There are a few words that describe my experience last night with this location I went there looking for a protective item to stop my dog from chewing herself. We have been fighting this since the fires began in Canada. Possibly related to her allergies but we're not sure. With Bella and Deans help I started out with wrap cone that didn't work out. I ran back to the store for another cure and I decided on a muzzle to prevent my dog from self mutilating her back side and tail. Both Bella and Dean couldn't have been more patient and compassionate and willing to help. They went beyond and I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart. People doing great things at their job describes these two quality human beings and genuinely care about their jobs Thanks to you both. Hit or miss at this location regarding grooming. Sometimes my dog is smelling nice and bathed when I pick her up, sometimes not. Sometimes her nails are clipped, sometimes not. All in all, not too bad as far as appointment scheduling. read more

Kayla in grooming is always going above and beyond for my dog, Luna! She takes her time grooming her and it shows. You can tell that Kayla and the whole grooming team are all people who enjoy working with animals and have a passion for it. The good.. All the groomers are friendly and do a good job. The bad.. No one ever answers the phone when you try to book a grooming appointment. The openings online are completely different than what they actually have. If you want to try and book an appointment you have no choice but to drive there in person . As we were checking out my partner and I were taking about our dogs and their needs. Zia was our cashier. She asked about our dogs, we got into a conversation and she was so helpful and knowledgeable about different things such as allergies (one of our dogs has horrible skin allergies), she explained details about foods, grains, oils can use to help her, etc. She also mentioned Petco's events, and I'll be going on the website to see what's available in the coming months. I took my dog to an appointment for flea medicine. It was supposed to be valid for 1 year. After 11 months, my dog had fleas again. After the city reduced substitute teacher pay to below minimum wage, I was not able to afford to have electric services in my home any longer, let alone pay for pet meds, but I was offered an amazing deal from chewy.com. I ordered the meds that were originally prescribed and gave Chewy the vet info. Vetco rejected it. I called Vetco and they said my dog was due for an exam. I told them I can't afford an appointment, pointing out the original prescription is still valid for another month. I reordered from Chewy. Again it was denied, saying I'm not a patient. I called the office and requested to speak to a supervisor. They said one would call me. I asked if it would be today, she said in the next few days or so. I waited , no call. I called everyday for weeks and no one ever answered the phone at Vetco ever again. I left messages everyday. My dog has been suffering for 2 months now with fleas, and it pains me to see her itching because of a negligent and greedy vet office who doesn't care about her. read more

I'm kind of shocked at the amount of negative reviews listed here, most of which are 1 star based on dead fish, employees not greeting right away, and small-dog grooming-related issues. I don't hand out reviews regularly but I believe that Brooke and the grooming team are amazing at what they are doing. If ya'll can see the before and after pics of my dog, a Husky/Samoyed mix. I felt like I gave them a worn blanket and in return I received a bouncing cotton ball. It was way beyond my expectations and is warranted of this shout-out for a job well done. To all of these negative reviewers, ya'll should be ashamed of yourselves. Please practice more patience with ALL people, everywhere you go. We are in a pandemic and everyone is trying their best to normalize the situation. This store's staff is very warm and welcoming. Respect is equally received. My questions were answered the best way they can, and I have google at my finger tips. Also, dead fish is unavoidable just keep it moving. I see dead fish at every store. Small dogs are cute but hard to keep well-groomed, I'm looking at you, the owners, you have to meet the groomers half-way. I don't expect a 'Hi' immediately, or anywhere, from anyone who's a stranger, it is the same feeling as if a man cat-calls and tells me to smile for them. Petco, keep it up! read more

I'm giving two stars because the lady who checked us out and the old man who was cleaning the hamster cages were nice. However, it is sad to say that our hamster baby that we named biscuit died after two weeks of purchasing her. We thought we did something wrong at first but our friend's sister who also bought a hamster from one of their stores has died in three weeks as well. We have given our baby a huge space with lots of enrichments and different types of beddings and moss and she was such a happy baby. She would always come to us when she saw us, but when we got back home today she was in her burrow cold and stiff. When we took her to the vets we were told that she had complications and that most hamsters petco and petsmart sell are sick! We grew attached to our hamster we gave everything to her and treated her like family, why would they keep selling sick pets knowing their going to be someone's family. I'm just really ranting because we are all broken from our biscuit's passing, but I don't really know if I will ever be coming back here. It just left such a sour taste in our mouths, especially since it's not an isolated incident. read more

