Petco is the only pet store I shop in! I can usually find helpful clerks to answer any questions that I may have! But ckg out has always been a pleasure! Bad experience with the grooming service, take your pet elsewhere. Staff was kind but the interaction left a bad taste in my mouth. Waited over a month for an appointment. The claim they are unable to complete the full haircut service because the dog refused to stand. Ok. Then they charged me over 70$ for basically rinsing my dog off. He doesn't even look brushed. Feel ripped off. I understand that I should pay something for the little they were able to do, but this feels excessive. read more

Petco - Sweet, but ungroomed dog. - Pet Stores Near Me - Napa, California

Extremely rude staff at this location. After standing around in the fish department for 10 minutes with zero employees in sight, I approached the cashier up front and asked if they can ask someone to help me in the department. A women on the phone behind the cashier said "it's going to be awhile and I have a line and going on my lunch." In the "line" in front of the store was 2 people and there were 2 other employees there for a total of 3 employees. Do they only have 1 staff member in each department? That would be wild on a Saturday late morning. Even if this was the case, her reply was unnecessarily rude especially since I didn't even ask her since she was on the phone. Customer service is dead. **Update** I was finally able to get some help and it was the woman on the phone. As she asked what I needed, she made a point to mumble that she would see what she can do because she needed to clock out for lunch. Apparently this retail business model is to not make sales while people are at lunch. Crazy idea here, more staff? read more

Customer service, older lady's are usually fine but the younger lady I usually have to deal with is always stressed and doesn't not come off to not have any sort of customer service training. Says she is the only in the floor so maybe more staff would be helpful for the workers. Been trying to get a price from a tank on clearance but the price has been ripped off for at least 2mknths and I still haven't been able to get help on getting the price check. I'm so upset and disappointed with this Petco's grooming services. They had always told us that our dog did well, no issues but I kept wondering why he was SO anxious every time we went there, shaking and running towards the door, whining next to me. And prior to this place, he never had issues going to the groomers when we lived somewhere else. Today we found out why. We moved again and went to a different location, and they told me they were surprised how well he did and how sweet he was because the notes from Napa's location said he was SCREAMING. My dog doesn't scream at home, ever. I'm thankful we know now, but it hurts to know he was suffering, and we were never told. I'm writing this months after moving because otherwise we would have never known what he experienced with groomer Madison W. at this location. I don't write reviews but this was necessary. read more

My husband and I went here to get cat food. Not our typical store we go to. We were so sad to see the uncleanliness of the cages of the foster cats. It was so bad that the smell of the litter boxes filled the whole store. The reptiles cages had poop and old dead skin all over the ground of their cage and plants. All the animals look sad and not taken care of. As an animal lover please someone help this store. This made our experience very concerning. read more

I called the schedule my pet's appointment and I was told my pets were being referred out because they were too old and stressed this is the first I'd heard about it. They did complain that they had a hard time doing the heads of one of my dogs because he can't moving his head although I've never had that issue in all the 16 years this dog has gone to another groomer. Haven't they figured out how to keep a dog's head still? My poodle mix the last time ended up looking like a werewolf because it was such an uneven cut but I let it slide and then I get this information that they're not even going to take my dogs anymore on the telephone. This never was communicated. I've never had anyone complain about my dogs before so I would never recommend this place. Inconsistent grooming and lack of communication. read more

Chase took his time with my small children and I. We had a lot of questions regarding a new fish tank. He helped us choose the right tank, all the necessary chemicals to balance our tanks bacteria & how to introduce our fish. He even informed us and recommended the monthly reward program! Thanks Chase! read more

HORRIBLE !! I have given Petco Grooming two try's and both times it was horrid!! You would expect some form of kindness or a welcome, rather you are greeted by a complete attitude, and the second you walk in the smelly dirty space ( they call it a grooming station ), you already have second thoughts. I have a 15 pound Rat Terrier/Mini-Pincher mix, I just wanted her nails trimmed. Both time they hardly trimmed them and seemed to not know what they were doing. I thought I would give them one more chance, made a appointment 4 days prior to the agreed upon date, they changed it twice and then cancelled the morning of! WORTHLESS, SMELLY, DIRTY and that's being kind! Stay Away ! read more

I had a 9 AM appointment today. Showed up 10 minutes early. Petco is closed but they're grooming station was open. I knocked on the window. They saw me and just waved at me. I stood out there for about 5 to 10 minutes. They never came out and told me what was was going on. I left and I received a text from the groomer and said they told me that I had to wait, which they didn't. I didn't know that waving is telling you that they'll be right with you, horrible customer service. Not only that they blamed me for showing up 10 minutes early. They could have just came outside and told me what was going on. I have the text messages to prove it. Never once did they apologize and blamed me for being early. I will never spend a dime at Petco ever again. read more

