DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE FOR GROOMING. I took my Pomeranian papillion mix here and they butchered him. I ask them to trim 3/8 inches off of him and they trim him down to 3/8 inches! They cut off all his beautiful feathering and buzz cut him! But left his tail. I was so in shock I have never had such a bad hair cut on him. read more

Petco Kahului - so they aren't doing online ordering for curbside pick up or in store pick up. I called and determined they did have the kitten dewormer I need for my 4 feral orphans. They did have 3 packs of Bayer dewormer in stock. The super unhelpful person I spoke to refused to to hold the pills for me in case someone came in before me and needed them too. Said it wouldn't be fair to that person. So since I cant order online for a hold in store or for curbside pick up, I need to drive 30 plus miles and hope they're still available. Really lousy customer service in these times of Covid. Wish I could do zero stars. I'm going to stop buying locally at Petco Kahului and order online after this experience. This review is kind of late but back in December, I took my 11 year old corgi mix for a grooming session. I was a little apprehensive at first since it was her first time to get professional groomed since we usually bathe her ourselves. However, I was really impressed by the great service and the care my dog received. She's always so hyper and full of energy so the workers thought she was a puppy but was surprised when I told them she was 11. She definitely looked like one after she was all done since they dolled her up pretty good. I'll most likely be bringing her back here. I didn some research of other places on the island and I'd trust a place like petco for professionalism and quality of service. The prices are pretty standard and what you'd expect, nothing too crazy. read more

Adam the store manager was EXTREMELY helpful the moment I walked into the door and with helping me with my dogs food purchase. I had a small issue and he was able and willing to fix it for me so quickly. I couldn't be any happier and could tell my business and happiness was important to him. Knowing he was about to help me with my dogs nutrition made me feel like he really cared about my dogs. He gained a lifetime customer in me yesterday with his service and willingness to help me. I love Petco but especially love the customer service I received from Adam. His cashier Kristen was also super friendly, easy to talk to, had a big smile and was able to help as well. She is the type of person that should be working at all customer service businesses, as well as having store managers like Adam. I recently rescued an abandoned stray kitten found near a dumpster. The poor baby was filthy, covered in fleas, and hungry. I grew up with a cat but it had been a while since I had to take care of a kitten, so I went to Petco in search of some help and guidance. Luckily, I was greeted by Casey, who helped me find all of the supplies and recommended foods/litter/care things I should have. She could tell I was nervous about the kitten but helped me realize that I've taken care of cats before and assured me I could always come back if I needed help or had questions. I left feeling confident and prepared to bring this new kitty in to my life and also left with a new human friend, Casey! I waited a little while to write this review so I could provide an update. Kitty is doing well, healthy, clean, and so so happy. The vet said she was only about 3-4wks when I found her! Her name is Gomi and I am so so so happy Casey encouraged me and helped me feel good about becoming a new cat mom! I've returned to this Petco since my first stop and am very satisfied with the service and selection of products! read more

