We love Shorty Styles! We've been looking for a quality pet groomer for a while. We've had some bad experiences with places like PetSmart and Petco, so since then we've actually been grooming them at home. The hardest part of grooming is the nail cutting. Victor is so great and does it quickly for our two pups, who are scaredy cats. Nail cutting is $10 each dog. Since our family found out we go here, the family dog now gets her pampering and spa treatments here. She gets a bath, haircut, ear cleaning, and nail cut. This usually is a 2 hour process. Great quality and reasonably priced services! It's a small shop, and I would advise calling ahead of time to make an appointment. There's plenty of street parking. The front is metered parking but I'm sure you can find free parking around the corner. There's a coffee, empanada, and Bistro 6050 nearby so there's a few local spots to check our whole you're waiting. read more

I like that they provide ultra competitive rates with unparalleled service. It goes without saying that my dog gets very uneasy around people and even more so when they don't know what they are doing. Victor put us both to ease and provided a sense of calming and I knew we were in good hands. It is a very conveniently located shop with plentiful parking. The shop itself is very clean. We are very happy with the grooming provided and he was very patient with me and the demands on how i wanted my dog to look. I called this morning to learn that nail trims are walk-in appointments for $10. This is an absolutely helpful policy for young dog moms who are always on the go. Upon meeting Victor, the business was very clean and organized. There's a calmness about the space that is very welcoming and helps dogs feel at ease. Victor was so kind to me and Oscar--my Shih Tzu miniature Schnauzer mix. He took fantastic care of my dog, and my dog liked him. I definitely will return to have Oscar's nails trimmed here, and I will bring my yorkiepoo next time for a full bath and furcut. We have found our groomer! My dog used to be totally fine with getting her nails trimmed until she was traumatized by a groomer who should have been...in another profession. Perhaps the warden of a jail? Either way, Lucy has been terrified for over a year whenever anyone even touched her paws. My boyfriend brought her to Shorty Styles today and not only was Victor gentle and kind with her, but she actually stayed still and allowed him to take care of her trim with very little resistance. She used to have to be held by 2 people while a third trimmed her nails but not anymore. I am ecstatic to have found Victor! read more

It is unfortunate that I have to write this review. I did my homework when looking for a groomer and this business had great reviews. I booked an appointment and in the additional info. area, I added that my pomchi was a rescue and had some issues. I walked in to drop my dog off and brought her vaccination information that was not even looked at, I asked about getting a teddy bear type cut and was told that she didn't have the correct fur for it but when I picked up my rescue that is the type of cut she had. I was told that she would be ready by 3pm and I would get a text if she was ready earlier because there were 2 dogs ahead of mine. When I left the shop and was on the road, I received a text that it would be 4pm rather than 3pm, I get it people get busy. I received a text with a pic of my dog, she looked great. She looked like the pics that I saw when I did my research. I arrived at the shop and my dog was fluffed up, she had a cute bow and scarf on, she looked great. The next day when the fluff settled, it was then that I noticed how my dog's cut really looked. The thought that went through my mind was that he must have been really busy or the teenager that was there (I believe she was a relative)when I picked my dog up ran the clippers over my dog. It was choppy, uneven and looked as if the clippers were just run over her back and sides and stomach was half shaved, I can't believe that I left a 20% tip. I will not bring my dog back and will continue to research groomers and look for one that pays attention to detail. I am glad that my dog does not have any allergies, they would have been overlooked due to the groomer not reading the additional information added when booking. Victor has been one of the most caring groomers I have met. I have been going to him over a year and half. My dog is a shaky little guy. Whenever he sees Victor however he jumps from my arms to get to him and is super excited. This is a relief to me as a fur mom. I wouldn't trust anyone else with him. Such a great groomer that is close to home and the employees are very kind towards their clients. My poodle has very sensitive skin and is typically quite fussy during nail clipping and hair cuts, but the groomers get it right each time. I'm very happy that a new groomer has opened up in the Portage Park area after having issues with other groomers in the area. Allowed me to be nearby and check on him to calm him down but they were extremely kind and patient with my 75 lbs fur ball as well. We had a great experience at Shorty Styles! Our previous groomer was great, but they were overcrowded with kennels in the back room and made our dog Kodah pretty anxious- as soon as we stepped outside he would bark and bark and bark, as if we was telling us off for having him groomed- lol. I though that was just part of the deal with a sensitive dog, but that was not our experience with Shorty Styles. When we picked up Kodah, he was relaxed and happy and had the best cut of his life!
