I walked into Petco looking for some fish for my pond . The aquariums at the time was out of many fishes I was looking for. A staff member asked if I needed help and was very friendly and told me about the recent sale and that's why didn't have a larger selection. I did select about 12 fishes and his customer service was excellent. I should have gotten his name to give him proper credit on this form. I will be checking in again to see the selection of fish again in a few weeks. I've noticed a few places sell aquarium fish from home and will also check on them. read more

Entered aquatic area to buy fish and supplies. Two tall Caucasian guys were helping one customer. We waited. No one acknowledged us. One of the tall male employees ditched into the back. No one still has acknowledged us. After waiting and seeing workers moving pallets or walking around I ask tall guy w messy man bun in aquatics if there was someone else who could help us. He got indignant, "What do you need help with?" "Buying fish." "I'm the only one in aquatics blah blah blah." " I only asked if there was someone else who could assist us." More rude indifferent comments about people on the resister or doing something else. Then he turns his back to us and says, "Sorry about that!" to the guy buying one goldfish loud enough for us to hear as if asking if there was someone else who could assist us was AN UNREASONABLE QUESTION! Heres a concept PETCO. Train your employees to at the very minimum acknowledge people OBVIOUSLY WAITING. And if you have two employees already in a dept train them not to do a disappearing act when customers are present & may need help. To the tall rude guy with the man bun apologizing to another customer when someone just asked if there was another rep who could help is a total DICK move. No wonder your store has such poor ratings. The Hilo store does not allow customers to use their bathrooms. Kristin and Sierra were rude about it. Kristin did not seems to care at all. Kaliko helped my aunty because she could see that it would have been difficult for her to go to the mall bathrooms using a cane. They need to put up signage that states no bathrooms to customers. I think it's rude! We all have dealt with Covid so what's the whole point, no "Aloha"! I'm sure if it was their relatives they let them use the bathroom! Don't buy fish from Petco. Their tanks are all connected, so all the fish live in the same filthy water. So they die. They also are cruel and treat badde (mosquito) fish horribly. Put in tiny cups with no oxygen, no heat, hardly any water, and no room to swim. They are starved and crazy, of course, to don't put these in your tank or pond either. PETA is "on" Petco and Petsmart for these horrors and are trying to make them stop. Save your aquarium and stay AWAY. This is my second try. Just now I was asked to add some words to my review. We were there yesterday for a pet adoption event. What an amazing manager. Clearly he does indeed love animals and want the best for them as he did everything he could to help the event go smoothly. I always wonder if these corporate pet stores really care about the pets and animals. I can tell you that Petco Hilo really does. They have banners showing their financial support to local rescue events which is heart warming for everyone to see. The store was clean, well stocked and everyone working there was helpful. For whatever reason, the Kona Petco does not support adoption events which is really sad. Everyone who came in to the store loved saying hi to the animals before shopping, especially the kids! This Petco location is amazing compared to the PetSmart/Petco locations near my house. There is an amazing selection of animals, such as fish, cats, birds, guinea pigs, mice and a lot of other animals. The prices are kind of reasonable, and it is pretty cool that this location is inside the mall compared to other stores. I overall really like this stores selection of animals, and I wish that all the PetSmart/Petcos this much of a good selection. read more

TL;DR : Petco sucks ! I called and spoke to a man regarding the $18 pricing difference between their online "pick up in store" price and the actual price in the store. He promised me it would be very easy to get a price match, just come back to the store. My friend drove into the store and was told he cannot get the price match because he did not have the app open on his phone (?), despite that I had printed all the information out for him. Wow! No service for a half hour in the store. Then I tracked a person down, I had about 10 items already picked out on my own for a new fish tank I wanted to purchase. The older man said I will have someone come and help you. So I waited. I got help, and it was for a 20 gallon tank that comes with the stand and cover with light all together for $129.99. The women that was helping me grab all the items needed for the tank but could not find the new light and tank cover the goes together. So, she said they have the display cover and the box that goes with it and that would complete the set for the $129.99. I told the lady that the display with the light that has been on in the store? She said yes, unfortunately. I said, would I be able to get a new light? No she said, it would be the display cover as it is. I said but it's a used cover and light but I will pay for new items but get used stuff? She said you can wait till next week when the new stuff comes in. I said I would take it if it's at a discount because it's