I have mixed reviews of this place. I normally find that with Petco, their store prices differ from their online prices, but they always offer price match on that. The cashier I had was very patient to price match the items I bought. It was also close to closing time so I really appreciated her patience - that is good customer service right there! Another time, earlier in the day, there was a pile of dog poop in one of the aisles close to the entrance. I had informed one of the workers about it and she did nothing. In fact, she was not even doing anything at all. I figured she could have at least reported it to another worker to clean up the mess. read more

I wanted to buy 5 small goldfish for 45 cents each to keep in a 10 gallon tank but she asked me to have a 30 gallon tank to keep 5 such tiny goldfish and Ms. G left me alone and went to sell to the next customer. The most bizarre thing, she walked away from me at first after telling me all about how to take care of them, then had an attitude trying to make me pay for all this stuff when all I wanted was the lizard. Tried grooming services here for my dog. The groomer cut into my dog's nail while attempting to trim them. As they were bringing my dog back out to me to say the service could not be completed they let go of her leash. She took this opportunity to jump straight over the extremely short counter and run around the entire store with a bleeding paw. Then they complained to me that someone now had to clean up the blood around the store. They then informed me that my dog would be banned from this store location for causing a problem. The only problem was that the staff hurt my dog and then blamed her. We left the store with my paw still bleeding. read more

There are a lot of pros for Petco, as follows: -Large store -Very clean -Great variety of products/services -Friendly and knowledgeable staff -Conveniently located The major con is the pricing there. I was a regular customer there for years, I always bought my cat's food there. I give her Blue Buffalo food, which is one of the best brands. However, I was paying $27 for a 5oz bag there. One day I stumbled on the same brand/bag in Target and it was $16! It's a terrible price gouge and it pertains to all the products I bought there, including litter, cat toys, a carrier, and wet food. Just left Petco on Washington Blvd., and I am not satisfied at all. I took my 5 month old Yorkie Poo "Neno" in for grooming with Mac (the groomer) this morning which suppose to consist of bath, hair cut, & nail clipping. They ended up charging me an extra $10 for what they called a facial which I did not consent too, he smells weird and does not look well groomed. Upon booking his appointment price was $35.00 and I ended up paying a little over $50.00, Plus a Tip for the groomer. I certainly will not trust my pet with this location ever again. Oh, and let me not forget to mention that the appointment was scheduled for 10:45am, Mac told me Neno will be done in about 2/3 hrs. It wasn't until 2pm that I got my pup back. Made a reservation with Vetco and took my puppy here to get some flea meds because she has been itching. They are so unorganized and nobody knows what's going on acting to busy they told me I need to go to regular vet. I been to Vetco 100 times for this same type of thing but today they said I couldn't be seen by the vet. Mind you that's all they sell is stuff for skins and vaccinations. This is a great location. Started coming here when I got a new puppy and was very surprised and how knowledgable and helpful everyone is. The store has a lot of great products and selections. This store also has training. I decided to give it a go since the trainer was so passionate and helpful. We are currently in week 5 of 6 week course and overall have really liked it. The pup is really learning new things and finding her place in the family thanks to the training. A few tips if doing training bring shot paper work on day one, and treats! We headed here to get better dog food and cat food, instead of ordering it online. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, and the store was clean and well organized. We checked out the snakes and birds as we walked around. The employees were helpful, but not annoying. Really good prices, and selection. My puppy Harley loves her too. Every time I go I get unsolicited advice about my dog. I take her there as a treat to meet people and pick out toys on rainy days when we can't go to the park. But every time without fail I'm barraged with unsolicited advice about trainings and vaccines. I am training her at home and she is sweet and not aggressive, and she is well behaved. And I give her whatever vaccines the vet recommends. I just want to enjoy shopping with my pup without being pitched puppy classes (pretty insulting to me as her owner.) and being asked about what vaccines she has and being told what she needs by people who aren't vets. So rude, and frankly I'm going to look for another location. To the staff at this store- mind your business!!!!! I walked into Petco 8.4.2019 specifically to schedule a bath for Butterscotch, my 3 year old orange tabby. One week prior Butterscotch was treated at his vet for fleas and to my knowledge was doing pretty good after treatment. The young ladies at the grooming counter were made aware of our situation. I was told that Adam is the only one who grooms cats and his first availability was 8.16.2019 at 5p. I informed the young lady of my commute (work, home, Petco). She stated that they had a 15min grace period, no worries. Great, appointment booked. When the big day comes around myself and Adam, the groomer, are literally calling each other at the same time (5:02p). I immediately go into notifying him that I'm 3mins away and didn't take into consideration that Butterscotch does not like his carrier, etc. Instead of acknowledging my apology with explanation, Adam goes into how this is his last appointment and how he started not to take it when the young lady at the counter consulted him for permission. He also went on to tell me that the grooming could take 2-3hrs and they don't usually provide a grace period. Once I pulled up to Petco (yes, I pulled up rather than parked to ensure Adam didn't throw even more of a fit) I introduced Butterscotch and all mentioned above. I finally parked only to re-enter finding Adam inspecting Butterscotch's coat. Once I approached, Adam stated that he believes Butterscotch has a skin condition. I asked what kind and he stated that he had seen it before but was not sure of the name. He was, however, sure that he would not groom Butterscotch in fear that he could make things worst. My questions and his fake answers went on for about 15-20 minutes. A $70 vet exam later (with free bath once they heard my Petco horror story), Butterscotch was exonerated of "Dr. Adam's" false accusations. I don't even want to imagine what he would have done to my baby in my absence if services were rendered. This Petco in Lansdowne just north of 695 is good for what it is, one of the great big box pet stores. The one stop shop for food, grooming, adoption, litter, supplies, etc. really works for them. The service has always been quick and friendly here. Having rabbits, we only use them for bulk (veggie) dog treats and the occasional toy or other treats. Being a large store, they carry the brands they carry and that's it. We prefer specific brands for our animals so we stick with the small guys or online suppliers. read more