WORST customer service ever. Never answers their phone calls. Today, a guy answered from customer service. All I wanted was for someone to help me get in contact with grooming FOR THEM TO ANSWER THEIR CALL TOO, instead he cut me short and told me "those questions are for grooming, THIS IS CUSTOMER SERVICE (with an attitude) and didn't even bother to listen to me & transferred me right away which lead me to wait on hold for nothing!!! I don't usually post reviews but they've been rude like this FOR YEARS!!!!!! I go to them because they're the closest store/grooming from my house. I was really hoping Petco could make this right.....ive been bringing my Australian shepherd here since 2014 and have been really pleased overall... but this situation is just nuts! In January 2018 petco offered a 30% off grooming coupon which i wanted to take advantage of. So when i called to book an appt i was told they had moved locations and that their computer was down and should call back friday when the comp tech could get the system running. I call back friday, "sorry, the system is still down. Call back next friday." I call back and again am told, "sorry, the system is still down. Please call next week." I asked if they could make a paper schedule and book me that way but "no, we dont want to overbook our groomers". So i asked them to take my name and number and call me. She said, "okay." The last week of January, im called home, my dad is dying. Mid February i receive a call to please them to make an appt but im still caring for my dad. Last week of February im back home but am ill so i dont call Petco until mid March. Mid March, i call and make an appt for 2 weeks later at the beginning of April. The night before the appt I get a call and am told the groomer is ill, so i reschedule for 2 weeks later. Mid April, i get a call the night before. Another emergency, groomer cant come in. Reschedule for first week of May. First week of May, i bring my dog in. Groomer ignores me while working on dog for 5 minutes and then comes out to say "ill be with you shortly". Ignored for another 5 minutes and then comes over. I tell her my dog has a cracked nail from last nite and she refuses to groom him. Which is fine but then she tells me he's matted on his belly like how could you bring him in like this. (My dog is not dirty or covered in mats) I tell her how difficult its been to get him seen and i bring him in twice a year to be shaved down but its not for lack of trying. She coldly reschedules me for next week. The next week, i get a call the nite before. Another groomer emergency need to cancel. I explain to the evening manager that i am ready to go somewhere else because of all this run around, it shouldn't be this hard. She is super nice and apologetic. Says a new grooming manager is coming in and because of the run around she is going to comp the whole appt and they will really pamper my 16 yr old dog at their cost. After talking for a bit, i agree to schedule one more time. She said she would make thorough notes for the staff and there should be no problem. What a relief! This week, i get a call the nite before. You guessed it, another groomer emergency. Kayla is very nice but i really want bang my head against a wall. I asked her how do i get comped for a grooming appt when i cant actually get my dog groomed???? Now i understand scheduling can be tricky some times but i worked as a receptionist and scheduler at a busy physical therapy clinic with 7 therapists and assistants. Its really a simple fix. You do not cancel on a client more than once. You write a big Do Not Cancel on this client's name and you reschedule some other client in their place. Anything less is just plain incompetent and unprofessional. At this point i feel they should pay me for my time and stress. Sorry to say i am going elsewhere and i am going to tell my friends and family to avoid Petco's grooming dept at all costs. read more

The only thing this place has going for it is location. I can completely avoid entering the heart of Kahului when I need to do an emergency pet-food run from upcountry. However, all that time, and driving-frustration saved, is spent waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting in line. I used to think it was a fluke, an off day, but once again today I waited, while watching... well, I don't even know.. the slowest transactions in the world. My time is valuable to me, and the inane approach of leaving the register to walk away with clientele is mind boggling when you have a long line of people, money in hand, ready to spend it in your shop! Their system is the perfect way to drive away good business. Either hire more help, or better train your staff. These corporate stores invading our island really leave a lot to be desired. Rude, arrogant and disrespectful is never ok. Denise the aquatic specialist was overwhelmed and took it out on me. Learn to respect your customers and not talk to them like your on an episode of Jerry Springer. She was immature, unprofessional and aggressive. This is a big pet supply store with a huge selection of products for your four-legged family members. They also offer pet grooming services. I have found everything from great brands of pet food to cute outfits and accessories for my pets. Dressing up the kiddos in funny and adorable outfits from Petco for various holidays or events has become a tradition. I just wish the in-store prices were lower or at least the same as the online prices. I have found that the prices in the store are much higher than the online prices, so I don't shop in-store very often other than for novelty items like pet outfits and accessories. I would stop in more often if the prices were more consistent. When I order my pet food and treats from Petco online, I can setup a repeat order and shipment that gets delivered directly to my door. This also ensures I don't run out of any of my pets favorite items, and I get free shipping and discounted prices. read more

I went to Petco today on my lunch break to buy a birdcage, soft bill bird food and some bone chews for my dogs. The girl that was outside the store informing of social distancing was the only person that seemed to be an employee that knows how to handle customer service. After being in the store for 20 minutes grabbing the bones, birdcage, but couldn't find anyone in the store to help with finding soft bill bird food. The young girl at the register is obviously inexperienced with customer service and following up. I left that store to never patronize ever. I guess this corporate company doesn't and will not get my business. I'd highly recommend going to the Pet Store on Wakea Ave. that's locally owned and have great customer service and employees that are very knowledgeable with pets and their needs. read more

