I came here with my boyfriend on 3/21 around 1PM to look at cats available for adoption, and I never leave reviews but my experience on this day prompted me to write one. My prior cat had passed away on new year's this year and I've been so broken since. Anyone that has and lost a pet understands that pain. Amongst dealing with other personal issues, my boyfriend thought that maybe it would be a good idea to open my heart up to another cat. I agreed, especially since adopting would benefit an animal that needs a home. When we came to this location, there was only one cat available. Immediately I was excited since this cat came right up to the cage door, sniffed and tried to bunt me. My boyfriend asked a female worker if we could see her. She was a small asian girl with pale skin and glasses. I believe she was wearing a green shirt that day. It immediately put us off when her reply was "are you actually going to adopt her (the cat)? Because I'm not going to let you see her if you're not actually going to adopt her" Of course that put us in a weird position! Yes, we were considering it, but how would we know if we're a good match unless we got to meet the cat personally? My boyfriend responded "yes" for me so that we'd be able to meet her, and the worker then VERY audibly and visibly sighed, rolled her eyes, and walked past us while muttering something along the lines of "alright then". I ended up changing my mind without meeting the cat because I felt that we were put in a position to make a firm decision on the spot without being able to first meet the cat. My assumption (my guess, the worker did not tell us this) is that due to covid, petco would only want serious adopters to meet the cat out of their safety. That is completely understandable HOWEVER that could have at least been explained AND without attitude. Yes, we did have intentions to adopt, but with that being my first experience into trying to open my heart up again after my cat passed away, it seemed like a clear sign from the universe that maybe it's not the right time or PLACE. Other reviews have talked about how friendly the workers are here, but my experience has told me otherwise. I don't think one worker is representative of the business, but I don't believe I'll be coming back here. read more

I've been to the Petco in Pearl City a number of times. The store is clean and well kept, the personnel very friendly and helpful. However, there doesn't seem to be much stuff there for larger breed dogs. My boy is a 140 lbs Rottweiler and he needs big collars, strong leashes, and BIG bags of dog food, none of which I could find at Petco. But that's ok. For people with small house dogs and pets, I would highly recommend Petco, but those of us with the big boys need to look elsewhere. read more

I'm so excited that Petco is finally in Kaneohe! :) The store is huge and they have lots of stuff for all animals. I recently bought a little doggy bed, but for my bunny! She loves it ~ She even got a collar and engraved her name using the little ID tag kiosk they have in the front. It's really fun to use and interesting to watch it get engraved. Their salt water fish section has a really nice display. All the for sale tanks are set up with stands, and each aquarium with the sale fish have a little display inside. They even have ocean sounds playing! :D Prices are pretty decent, their toys and carriers seem to be on the cheaper side, but for instance, the rabbit cages are a bit pricey. This Petco is very convenient for me. Back when we had a pup, I got most of her sundries here. I had to knock off a couple of stars since their freshwater fish are in pretty sad shape, and staff are not always super knowledgeable. Honestly that must be expected at a big-box style pet store. One thing I have found is that most of the prices are inflated, possibly because of the Hawaii paradise tax. Just head to petco.com if you find something while you're there, and they'll match the online price. They also match Amazon as long as the product is sold by Amazon. The pickup is super easy if you order online. After a few minutes, they've pulled your order and you just bring in your e-mail, they scan it and check ID, then you're good to go! read more

When: Sat 1/6/2017 10:00 am Wife, our dog and I went into the Kaneohe branch of Petco to purchase a dog harness and dog chain...With so many choices to choose from we were a little overwhelmed and finally caved in and asked for help...In less than a minute, Sean came out to assist us. He was very helpful and patient. He explained throughly how the harness worked and even went as far as putting it over our dog. He adjusted it accordingly to our dog and explained how tight or loose to make it. We put the the chain on the harness and walked our dog around the store to see if she was comfortable...perfect fit and a happy dog and we were sold. Despite having ample parking in front the store, the drive-thru line at the neighboring Starbucks can back-up and block the open stalls. This store is brightly lit and clean, with a friendly staff...We will be back for doggie needs. read more

I used to use this as my regular go to place for both my dogs and my chinchillas. Slowly over the years their stock became limited and the prices became a bit unreasonable. I started to switch to their competitor off of Nimitz Hwy and although their location is not ideal being next to the homeless shelter, I'd take the risk given how much more beneficial it is to meet all of my pet's needs. I took my dog there to attempt to get her nails trimmed and was turned away because of her anxiety. What dog doesn't get nervous going to the vet or to get trimmed or groomed? To add to it she's a rescue we got from the Humane Society so we don't know what she's been through to make her this way. Instead of trying to accommodate us, they just said sorry, bye. That just got me to switch completely to the other place for all of my pet's needs. read more

