Though I prefer to support the local stores, I needed a product that I could not find in the pet stores in my neighborhood (refill size of Nature's Miracle). The store had it (on sale!). Staff was friendly and helpful. They also offer vaccines, and my dog (Edward von Chocula) needed a booster for bordetella in order to be boarded overnight. As his regular vet is out if town, any vet I called wanted to do a full workup before giving him a shot. The folks at Vetco were willing to see him. Setting up the appointment was easy using their web portal. Doctors were nice and I was in and out in a flash. read more

I tried them twice because they're very close to me. They have a tendency to add in extra fees for services that you didn't ask for. The 2nd time I visited, I made it very clear about exactly what I wanted. When I returned to pick up my dog, I was charged almost twice as much. There are many groomers on the upper west side. Petco 92nd street location was a huge disappointment and waste of time. Stopped in hoping to grab a few basic pet t shirts for a small dog, but the shelves told a different story. Shortages everywhere, food, toys, even the simple essentials were either picked over or missing entirely. Choices of doggie t-shirts were limited to large dogs, female styles, and doggie sweatshirts, all of the small sizes were gone. Nothing weather appropriate. Staff was polite enough, but no one seemed to know when or if items would be restocked. For such a big-name pet store in a busy Manhattan neighborhood, I expected a fuller selection and better inventory management. Ended up leaving with nothing, waste of time, gas and parking. A bit frustrating when you're trying to shop local instead of ordering online. However this is making me reconsider. Im so disappointed in this location. They had all these employees in the store but nobody wanted to take the time to help me. Im happy that they do provide adoption service every Saturday, but they only seem to be interested to help those people. I literally walked around this store looking for a carrier for my kitten and they just pointed to go downstairs for this or upstairs for that. The time I finally found a carrier to purchased the people who were adopting pets took the last one. What a waste of time. Never again I will stick with my own location. NO thumbs up at all. Our dog, a 13-pound Schnauzer mix, was scheduled at Petco/Vetco to get a rabies shot, in advance of a scheduled spay procedure later in the week at the local Humane Society. When we spoke with Petco/Vetco by phone, we explained that our dog was extremely reactive and would not cooperate without being muzzled. We asked if we should bring a muzzle. They assured us that, no problem, they are used to difficult dogs and would have a muzzle for her. We sedated the dog in advance, which brought her anxiety level down somewhat, and took her to Petco/Vetco for the shot. The three technicians almost immediately threw up their hands and said they could not risk getting bitten by a dog. We explained that we had brought this very point up on the phone and been assured that the staff would be able to handle the situation. "Oh, yeah", he said, "they always say that." Did they have a muzzle? Yes, but we would have to put it on her -- but then they didn't really have one large enough, so even that was out. Did they have gloves? No. The worst part was the arrogant and dismissive attitudes of the technicians -- with the "leader" of the group too self-important to even make eye contact, and telling us when our next appointment would be and for what, without even asking if we wanted to make another appointment with them. And then not knowing how to restrain a small dog! Needless to say, we left without the shot and got a refund. After the planning and coordination it took to even get the dog there, this experience was beyond infuriating. Now we're back at square one with the clock ticking on a spay procedure that she can't have without a rabies shot. I've done a fair amount of purchasing at this Petco over the years. I am a vital care premier member and love my 86th street location. This location is very unprofessionAl, recently my mother who is disabled and has one leg went to get her toy poodle groomed... They would not groom the dog and told her go to the aspca that it would be more cost effective. the general manager was not on site to accept my concern. I will not be returning here as they discriminate against my disabled mother and assumed she would not have the means to pay. I will be following up with cooperat. This store may be short staffed but those who are there have always been knowledgeable about their products and courteous. I was a new rescue cat several years ago and they really helped me out with choosing everything from the food to litter box. More recently I look after my daughter's Yorkie when she's working on a long term work project or going on vacation. Again, they have helped me choose the correct toys and treats, as well as the best food choice for her age and breed. (As her grandma, I love to spoil her and get her the best of everything) I recommend avoiding the store during rush hours if you need extra help from the staff, or call before you go and get recommendations before heading out. read more

