This was always my favorite local Petco - parking in the lot was easy and the selection was great since it's a big store. We even found a puffer jacket for Darby that has become a favorite wherever we go (he's actually wearing it in the photos). Ian was often the associate who helped me at the register on weeknights when I came to refill my rescue dog's wet food. Generally, service was always excellent at this store and I will be sad to see them go! Currently, much of the inventory is on sale anywhere from 10% to 25% off. I got a great discount on a 5-gallon Fluval fish tank made especially for bettas. Just keep in mind many of the critters (canaries, small animals, fish) have already been relocated, if you're looking for new pets. read more

We love this Petco! Even though we don't have pets of our own, we like to go practice shopping here for the day we add a pet to our family. It's a creating your future type of exercise lol. Also my son loves squeezing the squeaky toys and seeing the pets they have for sale. The workers are also very lovely and kind. They seem eager to help. The pets also seem healthy and cared for, except the Beta fish that kinda just float there unmoving. It's creepy. But overall super cool store; there's grooming and a vet hospital as well as a treat bar and fresh food options. This Petco seems to have it all! read more

Walked dogs nearby and realized I had no water bowl for them. Both dogs were panting like crazy and I felt so so bad. I saw the sign for Petco on my way home and got blown away by this location. Coming from DC/MD area, I am used to dingy, grimy, and downright unfriendly Petcos. I wasn't expecting much and had very little expectations when visiting this one too. Boy was I so wrong. Immediately upon entering the store, THE PLACE SMELLED SO FRESH AND CLEAN. Every aisles were well stocked and organized. Nothing on the ground too -- no products, no leashes, no droppings, no cruds, no dust bunnies, no dried spills. NOTHING. So clean. I was impressed. What made the visit even more special was how friendly the associates were. Dan went over some of the benefits I didn't even know I had under my Petco VitalCare Premier plan. Had he not pointed it out, I didn't even know I had $60 worth of credit just to get some free bag of dog food. What!? He had such great customer service too. Went here for supplies and a new puppy checkup. Initially, they had no appointments, but the receptionist for Vetco came and found me in the store when they had a cancellation. They treated my puppy well, explained what tests I did NOT need- which was nice as I saw they weren't trying to cash out on everything. They were friendly, nice and treated the little puppy sweetly. The store personnel are just as great- one gentleman got down on the floor to play with my puppy when he saw how nervous she was... she didn't want to leave him by the time I was done. Hands down, my favorite Petco to go to. Like many people, I'm apprehensive about shopping at big chain pet stores. However, I can confidently say that if you have to shop at one, please choose this location. I own two dogs (one being a puppy), and have 16 fish tanks with over 50 fresh water, aquatic critters between them. I've met, and interacted, with employees from the grooming department, the Pet clinic, and the employees on the sales floor. I can tell you that they're all highly knowledgeable about both dogs and fish. They probably know a lot about cats and other pets too, but I haven't had experiences with that side of Petco. My dogs always come out looking so pretty and clean from grooming, and the staff at the clinic always sure to inform me of any health concerns about my dogs. They are also very professional and non-judgmental. Also, please tip your dog's groomer when you can! As for the sales floor staff, they have helped fuel me and my wife'a fish keeping obsessions! Robin, Samantha, and the younger guy with glasses who I always find changing the water for the fish tanks, I'm looking at YOU guys . Those three especially, as well as the others who I haven't had as much time to interact with, are all very knowledgeable about fish keeping and the various species they carry. The fish at this store are the healthiest fish you'll ever see in a big box pet store. The management and staff ACTUALLY CARE whether their fish live or die. The tanks are SO CLEAN, and the betta fish look so healthy! You may find dead fish in their tanks occasionally, but unfortunately, that is part of the process. While you can provide a really clean and healthy environment for the fish in store, not all of them will survive the stress of the shipping process. Not to mention, some fish are susceptible than others to disease and stress. However, the employees tend to know some of the personalities and general health conditions of the aquatic animals they carry. Suffice to say, if you have any questions about fish keeping, please feel free to ask them. Many of them are veteran fish keepers and can answer many of your questions, even if they're nuanced. To management, thank you for hiring AMAZING employees, and thank you for caring. The Signal Hill Petco runs their store completely opposite to you guys, and it breaks my heart every time I even think about that store. I don't ever write reviews but as a pet parent that cares about your pets this is good information for you to know. This review is for vetco and the negligence that came from someone from their staff. My dog was prescribed 25 mg of Rimadyl and they fulfilled the prescription at 75 mg.... He's 12lbs and got rimadyl that was 3x the dose he should've gotten. The hospital called the vetco clinic to inform them about the mistake and they called me to apologize. They said the bottles are next to each other which is probably why the mistake happened. Careless. Not sure if they plan on letting go the employee that made the mistake so if you do decide to go here, please compare the prescription to what you receive in the bottle. read more

