    Wet dog!

Petco is back up to 5 stars for their self-bathe options! This must be fairly new because they didn't have this when I had my sweet Sophie! Self-bathe is an affordable way to bathe your dog and leave the mess at petco! My partner and I took our pup in last week. Super easy. Here's how you do it. 1. Go to the grooming department. 2. Tell them you want the self bathe option 3. Pay twenty dollars 4. They'll give you a basket with everything you need- smocks to keep you clean, shampoo, conditioner, two types of fur brushes, and towels. 5. Everything else at the big tubs have instructions on it. It's super easy and your dog comes out cleaner than when you walked in. 5 stars!

i love this Petco location is very convenient W Valkey and 15 in Esco ! had to get on board again with the flea meds for my furbabies -this summer is even more brutal than last. Seresto works well for us and i only buy it once a year. Everything you need for your pets under the sun you can buy here. A lot of fun stuff / toys cute clothes and of course a great selection of food. Staff is always friendly and helpful i also love this location as well because they have a Vetco inside it.

Stopped to get my Rudi a birthday gift and treat. Selections for toys are limited. I did find some doggy ice cream from Ben and Jerry's. Store could use some reorganizing and a bit of tidying up. Also some additional help... one cashier and it took a while to get through the line. Parking lot is plenty big.

Shaved instead of the length I showed them I wanted on their hair cut length chart.

We've never been to a Petco for grooming. Being they're closer in location to us than our groomer we had for our little dogs that crossed over and open weekends which our other groomer isn't; we thought we'd give it a try. We were told it'd take 4 hours which is norm. But after 2-1/2 hours we got a call, he was done already. Nice...so we thought. When we got there to pick him up and were paying, we were told by the girl, "Your dog is 12 years old and fidgets a lot. We're a corporate company and we don't have the time to groom him." I was stunned a little asking, "Does that mean he's not allowed here in for grooming?" "Yes, correct, he's not...try a vet or a private groomer instead." Wow! And that not even the worst of it! When they brought him out it was busy and we could tell we needed to get him outside to pee. When we did and could actually take a look at him, his grooming was the worst either my wife & I have ever had with any of our dogs! His face was still all dirty, he had hair actually sticking into both eyes, the top of his head was 2 different lengths (1/2 inch shorter on the left side and 1/2 inch longer on the right side)! His whole face was hack jobbed and totally uneven all over. NONE of the hair was taken out of the inside of his ears. Off their grooming length chart, I picked the length I wanted him cut to when we dropped him off and he was shaved instead, almost bare (and it wasn't because he was matted as my wife brushed him out the day before going here). When we got home, my wife had to cut to even out all the hair on his head & face, cut the long hair under his eyes and clean it, & trim the hair from inside his ears. So for $80 to get this "grooming", the staff doesn't have to worry about us EVER going back!

Rodent holes in my cat food for the second month now. Do better.

Since you removed my last yelp review because you didn't like what I had to say about one of your employees. We can pretend like your employee wasn't rude or offensive on numerous occasions. I'll just leave the review showing the rodent hole that has been chewed in this bag of food for the second month that I've gotten something from this Petco in Escondido. You have made it clear that you don't need my business, and I have made note of that. I will cease to do business with your company going forward.

I have been going to Petco in Escondido for years. They are so knowledgeable on many levels, but I have to say today really was the icing on the cake.! Cathie... the most wonderful employee... Was on her way to do something else when I asked her what recommendations she would have for a very itchy dog, who didn't have fleas or worms, but his owner fed him a lot of chicken. She gave me so much wisdom about allergies for dogs and the products that are best to help their digestive system and what foods to avoid. She walked me right down to the right aisle and she was just so friendly, professional and informative, how could I go anywhere else? I LOVE this place and so does my own dog by the way!

    Ask the Community - Petco

Do you have self wash dog baths?

There are 3 tubs...only 1 dog at a time per tub at $20 each.

Do they sell cockatiels, also how often do they get cockatiels?

Not at the Escondido Petco. They used to have birds, but none since they remodeled the store. Maybe they are waiting to bring them back?

We've had no out-of-control barking incidents; he can be tethered and remain quiet. He's very good on walks, moving from "heel" to "break" and back to "heel" again. He's very responsive to the "off" command, which we use primarily to keep him off the furniture and out of the kitchen. Last week we had friends over for dinner and after his initial excitement he was a good boy, lying nearby content and chewing on a bone. We even attended the Humane Society Walk for Animals at Kit Carson Park, and with hundreds of dogs and people and non-stop activities, he was again a very well-behaved boy. We are so appreciative of the work that Michelle did with Monty. He is now the dog we always hoped he would be - happy, well-behaved, and living his best life!

The moment Chewie saw Chris, he recognized him and greeted him with such joy! Minding his manners of course. He's too smart to behave like a brat in front of his trainer. Chris took the time to demonstrate effective techniques and offered practical solutions I'll be implementing right away. First class service and great communication before/during/after. My puppy came in with minimal training and left a star. Sit, down, stay, leave it, more respect with the cats and my resident dog at home, and way more confidence. We are grateful to James of BB who placed us with Jenna. Our boys issues: high reactivity outside, especially other dogs, and inside, door bell, ring cameras, etc. Coupled with greetings by jumping and owning the house. Jenna set us on a path of activities for inside and was incredibly patient letting me share and ask questions, learning constantly. As we fine-tuned and we all got more comfortable we moved our training to outside. The methodology used is absolutely amazing and, I dare say, short of a miracle. We practice regularly and introduce the boys to different circumstances. All that food luring and positive food reinforcement training certainly has its place but only the techniques of BB with Jenna has helped our boys become trusting, comfortable, and happy. Here I thought I had to scan the horizon constantly to be aware of incoming dogs to prepare myself to hide behind a car or go in the corner behind garbage cans to get maximum distance. Not true. I walk no longer with my head on a lazy susan. We all are forever grateful. Our boys can lead richer more social lives. Thank you!!!

As first-time dog owners, the early support really did help us. Having someone we could call during those overwhelming first months was a relief. Over time, though, I realized I was hoping the training would shift toward more positive reinforcement. The constant, harsher corrections worked at first but eventually didn't seem effective anymore and started affecting my relationship with Mimi. I noticed this during a family trip where Mimi, who is usually fearful of strangers, bonded more easily with my husband and his family. She gravitated toward them when scared, and I realized it might be because they weren't following the correction-heavy approach, while I was. I also asked for help with Mimi's fear and reactivity toward other dogs, but was told they didn't have dogs available for training and that I would need to bring a calm, socialized dog myself. As a non-trainer, that was very hard, but we tried by traveling many hours to introduce her to my husband's family dog. The experience ended up being chaotic since the family didn't fully understand what the process required, and new people and dogs kept appearing even though Mimi wasn't ready. Her reactivity came back in that environment, which made me feel like the training had only put a bandaid on deeper fear issues. Maybe I should have clarified expectations better from the start, but with a high-need dog and being new to all of this, I didn't know what to expect. Since then, we've switched to a positive reinforcement trainer who organizes structured group activities. Mimi is still scared of bigger dogs and can still be reactive, but she's improving slowly and has been able to meet a few smaller dogs. She's also still fearful of people, but she nips a lot less now, so progress is happening. Overall, Bark Busters helped us in the beginning, but long-term we found that a different, more positive approach has been a better fit for Mimi.