Don't even bother trying to get into the Petco groomers. For one, they never answer the phone. You have to go into the store to make an appointment. Once you're in you'll get an awful human being to help you like Savannah. Always in a bad mood complaining about other customers and their dogs. She cancels appointments 24/7 usually for family drama. They won't reschedule for you they make you wait for her to call you back to reschedule. I was 15 minutes late for an appointment and they cancelled my appointment after I called to apologize. I'm done with this place. Never seen anything more poorly run. When I complained politely about the cancellation Savannah sent me a scathing text that you would never send to a customer. Happy to share it if a manager would like more info. read more

I come to this location for my dogs food about every two to three weeks and everyone is always absolutely lovely and so very kind. Today I had an encounter with Leann at the cash register and she was very rude. She got upset because she threw the 45lb dog food on the floor to scan it and then looked over and asked me a visibly pregnant woman if I was gonna take care of it ?? Like no ma'am I physically cannot carry a 45lb bag? She then proceeded to put the bag on the cart and then say a bunch of rude stuff under her breath. Maybe she was just having a bad day but it's no way to treat a customer. read more

My son got his first pet, a hamster, yesterday. The enclosure we were gifted was way too small so last night we ordered a new, larger one for in-store pickup today. When we got to the store, Party greeted us and got our items ready while we picked up a few more things. She told us about the rewards program which we had considered joining before but hadn't. Since it seems like we'll be there frequently, it made sense to join since she told us about an additional cash back promotion PetCo is running right now. Since joining also gives you a percentage discount, Patty offered to redo our online transaction with our new discount. Wow! With the money saved we bought a few cans of cat food for the shelter kitties. Great experience and we know we'll be back! read more

I took our family dog here today for a grooming appointment . Instead I received a call minutes later after dropping Poncho off that he was injured during the nail trim part of the grooming . They said they were on the phone with a vet and needed me to come there right away . When I arrived there the bleeding Nail had stopped bleeding but poor poncho was visibly traumatized. All the groomers stood around looking sheepish and the manager did say if he needs to go to the vet later that Petco would pay for it . I did get some back talk and lame excuses as to how this could have happened but the groomer who did it did not seem apologetic and kept trying to insist it wasn't her fault . I should have known not to bring my puppy here because of the 2 stars. First, the lady at the register who checked me in tried to turn me away for being 8 mins late. So I requested to speak to the manager and told the manager I am coming from Fairfield and I waited for a month for this appt. Then when I picked him up the lady who checked me in was also the groomer. So I don't know if she intentionally did this to my puppy but his face was cut so close to his skin and did a horrible job on my puppy. She also did not trim or clean him around his peri area. They did such a horrible job! Please don't bring your puppy to this horrible place they don't care about the pets here! I also paid over $100 for a crappy job! read more

What a hilariously terrible store and experience. I'm not surprised now seeing they have a two star rating on Yelp. We drove 1.5 hours round trip to buy a fish tank. Spent $168 on the entire set up. Got home only to find out the fish tank has been previously used and was absolutely disgusting. Called to inform them. Obviously driving 1.5 hours to return this is not realistic for a $70 fish tank. It isn't worth my time or gas. The manager was incredibly rude. He was unwilling to do anything over the phone and basically told me that if I wasn't willing to come back to return it, I was out of luck. When I got upset at that, he hung up on me. Wow. I will never spend a single penny at this joke of a store again. read more