Never have I ever wrote one yelp review before because sh*t happens sometimes at every retail/restaurant every now and then but this Petco has ALWAYS had the WORST customer service. Today, I reached my limit with them. Normally I would go get what I need and get out fast kine. Long story short my other half decided that we should get pet koi fishes yesterday (oct.5 2020). I grew up having fishes so I know generally how to set up one tank + maintenance of one but never had one Koi before, so we asked the guy who was working in the area about them or just general questions about size tank and he straight up told us "i don't know, do your research, like google it". I blamed myself for even asking because I should've known that they weren't any help anyways. So my other half and I stand in there on our phones for an hour doing our "research" that he told us to. When we picked out all of our supplies, it was time to pick two Kois and go home. We asked the same guy if he could get our fishes for us, he chased the koi in the tank stressing them out and on top of that he dropped the Koi ON THE FLOOR. You should've seen my face because my jaw dropped but since I was wearing one mask, he just handed me the bag and walked past me. I told the cashier that he was very rude and what had happened. She told me if the fish die, "just bring your receipt". Fast forward, I woke up this morning to the fish that he dropped on the floor died, the second koi looked very stressed so I knew he was going to die soon too. Sad and frustrated I called Petco, I waited 7 minutes and no one answered the phone. I had already took the dead koi out the tank and into the trash out. I drove to Petco and explained what happened to some new employees I haven't seen before and the tall hāole guy was nice but seemed new or didn't have enough experience to help me so he called another guy but of course very rude, never talked to me face to face. Long story short, I never got my refund nor did I get one koi replaced. I HATE IT THERE unfortunately my puppy husky needs food and etc. so I'm forced to still go but believe me when I say, they're f*cking useless. read more

A couple of months ago I bought two fish from this petco store. I come to this petco quite often. Today, I came back to get more filter cartridges for my tank. My boyfriend & I were just looking around the store talking to each other (trying to remember the size of our filter. One really rude employee, the guy who works by the fish tanks, decided to come up to us and yell "Don't touch anything on this cart, it's all overstock. These items are already on the shelves!" First of all, we did not touch anything on the cart. It just so happened that we stopped infront of the cart to talk about the filter. Second of all, if you have items ON THE FLOOR, you have to expect customers to look at them! How would customers know it's not for sale? If it's on the floor?? I work in customer service myself, I know how the job gets and I know we all have bad days. However, in customer service, it's never ok to yell at customers, ESPECIALLY if they are not being rude or not doing anything for that matter. Bad day or not. Probably my last time coming to this petco. I'd rather support The Pet Shop on Hana Hwy. read more

I need to start off with: I like petco as a whole. I've always been really happy with the products and service while in California. Since moving back home, I am really disappointed with the level of customer service at this location. They are almost always short staffed with a long wait time. We were on repeat food delivery and had canceled the order twice (due to being placed on an Rx diet) and kept getting the food delivered to the house anyway. The first time we tried to return the online automatic food delivery, it took almost an hour for them to figure out how to refund us. A manager had to be called up front because there was a price discrepancy. Ok fast forward, we get ANOTHER 40lb bag of food, and try to return it again stating the dog is not on prescription food and we CANCELED the order TWICE!!!! She tries to refund us and the "system for returns is down" so she tells us to come back later. There is now 4 people behind us (super obvious with common sense that you'd call for back up cashier by now ffs). No, she doesn't call for a back up, she tells us to move on the side so she can get the line down and then she will continue to assist us. THE LINE KEEPS BUILDING AND WE WAIT ANOTHER 30 minutes. She helps again and again there is a line behind us and only now does she call for cashier back up. RIDICULOUS. An hour later, we can't even get a refund, only store credit and are advised to call corporate if we want the money back on our card. Ummm, YOU GUYS screwed up. To cancel an automatic delivery TWICE is enough times!!! So the moral of this story is: DO NOT ORDER REPEAT ORDERS ONLINE. read more

Not a fan, would rather spend my dollars at the smaller family owned pet stores on the island. Big store but not a lot of staff to help you. If you are going to shop here to save money just order online. If you want someone to recommend a diet for your pet goto Kehei Pet Suppy. read more

The best groomer we have ever had for our 10 year old standard poodle we found here at Petco. That being said, we were desperate because our regular groomer was injured and unavailable and our poodle was overdue for a groom. We used another today and were absolutely aghast at the judgment that was made! Our poodle's 'puffs', or 'boots' , 'pom-poms' that she has had (around her ankles) for over 8 years were completely shaved off on her hind legs only! Mats?! We understand mats, but if they were so matted as to have the audacity to shave them off, we should have been called and warned or asked permission. The additional hair around the ankles of many poodles' feet are a breed distinction-they were originally grown to protect the ankles from cold, as poodles were bred for retrieving in the cold outdoors. Yes, this is warm Hawaii, but the point is that the puffs are a distinctive trait for our poodle as well as adding to her balance and stateliness. It seems so ridiculous to have to write about this during such a horrible time for so many people here in our ohana of Maui. But I must review and express my disappointment for what happened today at Maui Petco. Fortunately, over time, these puffs will grow back-though it will take awhile. Such a shame because a simple call could have prevented this. Wake up people- please communicate!! This was unacceptable. read more

