Horrible customer service. I'm there for about 25 minutes and not once did I get greeted, asked if I needed help, and when I finally get to the register the cashier rings me up and then states "you know were only taking cash right?" & im like no, no one told me that & she's like "it's on the door", I'm just like ok thanks. I go outside & there's only one small sign that states it but it's on the door that slides in so how is anyone suppose to read that. As I'm writing this I've seen a couple customers go in & the doors already open so they can't even read it. It sucks working retail cause you know how it should be handled correctly. read more

Worst service I have ever had at Petco. Thanks to Manager Gene I will never shop or recommend this Petco ever. I purchased natures miracle dog urine remover at a different Petco. When I purchased it I was told I could use the entire bottle and if it didn't work to my satisfaction to bring it back to any petco. I tried it and I wasn't satisfied. I stopped at this petco to return the item. I used a little more than half the bottle. I spoke to the manager about returning it, because the cashier wasn't sure. Manager Gene looked at the bottle and said you can't return this. I explained What I was told. He called me a liar and said it was common knowledge that you can't use a liquid product then try and return it if I am not satisfied. Again I tried to explain what I was told at the other store. Then he proceeds to tell me "It's like going to a restaurant eating some of the food and saying you don't like it. You can't do that." Is this guy serious. What kind of people skills are these. I was very nice. I do not understand this guys problem. So I mentioned to him that I was gonna go back to the store were I purchased it. He laughs and says they are gonna tell you the same thing. What kind of manager laughs in a customers face and fails to attempt to find a solution. Or even hear him out? This manger is totally disrespectful towards customers. I ended up going to the petco were I purchased the product originally. They were very understanding and helped me find the right product. I would recommend avoiding this petco. read more

I only come to Petco for Science Diet dog food since my spoiled dog won't eat the cheap stuff. It's a smaller store and therefore seems cramped. Two carts can't really squeeze by each other in the aisles. The employees are friendly, however, and often offer assistance without being solicited. Parking is a bit tricky since In-N-Out is right next door and Alberston's is down the other way, it's hard sometimes to find an opportune moment to pull in/out. The small cans of wet Science Diet dog food have only been out of stock once since I started coming here but they stopped selling the beef and barley adult small and toy dog wet food so now there's only chicken. My dog is a brat but she's finally used to the change. The things we endure for our fur babies, sheesh. read more

Went here for the first time last night and I was so happy! Seeing all the animals from dwarf hamsters to fish and birds. It always makes me so excited. I needed to get my dog some food and I was so happy that they had it for 50% off!!! I was shocked. I've never spend so little on dog food. The workers were all very friendly and helpful and the cashier that helped me out last night was playing with the kitties before she rang me up so that made my heart so full. We like coming to this location since the staff is always very helpful and informative. As new dog parents we always have questions about what to offer our french bulldogs. I especially really like the fact that the staff was informative about the dog foods. We wanted to go with Blue Buffalo at first since a friend of mine gives her french bulldog this brand and recommended it too. We ended up going for Merrick since it also has raw in it so our frenchies really loves it. I've taken one of my pup's to the grooming area just to get her nails cut, teeth brushed and ears clean. They did a very good job and she even came out with a cute scarf. They were friendly and adored my frenchie. We also pick up some elk bones here for the dogs so we can always count on this spot for our doggy needs. read more

I arrived at 9:15 a.m., just after the store opened. I was trying to locate a remedy that was safe to apply directly on my dog who had been too friendly with a skunk. I asked a clerk where I would find such products & a Nature's Miracle display was pointed out to me. Try as I might, I could not read packaging as every other light in the store was turned off & it was simply too dark to read. I took a bottle to the front registers and again explained what I was looking for. The clerk snapped that what I chose would not work. I mentioned that I could not read the small print in the dark & the clerk again snapped that they were trying to save electricity. This clerk then marched to the Nature's Miracle display and announced that they have nothing in stock to help me. I left, making no purchase. 1. Making the store too dark is not a good thing. I like to be able to see, and if necessary, read the product I may elect purchase. 2. If your staff is crabby, send them home. I was dismayed that after the store was open a mere 25 minutes that the clerks were that seriously agitated. 3. Perhaps keeping a quality control on your inventory is a good idea for a retail location? 4. Parking is right out front & it's easy to get parked. Miserable trying to get out though. Poorly planned parking lot. I think I'll do my pet supply shopping at a facility that is actually happy to have customers, has inventory, is well lit, & is in a better, easier to access location. read more

I've brought my all dogs here for the grooming and it's always been a positive experience but this time, they went above and beyond. I'm so happy with these ladies. I'm fostering a pit lab mix named Duke. He's from the streets of Mexico and is just so so scared and timid. The staff here was so great, they took their time and really made sure he felt as safe as possible. They even sat in the floor with us to help calm his nerves. This is on our grooming experience: We purchased de-shedding treatment/bath with Monica. Our lab had extreme dandruff and dry red skin even after baths and brushing at home. On return from his visit? Barely any dandruff, redness had quelled, and no irritated itching for our pup! She was sweet and friendly, helped us find a skin spray to help maintain his condition for the next 4 weeks before we definitely see her again. Very helpful and we left happy. I don't know, I'm not a fan of these pet stores. This store has a bigger selection than one of the PetSmart stores we went to, so I give them that. However, I feel like the care for these animals is subpar. When we were choosing our female mice, we didn't get a choice in which ones we wanted. She just dropped a couple into our carrier box. Then, at the cash register, our rewards didn't register and the guy told us that he didn't think any of the items were going to give us a deal anyway. However, I swore there was a deal. I went back to check and saw that there was a 20% savings with the rewards! The gerbil food was $6.99 but it could have been $5.59, a whole $1.40. I guess I'm just annoyed by the service because he didn't allow us to get some savings. read more

