Unfortunately I cannot recommend the grooming service. Upon picking up my dog after getting a full service grooming, his ears looked dirty and he still had matting on his belly. After getting home I've had to finish cleaning his ears and fix the matting myself. read more

2 stars for the lack of customer service. I brought my dog in and he had an accident, a horrible accident on the floor. I was quite embarrassed and couldn't find any paper towels near by to clean up the mess he had made. So when I finally found an employee to ask for paper towels, she just told me the "there are clean up stations by the cat litter" Like I really know where that is! I mean, come on, you can at least point me in the right direction or grab some for me. I'm not asking you to pick it up, but at least help me get the cleaning supplies. Lies about Pricing, Laughs in your face! Rude, Unprofessional, Poor Veternarian Skills! We brought our 6 month old kitten to Thrive Affordable Vet Care inside Petco because they were friendly over the phone and offered a reasonable price $125-$175 total for spaying. We made an appointment and were told it would be $10 for the exam and then she could be spayed after the results from blood work came back. We showed up for the appointment, greeted with a smile, and taken back to a patient room. A vet tech came in to talk about our kitten and ask questions. Was she eating? Has she had her rabies shot? Then he kindly said the total today would be $55 for blood work. I assumed my husband may have only written down part of the information, thinking $10 for the exam and $45 for blood work, so I paid. He took her back to another patient room for the blood work. When he brought her back she had a bandage on her leg. I asked what happened and he said she blew a vein because the needle was too large. He said she would be fine and that I could take the bandage off when we got home. I was surprised because the VIP Pet Care in Pet Supplies Plus I took her to previously never had that problem. VIP Pet Care had seen her twice, once for her 3 in 1 set of shots and a second time for her second set of shots, rabies shot, and chip implant. Kristen Cleary, D.V.M. (veterinarian) then came into the patient room to ask if I had any questions and to confirm drop off and pick up times. Then we left. Thrive Affordable Vet Care called 3 days later to let us know her results came back and she was ready for surgery. We came back 2 days after (per the scheduled appointment) to drop off our kitten. Upon arrival we were asked if our kitten has fasted in the morning and we said no, she ate a little breakfast (1/4 cup). We were told that she was supposed to fast and that their would be a $25 extra charge for a shot for her naseua. We were not happy about this because we were not told by Kristen Cleary nor the vet tech about fasting 5 days prior nor from the employee that called 2 days prior to confirm the results of her blood work. We left snd came back several hours later to pick her up. Upon arriving my husband was told the total charge was $214 for the spaying, naseua shot, pain medication, and cone for her neck. We were shocked! We were told $125-$175 total when we called to make the appointment, paid $55 for blood work 5 days back, now another $214, for a total of $269! My husband became firm and said, "No, we were told $125 for spaying and that's all we're paying. We were not told our kitten was to fast and we were not told pain medication, naseua shots, and neck cones would be extra. You're holding our kitten hostage and requesting we pay more than what was agreed upon." The employee laughed at him and he replied, "This isn't funny, we're not paying $214 today." The employee went to the back of the facility behind closed doors for several minutes. She came back out with Kristen Cleary, D.V.M. (veterinarian) and two vet techs to speak with my husband. The employee said they made a few calls and would accept $150 total. He paid and left with our kitten. When he brought her home she had another bandage on her leg, two shaved front legs and her entire stomach shaved! The last time I took my kitten to get spayed there was a small shaven patch on her tummy and neither of her legs were shaven! I will NEVER use Thrive Affordable Vet Care again! I will tell everyone I can about this awful experience! read more

As a fish enthusiast, this location is the only one I will go to for fish. (That includes Petsmart as well.) I'm constantly seeing sick or piles of dead fish in other stores' tanks - it's atrocious how they seem to think that's ok. The selection of fish at this location is rather good for a Petco, and the tanks are expertly cared for. Ask for Adam - he is extremely helpful, and he's quite the expert in aquatics! (Most pet store employees like to pretend that they are experts, but this guy really is. :) ) read more

The remodeling is great, but the employees are awful. I went to get a mouse for my snake, & the employee forgot me immediately. I waited for 10 minutes for help before going back to the counter, where the employee behaved as if I was disrupting his day. After another employee finally got the mouse, I went back to the counter and that same first rude guy couldn't ring up my order even though the SKU was clearly marked on the box. The other employee kept referring to me as "Friend," which was really disturbing. It's not a Coen brothers movie; speak like a normal person. read more

Brought a $110 dog clipper only to find out later that its good for 4 cuts! Cannot buy new blades for this clipper. I'm retired and $110 is a lot of money plus I still need clippers. I offered to pay the difference to get a clipper that takes blades and they said no, you're stuck with it. So I said I'm not leaving until something is done and that's when security was called. While I typically enjoy all Petcos visits, this location in particular is something special. You can tell the staff really care about the pets and enjoy their job. The store is highly organized. They must have the best dog clothing selection of all the Houston Petco stores I have been in. I highly recommend this location to everyone in the area. read more