not new. She asked the manager and they were not very far from me. He talked to the Associate, and didn't talk with me about the situation. She told me he said they can't give a discount for the displayed items. Some options were to buy it at $129.99 with used, displayed items or wait till next week when there new stock comes in. I guess they didn't want to make a customer happy with being fair about selling used items and want to inconvenience them by having them come back next week if they want it. Very bad for business. I put back all my items for the 20 gallon fish tank I wanted to get and all the items that go with it. They lost $400 today and more importantly, a costumer for life. There is a good reason for the 2 1/2 star, they have already before my review. I lost an hour of my time and dream for a new fish tank to upgrade my fish as they have had babies today and I need one more tank for my new fish. What happened when the dog went to the flea circus? He stole the show! All jokes aside, flea circuses are no laughing matter, and I wouldn't wish one on my worst enemy... Actually, that's not true. Flea circuses are an excellent method for tormenting one's worst enemy. Unless your worst enemy is a spider or frog, in which case you'd simply be delivering them a tasty snack, which obviously is not the goal here. Anyway, Petco. I've had a fine experience shopping here. They've had all of the supplies that I've needed and have a much larger selection than anywhere else in town as far as pet supplies go. I guess their staff not doting on people constantly has been sort of a sticking point for some people, but I've never had a problem. It's not a huge store and things are pretty easy to find, for the most part. If there were one issue I had to pick out, it would probably just be that things can be a bit costly, though probably no more than it is to pick up pet supplies from, say, a Target or Walmart. Other than that, it's been fine. All in all, I appreciate there being a store that carries all the pet stuff that I need, located in a convenient area, and that I can get in and get out of quickly. We haven't always had something like that, and it's not something I take for granted. They're good and if you need things for your pet, it's not a bad move to just pop into Petco. read more

**UPDATE** Petco's store is organized in a way where cat food is separated from the dog food. I went in and purchased a bag of food from the cat aisle, only to come home, empty it out in my storage container, feed some to my cat, and find out it's actually DOG FOOD! I looked at the ingredients on the side of the food bag before I purchased it, but didn't think to check if it was made for cats since it was stocked up in the cat aisle! Now I'm very upset. I changed my first review from 3 starts to 1 because that is the lowest it will go! This store has been a complete mess from day one and I'm very inconvenienced. Especially because I'm trying to stay home due to this corona virus outbreak and now I'll have to go out again to get my cat proper food! This is the last straw. I'm never coming here again! This store is very disappointing and frustrating! Thought I'd go back again and give them another chance. Time after time I've been disappointed with them whether it's in store pet care or having no employees in sight to help me. No more chances. --------------------------------------------- While it's nice to have a huge selection of pet needs, Petco is severely lacking in their in-store animal care. There are at least two dead/dying fish in almost every other aquarium (which are always over stuffed with fish, dirty, and they're never fed), sad and unlively rodents also over stuffed in enclosures living in their own poop. This Petco is impressive when it comes to selection of foods, toys, pet care items, cleaning items, enclosures, etc. However, they're extremely disappointing when it comes to in store animal health and care. If you're knowledgeable about fish and rodent care, and you walk into this store, you'll be slightly disappointed and sad at the condition some of them are living in. Also their customer service sucks! I had to sign up for a pet rewards THREE times already as the first two times apparently weren't done right or even at all. I'm not even sure if the the third time went though since I haven't gone back to check yet. Over half of the staff has a "ugh, don't bother me" attitude. They need better customer service training. Also, there's never any employees to be found! If you walk through the store, you'll only see one or two cashiers, and maybe two other store staff helping on the floor. It's so hard to get any help! The other day I witnessed another customer wanting to buy some aquatic plants but he couldn't find a single store employee to help him! So I have been doing the repeat delivery. Not sure why the website can not get my dates right. Last week they brought my order a week early. I cancelled the order . They did not refund my money. I had to call after waiting for my delivery on the date that it was suppose to be here and it was a no show. I called they are shipping my order because the dewormer was out of stock at the store. Really.. you couldn't deliver the dog food and ship the dewormer???? So I called and spoke with customer service and was no help.with the order but after asking 4 times to refund my money from the prior order he finally said that he would start the refund and told me it would take an estimated time and would