I'm only giving this a one star because I have to, it deserves ZERO stars! Groomer Kimberly shaved my mini bernadoodle's fluffy ear hair off today. I think she did it intentionally. And if it wasn't intentional then she has no business being a groomer! She claims her ears were matted. They were not matted to the point of needing shaving! I would not recommend her or the groomer Brittany to care for any animal. My dog left with no hair on her ears, she has scars, and I paid double of what I usually pay. I did not receive a refund, but I hope to since I filed a case with corporate HR! My dog didn't even have the groom smell! I'm devastated! I had 9 previous grooms at this location with another groomer (Jade) who no longer works there. She was awesome. This has never happened before and my puppy is only 11 months old! Kimberly and inappropriate Brittany need to be reprimanded and fired. I'm upset with Brittany because she got involved in my conversation rudely and unprofessionally! Please do NOT let these people groom your pets, their attitudes are bad and they have no empathy. read more

I went to this location last night. Saw two other customers walk in it was 6:58pm. They close at 7pm, I would be annoyed too if someone came in right before close, but other places I've been have been nice about it. The employee at the front let them in, but not me when I asked if I could get just one item. He just said "we are closed" I saw FOUR other people shopping in the back by the dog section. I just needed a bowl for my fish, would have taken me 1 minute or less than that AND they would have gotten $$$ from me. Well now my fish is DEAD. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. I am absolutely irate with this Petco. The first time I brought my dog in, the so-called stylist Keena literally CUT MY DOG'S NECK and didn't even have the decency to tell me. I only found out when I got home and saw the cut myself. The haircut was awful on top of that, completely uneven and sloppy. It looked like she did it blindfolded. Then the manager, Kimberly, tried to make it right by offering to groom my dog personally (and complementary) next time. I should have trusted my gut and taken the refund, but silly me, I gave them another chance. And it was the biggest mistake ever. My dog has a few mats, sure, but in the three years I've had her, no groomer has ever shaved her face and ears. Kimberly took it upon herself to do just that, for absolutely no reason. She butchered my baby's face and ears, leaving her looking completely ridiculous. When I picked her up, Kimberly actually said, "Well, I saved more hair than last time, right?" Like it was a joke! I am beyond disgusted. These people are lazy, unprofessional, and completely careless. They don't care about your pet, only getting the job done fast and moving on. My poor dog looks traumatized and nothing like herself. I will NEVER bring her here again. If you love your pet even a little, stay far away from Petco and definitely avoid Keena and Kimberly. I can't put my finger on it here, but I feel like this was a supermarket prior to it becoming a Petco. It is, by far, the oddest one I have been in. I honestly felt like there was extra walking to enter this location. I usually try to not come to one of these locations unless I really have to. But with the last litter box purchase it seems that the only place that is a brick and mortar store is a Petco, unless I go the route of online shopping. It has been hit and miss when showing up to a location in hopes to finding items for the litter box. Sometimes they have the items, but other times I have to travel further or order online. Walking in here, I didn't have high hope because of that. I was in luck this day, the item I needed was in stock and I was able to grab it and go. Well, go at a leisurely pace that is. When I got up front I was met with a lackluster employee who could have cared less if I was in the store or not. read more

Warmly greeted with treat in hand (for my foster dog Leia) by Terry as we walked in the door. Stopped in to get doggie shampoo, brush, and some suggestions about Leia's behavior. Thankfully for me Terry is the dog trainer for Petco. He patiently listened and observed Leia as I explained my situation. Terry saw that she was very nervous cause she wouldn't take any treats from his hand. He continued to give her treats going a little closer each time while explaining some other behaviors he noticed abt her. Next he walked me over to the shampoo section explaining the brands and formulas they offer. He looked and touched her back noticing she had a bit of dryness and recommended Oatmeal formula to help with that. Then he showed me brushes and recommended one for her size and hair also allowing me to test it out on her. He worked well and we both saw that Leia enjoyed it. Another PLUS!!!! Last we went to the treat and chew section cause I noticed how much Leia liked the treats he was giving her. He also explained and helped me pick out a chew which we hope would help with the behavior issues. I sincerely appreciate the time, patience, and PHENOMENAL customer service Terry gave during this stressful situation. This was my very first time fostering and caring for a dog. Terry's recommendations was a huge help. I highly recommend this location for your pet's needs and care. By the way, Leia finally (an hour later) took the treat out of Terry's hand. read more

I truthfully always hate leaving bad reviews but here we are. Yesterday I stopped by to pick up a few things. I noticed that no employees were really near the front end, none at the registers to note. I gathered what I needed and made it to the register. Check out was average and I went on my way home. I get in the door to prep the beef trachea I got to freeze yogurt and PB in for my pup, they rung me up and forgot to bad it. Ok whatever, we can overcome this. I call and the girl who answered said they would hold it for me bc she remembered me. She asked only for my first name, I asked if she would like my phone number and she said no. I wasn't overly fond of that, bc anyone really can have my first name. Today I returned to pick up the item. Again, no one at the front end. Finally after 5 minutes someone comes to the front and I recognized her as the girl who answered the phone yesterday. She checked but naturally the item was gone. I asked if I could just grab a new one and roll out. To which she then asks for a receipt, whatever say I should've brought it but it was THE SAME GIRL. I walk back to the spot while she goes to ask a manager. I found the one I bought with my name written and a wrong last name initial. An event that firstly should've only taken one visit and the second visit which should've only taken a few minutes, took 15 minutes. I will not be returning unless it's absolute necessity. read more