I recently brought my cat in for an exam because he had an eye infection. The vet staff were really friendly and we were seen right away. It was nice to be able to shop around while they ran tests. This store is also huge and newer than other locations and their selection of products is great. I highly recommend getting the vital care premier membership. You get great discounts on food and litter and the exam fees in the vet clinic are free. It was also very easy to make an appointment online for the vet office. 10/10! read more

I am here to let people know of a very disappointing customer service experience and extremely unprofessional behavior that was provided to me and my dog today at the Petco in Long Beach and Pacific Coast Highway. My son brought our dog in for her 11 o'clock appointment two days ago, but because he was eight minutes late he was told that he would have to reschedule because they "try to run on time and that the appointment would only be 15 minutes." He rescheduled for the same 11 o'clock slot two days later. Today we arrived exactly at 11 o'clock, we're not told of any delays, and then we're required to sit in the waiting room for an hour. We were eventually escorted to an open room where we proceeded to wait for 25 minutes to see the veterinary physician. I went outside the room to talk to the front office person and explain to her that I completely understand that clinics like this have unexpected delays that can sometimes lead to longer patient wait times. I myself work as an orthopedic trauma surgeon and have similar type delays on a semi regular basis. However, I explained to her the double standard that existed between the penalty for an 8 minute late arrival 2 days ago and the visit today where we waited for over an hour and had still yet to be seen. I also told her that we were not informed when we checked in of the excessive wait time and because of this we missed another scheduled doctors appointment at 12:30. When the veterinary physician, Dr. Anne Tayamen, finally arrived approximately an hour and a half after our scheduled appointment time, she did not introduce herself, examined my dogs ears for one minute, and then attempted to leave the room after recommending immunizations be done that day. No acknowledgment of the delay, and no apology. When I asked her if the front office person told her of our situation, she replied that "yeah, they told her something." When I explained to her that I completely empathize with the situation of unexpected delays, but that from a customer service perspective, it is usually most appropriate to tell the patients ahead of time of the excessive delay and apologize for these delays. She then looked at me in the eye and said "I don't feel sorry for anything." I asked her, "excuse me?" She then raised her voice at me and said "you heard me, I don't feel sorry for this at all." For the sake of this young physician and hopefully several decades of future service, I hope that she reflects on this situation, learns from it, and that somebody from Petco holds her accountable. Furthermore, I hope that she recognizes the dangers in extremely unprofessional behavior as it relates to her job security and reputation. Certainly, at the highly esteemed organization I work for, this type of behavior would not be tolerated and could lead to termination. read more

I didn't heed all the warnings and thought I would try their grooming/ bath only for starters. Mistake! My poop pup had fleas again -so the vet gave Me the one pill to kill the fleas followed by a bath and new topical treatment. I could not bathe him myself (another story) so here goes... Your grooming asked me about rabies and when we arrived with vaccination verification in hand, I was then asked if he was on any other medication and since he is treated for seizures and hasn't had one for 9-10 months () they said we need a vet authorization he could be groomed. Asked why they didn't ask about this yesterday when I could have obtained the Verizon letter. They had no answer for me-- just sit you can come back tomorrow. At least the manager was apologetic, but said the procedure is to ask upon arrival and just ask about rabies on the phone. I think it is obvious their procedures don't work. So I am stuck without being able to bathe my dog and give him his new flea medicines To top of ok-- the salon manager was rude-- talked at me and over me rather than showing and interest in listening to a poor experience and how it impacted a potential client. She did not have a response for why the question was not asked when the appointment was set up rather than turn people away at the door. She lacked the ability to say I am sorry and maintained a poor attitude and posture. In fact, she turned it into my fault for not telling them my dog had seizures even though they asked four times about rabies verification and sent three text confirmations of the same. No wonder their rating is so poor. I will call my regular groomer when open in the morning. Small business just care more about their clients-- especially when they are animals!! read more