I prefer to order another bag of dog food and have it delivered tomorrow. I said no I am not being stuck again with 2 full bags of dog food. Yes this is the second time I have been filled with dog food. Now I have to drive 18 miles to Target to get dog food. My dogs have been without dog food for 2 days. I feed them some human food to pass the hunger. The customer service really didn't care. Didn't offer anything but to send another bag of dog food @$75. Went here with my boyfriend and our baby kitten picking up supplies after her vet visit and the workers were rude and they had zero interest in helping us. So I went to Petco today because I needed to buy a cone collar for my boy. After going online and seeing they had what I was looking for I was relieved. Online, the price for the cone I needed said $13. In store I'm aimlessly walking around trying to find what I needed and looking for an employee to help me but no one was around. I stand in line for the checkout just to show the employee what I was looking for and where to find it. He showed me exactly what i was looking for and I proceeded to stand back in line. Upon checking out I notice the price is completely different from what I seen online. I ask why the price difference to which he replies "its due to shipping cost" that made no sense to me at all because online it showed that the Hilo petco had the item I needed for that specific price. Had I purchased it online and scheduled pickup I would have paid the $13 I anticipated so I dont understand how this person can justify a $10 shipping cost on something I'm purchasing in store? I truly hope the person who helped me today will see this because I am almost certain he was the owner of the store. I met him and his husband at the airport the day I moved here from Oahu and they told me and my wife they were opening a petco in the mall. Sure enough they did that, congratulations but to rip people off because you can or you're the owner is not right. Either fix the website prices to match the in store prices or don't advertise that the only petco in hilo has the item for what I see online. Went in to get can cat food. A bald man was stocking and I asked him where I could find it. He said "over there" (didn't point or even look up) and I said where "over there" he then said at the back of the store. Then he said "what..do you want me to take you over there?" I told him no...not with that attitude. I couldn't find the brand I was look for so I stopped at the cashier and asked if they had it. The young man was nice and said they don't carry it anymore. I told him about the rude guy that I spoke to and he said "Ya that's how it is in here. I said you mean no customer service and he actually said yes!! (first time using online ordering option).. got a notice on my phone that order was ready for pick up..perfect timing too. Went into store with my phone so I could show verification.. 1. Store has no designated area for online pick-up. Had to wait in line. 2. Associate that was at counter called someone else to assist after i had waited in line.. 3. John the manager came and demanded i have a photo i.d. to pick up a 4 # bag dog food, even though i had my phone with verification notice. 4. My husband and I visit at least every other week and we pick up all our dog food and essential care items and use the self service dog wash which is amazing and so affordable! The staff always remember us and will give our fur babies extra love and attention (and even a treat sometimes!). Yea for Petco! Every time we visit this fully stocked, friendly store it makes me happy ! Really appreciate that they have dog adoptions through Aloha Illio and other non profit groups . Very rude manager. Placed an order, waited for a good 20 minutes. The app gave me the "On my way" option. I clicked it and headed over. Waited for a few minutes, the manager came over and asked if I was picking up I said yes and told him my name and he said no, there are lots of orders before you, wait for an email before you come back. I don't have my email in my car......so I go home, 45 minute drive home. Check email, the email came through not two minutes after I had been there. I called the store to cancel the order and complain and the manager tells me that it was him that had met me at the store and he was not rude. I told him yes he was and he argued that he wasnt, so I cancelled my order and hung up. Never going there again. read more

I placed an order for pick up later at the local store. I got the email saying my order was ready. The email that the store sent, said to go to the order pick up register to obtain my purchase. This was conveniently located at the front of the store next to the entrance at the first register. There was a clearly marked sign for order pick up and that's where I stood. I waited and waited, there were 2 associates helping folks in the "regular line". I figured as soon as there was a break they would help me, WRONG! Reina the store associate continued to help folks who stood in line after I got there. Then when she finished up she asked me if someone was helping me, when I told her no, that I was here to pick up an on-line order she told me I needed to stand in the regular line. Then she went on to help 2 additional customers who were all there after me. When I got to the front of the "regular" line, it took her about 10 seconds to get my item. She was rude, did not thank me or even apologize for the confusion. NOT buying products there again.