Second bad customer experience here... I walk in the door. Young lady vacuuming looks at me, "were closed". Me: "can I ask you a question at least? " Her: "no, we're closed" I walk out the door and see the store closes at 8:00. I look at the time... 8:02. If you aren't going to answer people's questions or have manners, at least just lock the door. Keep treating people like that and you might stay closed for good. read more

I ran out of dog food and my Chewy autoship order isn't supposed to ship for another month, so I decided to stop by this new Petco location on my way home from work. Every staff member greeted me with a smile and offered assistance. I found the purina pro plan and made my way to the checkout where I had another friendly interaction. I easily signed up for a free rewards card and immediately got $3 off my dog food. I am very pleased with the quick and convenient experience and hope they can keep it up. read more

An unwelcoming establishment is how I would describe this Petco. On multiple occasions staff have been notorious for being rude, dismissive, and just horrible at customer service. Staff act as though a simple question is a grand task to accomplish and answer. Not to mention how rude the younger staff at the front desk of the grooming is. I was late for my dog's grooming because I was told one time but it was actually another. The girl bluntly said my dog's appointment time then returned to her phone not offering to reschedule or anything. Overall always a horrible shopping experience here; I'd recommend going to petsmart or a local pet store instead. read more

Took my 7-month old pup to get groomed. I initially had an appt with Sara but got a text the morning of saying she was out sick. Since I was going out of town for 2 weeks the next day Kimberly offered to take him. I got back and everything was fine. Took him home and noticed a trail of blood on my carpet from the front door. Kimberly cut his nails past the Quick. Not one BUT FOUR. I called and she said sorry for not telling me. That when I picked him up, she was watching to see how he was and if the bleeding started up again because she put quik stop on it. She said once she noticed the one nail she stopped. I said no, you did it to 4 nails. She apologized again. His 2 middle toes look like when you cut a raw chicken bone in half. I had to take him to the vet where I broke down in tears after seeing blood all over their practice. Something I wasn't expecting to be doing after a grooming session. The vet tech confirmed that the cuts were really bad. My poor sweet super energetic boy has been sad and lying down since his grooming. I have been tending to his little wombs. Today we went for a short walk and he started bleeding again leaving trails in the street. I'm beyond disappointed at what happened, how it has altered his behavior, and Kimberly hiding what happened from me. read more

If I could give a minus 5-star rating, I would. I brought my Yorkshire terrier to the salon for grooming. The grooming included a bath and haircut. When I arrived to pick him up, he looked like a chihuahua, and I expressed this to the groomer. I'm furious. When dropping him off, I specifically told the young woman to only take enough off to give him a shapelier cut. Only take a little since I was bringing him back on December 19th. I even went as far as providing a picture of what I expected. My dog looks NOTHING like a Yorkshire terrier!!!!! I'm not sure why she cut his hair so low! Grooming does not equate to simply cutting the dog's hair as low as possible. I'm really floored. My dog is a part of this family and to have him treated so poorly is deeply hurtful and concerning. In addition, it's getting colder and for a small animal, this is more than a short haircut. I now must mitigate issues that otherwise would not have been prevalent. This makes me sad and tearful every time I look at him as this cannot be fixed. What's even more egregious is that I had to pay before I could pick my doggy up from the salon and even gave the young woman a tip! I've reached out to PETCO and provided all the information I've provided hear and hopefully they respond with more than an automated email. I guess time will tell. I'm so devastated. :-( PETCO, please retrain your groomers and/or ensure you hire proven ones. I'd hate to have anyone else have this type of experience. Horrible customer service! They did an ok job grooming my Yorkiepoo, (her 3rd grooming there) however they were unable to buff her nails since she is 10 months old and still jerks away too much. Since they only had one groomer on staff there was no one to hold her so they didn't do her nails- but they still charged me for the entire package that includes the nails!!! When I questioned the price, instead of crediting me for the next grooming or having her come in when they had more groomers, they completely disregarded my concern and demanded payment. Absolutely no attempt at making it right. Just "we couldn't do her nails but we can't separate that cost from the package so you owe us $99!!! Really, really rude and dismissive. They have just lost a regular customer. read more

My boyfriend and I just recently purchased a puppy and went into Petco for the basics. After a while of roaming the store we ran into Jinger, who was extremely informative, helpful, and knowledgeable. She offered us her recommendations confidently, she knew what it was that she was talking about. She never once made us feel like we were being bothersome. Jinger truly won us over and Petco will be our home store (I initially thought we were in let smart :) ) thanks Jinger, you're amazing and petco and all who visit is luckily to have you!! read more