I made my appointment for my two pets to come in for grooming well in advance and day of, the women at the grooming station turned me away. I was told there is a 10 minute grace period and I was 4 minutes past that. I have never ever ever heard of this 10 minute policy. EVER. One woman in a belittling tone says, "it doesn't say that in the text after you book?!" And I responded earnestly, no it does not. For her - I attached a screenshot of the messages sent by Petco when confirming a grooming appt. Nothing about a 10 minute policy. I almost cried on the spot because my dogs NEEDED to be groomed. Today and in the morning. Normally I'm reasonable and this wouldn't be a big deal just annoying and I'd reschedule. I begged this woman to please take my pups because my mother who lives in another country is coming into town today and is staying with me and she is incredibly particular and does not like my dogs or how much they shed and my husky was in dire need of deshedding. I'm less than two months out from my wedding and I've had fire after fire and countless things go wrong these last few weeks and I needed this to be one easy win with my mother and in literal life. After the woman said they couldn't take the dogs she goes to the back to ask someone else if they're okay keeping the appointment. Minutes later they come out and say it's too late. I begged them and explained my mother was coming into town and this was so important and told them if they stopped having a discussion about it and just took them they could get started sooner. One woman responded rudely saying "actually no we couldn't because another client just got here." So, you're telling me within the 14 minutes I was past my appointment time they would have had both of my dogs washed and well on their way to being done with the grooming and ready to take another client?? They wasted an incredible amount of time just standing there and staring at me and each other. Then one woman says "actually we can't because I have a VIP client coming in". And then it all clicked. These women cannot manage their calendars and I don't believe they couldn't take my dogs they CHOSE not to because of a VIP client. Also, it's PETCO! What in the world does it mean to have a VIP client at a PETCO?? You're pet groomers not the hostess at Nobu Malibu. I begged again for them to just at least take my husky and they offered a 1:30 appointment which simply would not work with when I needed to have the dogs grooming done by in order to be able to pick up my mother. I made a morning appointment in advance for a reason. The woman repeated to me she had a VIP client coming and could not keep my morning appointment even if it was just the husky. I walked away in a panic and in tears. These women were unhelpful, terrible, and clearly unfair with their scheduling tactics to accommodate whatever in their minds constitutes a VIP pet grooming client. I'm posting this review here and anywhere else that will allow it and calling Petco to complain about the specific women working this morning. People make appointments in advance for a reason and they expect for those to be upheld for a reason. Oh and I was 4 minutes past the "grace period" because I got there and waiting for my dogs to pee and poop (which one of them did) before heading inside. No good deed goes unpunished with these horrible women apparently. I'll book end this with saying I've been coming here for years and have had the kindest customer service and these women were not it. One time the manager accidentally double booked me and she called me numerous times to offer the option to bring them earlier than their normal first appointment so she could accommodate. Then when I came in another groomer took the appointment from her so she wouldn't have too much on her calendar for the day. In the website you can select grooming for short or long haired dogs so i selected short hair as my maltipoo does not have very long hair but was told short haired dogs are breeds like pit bulls and chihuahuas which don't need haircuts so why even have an option to get a hair cut for short haired dogs like a pit bull when they don't need haircuts. So i end up paying a lot more than the online price and they charge you for other things you don't ask for. Poor customer service. Never coming here again. Will report to better business bureau. While I appreciate managements efforts to contact leadership, it does nothing of the fact that I paid nearly $80 for a botched hair cut. Honestly each day I look at my baby it makes me cringe. They took so much off the face and left it uneven that I can't even take him to my regular groomer who is super booked to try and fix it. Anyone reading this, read some of the recent reviews avoid taking you baby to these groomers, it's going to take months for his face to look normal. I've been to this store a few times and have always had a pleasant experience. Most recently I had brought my dog there to buy a new harness. I ended up leaving with one harness and then only getting as far as the parking lot before turning back around. It was too tight a fit. I was able to exchange it for a different harness with no problem. And this time, the employee took my dog's measurements and even let me try it on in the store. I was very pleased with my experience. Staff was very helpful answering all of my questions and giving me their recommendations. On the way to check out, a staff member saw me looking at the discounted dog beds and informed me that they had an even higher quality dog bed available on clearance. It was honestly much better then the one I had first noticed. I bought one that day and my mom liked it so much I came back the next day for another!! Thank you!! This review is for Petco's Adult Fundamentals In-Person Group Class (trainer Devon Ross). My husband and I recently completed this program with our young rescue dog, Maisie. She is our first dog, and we recently got her in the spring of 2023. We love her to death, and she's incredibly smart. That said, we were struggling with general obedience, as well as other specific behavioral issues (separation anxiety and leash reactivity), and so we decided to enroll in this class, both for its convenient location, relative affordability (they were doing a sale special), and schedule availability. As new dog owners, we found this class very helpful in building our confidence and understanding of our dog. This was because of Devon. He understood our needs and adjusted our class curriculum as necessary (please note that we ended up having private classes because we enrolled for a less popular schedule). These classes are not designed to "immediately fix" your dog during the class sessions (1 hour a week, 6-7 sessions). Rather, Devon instructed us how to best adjust our own training styles to effectively focus on Maisie's needs and issues. It was up to us to work with our dog during our non-class times, and to build up our bond. In some ways, it was like dog and owner therapy. In the end, Maisie passed with all the fundamental commands, we were able to address her separation anxiety, and we're continuing to make strides with her leash reactivity. Our final notes: if you are a new / inexperienced dog owner, we strongly recommend Devon to help you feel more confident in handling your dog, build a stronger bond together, and get quicker results in training. The kindness and humor Devon approached each class made our time enjoyable and worthwhile. We are so proud of Maisie, and we are very thankful for Devon's part in this chapter of her life. read more