I paid for overnight shipping and 5 days later the order had still not shipped. Cancelled the order and was never refunded. This was an expensive order. I have never seen so many dead fish in a pet store before. Each fish tank had between 3 and 6 dead fish in it. I bought 6 guppies for a 10 gallon tank. Plenty of space. They had clean water, a heater, and food. But 4 of the 6 died within two days. Shouldn't be surprised when they came from a tank of so many dead fish. None of the employees assisted me when I rang the bell at the store. Another employee walked right past me, ignoring me, and took the elevator. I rang the bell again. I decided to get the plants myself. I took them to the front. I waited patiently at the front while another customer was helped for a very long time, with many cans of food. The first associate asked me who got these plants for you?, and I replied I got them myself. The employee didn't mention anything about policy at that point. The employee then asked Brianna who works in the Aquatics department, for the item sku. She opened the sku and I was charged for the item. Brianna then stated in a aggressive hostile tone, " don't do that again". She also stated, " I clean those tanks, and I don't want YOUR hands in MY tanks. Instead of making and accusatory statement that could be taken offensively, Brianna should have stated, for example , " I'm sorry you had to wait. We like to make sure store policy is followed , so in case anything happens, you don't get blamed". No. Brianna didn't say any of the professionalism and two other employees heard her make the disrespectful and offensive statement. Today I went into this store and it was the worst experience ever.The tanks to the fish were all off so me and my boyfriend couldn't see the fish.The lady aka security said the person for aquatic was on break to wait 10-15 mins,so we did no problem.when the manager finally arrived the security said we had been waiting a while,his response with an attitude no one told me anything about that.when he came to help he already had an attitude for no reason.we asked him to turn on the fish tanks and most of the fish were dead.We don't work there so we of course are asking questions,his response again oh you asking a lot of questions that I don't know because this is not my department.If you a manager you supposed to know everything in your store DUH. Wow just wow. Had a 10:15 grooming appointment for a 7 month old puppy. After 4 hrs started calling...NO answer. Grooming appointment booked at W 92nd and Broadway. I brought my 10 month old Cockapoo puppy for the first grooming session. The guy groomer Andres Ochoa took her at 11 am. I asked what would it take him to trip her and he said 3 to 4 hours. I left my dog with him and left. Got a call an hour later at noon and he said she had a bath but got freaked out on hair dryer and this is why she needs to sit there in get dry and its gonna take her another hour or two and another 3 hours from when shes dry. I did not understand why it would take a 10 month old puppy that much to dry out but i said ok ill come back in about 3 hours to pick her up. He did not say anything in return neither he confirmed it. This is when i realized something was not right and it is not ok to keep a dog in a small storage cage for that long when her appointment was at 11 am. At 3 pm ( exactly 4 hours after i left my dog with him ) i came over to pick her up and i saw him grooming some other dog and not mine. I asked him and the girl at the grooming reception where was my dog and if shes ready or not. Groomer was aggravated by my question, turn toward me and said my dog is still in a closed cage waiting to get dry. I said that this is inappropriate and he cant keep her locked for 4 hours while she surely went dry by noon and he went more apathetic and said he never knows how much it would take him and now he needs to finish the other dog he took and i have to wait another hour and than count 3 hours from then which would had come to 5 h total to my dog being in closed case in storeroom with other upset animals and than another two if im lucky for the haircut. I said to him i can not allow my 10 month old puppy to sit whole day in case in isolated area with no water waiting for him to find time for her and he freaked out and said ok, take her, i cant do this appointment anymore, went to storage and brought her back, sat her on table, turned around and left. In other words my dog sat there for 4 hours and he refused to start any following work on her. Nothing like lets find a way to solve this or I'm sorry it took that long or let me take her now and finish the other dog later, none of this happened except of a direct exposure to complete indifference, disregard and a surreal ignorance toward a customer and its pet. I filed a complain to several organizations and i just wanted more people to know of this incident and his name. The guys name is Andrea Ochoa, general manager was at vacation and there was no-one interested in listening to me. I know there are some global supply chain issues right now, which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1, but if you have any pet other than a cat or dog, they have almost no food/supplies for that type of animal in stock. I asked an employee if I was just there on an off day, and they shared this was typical now. Additionally, some of the live animals they have for sale (at least the kinds I have owned before and understand the care of) don't have nearly enough room. It's inhumane. read more

