I went yesterday to buy a choke chain to keep my dog from pulling on walks. The employee working at the time, Keith, recommended a front clip harness and said it works well. I bought the choke collar anyway, and went outside and tried it on my dog. My dog freaked out and jumped around, it was awful. I quickly returned and took Keith's advice and purchased the harness. Keith even showed me how it worked and fitted it on my dog. I walked my dog this morning and he's like a different dog. The harness works so well, no pulling. I can't thank Keith enough for his help and his knowledge of pet products. Walks will be so much longer and more enjoyable now. read more

Stopped in for cat ear drops before I left town. The store was messy; stock misplaced and items not front faced. I get it, it's retail and that happens (CSR here for 20+ years). However, my issue was the bathrooms. Clearly they have not been cleaned recently. Yeah, cleaning up after people is not fun, but it is still a part of the customer experience. I asked an online technical question and they sent me an email asking for verification but clicking on the button in the email did not work. I then got an answer elsewhere and decided to place an order. My login from a previous order did not work; so I changed my password. I still could not login even though I tried 2 different browsers. A call to customer service brought me to a rep who I could barely understand after much repeating. She then seemed to understand what I wanted and put me on hold. After about 5 minutes on hold I was disconnected. I had given her my phone number but she never called back. This type of service is unacceptable and I will NEVER try to use them again!!! read more

I recently got my crested gecko from the flagstaff location, i realized soon after that he was sick and brought him back, they immediately took him in and kept up communication on his status and what was going on. They took him to Kaibab and personally i really love them and think they do a wonderful job, I've met with the staff and they are very knowledgeable and friendly. I went in to retrieve my gecko after a few weeks and he was so much better and hasn't had any issues since, the woman who helped me out the entire time was Jordan and she was extremely nice, truly made me a loyal customer to that location. I also have noticed how active and friendly there reptile are, its rare to find a big chain with good reptile care, but the management seems to care a lot and provide excellent quality set ups for them. I am so grateful to now have a healthy gecko, and will surely continue my patronage of the store. read more

This must be the worst Petco store I've ever been in. Upon walking in it felt like I was walking through a war zone. Like literally Baghdad! Products and trash laying on the floor in the middle of almost every aisle, bags of food laying in the middle of the aisle that appears as if rats or mice have started eating at it because the kibble was pouring out of it--where no one has attempted to clean it up. Mops, buckets, cleaning supplies not cleared away as if the cleaning didn't get completed the night before. Mostly all of the shelves were half to completely empty as if they just weren't getting in products or they just failed to replace the shelves with product. To my surprise I was the only shopper in the entire store...but once I started walking through it I understood the reason why. The store is unkept and an accident waiting to happen causing grave and penal damages. Go to another store --because they probably won't have won't you need--they didn't for me. Placed order on Friday at about 5pm and planned on picking it up that day. Website stated store closed at 9pm got to store around 7pm and there was a hand written paper on the door stating store closed at 6pm ok wait till the next day got email at 8:30am that order was ready for pickup arrived at 9am when website said store opened paper on door saying store doesn't open until 10am hours store operates are NOT what is posted online. Finally when store did open, no one was manning registers. Cashier finally walked up and stated she was still clocking in and she'd find someone to help. As someone who has worked retail previously, cashiers are expected to be at the store before open and have the register opened and ready by opening hours. Finally when someone did walk up they didn't seem very aware that there was an online order to pick up and seemed to have to figure out how to pull up orders before going over to retrieve my order. There were many other customers waiting outside when the store finally opened and none of them seemed all that pleased that the store was opening later than was posted. Unless things change at this store, I foresee it closing up in a short time period, prices are cheaper at PetSmart for the same items, and keeps store info up to date with website. read more

While we go here often because they are close to home and carry the brand of dog food we feed our pup, I have to say, I don't actually enjoy coming in here anymore. I'm not sure what's going on because we used to actually like coming here, especially when the kids were little because not only could we get what we needed, but we could also spend time letting our family browse through the fish tanks and birds and other critters. Now, I want in and out as fast as possible because it is honestly just such a mess. Lately, every time we go, the store seems to be in worse and worse shape. There is no order to anything, it always is unorganized and there are piles of items that need to be shelved/restocked. Also, the trip in is getting harder to justify because they've been out of our preferred brand of food too, or they only have the tiny bag. I think they could turn it around but there has got to be some serious organization and attention to the general appearance and accessibility of the store. read more

