Ok I have nothing against Petco as a whole. I loved Oahu Petco my favorite is ewa beach. Yesterday 01/12/2020 I order a no pull harness and I order a medium/large I got email saying they didn't have the size. I called my maui Petco spoke to a girl. I asked if I could get a medium instead because they didn't call me and see if I just wanted a different size. I worked customer service and if there was a a online order that we didn't have in store I alway called to let them know. They didn't called and even talk to me. Then I went to the store and I get to the counter and ask for my order and he brings me a order I picked up a while ago. I corrected the Petco employee and said the jacket was already pick up. Then I was trying to show him the order number to see if that helps. He told me I just haft to wait and b patients. He was acting rude and the attitude was unbelievable. He was acting like me asking him to do his job was to much and he was better then me. Then told me that it was canceled and I told him I called tho. He didn't offer to help me look for the right one or anything. I also had a $5 pet coupon and I asked about it and I was just asking to much. He try giving it to me I grab the wrong one and not one person could even order and I I walked out and said I'm calling the Petco corporate office. Petco corporate office told me he would make a report and gave me a $5 coupon for saying sorry he said sorry. As I was sitting in my car he walked out to his car just watching and smiling at me. Like he was happy he was going home. Like he was happy to treat customer like poop. Then after this I still had no harness for my fur baby so I order it again. Went back into Petco and then the employee started to bully me again it was a gang up bullied it was unbelievable. Then she said that I called him a ass***. She had 3 people none was her. Then she didn't even want to hear what her employee did to me. She didn't even care. some customer service. She treated to have me leave the store. As I was picking up the harness. Okey Oahu never treated me like that at Petco. Just because you don't like your job don't take it out on everyone else. The Petco employee thinks it funny to treat customer badly and wrongly. Another thing just because there only one Petco don't give you a reason to treat people like badly there no excuses. If you don't want to be there quiet and get a new job. We used to love to bring our dog here but ever since they opened the new store the grooming has gone WAY downhill. I dropped my dog off for a 2:30 appointment today and waited almost 25 minutes before someone helped me. We finally got her checked in and I made sure they had my cell to call when she was done. At a little after 6 I still hadn't heard from them so I went back to check and they said they still needed another hour. I have a yellow lab who only needed a bath how could it possibly take this long especially when I had an appointment. When I asked why it was taking so long the groomer (Ashley I believe was her name) got super short/sarcastic with me. Needless to say we won't be bringing our dog back here again. read more

I called this business yesterday to try to by or order a certain type of fish for my aquarium I purchased there years ago I was on hold forever then hung up on. I tried calling back several times only to be hung up again if I didn't live on the other side I would have driven down there and found a manager that hopefully gave a shit that their business was being run like that. I don't care how busy you are you can at least take the time to tell someone to plz call back when someone can help them. I tried to call for 2 weeks to make an apt to groom our dog. After 2 weeks I walked in a made an apt., but had to wait another week and a half for it. When we went for our apt. they said the groomer didn't work there any more and no apt for us. I asked why they didn't call to let us know and the girl just shrugged her shoulders. I have been a loyal customer and spent hundreds of dollars here over the years. However over the last few months I have noticed a marked decline in customer service and my experience yesterday with the grooming salon was the last "nail in the coffin". I waited several minutes to be acknowledged as I checked in for my appointment. I did not recognize any of the groomers- I assume they are all new. There was absolutely no warmth, no engagement with my dog and no recognition of my dog as a multi-repeat customer as was the norm in the past. Previous Petco groomers earned my loyalty by their friendliness and genuine love of animals. But for the first time I walked out seriously questioning the safety and well-being of my pet. When I picked up my dog there was no one in grooming and after calling out for someone in the grooming salon and holding area I went to the checkout area to ask the cashiers for assistance. The woman who finally came to retrieve my dog after being paged over the store intercom was clearly annoyed that I had interrupted her break. I am appalled that this Petco would leave animals unsupervised in a "back of the house" area - especially considering the death of a dog that was left in their groomer's care in June of 2015. I also want to point out that I saw several employees congregating in an office just off the check out stand, and the grooming salon, including the front desk area, was covered with pet hair. I have never seen it so unkept. Petco has lost a loyal customer. More importantly I urge other customers to be aware - its not the same place. read more