Yippee!! I have found a dog groomer in a Petco that does a great job and isn't too far from downtown and most importantly, ISNT BOOKED FOR TWO WEEKS! (I'm talking to you Hair off the Dog. I've given up on you!) Dennis was busy with another client when I walked in but he took the time to secure that puppy and come out and have a great convo with me and my dog. (Who knew my dog needs sunscreen?!) When I picked up Bella a few hours later Dennis came out and gave me an update on the day they had together and she looked great! She was trimmed exactly how I wanted her and there were no nicks or unevenly shaved areas. I will be back and recommend to my other dog moms! read more

My pup has been groomed here several times. We like Dennis a lot who does a great job, even with my big golden retriever who is tough to wrangle. They have even done a good job at fitting us in at the last minute and on weekends. Also, every time we come in the staff sneak my dog extra cookies off the counter. They're all so nice! They have a large organic section--better than the Petsmart in Catonsville which is closer to me. They also have healthy fish. There's nothing wrong with this Petco at all. I prefer PetSmart because it is cheaper. Yesterday I went to Petco because my baby beardie ran out of crickets so I got 40 of them from Petco. Looking in the bag it looked like a less amount than my 36 I usually get from PetSmart but I didn't think much of it. I got home and fed my beardie, today he only had about 3 left which had me confused because 36 usually last me 3 1/2 days (he usually eats about 15 a day). when I call the store and tell them about my problem and that I had no more they refused to even let me get 10 more for free and claimed "my beardie May be eating more since he's growing) which he has not. Very happy with this place. I went in to buy my daughter a new fish and left with 4. The store was clean, friendly staff and the fish looked healthy with a wide variety and all labeled clearly. Our experience was great! I wish I could remember his name, but the employee (dark hair with a funky pointy/clear earring) made my daughter's night. He shared his knowledge and a few neat facts about some of the different fish and then when she found the one she wanted he had a fun time trying to catch the exact fish she wanted (and had already named). She became his helper (holding the plastic fish holder) and I let her pick out 1 color or each fish. Great guy for a memorably fish shopping experience! read more

Staff are helpful and friendly. I knocked stars off because of a bad Vetco experience, not Petco. Dr. Michael David did not perform the basic vital checks to make sure my dog was healthy to receive the vaccines. I asked what one vaccine was for 2 times before he told me...which was after he gave the vaccine to my dog to which I immediately responded that he didn't need that. No one weighed my dog, took his temperature, or his heart rate. The receipt with my dogs vitals and vaccines given was printed and electronically signed before I stepped in the van. My dog and I were in the van for no more than 30 seconds. I questioned these vital numbers and Dr. Michael David insisted he could feel the animals heart rate and temp...he reluctantly admitted he hadn't been checking the last 10 animals. He wasn't checking the animals because he wanted to leave for the evening but had no moral conflict with falsifying the health documents of these animals. I WOULD HAVE COME BACK ANOTHER DAY but staff insisted it wasn't too late with over an hour before the clinic closed. I asked other pet parents if they had taken the weight, temperature, or even looked at their animals and they all said no and then saw the vital numbers on the print out. The animals have to be checked out to make sure they are well enough to receive the vaccines and to make sure it's not too soon for the vaccines. The first service listed on my receipt is "Vetco Wellness Examination" to which everyone claims they don't perform. ALSO - I was over charged and Vetco is advertising their prices as lower than they are charging. I requested a refund and no one would work with me or call me back. Do not waste your time and go to a trusted low cost clinic. Your pet's health is far more valuable than these people's time. The staff couldn't wait to get out of there. As a result, I contacted Vetco numerous times and Petco when I couldn't get in touch with anyone. Petco staff escalated the issue (to corporate) but I never got a call back from them. After 8 days, I called back and let them know I hadn't heard anything from Petco or Vetco. The store manager apologized. read more