My dachshund hates having her nails clipped! She will scream before she is even touched! Lol. We think she must have had a bad experience from a precious owner. We are her 3rd family but we are also her forever family. She is 6 years old and is my husband's princess. We have been to Petco before, only once though, in Honolulu. She screamed the entire time she was getting her nails clipped. I felt so bad for the groomer. So I was prepared for the worst when I took her in today. A new groomer named Kendall took our baby in and they were right on time. I gave her the quick heads up about my dog's anxiety and she said she would do her best. She got my baby secured quickly and got to work. My dog seemed to be ok with her hind toes getting clipped, and she barely made a sound. The groomer did take a while to clip her nails though. Part of the reason was my baby had super long nails that almost curled over, and the other was that she is still fairly new as a groomer. I didn't mind. I just wanted her nails to look nice again. One of the other groomers suggested that I get her nails buffed for $5 more. So I asked for it to be added on. After about 35 mins, my baby came out looking like a princess again. She screamed a little when her front paws were being trimmed, but I honestly think she was so curious about the other dogs who were also being groomed, she forgot about her own traumatic experience. Lol. Petco had a bad rap once, and people kept saying how they did terrible work. But I sat and watched how they cared for not only MY baby, but the other dogs too. They were very busy, especially on a weekday, but they were very efficient. My groomer apologized for taking so long but I told her that my dog's nails looked great and that she must have had bacon in her pocket (magic) which kept my dog from crying so much. $15 bucks was all it cost. $10 for just a nail clipping. $15 if you wanna add the buffing. (Or is it buffering?) We/I feel so much better now that my baby's nails are back to normal. And we'll be back regularly to keep them looking great. Thanks, Petco! read more

Came here a little early. They don't open until 9am and my little furry friend didn't want to stay in the car... The manager was so nice that he came out and gave Spikey a treat for waiting patiently. This store is very well organized and kept really clean. They have much more variety than the other Petcos and seem to maintain way better care of their animals. The fish tanks were some of the cleanest I have seen in large corporate pet stores. As a doting pet parent, I'm always happy to see more options in the pet supply department. PETCO is a worthy entrant into the market, offering a wide array of many items in a fairly small footprint. Their new store is clean, well organized and the staff is helpful. They have a large selection of dog and cat food, toys, and equipment. Their offering of rabbit/guinea pig merchandise is a real disappointment, though. And for those thinking that this big box store will offer discounts on pet supplies, think again. One problem in the store is the check-out area. They only have three cash registers, and while there were just three people ahead of me in line, it took a reeeealllllly long time to check out. Also, they have a pet i.d. kiosk, which is fantastic, but it's located right next to the check stands, so it creates a bottleneck of people using the machine and people trying to check out--poor space planning that could easily be fixed. Finally, PETCO gets bonus points in my book for being a host site for Hawaiian Humane Society animal adoption drives. Thanks, PETCO, for being a friend to animals in need! read more

6/19/18: this rating of five stars is for the grooming center only where we get my dog's nails trimmed. I will rate the pet training when we finish class after summer. I'm giving the groomer five stars for trimming my furson's nails only. The ladies there are so sweet and gentle to my skittish dog. In fact, we only trim and not buff because he can't handle the loud shaking buffer. They are super quick and accommodating. And it's like $10 to trim his nails which saves us from having the vet do it. We've come to enjoy Petco with all the animals and toys - it's become my furson's social and playground each week. Lol. I go to Kaneohe petco often. I have never felt so upset like I did today. I was waiting in line and I got waved by the cashier at the register. I got to the counter and placed my items to be rung up. A lady, who reentered the store walked up to the cashier that was helping ME and I guess she had a problem. Instead of the cashier asking her to wait, she had ME wait while she took the lady on the side to count her cans of cat/dog food. In the mean time, I'm still waiting while the customer that was in line behind me was be helped by another cashier and finished his transaction! You would of thought they would of helped me first. Where is customer service?? The cashier should of told that lady to wait while she finished helping me. Poor customer service!! In terms of the grooming service, the groomers are professional and always great. My dogs are finicky with some people, but not here. I love the location and that I can always just walk in. My dog loves this place. I have got to say, most of the things I've bought my pup for daily living, his dog beds, crate, treats, collar, leash, bowls, etc were purchased here. I haven't quite figured out the reward program and the staff is not that helpful with that. But hey are very nice to my dog. I love that he can come in with us. And he loves sniffing out the place. It's so tempting to buy every toy in the aisle and accessories. But I resist. Even still, it's good to know its there. OMG! Cheryl is so rude! I had an appointment for grooming but cancelled after talking to her. No way will I let someone like her touch my baby. Sounded like she wanted me to cancel my appointment because there were so many others who wanted it. She argued with me that they didn't have a fax machine where I sent my shot records. Finally, I had to cut her off and tell her to walk out and ask someone where the fax machine was. She needs a new profession or needs to stay off the phone. read more

