I have pets and Petco is perfect for everything ALL of my pets need. My dog, cats, fish, hamster, bunny.... They have it all. Oh and my frog too! This Petco in particular is really large and clean. The employees are all very friendly and seem knowledgeable. I love that I can always find parking and they have good lighting at night. The prices are good too. I recently ordered something online and it was ready for pickup within an hour which was perfect for me since I live in Brentwood and my commute takes me right by this Petco! Thanks! read more

I was recently in the store for the very first time as I'm a new dog mom and the girl that assisted me at the register explained how the purchase from that day would count towards earning a 5th qualifying purchase for free and I signed up for their program. I purchased a bag of dog food along with a dog mat. I returned a couple days later to purchase a few more items and once I received the crate I ordered realized the mat I purchased was too large for the crate. I went to the store to try and return the mat and they could not find my first purchase in the system nor were they able to accept the return with no receipt, they had no other way to verify my purchase. This is the first I hear of this from any store. I will not ever recommend this store and am now stuck with a doggy mat that was so expensive and won't be able to use. I called this location (Livermore) looking for information on fish tanks for a betta fish, and the employee advocated for me to get a fishbowl, saying "With betta fish, the smaller the better!" This is absolutely not true, and incredibly disappointing and frustrating to hear. I know she's given this advice to other people before, and it's incredibly harmful. If employees don't even know basic information on a very common pet fish then they shouldn't be giving advice. read more

I've had such wonderful experiences with this grooming location! They are thoughtful, patient, and efficient. Seamus has been groomed by Patty and Serafina, and they are amazing! When I showed up this week and didn't recognize anyone, I was a little worried, but was immediately reassured by the kind nature of the stylists. Nicole did an A+ job!!! My dog can be a bit of a an AH at first, but she was patient and so incredibly sweet! Seamus looks adorable and with the upcoming heatwave, he'll be much more comfortable. Usually I get great customer service from the employees at this location but this review is based on my last visit on 8/26/17. I had recently received an email for a free bag of treats from the treat bar for my dogs birthday. Upon check out (Celeste was the cashier) I had asked her a question regarding the email. She rudely said she didn't know and that was the end of that conversation. She didn't even try to contact another employee or manager to help answer my question. Since I was not happy with her customer service, I didn't stick around to grab the treats for my dog. I will just go else where. Again this review doesn't reflect the grooming department nor does it reflect my past experience with other staff members. I don't usually like to single out one person but I see that this is not the first complaint against her. Hope she can be retrained or taught better customer service. read more

Wow, this entire establishment is absolutely awful. Every single employee I encountered, especially NJ and Tami, were incredibly rude, unhelpful, disrespectful, and very unfriendly. Helpful, friendly, knowledgable staff. I have gotten all my fish from here and they've been healthy and young. I have also purchased all my aquatic plants from here, most of which have lived for years. When my fish came down with an illness, they comprehensively tested my water for free and were able to help me figure out what was going on. I also adopted both my cats from here and I adore them. Wonderful of Petco to sponsor adoptions and have adoptable cats and dogs available. Their cat and dog toys are well made and don't fall apart quickly. The store is VERY clean, impressively so. All their animals look healthy and alert, more so than ANY other pet store in town. I feel like the people here genuinely care about animals. read more

I've been taking my Newfoundland & French bulldog here ever since they were pups to get groomed by Patty. She does an excellent job! Knows exactly how to work with my dogs who can be stubborn at times. Plus, she loves dogs so I feel 100% comfortable leaving my babies with her. AND my dogs LOVE her. They get so excited when I tell them "You wanna go see Patty?" They know exactly who I'm talking about and now thoroughly enjoy going for a spa day. & I enjoy not breaking my back trying to give them a bath lol. I totally recommend Petco's grooming! When I went in to get a "refund" the gentleman at the register was so kind and seemed much more educated on their birds than the women that were there when we purchased our budgie. When I told him the budgie had been acting ill he told me that I could have brought him in an any time and they would have covered vet fees and made sure he was healthy - this was not explained to me when we purchased him. Apparently it is supposed to be explained that if there are any issues to bring him in to be checked out :/ I wish we would have known. He also said they rarely have parakeets pass away and actually wanted to have the bird checked to see why it died so they could protect any other birds. He seemed genuine and knowledgeable. Because of this I will raise my rating two stars - next time they should explain to any pet buyer that if there are any signs of illness they will take care of it (maybe even explaining what signs of illness are for that pet - treating the animals as a loved pet, not just a product to sell) read more

I first called this location to ask some questions about trying to house a small frog we found in our home from getting a Christmas tree this past year. Who would've known finding a frog in your house is supposed to mean good luck? Anyways, now I had to figure out how to keep the little guy alive so I talked to someone who seemed fairly helpful after some lengthy hold times. I made my way here to find what looked like 2 employees in the whole store so getting help wasn't easy. 20 minutes later after looking around and figuring things out using google and reading product descriptions I went to the checkout area. The checkout area was the messiest I've seen in a long time. Crappy racks with clearance items and probably regular price items people left there because they couldn't pay for their items. A line starts to form 4 parties deep with empty registers. I'm not one to exaggerate wait times and can't tell you with confidence how long we all waited exactly but this was definitely unacceptable. The whole store seems like a depressed nightmare of retail and this is coming from someone who used to work retail and can sympathize with work situations. Unless I'm in absolute emergency need of something I can't get at another local pet shop and really can't wait 2 days for amazon to deliver something I'll skip acknowledging that this place even exists. read more

