After a horrible grooming experience at a so called "master groomer," I decided to give Petco a try. My five month old Havanese puppy was traumatized from that first grooming experience and I let her groomer Kayla know what had previously expired. She was absolutely wonderful. She sat with my puppy for at least ten minutes prior to starting her grooming and got to know her. My little dog was so happy and relaxed while getting groomed, that she was actually yawning and trying to lick Kayla's face. Aside from her gentle touch, my dog's grooming was sheer perfection. Every time I take her to the dog park, other pet owners ask me where I get my dog groomed. Kayla has a customer for life. She is the best! read more

I took my 3 pound Maltipoo to the grooming salon for a shampoo and brushing because my wonderful groomer (Bellas) couldn't get her in on such short notice. She had a small knot on her tail and they asked me what i wanted them to do with it. I told them it was OK to cut it out. When I returned for my dog her tail was shaved completely (looked like a rat tail) and they had flea dipped her without asking my permission. Add insult to injury they charged me $50. My groomer charges me $35 for FULL service, cut, hygiene and all. Ridiculous. read more

Please think twice before taking your dog for grooming. I wish I had read the reviews before I took my two bichons in yesterday at 4:00. No other dogs were in for grooming at that time. I have gone to Petco for the last 5 years and had a wonderful groomer name Colleen. Prior to that, Kim. Unfortunately, I learned that Colleen was no longer there. Both were excellent, competent, professional and trustworthy. After not hearing from Petco, by 7:20 I called and learned that one dog was not finished. I was told he was "stressed from the dryer". My dog is 12 years old and I have never witnessed this or heard of it. The more I questioned the groomer, the more uneasy I felt about her answers and the inconsistency. The dogs had been there for nearly 4 hours. They were supposed to be the only dogs. That is why I agreed to bring them. at 4:00. Because they were closing soon, coupled with my uneasiness, I said I was going to pick them up right away. When I arrived, there were only my dogs and two groomers. Max was wet, straggly looking, obviously not brushed. He looked like a homeless, neglected refugee. But it was Bella who was the real horror story. This sweet little Bichon had her whole back hind quarter, legs and tail completely shaved down to the nude skin. One quarter of her back is bare. It is as if someone started to completely shave her and had second thoughts and stopped. I was physically sick when I realized what they had done. Both dogs seem traumatized. So whatever previous reviews said about good service, please disregard. That is no longer the case. In fact, in my opinion Petco's grooming should be closed down for everyone's sake. read more

I purchase our dogs supplies at this Petco location regularly, and today Tori assisted me. She offered me such amazing customer serivce I was motivated to leave a review! She first assisted when she saw me searching through the various dog beds they have for sale. She actually stopped and helped without me even asking for assistance! All of my questions were promptly answered including one in which she checked the computer system for confirmation. Next, I ventured toward their large offerings of dog food (it's an entire wall). Again, without prompting, she loaded multiple heavy bags onto the cart, navigated the cart towards the register (with 4 dog beds and 4 large sacks of food it was challenging), checked on special pricing for the dog beds, processed my order quickly, and loaded everything into the trunk of my car all while being very positive and cheery throughout the entire exchange! Oscar loves running to the store for food and when we need to get a gift for the other doggies in our lives. Recently came for a nail trim. They fit me in with no appointment and were willing to call my vet to get verbal confirmation that he is up to date on his shorts (note if it's your first time here bring doggie records)! Costs more for the nails to be ground, but they did a good job. He was done while I shopped and we left after about 20 minutes. Great service! read more

