I'd like to recognize a sales associate named JAZZ. One day I went into the store and it seems she was the only one working. She was the only one manning the cashier and there was a long line. She was very calm and collective. On one hand helping the people who had on-line order and at the same time ringing people up. Very pleasant after all that. I'd hire her if I had a business. Keep up the great work Jazz!! read more

I went to return a box (planted aquarium tool kit) that I bought last week that was empty. The store clerk Candace gave me an attitude about the box being empty. She stated I should've known when I bought the box that it was empty. Why would I think Petco would sell me an empty box, and the cashier that sold me the box didn't say anything when she picked it up to scan it. The manager Melo also gave me an attitude like it was my fault that the box was empty. The manager ended up exchanging the item but slid the box across the counter and rolled her eyes. I didn't know at the time, but later informed by my wife that the manager Melo said "It's pretty f*****g obvious" in front of my children as I was walking away. As a store manager, Melo needs to have better training on how to treat customers. Some of the most unprofessional workers I've ever dealt with. I had to leave a review here because my review was taking down on google. read more

They a bird I really wanted in quarantine. They understandably don't do holds so they told me If I was the first one in the store on the day quarantine was ends that would guarantee me the bird. So I requested that day off work and got there an hour early, was the first one in the store. But they had sold it to an employee before they even opened. Now they have signs saying Hawai'i isn't receiving birds even though Oahu Petco is still getting them according to a friend. Very disappointed. read more

COVID-19: Social distancing is not enforced at this establishment. Some of the staff wears a mask. All customers are not expected to wear a mask. It's optional now. Some of the staff also wears gloves. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is open and available with no limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing some stuff for my pets from this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is big. Plenty of parking for you to choose from. No need to stress out about parking. Store & Staff: The store is very massive, clean, neat, tidy, and organized. The staff here are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum. read more

Well heres to an updated review and I hope someone at petco reads this. Well I took my 2 dogs here on Wednesday and Irena was my groomer, never had her before. Well as soon as we got there she asked us a bunch of questions about the our two dogs, we told her that one of my dogs has sore joints to being old she's 14 well well. Then we told her about my other dog she didn't have any issues well she was poking at my dog and touching her all over the place and my dog kinda snapped and she said oh like that. I would be upset to if you were poking and jabbing at me and making me any kind. So she took my dog back to get her nails trimmed. At this point I went to pay the bill remind you I paid for 2 dogs. So when I got back to the grooming station my dog was done. She then takes my 2nd dog she was told she has sore joints she puts my dog on the floor and does whatever she was doing lifting up her legs and things well my dog had enough she snapped Irena yelled at my dog. We then was like we told you that her legs was sore. So she took my dog to the back and then this is where I got upset she looked at us through the glass window and said something. So then she brought my dog out she didn't even touch her other legs to cut her nails. She said yeah she's in some pain maybe you should put her on since supplements or she should go to a vet to get it checked out. Ummm hello Irena who the heck are You too be telling me this. She has never done that to no other groomers we took her to and we been taking her there for years. So then we were upset that she don't get her nails trimmed. she said did you pay already I said yeah she said would you like a refund or would you like a credit to your account. I told her I wanted a refund! . Very unhappy customer right here. read more

I went into Petco for cat and dog food as they have a great range, and I have senior dogs who need a little more oomph in their diet. I also buy my flea treatments there for all my fluff buddies. For some reason my rewards number didn't work so Melo at the register re signed me up to make sure I got a member discount on the flea meds. With 3 pets it makes a huge difference. Mahlo Melo! I always find the staff friendly and helpful here, always ready to listen and make a recommendation. read more

