I don't think my little boy had ever been to the groomers. He was rehomed with us so I really just didn't know. The groomers at Petco came highly recommended - my sister has been using them for a couple of years. Ally was amazing from the moment I went in to make the appointment. She was so good with my Bowie. She played with him, scratched behind his ears and told me how handsome is (what doggy mom doesn't want to hear praises for her fur baby?) Turns out Bowie probably had never been to the groomers - he threw up poor baby. Again Ally was awesome and took good care of my little boy. Actually, she was all around great. This place has completely gone downhill. The constant turnover of veterinarians is alarming -- every few months there's someone new, and the care gets worse each time. The new doctors are inattentive, dismissive, and seem more interested in rushing through appointments than actually helping your pet. They throw around medical terms you can't understand, offer no real explanation or guidance, and walk out of the room as if your questions don't matter. To make things worse, their prescription prices are outrageous -- literally three times higher than what you can get on Chewy. When I confronted the staff about it, they simply printed out a prescription and told me to order it online. If they already know their prices are that inflated, why not fix it instead of making customers jump through hoops? I used to come here regularly, but this experience was the last straw. I will never bring my pet here again and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone -- not even to my worst enemy. Pet owners deserve better care, clearer communication, and honest pricing -- none of which you'll find here. read more

They will lie to you in order to get your money AND at the cost of your dog's health. They have no problem exaggerating any issue to scare you into buying their "packages" and can be very pushy (major red flag). Not thrilled with them lately. We've been taking my dog there for years for nail clipping only. The price keeps going up and appointments are very limited. What I am really unhappy about is that twice they have skipped nails saying they are too long and cannot trim them. Both times they told me we have to see a Vet and neither time did they discount the price. They should have considering they did not clip all of his nails. What makes matters worse is that after bringing him somewhere else - they laughed and said it was not too long and very easy to clip. Shame on you Petco for not completing your job. My 8 year old cat died due to Vetco Total Care Hackensack's negligence...of course, the doctor (Dr. AK - Abdul K.) chose to avoid blame (lying about what was given to my cat that killed him, said "what's done is done", did everything but accept responsibility). I was forced to escalate this case and to no surprise, PETCO showed even more unprofessionalism. My emails and calls were ignored; Customer Relations chose not to take the Customer Relations call telling me to call the Hackensack Hospital instead because the case was so messy, they didn't even want to touch it; lead doctors of Vetco's Eastern Region have even had their hand in changing the events. It took 2 weeks for someone for upper management to even respond. They are the MOST brainless, coldhearted, unorganized group of lying, petty underqualified morons. They have no respect for pet's lives assuming a simple apology for killing my cat is all that is owed. To those looking to give PETCO your money and business, I'd like to save you the headache and advise you to go elsewhere. read more

DON'T GO TO THE VETCO CLINICS IN PETCO! The three stars for the groomers would have been five stars, because they they were great with my chihuahua. I only gave three because I really wanted to review the Vetco Clinics vaccinations that are done in the store. I brought my dog there for vaccinations yesterday. His last vaccinations were given at a veterinarian's office, but I forgot the paperwork. I told them I knew that he needed a Bordetella vaccination. We agreed to give him the Healthy Dog package. I then asked if it would be possible to give him a 3-year rabies vaccination, even though the one he had last was good until February of 2024. This way I would be able to register him in my town without having to bring him to be vaccinated in the beginning of 2024. ( The town needs proof that he's vaccinated for the whole year. ) The said no problem, they could give him the 3-year. They gave him the vaccinations, and I left. When I got home and accessed his records, I saw that he had been given a 1-year rabies vaccination. I immediately called the store, and I spoke to someone named Nina, who apologized, but said there was nothing she could do. They said they gave him the 1-year because the records they had were from his last visit in 2020! I said that his last vaccinations weren't from them, that I had paperwork, and if they had told me that they couldn't give him a 3-year, I would have said don't give him the rabies shot! We have to come back in two weeks for the vaccinations that I paid for, and I could have bought the paperwork and gotten the 3-year at that time. Now he got an unnecessary vaccination, since I won't be able to register him with a vaccination that is only good until August, 2024. He will have to get ANOTHER rabies vaccination at the beginning of the year in order to get registered. Both the people at the store and the customer service person I spoke to today told me they won't give me a refund for the vaccination I didn't ask for and my dog didn't need. Basically, they can give whatever vaccinations they want! Now, I'm out the money ( senior citizen on a fixed income) and my poor baby will have to get another rabies vaccination in three months! Told her nicely that it's an online order hence no paper receipt. She told me due to the new refund policy, the returned item must have paper receipt. Again I explained to her, I had the order number in my Phone. She insisted i have to print it out in paper in order to process the refund. Turned out, that's not the case. This review is for the actual store and none of the additional services they provide. I like that when you enter this store, it doesn't smell, always a perk as some pet stores cannot seem to get the urine or small animal smell out. The staff seem always to be friendly and the store usually has what you need in stock - it's also pretty clean. My gripe is that it can be more expensive than its competitor, Petsmart at times. Also, when they're doing training sessions, they sometimes use the aisles and displays to block things out rather than having a separate "training section" like Petsmart has. This sometimes gets in the way of me shopping if I want to get my dog something (as they seem to always use the dog toys aisle?!!?!?!). This also causes problems if the dog that's being trained begins barking like crazy at other shoppers. I think they seriously need to fix this the most and then the store will be perfect. read more

The person from the cashier was getting so angry due to some glitches with his register. He was catching so much attitude stating I can't use my coupon because I have rewards credit and wanted me to use my rewards credit or coupon. I told him that does not make sense and I never had that problem before. Took my dog here for the first time for a grooming service. When I got there I was rudely turned away by some unmannered lady named Alicia because the name I put on the reservation was not the same as name on my dog's medical record. I adopted my dog so the name on his medical records is not the name I call him. When I told her to change the name of the reservation she still said she wouldn't take my dog. She asked all the right questions and genuinely seemed just as concerned as I was for the cat. She guided me in the right direction and even applied a coupon during checkout! Most of the staff here are friendly and knowledgeable about products and services especially Victoria and Tim. I was very impressed with the puppy training classes. Victoria is a great trainer. She was very informative. When we left our final classes I felt like we had a completely different pup. We also utilize the grooming services at this location. Alicia is a great groomer. What! They banned my dog from their grooming services. It's okay, I understand and there's no hard feelings. Poofie is a challenging pet. I recently ventured in and bought an aquarium as an addition to my outdoor pond. The place was pretty well kept with a decent selection. Everything I wanted was in stock! They also had rodents for sale (hamsters/rats/chinchillas/etc.) I refrain myself to limiting stars because 4/5 stars ought to be earned through an exemplary execution. I won't dictate how I expect my experience to be enhance, but the marketing gurus should figure that out on their own. Hence 3 stars for an average voyage. read more

Surprised at some of the three star reviews. I just shopped for and bought a Crested Gecko at PetCo in Paramus and it was a really good experience. On two different visits to Petco on Route 17 to research possible reptiles or amphibians for our son, I encountered Petco staff who were very knowledgable about amphibians and reptiles. Both interviewed us, then recommended that we buy a Crested Gecko, but both also suggested that we not buy a second one until we knew which gender our Gecko would be when it got older. Good advice on habitat, temperature, food, water, moisture, etc. On our second visit both Geckos and Gecko habitats were 25% off, which made our decision easier. We felt we got really good service, and we love out Crested Gecko, Coastie! read more