DONT TAKE UR PET TO VETCO. they charged us $50 just for the doctor to see my puppy. they charged us with stuff my puppy didn't even need, they didn't even know what was wrong with her and gave her a bunch of medicine. Been coming here for years and the dog grooming continues to go downhill. Our last cut was so bad, people kept asking what happened. They left our dog in the kennel for 3 hours then rushed his cut the last 5 min. We actually watched them rush through it. What broke the camel's back is I just tried to return supplies that were a few days over the 30 day policy and they refused to even give store credit. A corporation this large should be able to make exceptions especially for repeat customers. Just bad business. read more

Made sure to have her vaccinations up to date along with her rabies certificate...I get to my 9:00 appointment and they tell me they can't take her because she's 15 years old. What?!!! No one even bothered to read the form or call me. The girl I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with was not helpful and really could not have cared less. Very unprofessional. I tried explaining that just because she's a senior dog does not mean she can't be groomed. The girl was just like "yeah. We can't help you!" This place is a joke!!! Save your money. Warning!!!!! Do not take your pet to Vetco vet!!!I I Took my 14 year old chihuahua to the VETCO at Petco on PCH and it was a bad experience. Last night he was throwing up and wailing all night and booked an appointment on petco's website they only had an 11am time and I took it. All he needed was to get a blood panel to see what's up so after they already have him in the back they come over and show me the cost of $219 for the bloodwork. I had no choice I signed away and then they brought him out and they said oh you will know the results in 4 days and I said no he could be dead by then. I said no I need to have the results today. There's no reason why we can't why I can't have the results today and they said no it takes her to four days I said well then I'm not payingfor this. I asked for the bloodwork I'd pay for the bloodwork and just have it taken to my regular vet who has a lab on premises and they wouldn't do it . So I walked out. All the staff were unprofessional with no compassion . They were all Gen Z that have no social skills. I will never go to Petco again. read more