Ok...I like to update reviews with fairness in mind and this is such an update. I cautiously returned to this location on Friday, April 16, 2022. I ordered bird food on the app to pick up in store. I was in the area an hour or so later and decided to pop in to see if the order was ready. The salesperson (a young man with an award winning Afro), told me the order wasn't ready and it could take up to 5 hours!!! In all fairness, I was supposed to wait for an email telling me the item was ready. So I asked the young man if I could just pick it up since I was already in store. The young man put in the effort to at least ask someone about it and 3 minutes later Michael comes out with the item! Please understand, I don't think great customer service is always getting your way. Here what was great is that the young man didn't flat out tell me no or that "we can't do that". He made an effort and I would have been fine coming back 5 hours later and/or awaiting the confirmation email that the item was ready. read more

The place looks like it's always under remodel or closing but the staff is so kind. I have two dogs that I have the most unhealthiest relationship with. I'm a recovering codependent but my dogs are very healthy because of it. I paid for an extensive allergy test and abide by it religiously. Petco is the only place that carries specific products and brands that my dogs not only will eat and that love, but the closest Petco near my home is this one and sometimes I get there at 8:59 and they will let me in and it means the world to me. read more

We can only speak to the grooming department but we were looking for a new groomer near where we live and we went online to get information about this branch of Petco. We decided on a wash and comb to try it out and priced it on the website for a medium dog even though ours bordered small by weight. When we were done, they charged $60 rather than the $48 clearly listed on the website when you input your information. We won't return to an establishment that doesn't honor what they advertise. It was also ridiculous to try and book an appointment because the website wouldn't allow us to do it and they didn't return our call. We had to walk in to schedule. There are too many options to return. I'd like to note the actual bath and brush out were quite good and no complaints there. I've been taking my dog to the Vetco vaccination clinic here for a few years, and it is fantastic -- a real money saver compared with typical vet checkup fees to get shots at a private vet. The online booking system they've introduced during COVID is amazing -- it's brought typical wait times down from over an hour, to only 15 minutes! I really hope they keep it up as we permanently return to normal times! Back in the day, you'd have to line up outside around 8am on Saturdays before the store opened to get a spot at the Vetco clinic. The most annoying part of this was that nosy passerbys would stop every 5 minutes to ask what we were waiting in line for (they would always be so disappointed when I groggily answered "pet vaccinations" instead of something crazy like "dog sneakers" or "dog cronuts"). The most delightful part of this was the range of people you'd get to know in line at 8am in the morning. I still remember one woman who was a new cop, her first week on the job, and shared some crazy stories. The Petco employees were also really great - they handed out water bottles, and let us wait in the aisles of the store when it was freezing outside. Now, the whole system's entered the 21st century, though, and it's just a quick/easy trip to save money and get your dogs vaxed up! read more

