Trooper is a long-haired mini dachshund with a beautiful (but very sheddy) curly coat, and I was a little nervous about how he'd respond to grooming since it was his first time. Jose, is very good with my dog. My dog is getting older, and it takes a while to get him out to the van but with Jose takes the time with him is very gentle with him and is very sweet to him. He also does a wonderful job grooming him and when Jose got here this last time, my dog was asleep, but woke up got right up. I was ready to go with Jose! She was incredibly professional beginning to end, and was even able to squeeze me in same day. The woman who took my payment over the phone was friendly and professional as well. I read through all of the reviews the good and the bad. I also work in the service industry, and in my professional opinion the negative reviewers sound like a bunch of sociopaths with entitlement issues. They really should be ashamed of themselves. I think their time would be spent wisely talking to a therapist rather than slandering this fantastic female business owner on Yelp. My dogs have been going to SpaBARK for a couple a years. One of my shih thuzs is extremely sensitive which is why we opted to use spa bark because their groomers were skillful and had patience and we were following a previous groomer. The grooming is ok but the real highlight is the convenience. But the owner Jennifer, well that's a whole other beast. The girls on the phone are rude as one of the other yelpers stayed. Her company recently over charged me. I was told that they did not issue receipts and my credit card served as my receipt. When I went on to speak with the owner she was extremely rude. I didn't receive any customer service and she told me that I could go somewhere as she was tired of the shenanigans with my pups and I. I get it. But it's her attitude that is so disgusting. Instead having a civil conversation, she was aggressive and made it clear she didn't need by business. SpaBARK is a rip off, and their owner is bitter and rude. You dog can get a nice hair cut but beware of charges and your dog being washed and being returned with hints of funk on them and still getting that whooping $150 bill. This place refuses to give receipts and gets upset when you request one. Jennifer please don't follow up with your owners response that has no accountability. Spare the yelpers of your lies and miserable attitude... geesh! Beware they are also meow Chicago, they have 4.5 stars but they will burn through that following as well, this entity of her business also had 5 stars at one time. But it would explain why she feels the need to tell customers to move along if they aren't happy. Update: as you can see there is absolutely no accountability in the "managers" response. I have to say that I had been using them for 7 years. They are a bit pricey but the groomer, Vicky is amazing to my dog & my cat too whenever he needs a bath. However, the last 2 or 3 years it has become difficult to schedule appointments with them. I feel almost like begging them to provide me a service. I wish the owners read this. The girls answering the phone & texts to schedule the appointments are rude. They are or were the same company as Meow Chicago so if you are registered under one company & not the other God Forbid you call the other. This place continues to go above and beyond to service my fur baby. My intention was to use the mobile service until my baby was 6 months and had received all of her shots. Updating for this week's experience as I wanted to have my cat groomed - oddly he loves grooming, falls asleep on the table, but HATES baths. They can't trim him without giving him a bath, so I'll just take him back to the groomer that does. They told me that according to their records, they did a trim once (without a bath), and a comb cut with a bath. Apparently there are no longer any 'no bath' options for me, and I don't want to subject him with an experience that upsets him so much. Biggest issue is actually connecting with these folks. The on line system is better than it was a couple years ago, but you go thru so many hoops to ask a question (like the bath one above). Emails, texts, voice mails..."gotta talk to someone else". I'm not one to typically leave Yelp reviews -- I generally like to be a positive, supportive person for small businesses! However, we had such a disappointing experience with SpaBark I felt it was important to share. The visit started with me having to hand off our dog through the van driver's side window, while the groomer was driving, without asking what we'd like done. It ended with us being charged nearly $120 for a wash and a "trim" - barely noticeable. I asked the groomer if she could come back and take more off, to which she said no. So I was charged $120 for basically a bath, attempted to follow up with customer service for some sort of discount based on my poor experience. To that, I was repeatedly sent rude text messages by the staff over the course of the night. To date, this is the worst I have ever been treated as a customer by a business. (Yes, I was bummed I paid $120 for a bath, but I was even more disheartened by being essentially bullied over text!) It pains me to say that, but I really want to avoid others from encountering the same experience I did. That said, I'd advise doing elsewhere for your grooming services! read more