I know corporate will not do anything but I wanted to write this to inform the public. I rescued a bearded dragon from petco. I know they are not the best Place to buy a exotic companion for many reasons but I knew this little guys fate if I did not at least try. This little dragon has metabolic bone disease. It is caused from improper lighting, diet and the improper use of or no use of supplements such as calcium and minerals. Because of this the bearded dragon starts taking calcium from their bones to try to survive. This can cause death or a deformity as they grow. The baby dragon I saved can not walk properly. I have been working closely with my vet to help him. He is currently on liquid calcium 2 times a day and feeding him throughout the day to get him to gain weight. He was underweight when I rescued him. His X-rays showed his bone density is no where near where a healthy bearded dragon should be. I hope if you are reading this you do your research and not shop at petco for a new companion but a breeder. Breeders will sell you healthy animals and tell you how to take care of it. Please educate yourself! For people who have a bearded dragon a proper set up includes A tube UVB t5 or a Arcada light and fixture (not sold at petco, petsmart etc) A basking bulb that is appropriate to your size of tank. Minimum tank size for a adult bearded dragon is a 40 gallon breeder. Temp should be 100 on the basking side Please do not use any colored lights. It can cause blindness. Buy crickets from rainbow mealworms. They do not have worms. If comfortable roaches are a healthier option. Put the crickets a cup with some calcium or minerals and coat them with it. Switch calcium and minerals off. Offer salad. Please do your research on what is safe for them Lastly use paper towels, shelf liner or tile as a substrate. Something that bearded dragons can't digest or if they do it will not harm them. Sand will cause impaction if digested. The sun is your best friend for a happy and healthy bearded dragon. Take them outside to bask. They will thank you! Hope that helps to the future bearded dragon or current bearded dragon owners out there ! read more

If I could give this place no stars, I would. My name is Jasmine and this past week I popped in. To my surprise, I saw a Russian Tortoise with ONE nostril and a HORRIBLE shell. They had this poor guy on the sales floor before they ever took him in for an exam. I waited 3 days, and on the 3rd day I waited an hour + for him to get back from the vet. Thinking that the time reflected on his health, I was given the tortoise without any information other than "They're ready to go!" I allowed them to tell me this, with intention to visit whatever vet he went to to get the exam summary. They discounted him, due to a blemish on his face. (His nostril has fused into one.) They told me it was a birth defect. I took him home at 135$. The NEXT DAY, my new friend pooped an entire SACK of worms. Like not just a few pinworms; it was almost fatal. I immediately called PETCO, because they offer a 30 DAY policy where (OR SO I THOUGHT) they will cover any vet appointments that may need to occur. I spoke with the ASSISTANT MANAGER. I didn't get her name but I know her face. She tried to tell me LETTUCE is TOXIC to tortoises. What? The assistant manager THEN goes to tell me that "If I want my friend to go to the vet I have to return him." Return him? That's weird. Do you know what they do to animals that need treatment worth more than they are on the sales floor? KILL THEM. I took him to the vet to drop off the fecal samples, and after asking for it, I was granted the summary. Teeny (his name) is in need of a fecal sample, and then medication to get better. He also might have an upper respiratory infection. It will all definitely cost over 150$. Don't listen to PETCO when they say that they can't give out the vet records. They take ALL their animals to SILVERADO ANIMAL HOSPITAL, located at 2035 SILVERADO TRAIL, NAPA CA 94558. They won't give out the patient ID to you so call the hospital with the date that you know the ANIMAL went to the vet. The veterinarians there are very friendly and will most likely help out. And they WILL give out the exam summary. I included mine in this review. This tortoise has been taken from the wild, and then gotten a price slapped onto it. Looking into his eyes as he only had kibble and a small dish of water to survive with less than a foot of space, I knew it was my mission to rescue him. There is another REDFOOT tortoise there and I will visit it every day until it dies. You can see her bones. She is in pain. I can't take it home but I want her to know it's loved. To PETCO it's just another day to make a dollar. To me it was a day to save a life. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE. Only adopt from them when it's an emergency like this. Who knows what other animals are suffering every night in a glass box wishing for a better life. I wish I could go in there, requesting health updates for every animal in there. They almost always have a problem with their fish, and their birds. DO NOT SHOP HERE. AT ANY LOCATIONS. SAVE THE ANIMALS. PLEASE. read more