I am taking my time to write this review because of my horrible experience with training at this Petco. My dog trainer was Crystal. I absolutely hated the experience and every week just got worse. I did the small group class for 6 weeks and was partnered with another owner and her dog; which were nice. However, Crystal could care less about my dog and barely dedicated time to me and my dog during our session. The first reason, I consider her to be very unprofessional. On one day I believe the second day of session she straight up told me that my dog was "off" in front of the other dog owner and shoppers surrounding us. Excuse me? What kind of professional dog trainer are you? Very offended. Secondly, on the 4th week she realized my dog was a poodle, because I corrected her she thought it was another breed. Again, what kind of professional dog trainer are you by first judging my dog saying he's "off" and not knowing what breed is coming into your training class. Along with that, she would always have these comments like "we're going to go slow with him", and to be honest my dog is very smart. Every week he was able to learn a new trick easily at home. The only thing was that as a poodle some of his traits (that if Crystal was really a "professional" will know that) he is a shy breed when it comes to new people and needs time to get comfortable in the environment that he is in. Not every dog is the same, and mines has to get comfortable first in the new environment he is in before his shyness fades away with strangers. The other dog in the class was not shy (completely different breed) and was always jumping on her happy etc. Cool. In addition to that, Crystal would show favoritism. Even on the last day of class out of the hour of training that we had she only spent 10 minutes with me probably even less to be completely honest and the rest of the time she dedicated the other dog and the owner. I could hear them yelling cheering the other dog at the other side of the store while I was left alone for the rest of the time. I'm telling you very unsatisfied and unhappy with the training service I received from Crystal. For me to feel like this, if I would've known I would have definitely saved my $149 and just watched YouTube videos because it would've given me the same results of being left alone and spending more time helping to train the other dog. To add to all of that, on the last day she gave a bag of treats to the other owner and her dog and not to me. How nice. Again, favoritism much? Crystal disregarded my dog many times; lack of care and offended me various times and I honestly let it go because I refuse to argue with people who lack knowledge. A LOT of people have asked me about the training and honestly not recommending this Petco AT ALL as long as she is the trainer, I will refer them elsewhere. I am sure there are good trainers elsewhere and in other Petco's that will have actual professional trainers and would not make you feel the way I felt. Overall, DO NOT waste your money with Crystal's training there are a lot of better, respectful, caring, knowledgeable, and professional dog trainers out there. read more

With all the dogs on the UWS, my dog petting compulsion has been getting a serious workout. Having spotted one rather cute dog sitting on a bench on the median on Broadway, an idea got in my head. Can I buy just one dog biscuit from Petco? The answer is no. But better still, the cashier at Petco let me take one biscuit for free! How sweet was that? This may set a dangerous precedent for Petco. After a pleasant Saturday my friends and I decided to get some dog food to bring with us to a friend's apartment. We were at the 2475 Broadway Petco and we were happy as we waited in line several feet behind the person being serviced in front of us. The manager got very rude with us. He kept ordering us around to stand further back for some reason. He was condescending and made us feel quite uncomfortable. I asked him what his problem was. He acted like a man with a chip on his shoulder. As a business I'd hope you'd appreciate knowing this. Needless to say, I don't plan on going back to that Petco location if I can avoid it. read more

My spouse and I walked in the store looking for bird supplies. When we got to the bird supplies section there were hardly any supplies as always. We asked a staff member to assist us, and he seemed annoyed by the fact that we were asking for things they were supposed to have but didn't. Then we told him that we wanted to price-match our purchases with the online prices and he rudely said we needed to do it then show him the prices. When we got to the cash register, we had to show everything online to the cashier to price match everything all over again. The cashier was rude and arrogant, I thanked her for all her help, and she rudely walked off without even saying a word. Booked a training session online for Sunday March 6th, 2022. This would've been my first training session at Petco. I prepaid for the intro session and arrived 15 minute prior to my appointment start time to square away any paperwork that may be required. As they do have a checklist of things the request. When I walked in I was greeted with signs informing guests of the store undergoing renovations. The grooming and vet staff I met upstairs were friendly, and more helpful than the individuals on the first floor. They were however the ONLY positive part of my experience.  They reached out to their coworker who failed to arrive to the appointment, and as of writing never contacted the managers. When I asked to speak to the manager for an update he sent out someone who greeted me with a "oh its you", not "hello", not "how can I help you", not a "sorry for having to wait over an hour" and still not getting any semblance of respect for my time from management. I had not said a single word to this individual prior to this. Groomers seemed nice enough. The rot starts at the top though and as a manager if you can waste a customer's time, and not feel any responsibility to speak to them you clearly do not need to be in this position.  #DoBetter read more

It is always a pleasure to purchase whatever my betta fish can use or to enhance the beauty of the glass homes I make for each of the two betta I have. Grooming Dept has no idea what they are doing, how to work their own computer system, and no concept of time.