Spa bark is awesome! It's a little expensive but worth it being that they come right to your door in the city, and your pet gets his or her own private grooming atmosphere! The groomer was Vicky, who I think now is with Meow Chicago she an amazing cat groomer , she did my Himalayan Dylan who yes matted and did not enjoy getting them out, nor did he care for the buzzer. She found a way to always give him a perfect little haircut, same with my Kitten Duke who was groomed 3 months ago I guess under Meow Chicago ( perfect) and this weekend under Meow Chicago not by Vicky which can happen but try and express your concern to the owner Jennifer!! Watch out she will flat out get in a text message war with you . She has no business sense , clearly some psychopathology and she will assign blame on you for your cat being in an unmanageable condition claim he's clipper aggressive , charge you full price or double call you for your billing info like everything is fine and dandy and not notify you of any issue hoping you " don't notice" Then she uses her staff as pawns to communicate her nastiness , when you can tell they agree with you because they keep advocating for you seeing if there is anything they can do because the pics r so bad . But more importantly it's a luxury service and she treats you like It's wrong to inquire . I would hope someone that cares about there cat would not allow her to intimate her. She hides behind the fact she has some positive reviews which she may, or maybe she has scared away people from writing them. Believe me I get no benefit out of bashing her service as she does yelling at everyone that writes a review. My dog was badly cut by one of the groomers. It was not pointed out to me that the dog had been injured. I noticed a short time after the same day. I emailed Spa Bark and someone called me almost immediately. She seemed genuinely concerned. She said the next grooming would be comped and any vet bills would be reimbursed. I kept her in the loop on his healing process. He did end up going to the vet. I submitted the bill and some wires were crossed internally between two employees and one thought the other had processed the payment. I had to follow up a few weeks later. I did receive a check for the vet bill. After further thought, we have decided not to use their services. I appreciate the effort of making good on a bad situation caused by one groomer. It is not worth possible future injury to my dog. read more

We called this groomer because we have two Shiba Inus and they need to be groomed regularly, especially as one of them is a long-haired variety. Since we moved to the South Loop and don't own a car, walking them to the Petsmart isn't really a viable option. When the van arrived, we brought our dogs downstairs from our apartment and carefully led them inside where the groomer hooked their leashes up to the wheel attached to the grooming bed. We said our goodbyes and returned upstairs. We got a call an hour later that our dogs were ready and asked us to pay. We paid our fee and gave a $20 tip, then went downstairs to get our dogs. The groomer opened the door and at first impression everything was fine. Both dogs looked clean, silky, and smelled great. That's when she explained she had some trouble with our dogs. Godiva, our female, was fine but Bailey, our male, grew agitated when she turned on the blow dryer to dry them. They're used to cage drying at Petsmart and Bailey has always hated loud fan noises. Rather than stop at that point, call her dispatcher, and contact us, she chose to continue until she injured Bailey. His dew claw was ripped, pushed completely horizontal, and the inner right side of his paw was covered in blood. She tried to pass it off as a minor injury that wasn't important and just gave us an apology. It's been a nightmore having to clip his claw off, soak his paw in epsom salt, and bandage it. He's in a lot of pain and it's their fault. I don't ever recommend them to anyone and we will never use them again. She should and could have stopped before she injured our dog. EDIT: We were finally able to contact them and reach an agreement regarding compensation for Bailey's injury and the issue has been resolved. read more

We found spa bark on google. We thought it was a previous company we used, 1yr ago for our 17yr old cat. This time, we had our 13yr old cat groomed. So they arrive... "Yes, bring your cat down", they stated. MISCOMMUNCATION. They did not inform us over the phone that the cat ONLY have to be groomed in their truck. They also did not inform us that we could not stay with our cat, during this grooming process. Over the phone, we were quoted $65. In person, we were quoted $85. We ask why the price jump. They stated, "$20 is for our travel fee". Again, MISCOMMUNICATION. They did not inform us of some 'travel-fee'. They also stated that the total, $85, also included the tip, so we were happy that we didn't have to dish out more $$ on a tip. So.. our cat... Our cat was a little shaken up, after his haircut. he was distant with us the entire day. I guess that is normal. he had a big knot in his hair, and they shaved it off, which was expected of them to do. So now, our cat has a big bald spot on his side. Since they did an ok job, and there was a lot of miscommunication,behalf of this company, we will NOT use Spa Bark again. read more

I will start by saying I have no idea what their normal rates are, my nephew's school had what I am guessing was a fundraiser. SpaBark was there doing grooming all day. Good for the school and definitely good for them because these people know what they are doing and I am going to pay whatever it takes to have them trim Rupert's nails. The most important thing for me was that Jennifer knows how to handle a dog. She did the job in under ten minutes, There was no chipping, cracking, or jagged edges and Rupert wasn't scarred for life. Unlike the Petco experience where it took half an hour, you could see the groomer's hesitation and nervousness and his nails were chipping off for months. I pretty much never write reviews for yelp, ever. But after reading the ones here, I def felt compelled to write a great review. First all of, cat grooming is not cheap. My last place was between $85 - $125 WITHOUT bath and blow dry. These guys were $85 with a bath and blow dry. They did a really amazing with my senior deaf persian cat, and were done in like 45 minutes. That's incredibly speedy. (Usually the other ones take at least three hours). I inspected him, and he had no cuts, or nicks to his skin, and he smelled great. I would say that's pretty phenomenal. The extra travel fee, (around $30-ish) was worth the cost. I didn't have to get him into a cab, try to find a cab both ways, and go all the way across town. They came to me, right outside my front door. Worth. Every. Penny. read more