I have the Petco Premier service (grandfathered at approx $17/MO x 2 dogs) which gives me unlimited nail clips and teeth brushing as well as 20% off all food that I purchase. If you order online and pick up you receive another 10% off (if it's over $50) which when you have four dogs like I do, helps considerably with overall finances. The program gives you $15 credit for each dog you have on the program, which helps with my food bills. As for the groomers, you have to find the one that works best with your dog. I use Angelica and Kapeka because they do really well with my big Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They take the time to get to know my dogs and are patient. I occasionally will bring in my wild child rescue who HATES to have her paws touched and these two amazing ladies are able to get it done graciously. My fourth dog lets me dremel her nails reluctantly so I don't have to bring her in. I have found over the course of eight years of service here that the staff will change from time to time and the service levels with it. Patience is a virtue in Maui because service is NOT a top priority on this island, being that every company is short staffed, keep in mind that "this took shall pass." Wait it out and you'll have new people to work with eventually. read more

I like how they price match against what you find on their site, which sometimes can be $15 cheaper! I took my dog to the groomers once (she is not a fluffy dog) and I noticed they didn't Thoroughly dry/brush her and they cut her bum area very crooked. Sometimes they can be slow because they're short but they're always very nice. Usually are pretty stocked. We never really had issues with the fish we bought. read more

The only reason Petco is getting a 5 star review is because of one employee whose dedication to service and ability to empathize made me feel understood. My dog Koa recently passed away and I got a new rescue puppy (Reece) from the Maui Humane Society to rescue him after he was found sick and covered in flies last month. I was still processing Koa's death, but trying to move on and provide a new life for Reece, so I needed to come to Petco to get new supplies for a puppy since most of my house was built for an adult dog who's independent. I asked a couple employees for help, but they either didn't know or told me that it should be the same. I know this couldn't be right but luckily Casey was there that day. She could empathize with me because she cares for her own dog, and was willing to let me talk story for a little bit and let me reminisce about Koa, and how I was scared about this new journey with Reece. She totally understood, shared some stories about raising her dog, and got me all set up with all the supplies I needed. She embodies the Aloha Spirit and thanks to her, I will be coming back to Petco read more

My cat only eats Meow Mix Tender Centers. I normally buy this at Target, because it's always available. Since I'm at Target, most of my pet supplies are purchased here. Today I decided I'd like to go into Petco to check it out. We came in on delivery day so walking thru the store was really tight. There were carts full of items everywhere and it was pretty much in disarray. Employees were hard at work stocking shelves and very polite.. But it was just claustrophobia all over. There was also lack of signage so for my first time being in there it was frustrating to navigate. Since we're on the topic of disarray, clearance items weren't clearly marked and I grabbed this gator toy thinking it was part of the clearance. On my way out I noticed the proper bin it was suppose to be in. This added on to my disappointment with the store overall because I paid full price for a dog toy but I only own a cat. I could not find anything I needed. Petco either does not carry my cats preferred food/treats or it was out of stock. They stuff I did find was priced significantly higher than Target so I skipped on buying here. I did find a good deal on cat litter, its much cheaper than Target's pricing but Target offers free shipping so I don't have to drive from Lahaina to Kahului. Prior to coming into Petco I was also shopping on their website/app for a cat tree. Since they charge an outrageous price for shipping to HI I thought I'd do one of those pick up in stores. Nothing was available for pick up and the in-store selection/sale was not as great as the deals online. Off to Amazon... Altogether, as a store that markets specifically to pets I'm not impressed by the variety of products. The store layout is very cluttered and if it's you arrive on a delivery day, prepare to hit the shelves as you maneuver the place. Prices are higher than Target so if you are already in Target, just buy it there. read more

I thought this place had a good chance at providing another level of pet store. I've reserved and held back on reviewing this store until today. The only reason I gave three stars is for the service we've received from the grooming staff. The only gripe with this dept was leaving our pups in cages for most of the day. What gets zero stars is the customer service from the floor staff. I've had to wait for staff and managers to get done with personal conversations to ask simple questions. I'm talking about standing 2 feet away. Then I'm pointed in a general direction for items I know I'm about to pay too much for. Seems like an egg hunt when I go for specialty items. I have a membership and WAS a regular customer. The staff doesn't seem to grasp customer service. Today I went to buy an inflatable dog collar. There was one left. The box was ripped opened. I asked for a discount. The guy at the counter refused. So we're in a pandemic and I'm buying an item I have to put my lips on to inflate. I had to sterilize it before I could feel safe to use it. Is that not worth a $2 discount? Mind you it's way over priced to begin with. An xtra small inflatable collar for $24.99 for this little thing. It's like a neck pillow and I paid $16 for a memory foam airplane pillow. All about branding I suppose. All in all I'm done with Petco! read more