One doesn't come to PetCo for the customer service - you go for the the vast selection and the bright, clean store. But - even by PetCo standards this store is a fail. Grimy, poorly stocked and staffed by the unhappy. Walking through this space makes you feel dirty. The workers seem to have been trained to NOT SEE YOU. They literally look away if try to get their attention. Staff seem really put out when they have to deal with customers. Then my last visit to this location was to use the vet services -- and wow, that was a lesson in true cynicism. First the staff that check you in are a group of three who literally crowd around one computer. Two stare blankly at a third who types with one finger. The vet looked hung over and didn't even speak, she just loaded up a syringe and was about to jab my dog. I had to stop her and ask what was in the syringe. Avoid this place. read more

We have received very poor service from the veterinarian practice at Petco. We took our puppy, Oliver, to receive the third of DHPP shots at a Petco location but were told that he had to wait for at least three weeks to pass. However, when that time passed, three weeks and three days, we and took him to back to Petco; this time we were told that he we had waited too long and that he had to get the second shot again and charged us $50 (we had to purchase the same second DHPP twice). This has cost us time and money and delayed our puppy taking training classes because we have had to wait and wait and wait for his shots. We strongly advise against using the veterinarian service of Petco. read more

This place should get the award for the worst PetCo in the country. The store is slim pickings for anything that should be common and well stocked(ie. Pill pockets, brushes, collars, leashes, food). Even with the limited stock, I've seen better organized homeless camps. Now on to the condition of the live animals - the fish in the tanks look like they haven't been cared for at all, the birds looked miserable in a dirty enclosure. As for the grooming services, Andres did a great job with my dog on the first appointment, however its been impossible to book an appointment or even speak to someone to attempt to get an appointment. I was conned into getting a vital care subscription at check out, with 2 dogs this wouldve been great for me, but alas- this store makes it impossible to actually use the benefits. This location is so bad I called petco customer relations, even they had a similar experience to me in even trying to contact the store and apologized profusely for the hell this store had put me through after experiencing it first hand. To the DM reading this- please just shut down this store at this point. Yall shut down the good store on Columbus and kept this dump of a place open for who knows what reason. read more

The lack of inventory at the 92nd street location is worst than a store going out off business. Since the new management this location is not stocking up on pet supplies. Not to mention, some of your items are overpriced ridiculously. Another concern I have happens to be the condition the exotic birds are in. I happened to be at this particular Petco location twice this week and the water and food bowls is dirty and murky. Does the staff even care to change and provide the cleanliness these birds need? The space which these birds are confined in is not clean as well. For a company that cares about animals Petco is not doing their part. The store is a mess, not enough inventory to choose from for cats and especially for birds. The bird supply section on the first floor seems as the inventory has not been ordered in months. For a company that claims to care about animals this Petco is losing my confidence. I have always loved Petco due to their Petco Foundation and what they do for charities. However, a recent change in management at the 92/broadway location has left the neighborhood adoption groups that RELY on this Petco in turmoil. I frequently pass this location and always look forward to Saturdays and Sundays where I can take pictures of cute cats up for adoption. However over the past month the rescue groups have all started to express their frustration to me and I need to speak up on their behalf. Adoption events have been cancelled and I have personally witnessed Manager Amanda berating the groups with logic that makes no sense. These are people who volunteer their Saturdays to help homeless animals find love, and to watch them be told by the manager (who is getting a paycheck) that they are unwelcome was so hard. Petco MUST remember that adoption groups are an important part of the neighborhood- especially the groups that have been here longer than this new management. I am not sure how to find a solution- but i care about these neighborhood rescue groups and I would hope that Petco does too. read more

No, the staff decided to make up their own hours of operation and close 2 hours earlier. Either update your business or get your team in line. Never again at this location. I used to come here to get my fur baby groomed until my Groomer Josh moved to California. Now the groomer that is there , andres is very rude . I made a complaint & still no one from petco has contacted me after I complained. I showed up for my appointment, ( i was waiting in the lobby for 20 minutes) no one came to front desk & when he did , he told me he couldn't take my dog . I made an appointment a month ago . It was very unprofessional not to call to inform me they was under staffed so I wouldn't show up because I dont live nearby . He kept on arguing about that its not unprofessional.