In the area and needed to pick up some new water bowls for my furry babies. It might be hard to get out of the parking lot when it is busy, but it seems like there is a decent amount of parking at least. The store looks a bit dated, but had a large enough selection. Make sure to sign up for their rewards card to get coupons, and you can also rake up points to earn free gift certificates. Those $5 freebies do add up. read more

This is a pretty ok pet store. It has your basic necessities for non exotics. The people are friendly and helpful. My only two complaints are that the prices are significantly higher than some places (namely Wal Mart) for some of the same items, and that together, me and a store clerk could not figure out some details that I needed about an item listed on their website. read more

I used the self wash for my dog and it was nice. I didn't give 5 stars because the tubs really need to be cleaned desperately. There was hair in the drain that looked years old. Quite gross. The whole area just looked unkempt. But they kept ignoring it and putting out clean towels. They were really nice and answered my questions. I feel bad that you feel the need to bash a store/company for something that isn't true. A picture can say a thousand words and this probably cropped photo is just that one word/ opinion from ONE person. I have worked with this specific store manager and she is the most kind hearted animal person I know. She's trains her employees to know how to take care and handle these animals. Seems to me that you are upset that you can not afford and care for these birds as you keep repeating how much they are. If one cannot afford an animals then they do not have the means to care for such animal. I would trust this manager with my own animals. Heck I have! This manager is an amazing person and treats every animal that's comes into her store as if there were her own. You have no right to bash petco or this store. If you have a problem do not be like a child and display your business online. The birds by the way are Georgia and Chiquita are in amazing hands if they were "ill" they would not be on the floor and would have been taken to a vet asap. Don't bother getting your dog groomed here. Very nice staff, but my dog ended up with an uneven haircut and they didn't even trim the nails on his front paws. Appreciate that they gave us a discount due to scheduling snafus on their end with the original appointment, but at the end of the day I need a groomer that will give my dog an even haircut and actually trim all of his nails. Grooming Services used to be good, but no more. Every time I go in there, there are new groomers who seem less experienced than the last. The past 2 cuts my dogs got from them were choppy & uneven. I had a very bad experience today with the rude groomer on check-in, so I took my dogs & left without them getting groomed. I was a regular customer, but between the bad cuts & the bad customer service, I definitely will not be going back! read more

My experience has been really positive at the grooming dept in this store. I have taken my two dogs there for some time for nail clips and then baths. They are older dogs, one large and one small. I have been really happy with the service and want to compliment Fred the groomer. He is always careful and very kind to my dogs who used to be anxious but now like him and are more accepting of getting groomed. Fred knows what he is doing and he obviously loves animals. I've also found the staff responsive and friendly. read more

I was Very disappointed with the groomer at this location she asked me a series of questions when I dropped off my dog to be groomed one of them was has she ever had a seizure before and I said a couple years ago they thought she had a seizure but no she didn't. she decided to refuse to groom my dog. I went to the store manager and he sided with the groomer after I clearly explained what was said. I spoke with corporate office and they understood my story and apologize and even had the manager call me to also apologize. I told him why would I even risk leaving my dog with any one if I knew she was epileptic. she would be going to the groomers at her vets office. It was upsetting for him to undermine me and to side with the groomer was beyond me. I have had issues with this female groomer that claims she's the supervisor for the grooming Dept in the past but I kept giving myself excuses reasons maybe she's having a bad day it happens to anyone. She is not very friendly and slow to respond to when your at her desk. If she's in the back she has no clue soneone is there I even suggested if you can't hear customers or see customers if you're working on a dog in the back why don't you get a bell. My partner and I took our dog to this petco to be groomed. When I picked him up he seemed okay but when I got him home and took him to use the restroom he began yelping in pain. This continued for several day, he stopped eating and could not jump up on the couch without crying in pain. My dog is very hardy and young (4 years old) so you can imagine my concern over what had happened to him at this petco. I called the store twice to see if anything had happened to him while under their care. Nothing was noted in his file according to store employees. I took him to the vet and she said a muscle was pinched/torn in his back. An injury associated with being jerked around or moved suddenly into an unnatural position. My dog has a long torso and short legs so you have to be careful when picking him up. He still has trouble jumping on and off the couch now but it has gotten better. I don't know what happened to him while at the groomer but I do know I won't be taking him back there. read more

These people are fools. I have two puppies that j want to have trained. I spoke to the dog trainer and she told me I had to have one adult per dog to be in the public classes. I'm a single person so I don't have a partner to go with me. She suggested I schedule private classes so I wouldn't have to have a 2nd person. When I went back to actually schedule the classes, the old trainer had quit and the new trainer wouldn't stand behind what I had been told. But he did tell me he would schedule me for a public class where I was the only student. And that's different how? Just now, he called me to change the time for the first class. And oh by the way, you have to bring a SECOND PERSON. I explained why that wasn't possible but tough, that's the rules. WTF. Get your story straight and stick by it. Don't jerk your customers around. Don't schedule a "public" class with only one customer and then change the time. I wouldn't buy a thing from these people or let them train my dogs. They are fools. read more