Last time I went Petco I was told they didn't have a public restroom even for paying guests. Which is weird considering that there has aways been a restroom. Charging wrong taxes Please review your receipts. I purchased dog food that was discounted to $16.99 per bag but when cashier told me total $18.20 to pay I question why tax is $1.21? It is only 4.167% from $16.99, it should be .67cents. Honestly it's not a big deal but it just doesn't sound correct. Check your receipts, this Petco store in Kahului is charging taxes on full price of product that is displayed for sale at discounted price. That particular dog food original price was $28.99 and it was displayed for sale at $16.99. Imagine you purchased product for $90 that is discounted from $100 but they charge you taxes on $100! I was apprehensive about bring our dogs here for grooming services, but the Yelp reviews were pretty positive, so what the hey. I called the store on Sunday around 9:30am to see if appointments were necessary for nail trims, but they said no and to bring them in after 11am. CHECK IN: The female associate who handles the phones, check in, and even does some grooming, was very professional and personable. One of the other female groomers was yelling at a dog being groomed to "STOP" and "KEEP STILL!" That was very odd, and the girl helping us was a bit surprised as well. Turns out the girl yelling at the dog was going to buff one of our dog's nails. I was thinking, OMG please don't make me have to make a scene in here if she yells at our dog, but she ended up being a great groomer. She even came out and talked with us for a few. I think it helped that our dog kept still, but that's something we didn't need to witness. NAIL TRIM: Our vet charges $20 per dog. Here they charge $10 for clipping, and $15 for buffing with a dremel tool. We opted for the latter. It took about 20 minutes from check in to check out. The nails were smooth and short with no bleeding. OVERALL: Fair prices and good service. I'd definitely recommend them though with some caution. read more

I come here all the time for flea meds and other things I can't find at target or other pet shops and I always price match with the online prices. Recently when I went on I had a cashier complain that I need to have all of the price matching ready before coming up. So I had screenshots, then proceeds to say they can't take screenshots and said the best option is the app. How am I supposed to use the app AND be ready at the register if I have to search up multiple items ? I've never had an employee anywhere complain about doing their jobs before. This interaction makes me want to order online from here on out which makes me sad cause we love walking around the store read more

They have definitely upgraded in appearance since moving to this location. They don't always have our selection of turtle food in stock though. Our aquatic turtle isn't picky either, but they never seem to have it in stock consistently. Signing up for membership is helpful for some of the cat coupons. Their clearance bins are where we try to find odds and ends for the turtle tank. Unfortunately the aisles are so narrow compared to the old store. The carts don't fit two side by side, so you definitely have to leave your cart at the end of the aisle. The have a great pet adoption program. I have heard great things about their groomers. read more

Their staff is generally very kind and obviously full of animal lovers. However I think they've recently gotten desperate with the shortage of workers in our community. They have a new admin in the grooming section "Erena" who has no business being in the store. She took half an hour to check my dogs in while insulting them, and then rejected one of my dogs for grooming due to a known injury. My poor dogs have never been apart, and they both had anxiety (the one who got groomed was anxious and yippy, and the other who didn't was mopey and depressed) as a result. I told her that my dogs already have a vet, but she tried to force me to go to a veterinarian in another area to cut my dog's nails since she rejected him from grooming. She was forceful and like a bully. I suspect that she gets a kickback for referrals there. Quite the racket. When I picked up my dogs, and during my conversation with another staff member, Erena was obnoxious and like a controlling helicopter (pretended to be working there although she was watching us and it was clear that she just had to stay out in front to listen to what I had to say), she inserted herself into conversation several times although it was unwelcome. I could tell that the staff was uncomfortable around her. When I asked another staff member, not in grooming, if Erena is always like this (I didn't even have to elaborate), I was told that yes, she is, with a telling/unimpressed expression. I later found out that she is a "manager." Wow, if I had to hire a manager, I'd be a lot more discerning. Erena is highly inefficient, seems controlling, has poor interpersonal skills, and is clearly unpopular with everyone else. Based on my interactions with her, I can't imagine she's ever been in a leadership position. read more

