We were gifted a Belgian Malinois puppy in March of 2025, who needed professional training. We've had our pup since he was 2 months old and were able to potty train him and some basic commands at home, but out in public we couldn't control his fear and anxiety around other people and dogs he did not trust. We even had an unfortunate incident with my sons friend, a bite, at our home from our pups reactivity. We reached out to Strategic K9 after reading their positive reviews and with how easy it was to connect with them. After our phone call assessment, Kevin scheduled a time to come over and do an in home consultation. Our pup didn't trust Kevin during the visit and even lunged at him and kept barking at him. I thought adopting a puppy would be easier for me to train and they wouldn't have any "bad habits". I was wrong. After researching training and meeting with Kevin, I sent my 10 month old puppy, Quinn, to 3 week board and training with him. I adopted a 3-year-old Husky mix with zero manners. I knew I was up for a challenge with her walks and wanted her to be a well-trained dog. I searched for trainers and came across Strategic K9 Training. The first meeting was to see how our dog (Aspen) was and what we would mostly need to work on. I knew I had found the right guy when Kevin showed me what his dog could do. They offer different training methods that will best work with you and your dog. I chose the Board and Train for three weeks. There were two meetings with us and Aspen to show us what she has learned and to teach us how to continue this when she comes home. The Strategic K9 did nothing but make sure that my Kaytra boy and my family were at ease with the process as a whole. We had adopted him from his original owner and simply put, he didn't have a lot of the traditional obedience training not only to add he was also a very stubborn independent Shiba inu who really did what he wanted when he wanted. Had little to no recall, ran away from home multiple times, and would barely listen unless it involved his food. I reached out to Michelle and Kevin about our situation and we set up an initial evaluation, but it also goes towards any of the training packages they offer for your pup. Needless to say, at the evaluation I was able to learn a SO MUCH to feel even more confident about the at-home training we were doing on our own. I watched countless amounts of videos and read a whole bunch of books, but Kevin was able to dive in and see where we could improve. After the evaluation, they work up offers on the different packages they provide. Dog training is NOT cheap, and I shared my plans with the team on how though we may not be able to commit to any of the programs within the next or so, we were VERY interested and just needed some time to put aside the money. Michelle followed up regularly sharing potential dates that were approaching and when we were ready, we selected a date and planned for his onboarding fir a Day Train program for 15 days. Communication on all the forms, and via email/text were all very clear and concise. We had a strict work schedule and they worked around pick-up times for us as at times we would have to work outside of the regular 9-5. Each day, Kevin was open to having a small conversation on things they were working on and some input on training we could implement at home as "homework". As each day went on Kaytra was improving, learning and I could see the improvements as time went on. For us, each training tool (slip-leads, prongs collar, and e-collars) was all implemented as he progressed through training, it wasn't just slapped onto him from the start. We have a lot more peace of mind when it comes to him being unleashed around the home without any worries that he'll bolt out and more confidence with any chance of recalling him out of danger. Tips for anyone interested: - Do your research, there is a whole universe that revolves around dog training, really try and find the right fit for your dog, as the training will be a lifelong investment. - You get out of what you put in. You will have to ensure that you are doing your part at home and when you are out with your dog, make sure to give them their reps of training, and work on everything they train on. They offer lifetime park classes once your pup graduates, and that's and easy opportunity to get some more reps. Strategic K9 helped my dog and I so much, and I don't know where we would be without them. My boyfriend I are the owners of a sweet but challenging female Akita Inu named Cirilla, or Ciri for short. We also have an older shiba (zuko) who we are interested in getting trained with Strategic K9 since we were so happy with Ciri's results! It was difficult for me to take Ciri out on walks especially on my own as she was very scared of dogs+humans, and would often bark intensely/pull if dogs or people simply came into her view. She'd be so fixated on others that it was impossible for me to get her attention. Other dogs would run up/jump on Ciri with no warning when we walk, and owners get upset when she reacts negatively, so it was reassuring to hear from the team that Ciri isn't a bad dog, as many people have assumed the worst in her. I rescued a husky mix, Jaja, and didn't know what I was in for with him. We have another husky at home but Jaja displayed behaviors we have never seen before in a dog. I did the B&T 2 Week training option and it worked wonders! Kevin or Michelle will always respond in a good timely manner and you can tell Kevin actually cares which means good results! Collar was also given. Everytime I saw him he always made sure everything was done correctly for good results. He took care of Duke really well the 2 weeks he was away from me. He informed me almost everyday on updates on how he was which made me feel better since Duke is my love of my life. I personally have trust issue, but I trust this trainer! I did their 3 week day train program and it transformed my dog! He had a lot of the basics down already but they reinforced them and also helped with his socialization. I could never take him out to a (dog friendly) restaurant or in big public places because he was so overstimulated and anxious (tail down) and now he does great with all of it! We have had our pup back for about a month now! The night and day difference in his behavior wouldn't even be enough to explain how much he has changed. His training has changed our lives and his for the better. He was so hyper and would jump on people and wouldn't listen. I like the fact that Kevin and his family and staff use psychology to train the dogs it's not like doggy Boot Camp. The dogs are trained in a loving patient family environment!