Went in for help finding ways to calm my particularly challenging cat and to buy a fish tank (great way to protect your plants from cats like mine!). Was helped by Paul, who was considerate of my cat's specific situation and we talked through a variety of products that could help, ranging in price points and ways to apply/use. When I was checking out I set down the fish tank and accidentally cut my hand on a particularly sharp edge of it. He got first aid supplies and went to get another tank that didn't have such a sharp edge. Super helpful and considerate!!! read more

Horrible situation with their door dash delivery dropping off merchandise for other customers, not mine . it-took 45 mins of my time to get a live person to report the error. The store wanted me to call the door dasher to correct the problem ?! then the 800 number transfered me to the actual customer for-us to sort out the problem! then next thing I know Im talking to the consumer ? PETCO is crazy delegating all the jobs and corrections to the consumer. read more

Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Groomers are extremely patient with first time customers/pets. They were great with our Bernedoodle puppy and recommended ways to help make her more comfortable for future grooming appointments. read more

The people who worked here used to care about the animals... at least enough to take care of them. I am disgusted at the conditions they keep these amphibians. Teaching your employees to mist each tank is a MUST! You have a pixie frog clinging to the last bit of water in its water bowl because he's gonna dry out, the dirt in his tank is completely dry, and only 1 decoration for the animal to interact with and it's a fake plant. Not to mention the humidity is at 0. This animal is stressed. He needs a hide and to be missed immediately. Start teaching your employees to do the only mandatory task on the list of things to do; keep the animals alive. Extremely disappointed with how this place is running into the ground, I used to like going here and now I'm afraid to come because i leave upset when I enter. read more

We've been going to them for years and it's an inconsistent process, sometimes it's good and sometimes it's ok and once and awhile it's bad. But today we had such terrible customer service from Gio, he seemed very uninterested in his job or even accommodating me for our dog's services as we were 15 minutes late as a result of having to go back home per their request to get the rabies medallion. I understand rules are rules, but attitudes are uncalled for. I guess in the end he did us a favor as the Dog Room is closer, more affordable (deshedder is including in bath price) , just 1.5 hours (no more 4 hour waits as they sit there in a cage) and much better reviewed for customer service. As a result, I gave them an extra star for their push to look elsewhere. read more

I occasionally make a stop at Petco when I need to but haven't visited in a while because I live closer to a local Pet supplies store. Beside the fact, today I stopped in with my 3 year old daughter to get our doggie some birthday goodies. The store itself was well kept, but not one worker in site. I understand we are currently in a pandemic but besides the cashier, I was unable to find one person to assist me. Fish tanks had dead fish floating in them which was awful. Cashier seemed like she was delighted to be working there(not). Not one word from her. I think I'll take my business somewhere else! read more

I placed an order for In-store pick up because I was in a rush. I get to the store, the check out line was super long. I asked a whole group of about 4 employees where I can pick up my order, they proceeded to tell me I need to get in the check out line. I need someone to explain to me what is the purpose of paying ahead if I still need to get in a super long line and wait for everyone else to pay ???? Make it make sense, because for that I could have just went shopping at Walmart or something, which now I know to do next time. read more