I had an appointment to take my 2 dogs into grooming. The day of the appointment they called me to cancel 30 mins before the appointment and reschedule for next week. That's fine things happen. But then I come in on the appointment day and they tell me that They can't groom my dog because she's not doing well on a leash. I've brought my dog into petco for grooming just 6 weeks before and they took her then. They said they just updated their policy. I just drove 45 mins to bring my dogs in and I'm like WTF?! First a late cancellation so I needed to make last minute changes to my schedule, then they flat out refuse to groom my dogs even though they've groomed them in the past. NEVER going to Petco again!! Unprofessional. I recommend going some place else so you don't waste your time and money. read more

I take my dog for a full grooming 2-3 times a year where she gets a full shave down, nails and the works. She's a big furry girl so I'm sure it's hard work. I've had this done for the last 7 years. It's always very difficult to get in for an appointment because they book out so far. My appointment before the mast I picked up my dog and she looked wonderful. Perfect hair cut, nice short nails. The groomer was wonderful. The last appointment that I had was not the same experience. Her hair cut is awful. He shaved everything but her head. So she looks like a bobble head. The shaving around her face isn't even straight. She has nicks and cuts from the razor. He also said that he couldn't get her nails because she would "pull her paw away." I had a discount coupon for 20 % off and I still paid $120 for the service. My dog looks so embaressing and has little dried blood spots . I won't be going to petco again. read more

This is one of the worst Petco's i've ever shopped at. I can't believe with all the poor ratings they haven't replaced the store manager. The return policy is the worst i've seen in retail. They can pull up your purchase with your phone number but they won't do a refund or exchange without a physical receipt. I have collars and life jackets that don't fit my dogs and they told me to donate them. My husband purchased dog food that was moldy and couldn't return it without the receipt. I always stop by here even when I don't really need anything in particular. I can always find something new and interesting. Everything seems to be clean and organized, its especially easy to find the dog food I need. They also seem to really care for the animals. I remember getting assistance from a girl named Kacey(?) -- a cute, little asian girl -- she was able to answer all my questions when a wanted to adopt a certain pet. With her help and expertise, I realized that I probably wasn't ready to commit to this particular pet. Which saved me a lot of stress! She was also able to suggest some products for my other pets. I had usually shopped at this location for my dog and fish tank products. I went to the store yesterday with my aquarium hood lamp fixture and light bulb, as thought my current bulb was burnt out. I wanted to test the aquarium lamp fixture w/a new bulb before leaving, so just in case the fixture itself was the issue, I wouldn't have to drive back to the store to then buy the fixture. When the fish supply staff member asked her manager (I think Carolyn) if I could use an outlet, she looked at me like I might was asked if I could eat fish out of the tanks. She said that "no, you cannot use any outlets in this store". When I said, so you telling me you are going to make me buy the light bulb, drive home, test it there, and if the hood lamp fixture is the problem, drive back here to return the light bulb and buy the hood lamp?" She looked at me and said, "that's exactly what I'm saying". When I asked if one of their staff could test it for me, she just said no. I said, "I can't believe it, what a lack of help" and started walking away, to which she yelled at my back, loudly, "you are not going to use any outlets in this store!!". So I called "The Pet Shop" which is where I will always go from now on. They held the light bulb for me, were happy to test my light fixture, and also let me know that if the fixture has issues, they can do repairs, so that you don't always have to buy a new fixture. In short, they were helpful and friendly, the opposite of Carolyn at Petco. Kudos to Devon there - you can call them at 877-3040. They are a kamaaina company, and deserve your business. I'll never shop at Petco again, the attitude of the manager was unapologetically unhelpful. If I could give them a half star, I would. read more