Petco as an overall corporation has done some great things in trying to be more ethical in its product selection, and I commend them for that. However, this particular location is absolute trash. The customer service is just terrible. If you ever find an employee in the store to help you pay for your items, you should play the lottery, because it's your lucky day. I have waited at the register for someone to notice me there every single time I've been there. A few weeks ago, I had a kid tell me to wait because he had to find someone to help me since he was going to take a break. They've gone so far as to finally place a doorbell for service at the register. Their employees are just rude, period. Today as I was paying for my product, i was talking to the cashier and as soon as my payment was approved, he just walked away from me still in mid sentence. It was just a bit rude. The store is always a mess with shelves not being stocked, bins and boxes of product all over the place that you have to dig through to find what you're looking for, and so many products with no tags on them. With their lack of employee presence, product organization and labeling, I wouldn't be surprised at the amount of product loss they experience. read more

Willow is worth EVERY penny! My fiancé and I started taking our two young dogs to Willow, the dog trainer, when we were struggling and at a loss on how to teach them. We signed up for the six week course, expecting for them to really only learn their names, sit, stay (the basics). Both dogs as well as myself, just graduated doggy school with more knowledge than I could have expected. We were taught the basics and so much more. Because of Willow I can now put my dogs in a sit, place their food bowls on the floor and release them one at a time BY NAME! Willow continually gave us tip tricks, and fun enrichment games to play that the dogs absolutely LOVE. Willow truly goes above and beyond with her clients. Grooming is not efficient! They promote all their services yet I dropped off my dog at 10 and I showed up at the store 3 hours later to have them tell me they need 4 and a half hours to groom my dog. I wish they communicated this before dropping off my dog since I have work. They asked if I would like to reschedule the appointment. Even though my dog has already been there for 3 hours. The store was a mess. The animals all looked sick: there were flies in the ferret and hamster cages, the birds were missing feathers and lethargic, pretty sure one of the pythons were dead, and most of the Beta fish were dead or had fin rot. I wouldn't give this place one star. read more

Worst experience EVER!!! Also, very expensive and did not receive the services I paid for (pay before you can get your pup is how it's done). Our small dog was shaved, all but his head! He had a long hair tail and they shaved it off. I paid for teeth brushing, detangling, poodle cut, the works - $80+ for our 9 pound dog only to receive him shaved bald! So sad and such a terrible experience. The young kid working said "I couldn't detangle him so I shaved him" - like what?! Why shave him to the skin? Cut his hair down, fine, but to shave him bald is super lazy and then to charge me over $80 for a bald dog. Our bigger dog was same price but no hair cut (thank goodness), however, we did pay to have him deshedded and for sure that was not done. He smelled nice and was brushed and that is the only reason for 1 star. We have been here before and it is never a great experience but it's convenient and has never been this terrible. Go to a qualified, professional groomer. PetCo hires kids and I'm quite sure they have little to no training. read more