This place is so disturbing. I went in with my dog just to get a couple of fish. I was shocked again like I was two years ago. Both inside and outside of the tanks were horrible with drips stained on the outside and dead fish laying on the bottom. The fish are eating each other. Dry food had been swept under tanks in the corners. So gross! I don't know who is in charge but whoever it is needs some heavy duty training. The aquarium part was horrible but the rest of the store was filthy also. Hand prints all over the font door. Looked like they haven't been cleaned for a week at least. The floors, no words! Sad but true! I did speak to a woman on my way out. After a brief conversation explaining my concerns she didn't seem like it was a big deal. For the animal lover in all of us. Where would I be without my dog? My cat? My llama? My rabbits? I would probably have children, selfish 'look-at-me' 'gimme-gimme' children. I could have had children if I wanted, you know. Sue me for not having children. I am an animal lover! Hear me ruff ruff woof woof woof! They don't need constant attention. They won't smear their snotty fingers on my windows and mirrors. There's no crayon drawings on my walls! I don't have to buy diapers, never have to get back-to-school clothes, I never have to get my kid a haircut on 'Photo Day', never have to .. Arrrrrrrrrr harrrrrrrrr harrr! (That's a laugh by the way and not a 'in-the-middle-of-the-night' sob after realizing that my dog is on its last leg and my llama is about to be taken from me because I don't have boarding rights.) Anyway, back to the store. One hang-up I have is that they have four or five check-out stands, but only one checker available at any given time. I mean, cummmawwn! I've got some lady with her two kids in front of me in line trying to get a refund on the t-shirt that doesn't fit their cockerspaniel and some snot-nosed brat behind me whining to his dad for a dog treat. This is probably one of the most DYSFUNCTIONAL Petco's I've EVER been to. I called an hour before I came into the store to be sure they had crickets before I sat there for 30 minutes looking for someone to help me. They said they did. Get to the store, to see one employee, Ann, who told me they were out of crickets. This store has nothing but problems. It's inconvenient because practically the only place in town you can buy crickets. I get that there is a shortage and everything, but don't LIE to customers on the phone and waste their time. This obviously isn't the first time I've had an issue with this store. Nothing. But. Issues. Don't even get me started on the employees there. Some of the slowest and unproductive people. See 3 employees talking to a lady about bird food while there's a long line at one check stand. (With an indolent checker). I don't do Yelp reviews like this EVER, but just warning anyone before they waste their time at a joke of a store. You'd probably waste less time driving to the Vallejo one and back, at least they have attentive employees. AND STOCK. read more

Beware**** do not take your dog here for grooming. A couple brought their dog here for grooming for the first time. He was on a choke restraint leash, was left unattended for a short period of time, and unfortunately did not make it. Pets should not be left unattended under grooming care, especially while on a choke restraint. They can panic and try to jump which leads to hanging themselves. Petco offered the owner additional money and the owner refused. This place still won't even own up to their mistake. All the owners wanted was closure for what happened to their dog. Source: kron4 news, & abc news. If you love your dogs, do not bring them here. To the business owners of Petco: what can you do to improve is to provide proper training to your employees and hire groomers that actually have adequate experience. 1 month of training an employee is not enough. Please own up to your mistakes. Don't just offer money to the family after killing their dog thinking that'll make everything better. read more

I am beyond upset I try to stay away from reviews but this time I'm feel like it's important to talk about the fact that the people at the Napa location are insensitive. If you're reading this and think it sounds familiar that's because it is a family member already posted about this but I'm the owner of the kitten mentioned. He's 7 weeks old and this was his first time at the vet so I was already nervous for him. My experience with them was horrible not only do they not know how to pick up a kitten but they also dropped him and caused him to have an accident(he completely soiled himself out of fear). It would have been better if they let someone he knows hold him or even held him properly but they failed to do so. He's now shaky and has a bit of a limp he is usually a very playful kitten and has an adorable walk but seeing him be cautious of how he moves is heart breaking. I heard rumors of PetCo being horrible to pets but seeing as the location near to me seemed nice I decided to give them a shot. I expected other locations to be just as nice but I was clearly wrong. If anyone is planning to vaccinate or anything that involves pet hanging I don't recommend coming here. I think paying a higher price is better than paying little and having people drop/slam your pet. As mentioned on my family member's post we have a recording of this and he clearly got "aggressive" (their words not mine) when the older gentleman held to tight on to him(you can see how he was squeezing his ribs/stomach area) (not a single person of my family has ever grabbed him in such a cruel manner) you can then hear as they drop him and he hits the table he is not an aggressive cat not even when I bath him does he meow as loud as he did in the video. I'm sorry for ranting but he is genuinely the cutest kitten ever and I'm just super upset that he was treated in such a way. Even if he is an animal he shouldn't be treated like that maybe it's my fault for trusting a place that had bad rumors going around but I think they should really be less rough on all pets. read more

Most of the people that work there are rude. Not all. I came by Thanksgiving morning and online it said they were open and there was no sign out front saying they were closed today when I arrived. There were 2 women inside and the lights were on. One walked by and saw me and didn't acknowledge me and another customer waiting at all. After 10 minutes of waiting I knocked and another lady came over, rudely saying they were closed. I replied then you should at least put a sign saying you aren't open today. She condescendingly points to one that only says 'open Black Friday'. Nothing about Thanksgiving day. I also pointed out that the other women walked by and saw us and could have told us that instead of leaving us waiting. Her response 'she's 15 and doesn't work here'. Maybe she shouldn't be there helping you stock then? Just sayin. read more