This store has a lot of stuff to help you take care of your pet(s) whatever your pet may be. They have things for dogs, cats, brids, fish, and other small animals like mice or hamaters. They no longer sell rats at the store which is sad because I love rats. They have pet grooming at the store but only for dogs they will not wash any other animals which is inconvenient. The staff is usually friendly and helpful. The pets that I have gotten from them seem to be well taken care of. They have whatever you need for a pet they really have almost anything. The staff is usually friendly and helpful. This store is pretty okay I only say okay because they need more groomers and a bigger selection of animals to choose from. But the only other compliant I have is they seem to lean heavily towards dogs. Dogs have the biggest selction. They have smaller sections for cats, birds, fish, and other small animals like mice and hamsters. I wish they had a bigger selection for the other animals besides just dogs. And I am not saying this because I am a cat person I am not a cat person I am an animal person I have a dog and cat I just think the store has more care products for dogs and not much for the other animals. read more

We just recently went to Petco to have our 2 year old dog taken in to get groomed. Mika was the employee that was taking her. She was very friendly and allowed our dog to warm up to her before taking her into the back. She did a great job on our Zorra and we will be going back to her as our groomer. read more

Petco groomers are in training. They keep the dogs 5 hours and do a messed up job on my poodles. I do not recommend.

I just got a new pomeranian/Maltese and she is 6 weeks old. Joe was so helpful and very knowledgeable. He not only helped me get everything I needed to start the care of my new puppy but he gave me so much info on caring for puppies and also helped me find the right products at a reasonable price. I got nail clippers, food, food dish, nutritional gel (which worked Joe! Thanks a bunch) I am very pleased with the help we got! My puppy wasn't eating and after Joe's tips, he ate today and is not lathargic anymore! I will definitely come back for food and other needs often! read more

After adopting our newest family member from the Maui Humane Society we headed straight to Petco to get all the goods. Sarah was extremely helpful from the moment we walked in the door. Assisting me with ordering an item online while I shopped around for other things. She even helped me shop! Grabbing things for me to see! So helpful!! Then at checkout Ruby went through my coupon book and took the time to find all the discounts that applied. Don't take your dog to Petco Kahului for grooming. All of the groomers are novices and they hack your dog's hair. It took them 5.5 hours to complete the job. The final result is that my dog looks more like a clown than a dog. They have "groomers in training" being trained by groomers that need more training. They have NO idea what they are doing and they are quick to admit it. There are plenty of other skilled and knowledgeable groomers on Maui for the same price. No matter how desperate you are...DON'T DO IT. if there was a zero star rating I would have selected it. One star is really too high. read more

Joe Hains You ROCK!!!! My husband and I went into the store one evening needing to buy dog food. I started looking at Harnesses for our dog because he's a puller and I thought that it would be the best fix for the pulling. Well my husband finds me and he's talking to Joe about which dog food would be best little did we know that we were talking a dog whisperer. He's amazing his knowledge about dogs surpasses anyone that I have met previously. We weren't sure about his breed and all we did was show him a picture and he asked a couple of behavioral questions and was able to tell us what breed he was. I then asked him about what we can do about his pulling and told him that we have a harness, well come to find out harnesses work against the pulling issue. Joe suggested that we get the type of leash that will tighten if the dog pulls. I was a bit nervous about it because I didn't want to be strangling my dog but he reassured me that it doesn't hurt them. Joe then told us about the training classes that petco offers and we jumped on it. 6weeks of training for I think it was around $149.00 we have only had 2 classes and our dog has already made leaps and bounds. I mean I thought that we got a dog to big for me to handle I'm only 5ft and he's going to be around 90lbs when fully grown. As soon as our dog pulls I correct him with a slight tug and he heals back to me. our dog wouldn't listen to sit or stay he didn't know lay down Joe taught him all of that in an hour and so much more. He even was able to get our dog to jump in the truck which he continues to do on his own. I can not wait to see what is next for our dog to learn. If you are having behavioral issues or if there is anything you would like to work on with your dog JOE HAINS is the guy have. I went to use the restroom today and it disgusting! A ton of black mold on the floor below the soap dispenser. Mold in the toilet. Paper on the floor. No paper towels. If I were an employee having to use that as my regular bathroom I'd be grossed out. Does the manager not see that? It takes time for that level of mold to build up. read more