I want to say. That we took our 2 little dogs in for grooming and pampering. When I made the appointment 2 days before I was given some coupons. Which was great ..so the day came and I took them in. When I went to go get them. I couldn't believe it. Yogi the boy didn't need a haircut but he got other stuff. Ellie. Well she needed a haircut and pampering. Wow I couldn't believe she was the same dog. The girls who took care of me were amazing. Sorry can't remember their names. But when I went to pay. The coupons I got 2 days before were expired. I was hesitant to bring my puppy in because of the pet store horror stories you see online, but after reading some other reviews here on yelp I decided to give it a try. My dog is a 7 month old pug puppy and he's still a bit shy. Being his first time at a groomer I can only imagine how hard it must've been to get him to cooperate but Elizabeth did a really great job with him! He smells amazing and is so so soft. I saw her talking to him and taking time to make sure he was doing okay. Will definitely be bringing him back to see Elizabeth again. read more

The staff is great! Very helpful inside the store. I took my puppy to get her nails trimmed and buffed, paid $15. Her nails were still very rough and a bit long. She was in and out within less than 5 minutes. There was also other dogs getting baths and their hair brushed and the staff was making the dogs cry so much. I will definitely not take my dog for any grooming services there they do not know what they are doing. I emailed the store about it and never received a response. This will be my last time coming to this Petco groomers. My appointment was at 12:30 and I wasn't received for another 5-7 minutes, usually when I get there they are happy to see my dog. I usually bring her every month and I've had no problems but after today I won't be coming to this Petco again. This lady with blonde and blue hair says hello and approaches her weird. She did the 5 checking point but she was so serious. Not one of the past groomers has approached her that way, she like cake up from around her without telling my dog or making sure she's calm and of course my dog didn't like it and tried to bite her. Keep in my mind my dog is the sweetest dog and lets any vet touch her and let them check her teeth. She doesn't bark at people nor bite them. Today was an exception she tried to bite the lady and she never does that so she must of felt a bad vibe from her. So the lady goes to her desk, sits down. What a moron. Comes back and tries to approach her around her stomach again and my dog tries again, and the lady tells me to cancel my appointment and try again tomorrow. This isn't a obedience class where I have to try again, she was just cold and serious and doesn't know how to treat dogs properly. When my dog has had no problems with any of the previous groomers there. She didn't even say "sorry" for making me waste my time coming here. I do not know what happened to the previous groomers but they need to hire better ones w| good dog communication and or bring back the ones from before. How is it that all the times I've been here all the groomers not once told me that my dog try to bite her? read more

My girl friend bought kitten food last night. She got home and realized that the price was wrong by about $10 to much. Price tag on the shelf said $11.99 but she paid $22.00. So we went there tonight to fix the problem. After speaking with the manager we discovered that the food did cost $22 but it was in the wrong place. So the manager went ahead and gave her the ten dollars even though we paid the correct price. We will continue to shop here and tell our friends. Good job petco. read more

In May I bought a pooper scooper from Petco in La Mesa and it has come apart as did the first one I bought. I replaced the first one because we had had it quite awhile but the second one fell apart in less than 6 months. Since I live closer to the Lemon Grove store I took it in to the manager to ask for a replacement. I did not have my receipt after 6 months and he could not find it in the computer either. So he was unwilling to do anything for me other than tell me to contact the manufacturer - which is Petco. I have 4 dogs and spend a great deal of money in that store and this manager was willing to lose my business for a $25.00 company brand item that I feel the store should stand behind. I called the La Mesa store where I bought it and talked to the manager of that store and she (Cara) said the policy would be to give me store credit without a receipt. She knew what company policy was and was very apologetic for what I had to endure with the Lemon Grove manager. For the sake of Petco, I hope they can hire people that know company policy and are willing to work with their customers. read more

I went inquiring about a "sucker fish" that is a bottom feeder that helps keep the tank clean. I've had my gold fish for 7 years. I asked the man of it would be okay to put them together, he said yes. A few weeks later I noticed my goldfish slowing down. After doing a bit of research on my own, they CANNOT be together as the sucker fish suck off the scales and slime off the goldfish and eventually kills them. Don't ask them for any advise. We were rushing 2 get in for dog food & harness he passed by with an attitude and said we close in 10min. Katie is fabulous with my dogs, both Pyrenean Mastiffs. One is a hyper, young, affectionate lunkhead, and the other is a 6 year-old who hates standing up for more than a minute or two unless he's playing with the young one. They can both get really stinky and dirty. Katie is a saint, dealing with their idiosyncrasies, and managing to get them both back to their fluffy, beautiful selves. I hope I never have to go back to bathing them myself again, because Katie has spoiled us all. read more

Being a first time dog owner, I am not familiar with what food to get, such as quality... Someone sees me in distressed, trying to calm down and distracted my kids as I am reading these bags of dog food. The woman, assuming it was the manager, didn't catch her name, came to my rescue.