I am extremely unhappy with this location. I scheduled a bath for our puppy and brought her in for her appointment. When I got there I stood at the counter for 15 minutes until someone finally came to check her in. They said she would be ready in a couple hours. After 4 hours and no call that she was ready i called the store several times and all I got was a recording that said if you want to make an appointment leave a message and we will try to return your call within 3 hours. So... I went to the store and asked if she was ready, I was treated rudely and told that they called, although I had no messages and no missed calls. When I checked out I asked to speak to a manager, in the middle of talking to the manager the groomer hollered something across the store and the manager just walked away. No, she didn't finish our conversation or even say, I'll be back at that point I just left as I felt that they just don't care. On a previous visit, I was 15 minutes early and the groomer had not shown up for work. I was told on the phone that I had to wait in my car until she came in as the store was not open yet (my appointment was the first appointment of the day) I waited in the car with the puppy for over an hour when she finally decided to come to work. After several bad experiences at this store, I do not see me going back. read more

I went to PetSmart down the street from this petco and it was the worst experience ever!!!! I was scared to take my puppy to another groomer, but I decided to take my baby for a grooming today and Brittany R did an amazing job!! She showed my puppy so much love and she really took care of him! When I picked him up, he smelled so good and he looked super happy. I highly recommend the grooming service at this Petco with Brittany, trust me... you will not regret it. I will definitely be back! read more

Almost every tank has dead or dying fish, also breathing rapidly probably a sign of high ammonia in the water. Tropical reptiles which require high humidity with no mist or dried up water bowl even dried out moss.. particularly dart frogs with the hydrometer at 20% when they require a minimum of 80%. Really sad to see the level of neglect, I hope this gets rectified. read more

I wouldn't give them any stars. I had an appointment with one groomer, since the last groomer did a hatchet job on Toby the last time he was there. Today we got no service, plus I had to take a half day off work, since I brought him to work in the morning, expecting to take to get groomed at lunch and pick him up on the way home. I got docked a half a day, with no grooming. I made this appointment with Brittany on July 25th, and no one could take time to call me about the change. Service was good here a long time ago, but, people here have become cavalier and I would not recommend Sarah, Edward Scissor Hand would do a better job. And looking at the review for the haircut done yesterday, I'm so glad I didn't get Toby's hair done. That was what he looked like last time. read more

AVOID PETCO VITAL CARE. I buy maybe $30/month of food and litter for my two cats, and when I was buying some things at Petco the clerk enthusiastically described some plan where you pay $21 a month, then you get back $15 every month and get savings on everything and $20 back for vet bills. It sounded like I would save $2 or $3 a month so I said yes. Big mistake. You don't just get back the $15 - for who knows what reason you have to log into their site or app and "transfer" it to your account, $5 at a time. The money you get back does not stay in your account; you have to use it within a couple of weeks or it disappears. It is very easy to wind up losing money on this "savings" program, which is unique in my experience. Clearly it's Petco versus their customers. I took my cat to the vet, came to the store and asked all the clerks how I could get my $20 back; no one knew and they said I should call customer service. I called customer service to cancel my membership and I was told I could not; it auto bills for a year and auto renews (they cancelled that part for me). The woman on the phone (who was very polite and apparently talks to a large number of unhappy customers) said she would be happy to explain the program to me, which totally misses the point. I don't want someone to explain their program; I want a program that does not require explaining. I spend twenty or thirty times as much at grocery stores as I do at Petco and I have never had to phone for an explanation; I just scan my card or phone app and I save money. It is impossible to lose money at the grocery store, which is easy to do at Petco. Whatever executive designed this seems to think that saving me $2 or $3 a month makes Petco as important to me as it is to him or her - it does not. Once my membership in this infernal program expires I am headed to Petsmart. read more

Horrible customer service. I booked a grooming for the first time here for my puppy. I booked it WELL in advance of her appointment date of 7/18/2020 at 1 pm. I received a call on that very day 2 hours before my appointment that they would need to reschedule because the stylist was not in. I was perturbed but agreed to a rescheduled appointment for the next day, same time. Guess what happens again?! The exact same thing. This is unacceptable!! How do they have their own policy indicating 24 hour cancellation for customers but they cancel in less than 2 hours, back to back??? How do they know that I wasn't already enroute and planned my schedule around my puppy getting groomed, which I DID!! She was Not apologetic at all, just offered to reschedule me for 7/28/2020. Are you kidding me?? My puppy is already furry and now I have also missed out on open days at other groomers smh. I spend a lot of money here as I'm sure others do and with such a competitive market, I will likely not spend another dime here due to this, and other small minor issues related to this Laurel MD location. I guess this may have been a blessing that they didn't get a chance to possibly mess up my dog, but still unprofessional and unacceptable. I will trim my baby myself in the meantime until I can get on another schedule which all are backed up due to Covid and recent reopenings. Smh. I loathe incompetence. read more

They did a fantastic job on my poodle. Followed my directions to a tee. I will definitely go back. Plus they didn't keep him half of the day. He was very relaxed when I got him which is a plus. You always hear bad stories about Petco grooming but my worries were clearly erased. The young lady who groomed him was very sweet and asked all of the questions needed. He realy liked her.
