
