Because of COVID-19 our usual grooming place was closed so we decided to try out Petco's grooming service and we honestly won't take him back again. We showed the lady some pictures and told her how we wanted the haircut on our Maltipoo, which was a medium/short haired cut. She ended up wanting to get comfortable with our dog but we noticed that she was not so friendly toward him. When we went to pick him up, we surprisingly saw that the haircut was totally not what we wanted, his hair is super short that you can see his pink skin underneath and there are some bald spots, which leads us to think that the employee is unprofessional. We won't take him to the grooming service again. read more

I had a fish tank with fish I had bought from Petsmart and the tank was doing really well. I went to this Petco and bought 6 fish to add to the tank. after two days almost everything in the tank has died. The fish I bought from Petco were very clearly DISEASED. I called and complained and their excuse was that the fish can't be diseased because the water filters through all the tanks. This just means that every fish at Petco is diseased. I had become very attached to my fish and african dwarf frogs that were living in the tank and just like that everything is dead. DO NOT BUY FISH FROM PETCO read more

The staff here is always very helpful! On a recent visit the checker noticed we were getting a new puppy and she gave me a coupon book with all sorts of great coupons, which were expired, but let me know that they still honor the coupons. I actually tried using the coupons at the Dublin location and they refused so I returned to this location and used them no problem! They also have a very good return policy. We were able to return a crate after another dog destroyed it. read more

I would rate this store a 0 if it was an option. My special needs daughter was very excited to pick up a few fish today to add to her newly conditioned 6-gallon cylindrical tropical tank. She had been informed by staff members through previous phone calls that we could add up to four small tropical fish (Tetras, 1 female beta, guppies) to the tank. However, when we went in today to pick out the fish the employee serving us refused to allow us to buy the fish mentioned. Stating that the female Beta needs at least 5 gallons to herself and no other fish can be added (As I look over at all the Betas in tiny little cups feeling sorry for them and wonder where she received her training). And then I look at a wall of 10-gallon tanks with 30 to 40 fish crammed in one tank. Feeling it was a good day to rescue a couple of lucky little fish. So we drove to Petsmart Dublin and rescued 3 tetras and 1 gorgeous female beta. All four are thriving and loving their new home. Sorry, Petco you just lost a lifelong customer. read more

This is for grooming specifically. The store itself is fine. We've taken our dog to the grooming department here for the last 2 years and it used to be good. Some sort of staffing issue appears to be going on as a few of the groomers no longer work there and it has been hard to get a decent appointment. When picking my dog up this last time it was plain to see that they had not followed my instructions at all, which is worse because it's the same cut he has always had these last two years, and the cut was very uneven in numerous places. But I shop in the aquatics department so I need an associate for that. Every time Serafina is at the front, she has always been rude and condescending. The one time she bathed and cut my dogs hair, he would yelp when we tried to touch him. I don't know what she did but he was hurt. I have taken my dog to see Patty who is great. If Serafina is around, he runs from her. I called the manager but he never called me back. For the grooming salon: Big fan again! After our regular groomer left to start her own business, we were a little disappointed in the job others did with Agnes the Bulldog. Then that person disappointed us,(she isn't a very good business owner: research my review of her), so we gave Petco another try. The professional job done was back to a 4 star worthy rating. And Agnes loves it there. She actually runs, well waddles, into the grooming area and has been known to nudge her way into the waiting room where she puts herself into one of the open kennels. And she looked well groomed and happy when I returned. Looks like some new staff is responding well the pet care. A little Xmas bow on her collar was a nice touch. We'll be back... read more

They have such a pretty selection of fish, particularly bettas. Most of the bettas I have seen at this specific location are in good health! When I took my girlfriend to buy her a betta, an employee named Megan helped us at the cash register. She first kindly thanked me for putting a divider in between the bettas I was comparing with concern to their stress levels. I was amazed, most chain pet stores have employees that lack the knowledge of proper fish care but she knew her stuff. Megan even triple checked the fish we picked out for any poor health conditions and told us what she was looking for. She honestly went above and beyond in making sure our fish was in good health so we felt better about our purchase. This girl deserves a raise! read more

I have been coming to this location for a while. Tonight I had a bad experience with customer service. Celeste was the cashier. She was not friendly nor said hello. What really made me upset was when I paid for my items in cash. She had the nerve to ask me would you like your penny back. My answer was yes. Number one you never ask a customer if they want their money whether it's a penny or a dollar. You let the customer make that decision himself. It's not the penny it's the principle. The staff here was great. We were visiting from out of town and took our two lovable labs out and got them all muddy. Despite being over booked the staff at Petco took them in and cleaned them for us while we visited with family. They were courteous, professional and very nice. I called the front desk to see if they could answer or at least get someone who could on the phone with me - she couldn't get me an answer or ask a groomer to talk to me for 30 seconds.