Petco's grooming in Napa should be shut down. My mother's adorable little dog was scalped. Why shave a dogs tail? Ridiculous. If they cannot hire competent, skilled groomers, then they should suspend this service. I made an appointment at the Napa Petco to have my dog groomed. She is a female Chihuahua mix about seven years old. After we rescued her, we found out that she had been abused. This includes tracheal damage. I have done a good deal of training to change this dog's life around. I have come to this Petco many times before and never had an issue with having my dog groomed here, or at any other Petco. We have been having my dog groomed at Petco since we received her from the rescue organization: 3 1/2 years, with good results and excellent customer service. Today is the last day I will come here to Napa Petco. I was refused a grooming service for my dog because she has tracheal damage. I have told all Petco's about this damage in the past, why is it a problem today? They insist that it is Petco policy to put a leash around the dog's neck in receiving the dog, in the wash basin, and on the grooming table. A slip ring collar/leash combo is what they use at Petco for dog intake and exit, a more rigid leash/ collar set up is used in the wash basin and on the grooming table. At another Petco they made a makeshift harness, like the dog trainers do, at intake and on exit, to make sure there was no pressure put upon Mocha's neck. I asked for this here in Napa and then was turned away from the store. The other technique I have seen the groomers use at Petco is to put the leash around my dogs neck and then they immediately pick her up so they don't put pressure on her neck. Today however, I was told they cannot take the risk that Mocha would put pressure against her own neck. I have never been turned away from a Petco before, again, in the 3 1/2 years I have had Mocha groomed at the Napa, Petaluma and Novato Petco's. I have always been told by all groomers, at all Petco's, that my dog is a very sweet and easy dog to groom. As it is, one is not really supposed to use a collar around a small breed dogs neck, because of the potential for tracheal damage. This is why I exclusively use a redirection harness on my Chihuahua to encourage loose leash walking. This is what the AKC (American Kennel Club) says about placing a collar around a small dog's neck: Harness (when to use instead of a collar leash or collar/leash combo): It's beneficial for short-nosed dogs, such as Pugs or Boston Terriers, SMALL BREEDS, and dogs prone to tracheal collapse (when the dog's trachea becomes damaged, restricting the airway and sometimes requiring surgery). From the website Pethelpful: Note: if you own a small breed dog you are better off using a harness since small dogs are prone to tracheal collapse. I went to the Napa Petco to get fish for our tank that we recently started back up. Keep in mind that we know a lot about fish and have had them before! When we asked the employee working, he told us he could only sell us 2 fish based on the size of our tank (20 gallon). We told him that we have had fish before and other employees had told us otherwise and he absolutely refused and was completely rude, closing all the tanks and walking away from us. He insisted that he was the "fish manager" yet he seemed to have no knowledge of the subject and appeared to be a teenager. We proceeded to the Vacaville Petco where we were met with a completely different experience. We explained what happened in Napa and they actually laughed, saying the man had no idea what he was talking about! If you are planning on getting fish, steer clear from this place, especially this employee! read more

I bought a dog harness a couple of months ago. I bought it before it was fully adjusted on my dog. I struggled with that dam thing and could never figure it out. I took it back to ask the staff to help me with it. Not only did they help me, they switched it out with another harness that fit and the help adjusted it just right. I did not expect them to return it for another one. They were all very sweet and great with my dog. ( who gets a little spooked easily) I never expected it, but petco, you are great! ( they also take donations for the local animal rescue organization. ) Awesome! read more