Take your business anywhere else. I just bought a Betta fish at Maui PetCo. When I got him into a bowl where I could look down on him, I saw that he had Popeye, or exophthalmia, which is a bacterial infection. They sold me a SICK FISH. I called the store less than 3 hours from purchase time, asked what their policy was on selling sick fish. The man on the phone said that they have a 60 day guarantee policy on all other fish but not on Betta. I asked how about a 3 hour policy? He said no, even for a sick fish, and when I mentioned that it's a small island and they should support their customers and don't want a bad reputation, he said that I shouldn't be threatening him. THEN he said "we have no way of knowing the fish you return is the fish you bought", now calling me a liar!! I said I had a picture of the fish minutes after buying it that I sent my family. He told me to treat the fish (that's me buying medicine) and see if it gets better, there is nothing PetCo can do. So, selling SICK FISH, NO customer service, CALLING ME A LIAR, and trying to sell more product out of the whole thing. read more

We had an appointment at 10:00am. When we dropped our dog off, we were told it would be 2 and a half hours; 12:30pm. We went shopping, lunch, other errands and Costco last because we knew we'd have food in the car. We got back to Petco at 1:30pm and they told us it would be another 30 minutes. We live 25 minutes away so it doesn't make sense to drive home and then back again. The girl who is grooming him had groomed several times while working for another company so she knows our dog. And they say they're very busy. Apparently they over book their day. Not a good business practice. It's now 4 hours since we dropped him off and we have groceries in the car. read more

Not the first time I've had issues with this place. Last time, they said allow 24-48 hours. This time I allowed 51 hours. Tried calling again and no answer. Very nice staff, clean environment, and a variety of choices. Food and treats are very over priced compared to amazon and other pet stores. I have been taking my dog to petco for grooming services for two and a half years. We used to be able to just walk in for a nail cut but now we have to schedule apts (which is completely understandable for business purposes). However the grooming department NEVER answers the phone. It is best to schedule immediately after you finish your apt. The past four days I have called 5 times each day and no one answers. It took a week just to get someone in the phone. read more

Not a huge "yelper" in the least but getting a great experience is reason for starting! Just got our new rescue and knew we wanted him off of the science diet the shelter had him on but didn't know where to begin. Two staff members in particular stood out: Spencer helping in the dog food area was insanely knowledgeable about dog food. You can tell the training is there. Gave the ups and downs of every brand we asked about and more than that explained WHY. Explained the ingredients ok the bag to us and everything. That's the extra mile. Wasn't surprised after learning he was one of the managers. Number two- Kristin at the register was an absolute delight. Not very often someone asks how you are and means it. She seemed like a genuinely kind person and when a coupon wasn't working she helped sort it out instead of ignore the issue. Great experience all around. Covid measures enforced well too. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE! I have heard so many complaints, but my German Shepard needed a bath so I thought I'd try it out. They didn't start him for hours and ask for more time because a dog that came in AFTER mine wants a bath to. We also said to not cut his nails because we already did it at a salon yet they did, and they did a pretty shitty job at it to. They also said my dog "tried to bite them several time but they won't put it on his record," My German Shepard has never tried that, he's been to the groomers for years and they say he's the sweetest dog ever! I write this after being a Petco customer for over 5 years and having our (2) Lasa groomed there regularly over that time. Today I brought in our 16 year old lasa for a grooming. I had called to see if there were any cancellations and there was so i brought her in. Upon arriving I waited the 5-10 minutes to be addressed by the grooming attendant after starting to check us in she then me that she would have to check to see if she "could still fit our dog in" and then she vanished into the grooming area without any eye contact or acknowledgement. I get that she may have been busy and needed to move this along. I also understand that we are on an island where, while most people think Aloha flows like water, customer service however is a high commodity and not often found. Moments later a woman came out of the grooming area and abruptly listed / asked me a a litany of things the dog would have to be able to do or "we can not work on her" - such as stand for 2 hours, walk in and out of the grooming area on her own, have no medical conditions. I asked her to clarify and she repeated the specifications then said that "since the dog was old they can refuse treatment" then she continued, without taking a breath or letting me respond, by pointing out "that the previous manager may have broken the rules but she was not about to" . . . . At which point I silently left the building as to not engage with her. Ok - I get there are rules, I even understand why they might not want to or would refuse to groom the dog who is medically challenged. What I do not understand is the manner in which she felt she needed to communicate with a very calm, five year customer. The surly attitude or the rudeness she felt needed to be attained in her delivering the message was uncalled for and unwarranted. Did Petco do a good job for the past 5 years with grooming - yes I would say fair / standard - certainly nothing spectacular. Administratively they have always been a challenge - many times not being able to confirm appointments, waiting for 20 minutes to drop off the dogs, not being able to print a receipt in the store . . . I was able to over look this mostly as the attendants were nice and friendly. read more