Just got off the phone with this location. First I was on hold 7 minutes for Grooming. I was told grooming can only be scheduled on weekday MORNINGS! 11:00 am is the latest. NO SATURDAYS BECAUSE MY DOG WEIGHS 44 POUNDS !! The woman said that my dog was too "BIG" for Saturdays. I told this woman I didn't need this today but whenever there was an opening and she said big dogs are only accepted on weekday morning!!! If I could give this place a 0 star, I honestly would. Especially the groomers who work there. I have been taken my pup to this place ever since he was a couple months old for nail trimming and grooming. My pup is a German Shepherd who is a little bit on a bigger size. The groomers at this place pretty much refused to groom my pup because he was "too big for us". However, they said they would still trim his nails. I mean...pup owners know our little friends DO NOT like to be taken to the groomers right? We have finally FOUND a trick to get his nail trimming process done quickly and it's actually been working well. Or so I thought... A couple days ago, my family brought our pup to this store to get his nails trimmed, like usual, we think it'd be a quick process. Well...my family saw this girl (who was supposed to be a cashier, but I guess they were short staff and needed an extra set of hand?) was choke-holding my pup's head to make him stay still. I was not there to witness this incident, because if I was, someone's getting fired. But my family member did witness the incident, but because of the language barrier, they didn't know how to communicate that action was wrong to the staff. The groomer's name is Karina or Katrina, I'm not too sure. Imagine....if someone was choke-holding your neck while you're getting a hair cut, would you like it? I don't think so!! So what makes them think that it's okay to choke-hold my pup's head??? That is unacceptable!!!!!! I am beyond frustrated. Being a customer of Petco since the beginning of time and always tipping the groomers really well, I did not expect for my pup to be treated this way. Especially, they work there..they supposed to love our pups...I don't want to make this a big deal but I am beyond frustrated about this incident. The groomers here have made mistakes like cutting my dog's nails too short and then tried to rush me out the door before I can see it. I understand you get busy but when you've hurt someone's pet you should at least take the time to talk to their owner. The one time they actually had to talk to us because my dog's belly was covered in red marks, that he didn't arrive with, they lied. She tried to blame obvious clipper burn on fleas! I decided not to use the grooming services here anymore. The red marks disappeared a couple days later, but knowing she tried to mislead us is very unsettling. I still buy pet supplies here, but I wouldn't recommend the grooming services. read more

I brought my pup here to get his nails cut and trimmed after we moved from Rockville and was sooo disappointed by the unprofessional and untrained people that didn't want anything to do with Jameo. He's a lab/boxer but definitely looks like a chocolate pitbull and you could clearly tell they were scared. I walked up to the register and the young lady was eating Oreos! Choco at a dog store? Come on lady. I watched her take him to the back (a really small glass enclosed area that's completely closed off from me) and she was clearly nervous and didn't touch or talk to him at all! The other petco I took him too, they were so sweet to him! Gave him treats let him let him lick their face while he was getting his nails cut. This place was awful. She struggled to put him up and grabbed his back foot and he moved his head to see what she was doing. He likes to watch and like I said, lick their faces, not bite. After that one small movement from my dog she gets her manager who proceeds to tell me he's aggressive and a danger and they can't do it. I think they wrote that in his little petco file. I guess they didn't read the part where we had been going to petco in Rockville for over a year. I asked if there was someone more trained that could do it and she said they would not. I felt so bad for my dog thank god he doesn't understand but just because he doesn't look like a golden doodle does not mean he is not a sweet boy!!! These young girls looked like they didn't like animals at all and treated my dog awfully. I want to ask them to please get another job that they actually enjoy doing because they clearly didn't like working with my dog. Don't be so hurtful and rude. read more