I cannot say for sure that Petco Napa killed my dog, but I can say with 100% confidence that he walked in there healthy for a bath and I never saw him alive again. He was dead within an hour. We purchased our two Jack Russell dogs, Skip and Lucy, in December of 2001. They were from the same litter. They grew up side-by-side with us, never being apart except for when they both were fixed and when they went to get checkups and such. Aside from Lucy being blind and deaf, both dogs were very active and healthy. They walked at least three times a week at Shurtleff Park. They played and ran like dogs half their age. Skip had a cancerous lump in his hip in October 2014, but had surgery and a perfect recovery. We left Skip and Lucy at Petco, Napa at approx. 4:00 PM on Wednesday the 30th of December. Both Skip and Lucy were going to Petco to get "the works" (wash, nails, brushing, etc). While they were there, my wife and I left to run some errands. At approx. 4:55, we got a call from the manager at the store telling us to there was an emergency and we needed to rush to Silverado Veterinary Hospital. He would not tell us anything more over the phone. It took us about 10 minutes to get to the hospital. When we arrived, we were told that Skip had some form of incident and that multiple doctors had worked on him, but he did not make it. We got to see Skip for a very few moments, but we were panicked as they had left poor deaf and blind Lucy alone at Petco and we wanted to get to her as quickly as possible. The manager from Petco was there at Silverado when we arrived, and he told us that they were preparing Skip for a bath when the person working with him was called out of the room for other business and so they left him there, on the floor, attached to a wash basin in a "harness". The manager said the person was out of the room for "about five minutes". When they returned Skip was laying on the floor unresponsive. They said that he had just collapsed for no apparent reason although they weren't in the room at the time. None of the treatments that he was there for were done. He was untouched. On Saturday, January 2, 2016, I went in to Petco to find out more. The manager repeated the story from the night before. I asked to see where Skip had died. He took me back to the grooming room and showed me a spot on the floor at the base of a dog washing station. The manager said "This is where he was." I asked to see the "harness", and he showed me a "Slip Lead" rope, which is essentially a choking style leash that is designed to tighten around the dogs neck if pressure is applied to the end of the rope. The choking end was placed around Skip's neck, and the other end was affixed to an eye-bolt attached to the stainless steel station tub. So effectively, Skip was left unattended for five minutes while a choking device was wrapped around his neck. I asked to see the surveillance video, but I was told there was not one. The district manager said that "We have those in the new stores, but this one is older, so we don't monitor." I personally think that is a cop-out, video cameras are inexpensive and super easy to install. Petco has more than the required resources to manage video monitoring. I have called two different Vets and they both tell me that this is not consistent with appropriate practices. Further, both Vets told me that if such a device is fixed to an animal EVEN IF THE ANIMAL IS UNDER ANESTHESIA, they are under observation 100% of the time. I want to make clear that Skip has yet to receive his autopsy, so I want to stop short of saying he definitely choked to death, but regardless of if he had a heart attack from fear, if it was something unrelated, or if he choked, I would encourage you to consider carefully whether or not Petco Napa is a safe place for your pet's grooming needs. Petco Corp. is paying for Skip's Autopsy per their offer, however I was told recently from a local Vet that they could potentially "fix" or sway the results since they are paying. I pray that is not the case, and if in fact they allowed my dog to strangle unattended, they own up to it. read more

I wish I had read the review on the grooming before taking my dog there. I usually take her to Petco in Vallejo which is just Fabulous! But on this one Saturday a few weeks ago, my dog had an appt for a therapy dog evaluation and because I did not get a chance to take her in for her bath the day before at Petco in Vallejo; I thought I would take her to Petco Napa for the first time. The staff was nice, when we came in, looked up her information in the computer, saw fro the info provided from Petco Vallejo, that she did not like the dryer and said that it was okay and that she would be ready in a couple of hours. I came to pick her up right before her evaluation, she was terrified and that is putting it mildly! My dog loves baths and is usually very happy when she is bathe at Petco in Vallejo. She cried and cried I thought it may have had something to do with them using the dryer on her, which they did attempt but she did not like it so she was a little wet in her face area. I was also told that she had a large bowel movement which was highly unusual because she never does that. When I got her to the car I could not calm her even when I tried to give her a treat she would not take it. I stopped the car after driving for a bit and let her out, she then ran to a grassy area and had diarrhea. She continued to cry a little bit but she would not stop shaking. Needless to says she did not pass her evaluation for Therapy Dog and will need to take test again. I did tell the evaluators what happened, my dog was just fine before I brought her to Petco Napa and I will never take her back! It could have been much worse and I am so sorry for the owners and the dog that died there. I hope who ever is investigating gets to the bottom of this! Someone is not treating the dogs right at Petco Napa and they should be held responsible! read more

We've taken our yorkie there a few times. The first few times were good with no issues. His hair grows fast and the hair on his face gets gross from eating, so this past time we asked that they please cut his face really short. They did the exact opposite. This is absolutely disgusting. DO NOT BUY THE DOG TREATS FROM THE BINS!!! I bought some Halloween treats from the bins about 2-3 weeks ago and I was saving them for the week before Halloween (right now). I opened the bag last night and the treats were covered in eggs, worms, and webs!! It was so gross!! I called Petco today and told them about it and they said that it happens a lot because the treats in the bins do not contain any preservatives, but that they check the bins twice a week for any flour worms. The flour worms are automatically in the flour that they use to make the cookies, and since the recent weather patterns have gone from hot to cold, and now to rain, the eggs sort of activate from the weather change. They told me I could bring them in for a refund but I had already thrown them away and the garbage people took them away. When I asked them why sell the treats at all if this happens, and they told me that people don't want to buy dog treats that have preservatives in them. Right, so worms is better than preservatives? I will definately NOT be going back to Petco unless I need to, and I will no longer take my dog there to be groomed. This is just ridiculous and disgusting. read more