I brought two Shitzus in for a shampoo. They charged $12 for nail buffing, which I didn't order, $4.95 extra for supplies, on top of the original price. My pup had just arrived from the mainland not too long ago and I needed to find her a groomer here on Maui. I was nervous because I have had bad experiences in the past and didn't know anyone to ask for advice on where to go. I normally take her to a boutique type groomer so I was unsure about coming to Petco, but it was close to where I live and also is where I shop regularly for her. I was EXTREMELY impressed with how her grooming went. They were flexible with me in scheduling and got me in the day I called. Andi (not sure about spelling) was amazing with her and did an AWESOME job grooming my dog. She explained everything that she did and even took care of the fact that my dog had irritated skin. I will be taking her back there and I will be requesting Andi. She was extremely knowledgable and honestly my dog's cut looked better than it has at some overly expensive boutique groomers. She is awesome! read more

I see some people are throwing hate Petco's way... But so far I'm singing the opposite. I come here every month to buy dog food. I don't think their prices are high, if you are trying to buy the best foods for your dog. I mean, yes, they are high compared to the mainland, or Costco, if you are buying generic dog food. But my pup has always had food allergies, and I have to get the organic hippie shht. Everyone is nice, and helpful if you have a questions. Keep your eyes peeled, you can save big when certain foods and treats go on sale. While waiting for my dogs to get through the waiting period when I moved out here, I got incredibly lonely and would come visit the birds on my lunch break. Finally, one fine day, I came home with one. My boyfriend was NOT at all thrilled, and after a day or two over their two week return policy, I came into the store, and delivered the sad news. They were understanding, and took back my little Lilikoi, and were able to find her a new permanent home. read more

I think the pricing is comparable to other Petco stores on the mainland. Yes this is a chain, but the employees are all local and super friendly and helpful. I especially love how they help to support Maui Pitbull Rescue's dog adoptions - that is an amazing organization! Claire in grooming is wonderful and my two dogs love going to see her. Big Joe is the best!! My boyfriend and I walked into Petco looking for a toy that our dog would not destroy, considering she has torn apart every "indestructible" toy that exists. Joe was walking by us and asked if we needed any help, as we stared blankly at a tire chew toy and a classic Kong. We explained to him how our dog destroys ALL toys and we needed something that could hold up to her craziness. Joe basically dropped a knowledge bomb on us for the next half hour. He was not cocky, or judgmental, which I appreciated because some dog experts can be a little rough around the edges with people. He listened to everything we had to say, and gave us advice on literally EVERYTHING that we asked. You could tell he enjoyed helping us out and other customers as well. Side note: Joe has trained dogs for practically his entire life and has so extensive experience with how to deal with energy, boredom, aggression, pulling, doggie phobias, etc. Petco is definitely lucky to have him, and if you see a tall guy named Joe, ask him to help you! He should be getting Petco training certified (as if he needs it) sometime soon. Whenever he does, make sure he is your dog trainer if you signed up for training classes. Besides my review on how awesome Joe is, which is a big 5 stars, the rest of the staff is a little less....spectacular. Some of the girls are texting behind the cashiers, but some of the other employees are helpful and very friendly. The store has everything you'd need for a pet store. Food, toys, kennels, leashes, harnesses, airport kits, calming treats, beds, blankets, etc. It's always seemed very clean and even when the lines are long, they move pretty quickly. When I lived on Maui this was always my go-to for all things dog. read more

This rating is for their grooming...Been there twice and both times the girl did a pretty good job (4 stars for that) but both times they tried to up charge me for things I never requested (0 stars for that!). The last time they tried to charge me extra $15 because the groomer "took more than 15 minutes"...are you kidding me!? And that was in addition to the $75 for bath and cut. What kind of scam is that? I refused to pay it and manager gave me a dirty look and bad attitude after that. I'll be going elsewhere next time for sure. read more

Had the rudest customer service there just now. Got into the store 30mins before closing. I was trying to buy some freshwater fish, asked someone for help in aquatics but the lady I asked went home and no one came by for 15mins. I ask again and another guy that helped me told me to wait, then when he came by aquatics tried to rush me, looked stressed and sighed when I tried to pick the fish I was trying to buy. Kept saying "dude" to me and gave me the worst attitude ever. I ended up just not getting any fish because I was so repulsed by the guy's attitude. Why they just didn't say aquatic sales were closed for the day is unfathomable to me. If you want friendly service, this is not the place to go. Customer service needs serious work or guy needs a mental health check. Won't be returning again. read more