2 Stars for grooming. That's how many stars I'm posting as this is the primary reason for our visit to Petco. 3 Stars for dog accessories that I wouldn't have found if we didn't schedule here. I let my Shih Tzu's hair grow out to help keep her warm during the recent winter months. I bathe and brush her regularly but I'm lackadaisical. When I was finally ready to take my dog to her regular groomer in Schaumburg, an aquaintance in my boyfriend's neighborhood who has a Shih Tzu referred me to his groomer at Petco. Because I've seen her work done on his dog many times before, I thought I'd give her a try. While my doggy now looks more adorable, it may have been a mistake. I think her backside was shaved too closely. She may have suffered from razor burns; so, I put a dab of Vaseline to help with the irritation. The very next day, she seemed lethargic, glassy eyed and vomiting. I called her Vet in Hoffman Estates. Her Dr referred us to the VCA in Franklin Park. My once healthy Shih Tzu now had an elevated temperature and possible gastrointestinal problems. I was instructed to feed her Dr's Prescription Formula bland, wet food and 1/2 tab of Benedryl for 2 days. Both Veterinarians called to check on her progress the following day. A couple days later, I felt a lump on her throat. It could be nothing. She has appointment with her regular Vet on Sat to have a look. I'm wondering if it was an ingrown hair as I've discovered that it popped like a pimple this morning and has become a scab that I'm leaving alone for her Dr to see. Petco sells Paws here! Anyone who has read my review about the Corner Barkery knows what this is. I love it because I can come here for those now! Great selection of clothes and other accessories I've never seen at PetSmart or Pet Supply Plus. Sherpa bags that look more like a tote, pet slings and bicycle baskets. The layout of this place is kind of funky. I think it's circular. As long as the dog stuff is first and kept to the right, I won't get dizzy. With everything they have, including an abundance of food and treats sold, I'm shocked and disappointed they don't have her favorite treats here! Hopefully, they were just sold out. read more

I walked in a store with out mask, and security started screaming at me in the rudest way he could saying that I should go back and get a mask. I understand that stores policy is to have a masks while entering. However I missed a sign on a door while I was entering, but security didn't have to scream at me for that. I like Petco as a store,but costumer service in this location...I would just give 0. Employees have no idea where anything is.They always go to ask at the register...weird.And I've been to this store few times,it's not like 1 time coincidence. Than if you ask something about a product from internet they look like you just asked very hard math question..clueless. Every time I go in here I always bring my dogs just like some others. I have two dogs and sometimes I have questions. Almost everyone in the store is happy to help except one lady who works there. She seems to work a lot because she's always there and always rings me up at register. She's always in a bad mood. Never cheerful or excited. If the manager doesn't see this I think they might like her behavior. I am a manager in a restaurant and it is just completely unacceptable. My husband and myself really like the care and attention given to our Choclate Lab Max. Our Max really gets excited coming here. The staff knows him as we are regulars. His coat is always cleaned well, his nails done correctly they are dremeled. The blueberry scrub used on his muzzle is the extra touch. We trust bringing our dog here. read more

Just for the record, I don't own any pets but I visited this location yesterday with my Mom, we went to take my Parent's Dog to see Santa. Pets can get their picture taken with Santa for a $10 donation in which you get a frame for your picture...while they're taking the picture, you can most certainly snap more on your cell phone as I did. I don't know if these dog adoption people have anything to do with Petco, but they certainly reflect badly on this place. The women by the entrance with three dogs up for adoption were cold, and just plain rude...cute dogs, unfriendly ugly women. Adopting a dog is a wonderful thing...If I was looking to do so, these women would have me running for the nearest dog shelter, or the Anti Cruelty Society. In addition, there were these old ladies sitting at a table with two cocker spaniels with some donation bucket... Uh, no thanks! Give you money??? Hell to the NO! Not only did I not know why they were sitting there but how about a tip of advice... don't get a bunch of cranky old hags to ask for donations, how about some nice individuals who make you want to open your wallet and give. Tis the season for giving! But...not at this place. Later on yesterday we ran into Petsmart because they happen to be lower in prices, and it was the complete opposite of this cold place. read more

I previously brought my dog here for grooming, but this review is mainly regarding the vaccination service they offer a couple of times a month. Of course, it's really Luv My Pet who comes in to do the vaccinations, but PetCo is accomodating and helpful. The lines can get pretty long, reaching all the way to the front of the store, but their customer service rep informed me when I called for info to come an hour early, which I did. Althogh my dog (who is an 80 lb shepherd mix) was scared most of the time, she warmed up. The vet techs were very gentle and didn't freak her out. It would have been nuts if she went on a rampage minutes before her rabies vaccination. I got her the rabies vaccination as well as the bordetalla and the 5-pack of respiratory vaccinations, and it cost less than $60. read more