I thought they would have lower prices since they ship everything in on containers...anyway, i went online to buy food for my pet because every time i would go into the store it was always out of stock. Really? Anyway, i tried ordering the same food they carry in the store, after going through the whole order all the way to check out, only to be told they cant ship it to hawaii. Really? WTF? I am giving this grooming department the lowest possible score. This is not my opinion of the whole store. My dog has been going here for a nail grinding which is labeled a walk in service. I call every time just to make an appointment but for the last two times I have spent several days calling multiple times a day and never get a response. Additionally I can't make an appt for a walk in service online. After not being able to call and make an appointment today I went in and they said they were unable to work with my dog for 3 hours. This grooming department needs at least more person working here just to answer the phone and greet/check people. Also a flaw of this location is while I was there I waited 20 at the grooming station and no one said anything to me because both workers were in the back room with dogs. My last point is don't come here if you don't have an appointment. They should not have the walk in option at this location if they can't handle it. This is the worst customer service for a company I have ever seen. I am extremely disappointed. read more

I recently purchased some water drops and plants for my aquarium. I waited about 10 minutes while the clerk helped another customer select fishes. I did not mind waiting and did not show any sign of impatience. What I did mind was that the clerk did not acknowledge that I was waiting (ie Hi. I'll be with you in a moment) and, rather than keep her conversation with the other client focused on the sale (ie product and care information), she began swapping personal experiences about her pet fishes at the expense of lengthening my wait time. The clincher was when it was finally my turn, she would not answer my basic questions and refused to provide the extensive assistance she offered to the previous customer. When I asked how many plants were in a bunch, she responded, "They're sold in a bunch." Huh? That was not even close to an adequate response. So, I asked again. She replied the same. This exchange is occurring in perfect English so I can not understand the reason for the misunderstanding except that she is refusing to help. So finally I ask to count the plants myself to which she agrees. I reach in the tank, pull out a bunch, and count 5 plants in 5 seconds. Quick and easy. She then offers to let me use a sink to wash my hands. I'm thinking she is getting closer to providing some real customer service now. Then WHAM...she backslides. The clerk tells that customers are not allowed to put their hands in the tank in case they have on lotions that could harm the aquatic plants/creatures. Well, its a good thing I forgot to apply a toxic coating of Aveeno skincare to my hands that morning! Why didn't the clerk offer to count the plants for me in the first place? I'm really baffled by her manner. I tell her that I am buying 2 bunches. Finally, I ask for help with finding the drops. She points to an area that is about 15 feet away. I walk over and find a whole shelf of drops. Okay, which one is the one I am looking for? I'm wondering how the previous customer qualified for the personalized and lengthy attention he received which I obviously was not getting. After a few seconds, she came over and pointed out the correct item to save her, I believe, the trouble of any further questions. A personal acquaintance of the clerk just showed up and I could see that the clerk was eager to end our transaction to go over and talk with her friend. I've shopped at the Kapolei PetCo for several years and have always received good service. I was pretty appalled at the lack of service at the Kahului location especially since my request/ inquiry were basic and easy to address. The service qualifies for a 1 star rating, but I gave a 2 because the cashier was friendly and helpful. I won't be shopping there in the future unless I absolutely need a product that is not sold elsewhere. read more

This review is concerning their aquatics dept: worthless. I will go in every once in a while to try and give them some business & I am disappointed every time. Special ordered take a rediculous amount of time to show up, if they show up at all. Their fish stock is always unimpressive. Fine if you are a little kid looking to buy your first (sick) guppy but for serious fish keepers there is NEVER anything of interest. I'm not sure if the reason for their ineffectuality is that they are somehow limited by their corporate masters or if the staff is really THAT out of touch with their customers but from a customer standpoint ... fail. read more