Groomer "John" was an absolute nightmare!!! When I picked up my dog, a small Maltese, he told me he couldn't do the dogs face/ head due to the dogs "anxiety". I told him the dog couldn't even see because his bangs were so long and it needed to be trimmed. After he insulted me, calling me a terrible person for letting my dogs hair get so long, I asked for the store manager who had him trim the bangs.. He was such a nasty person and very disrespectful!! I have an 8 year old miniature Australian Shepherd, and she is a fully trained and certified service dog. I was already hesitant leaving my service dog with staff because of her age and health condition, as well as my condition without her. The petco staff seemed friendly and understanding at first, but after I had asked the first groomer, Malia, to re-do the "haircut" that took four hours- the tone changed for all of the grooming staff. My dog was barely bathed and blown out, then given back to me- her teeth were not brushed and toenails not trimmed (the staff even charged me extra for those while they are included in most grooming packages). Malia then completely butchered my dog's hair, took off at least 3 inches of length and didn't blend out with scissors what she cut with the sheers - which I had not asked for. I asked for a simple trim, maybe an inch to just fluff and sculpt the natural form of my dog's shape, how the attached butcher job took 4 hours I can never tell you. I expressed my unhappiness very kindly to the remaining staff, as I was too nervous to speak directly with the groomer because she had already shown attitude with having to actually do her job and cut my dog's hair, and Malia jumped in defending the awful cut. The grooming manager, Meredith, didn't try diffusing the situation at all and I left the grooming department CRYING. Prior to simply asking for a small trim, I had received text messages from the groomer informing me that my dog was aggressive and that they put her in the kennel dryer in order to keep Malia's fingers safe. To further clarify: Corona is an 8 year old service dog. And if anyone reading this has ever met Corona, it's known that she is extremely docile. My dog has never shown aggression towards a person or another animal, it's not in her nature and she's trained for my disability. The assistant store manager, Eric, then wrote me a rain check for a complete spa day for my dog after noticing how the time went for me and my service dog. I took it with hesitancy because the right thing would have been a complete refund. Fast forward two months for my dog's hair to grow out again in order to have a fix job completed, I scheduled an appointment with the grooming manager and told her the same thing I asked for on day 1. Corona's hair was cut how I wanted it, but Meredith charged me extra for cutting her toes and brushing her teeth. Attached is that butcher job, when asked to fix the grinch feet into snow balls. My dog's nails were not trimmed in the slightest and her teeth were not brushed yet again (the breath is the indication). Meredith then said that she didn't have the authorization to ~not~ charge me for a fix job and that I can call the store manager, Cory, to get a refund the next morning. This fix was even more expensive than the first appointment, so I had extreme hesitancy with this. I called petco store #1165 this morning expecting a simple read off of the receipt and refund. Cory then proceeded to talk over, argue, and interrupt me on the phone for 30 minutes and refused to refund the fix job that was just completed yesterday. He claimed that I was just trying to get free grooming out of them, but none of my grooming appointments have ever been free? The petco staff is obviously discriminatory against service dogs and have a strategy to overcharge people and get away with it. I do not encourage anyone to take their pet for grooming here, I don't even recommend purchasing products from them because of the awful customer service demonstrated by the upper management in staff. read more

I thought about taking a picture. The store is in shambles. What a mess!! In the leash isle over 60% of the shelves were empty and merchandise was laying on the floor like the place had been ransacked. I wish I could say this was unusual but often the shelves are empty or on a stocking cart in multiple places in the store. Just a mess. The staff are nice but not always easy to find. I've saved so much money not paying an examination fee when my animals have just needed the rabies shot and deworming stuff. Rabies shots here are only $20 and so was the deworming for our new kitten. They're super nice and come often enough, on Sundays! As a college student, this service has been a life saver. Also the store is nice and the workers have always been friendly. Also they sometimes put out cute puppies to snuggle with and it's the best thing ever! read more

Took my dog Belle there for a hair cut and had a horrible experience. Was called and told she would bark when groomer went near her bum. Said she would try again but didn't know if she was able to do it. Picked Belle up and she looked HORRIBLE. Her back end was super long and still dragged on the floor whereas the rest of her was super short. Disappointed to say the least, in California she gets everything cut and her glands. She ended up with an infection because glands weren't cleaned. Me and my boyfriend had to spend an hour cutting the hair ourselves. Won't be coming back here. I understand that they have a glass grooming section and maybe she didn't want people to see my dog barking as she cut her, but I think she could have made more of an effort. This 5 star review is specifically for Cory and Meredith. Cory: We have a ball python who, after 22 years, gave us our first health scare. Cory talked to me for nearly an hour discussing any and all things snake care related. He answered question after question with enthusiasm and knowledge. I ended up taking our girl to the vet and relayed everything Cory had recommended to our vet and was told every last word of advice was correct. Not that I doubted it! Cory has also helped me on other occasions with online orders and making sure I get the best deal possible. Through our interactions, it's clear Cory truly cares about animals and their well-being and wants to make big box pet stores a better place for them. Cory is a true asset to this company and is the reason I'm happy to come back. Give that man a raise! Meredith: Meredith always does such a nice job trimming our dog's nails and "grinch paws". Prices seem to be a bit cheaper than petsmart on the items I buy, but they are often out of those items. Their harness selection for dogs is pathetic- I think the big box stores have almost as much. I took my pup here to be groomed because I've always heard great things about them. And they live up to the expectations! I have a german shepherd corgi mix, so he has very thick fur. I got him deshedded, and a haircut. He came back looking AMAZING and his fur is so soft and fluffy, and thinned out! Hes a very nervous pup, but they said he did great!