I signed up for pet training at the Kaneohe location and would not recommend it to anyone. I bought a package in July it took 8 weeks to complete the first segment. Could not take the second because no one signed up for it. First I was told to wait another 2 weeks because no one signed up for it. I came in for training and the trainer looked surprised but I told her that she told me to come in 2 weeks later since I didn't get called otherwise I thought we had a class. So I asked if there is no class do I get a refund?. She told me I had to call customer service and she would let them know. Her call never happened I had to explain the whole thing to the call center person at customer service they told me they will refer to the refund group and they will email me in 3 business days. I don't understand why it takes 3 days for a refund decision it not a large purchase. The package was a couple hundred dollars. I got a call from a senior trainer asking about my problem again I had to explain it .He called their own customer service but got the similar answer. I don't blame him he was trying to be helpful but the call should have at least come from the store manager it's their responsibility. I guess it up to me to call the BBB to issue a complaint if I don't get a good answer. I get emails from Petco almost everyday about sales or services. Don't shop there if you can avoid it. Pet Smart treats are cheaper. I will not have any of my friend use their services. It's crazy that you can't get a amasser about refund until 3 days later. The general manager doesn't even call this location management doesn't care about customer service. I guess first Ill make a call to corporate then go through the next steps to get a remedy. But all of you should save yourself problems and don't use their training services especially from this location in Kaneohe. read more

I wish there was zero stars. Scenario-- so the ac is out (sh*t happens). Petco calls for us to pick up our dog whom is supposed to be getting groomed. I get there pull up, just so happens I see an employee (manager DON) outside. I ask, is there any possible way for you to pls bring my dog out to my car bc I have my baby with me? He says sure I can go check and walks inside. Then he comes out . He says no it's not in their policy. I said ok, I'll come in. I go in, ask if an employee can accompany me to my car and just put my dog in my car while I put my baby in the car. They said no. I said ok, can I pls speak to your manager. After patiently waiting for 5 min, i ask again can I pls speak to your manager? An employee says sure I'll go get him. Out comes Don, the manager whom I met outside tells me no he can't even accompany me to my car, it's against policy. I totally understand policy and procedures, but this is a case where it is the company's fault for causing me an inconvenience where they were supposed to provide a service. Not only did I not receive an apology but he was very rude. It was the worst customer service ever. Please save yourself the hassle and don't take the pets you love to KANEOHE bay shopping center petco. And if you see DON, don't even deal with him. read more

The aquatic department needs severe and immediate attention. I flagged down a worker (turned out to be a manager) because there were over 3 dozen dead fish in tanks (see pics). I was here earlier in the week and last week, only to see the same dead fish then in addition to over 20+ more dead fish?!? Wondering who loses money on this or if the costs are placed on consumers in one way or another? Maybe not now, but we probably just a matter of time before it is. Clearly no one has bothered cleaning the tanks and makes me wonder if the fish are even being fed daily?!? Is that why they're dying? Is that why they're being left in the tank? Terrible...not good practice and lack of care all around. I/We frequent this establishment and understand how fish can be overlooked, because they don't bark, they don't meow, etc. but fish are still deserving of basic care and feeding practices, as any other animal. TRIGGER WARNING : Graphic photos I am not one to write reviews but Jesus christ, the anger I feel right now drove me to expose petco for their lack of health & wellness needs for the animals. Petco sold me a sick guinea pig, which should not have happen in the first place! Save yourself from all the hassle and heartbreak and DO NOT SHOP HERE! If you really want a pet please go to the humane society, where they actually take care of their animals. I got my Guinea pig Charles, 20 days ago from this very petco. Everything was going fine until 3 nights ago when I noticed Charles seizure which was odd since they're really well taken care of and I did not expect this type of behavior from him at all. Luckily he got out of the seizure 5 seconds later but I was still concerned for him. I stayed up half the night caring for him and cuddling him, but his behavior was still weird. First thing I did the next morning was check on Charles & to my HORROR I found him with dry blood on BOTH of his nostrils and he looked so terribly weak. I called this petco to ask if they can take walk in's because it was an emergency & the person who picked up pretty much told me "no" I then asked if any other petco can take walk in's & he gave me the same answer. At this point Charles condition worsen, he kept opening his little mouth every few seconds. So I wasted no time and hurried over to feather & fur animal hospital where they quickly took in charles. The vet gave me the heartbreaking news that Charles had a terrible lung infection and was on oxygen. He was improving a little but the vet had no hope that he would get better without the oxygen mask. The only choices were for charles to get hospitalized, get sent home with antibiotics (with the possibility of worsening/dying) or putting him to sleep. While my husband and I were discussing on what to do, my husband called Petco once again to tell them about the whole situation and to see if we were able to get a refund on our guinea pig since it hasn't been 30 days yet. Petco's response was to bring charles back so they can put him to sleep, mind you, they made NO effort to try and help Charle's health issue they just thought it would be okay to put him down & give us our refund. As we were talking to petco, the vet gave me a call and gave me the sad news that my baby charles passed away on his own. The vet gave us their heartfelt condolences & Charle's little body wrapped up in a small towel with a flower in a box. Sad and angered, we went to petco to talk to the manager David, who apologized for how the situation was handled and tried to help us with getting a reimbursement on the vets bill but it was no help, we didn't get our reimbursement. All we got was a refund on the guinea pig. At the end of the day it just felt like we paid $182 (vets bill was 117 & guinea pig was 65 after taxes) for a dying piggie. This could have all been avoided. So again rethink before buying here because we loved and took care of charles like a baby. It sucks that we had to go through all that. read more