Let me preface this by saying a run a medical marijuana dispensary, lot of people think the people in my industry are lazy and unfocused, well I dont know about that. I work 12 hour days. My store is open on time at 9am everyday and doesnt close until 8pm. I never close early or take a day off without it being covered. This PETCO is the exact opposite garbage workers. I raced here from 30 miles away to get there before they closed so I could get my sick dog her necessary canned food following an operation. It was an almost impossible mission to make it there in sunday traffic but somehow I pulled into my space at 7:55. I ran up to the door and its locked. The cashier is 5 feet from me inside I ask please I need to get my dog her food she is sick. SHe tells me sorry were closed. The sign says 8 right next to me. But I guess they make up there own rules at this petco. not surprised they have a 2 star average it should be 1 tho. These workers are garbage and I am sure the management as well. They would last a week at my business. Whats even the point of having hours you dont honor. I guess just to steal a paycheck. If you care about your pet never come here. I took my dog Max to get groomed. They wouldn't take him because I had given him a pill for anxiety. So, I took him back. They wouldn't groom him because "he tried to bite". Everything is against their policy. He isn't even two yet, and they have banned him for life. Really? Can't work with a customer? By-the-way. The company that owns Petco is run by idiots. The store is perpetually understaffed and understocked. My senior dog requires a particular brand and formula of dry food, and there is never any assurance that food will be in Stock! They only stock the large size bags of Blue Buffalo Large Breed Senior Dry Dog Food, and never stock the smaller bags, but they do stock other smaller bags of Blue Buffalo formulas. When the large sacks of Large Breed Senior disappear, there are no alternatives for that specific formula. I'm frustration, I went to Pet Food Express and bought another Blue Buffalo product for senior dogs, but they did not carry what was needed. I called Petco Customer Service since it has been days since the food I needed has been out of stock for days. Customer Service was completely useless. Their call center is also understaffed. When I finally got through, the clerk told me to order online. Delivery would take up to six days, after looking for it for two days. Also, I would have to pay shipping fees, due to Petco incompetence. Then, that clerk put me on to a supposed supervisor, who again asked me to order online after I had told him I have dog food for today and tomorrow. It will be a cold day in Hell before I consider buying anything from this company of idiotic cretins! Ugh! I am supposed to get a call from a District Manager, but still got NO PRODUCT FROM PETCO. read more

My dog was there one time and when I brought her back she refused to go to the door almost got out of her leash and had a bm and started shaking. When I walked away from the grooming door she was her regular happy-go-lucky self again. We went down the street to Silverado and she had no problems at all. I have been raising tropical fish for many many years I am 70 years and an avid fish hobby type. My wife of 49 years received another 29 gal aquriam which we properly cycled, Set up, and went on 49 years of experence.. We unfortunatly decided to get some fish from Napa PETCO. The young girl waiting on us had on a shirt labled "Dog Trainer" I asked her first abou a couple of Loaches. "BLANK STARE" Uh sir I don't think we got any of those. Next I asked about Sword Tails."Smile over here as she pointed out Bettas. I liked a couple and showed her which ones I wanted. She got a net and opened the tank,"OOPS I caught the wrong fish do yo want it instead?" I said No finely she did somehow manage to catch the right fish. I spotted the sword tails and explained I wanted a male and a female. "Blank Stare again" Uh!! Do you know the difference? I pointed out A White male and a white female. She managed to catch them both no problem this time. She was Bagging them up and told me I was "Over crowding my tank" I explained it was a 29 gal tank well cycled and how four 2" fish was okay. She rudely told me with that PETCO would not warrenty the fish as advertised. I took the fish only after my wife nudged my arm and whispered let's get the Hell out of here. OKAY my review!
