Petco - Maya loves Jenna in Grooming!! - Pet Stores Near Me - El Cajon, California

It's was my first time in the grooming department and it was an amazing experience for my pet the young lady at the front who took grate care for my baby! Was super friendly and handled my baby with care amazed to see that she was happy to take us in as walk-ins on a weekend! Definitely going to come back! read more

They were kind and patient with my girl Angel. She is a very nervous shy dog and they treated her very kind. The groomers are great and wonderful read more

I have an 8 month shih tzu, I took her to grooming department for the first time and I informed them about that, all the staff their are not helpful specially the stylist which I think she doesn't have enough experience to practice her job as a pet groomer her name is Brielle. Even the manager who is their for no reason what she did is just gave me an advice about my dog and I forget to ask her If is licensed to give me that kind of advice about the grooming, Don't waist your time do the review to get happy with the service at the end, Because I end it up with no bath no nail trim just a mess with the grooming. read more

I take my dog here every other week to get groomed by Jenna Floyd, she's the best groomer I've ever had for my dogs. She takes her time and does quality work. She's the reason I still go there. My dog loves getting groomed by her, she's always excited to see her. Jenna has a very kind way about her and my dog is never scared to get groomed. read more

Just recently moved to East County.Although Escondido Petco is perfectly suitable, El Cajon store has wonderful customer service. In this day and age, good service so hard to come by. Keep up with the friendly faces and helpful advice El Cajon. This dog mom much appreciates you. read more

Very inconvenient that they only carry "just food for dogs" (frozen) and only 2 locations. Makes it super inconvenient to drive half way across San Diego just to get it,when there's a petco right down the road from me but doesn't carry the frozen. read more

This one star goes to the employee (older extremely rude lady) working with the dogs being adopted. I went in with my son today and she wasn't ready for us to be in there she was muttering i don't have enough time, I haven't finished doing this and that blah blah blah I honestly couldn't understand anything she was saying she seemed to be rushed, so I said (in my mind) okay let's wait outside for a few minutes so she can get her shit together. So whatever me and my son are sitting outside waiting. We see two older women go inside I take a peek and notice the doors where the dogs are kept are still not open so I sit back down. It's now 10:30 so we go inside. The whole time my son and I were in there she kept huffing and puffing obviously annoyed and pissed off that we were there. Extremely rude and unprofessional attitude. Made me feel really uncomfortable so we just left. read more

walked in to have my dog groomed and this woman at the counter didn't even bother to look up she did not greet me and when i asked her about the packages she was rude clicked her tongue at me made me feel unwelcome and laughed when i asked a simple question very rude don't give them your money. They are assholes spend a little more and go where they at least treat you with respect if this is how she treated me, i can't imagine how she treats these dogs. read more

I 100% recommend the groomer we had today, Molly. She is just genuinely nice and loving to our dog. She not only cares about my dog's grooming, She also came out to store to recommended a product for my pups teeth, because prior I was complaining about tartar. The dremmeling was perfect& not scratchy (which is a plus) and my dog smells like blueberries! Thanks Molly! Love Tinkerbell (our Chihuahua) read more

I used to love going to this Petco because they have really changed for the better and sell quality products. But the past few times have been the worst. A few weeks ago I brought in a guinea pig coming back from the vet to get more supplies and a cashier tried to tell me he was not healthy and my vet wasn't caring for him properly. Did not ask for advice, nor should a cashier be grilling me on how well my animal is being cared for. Today I went in and impulsively bought another guinea pig, only to find out soon after that she had static mites. My petco receipt stated that I needed Petco's approval before bringing a purchased animal to the vet within 30 days of purchase to get reimbursed, and when explaining this over the phone, the manager aggressively said no and that I do not have approval. He argued that I must return my guinea pig to receive any kind of veterinary care and re-purchase her at a later date. As a manager, he could have been more respectful and explained where I apparently misunderstood their policy rather than being so blatantly rude over the phone. Even after expressing that I was upset about the way he was handling this situation, he scoffed and argued with me further. Will be going to another pet store from now on. read more

HI everybody. First of all, I am a huge supporter of Petco and all they do. I have multiple varieties of pets so am at their stores on a regular basis. I do have a recommendation. Avoid the store in El Cajon if you plan on making any purchases. Today, they had a single employee at the cash register and no one else in the store. If you wanted something or needed help, you could search your phone for answers, but there were no actual employees to answer your questions or provide service. The store in Santee is always staffed appropriately and willing to sell you products as are most other Petco's. If I were to make a recommendation to Petco, it would be to close the El Cajon store (or hire a functional manager) as it is damaging their brand. Today, I watched 4 other people leave the store because they were not able to get assistance. If my only interaction with Petco had been my experiences with the El Cajon store, I wouldn't return. Luckily, Petco has other stores in San Diego that are staffed properly. read more

The store is clean and well-stocked. My issue is that there was an adult cat in the back of the store that was in a cage much too small. The cat looked very sad and children were sticking their fingers in and making loud noises. I didn't even know that Petco could sell cats still. I live in SF and the Petco we have does not sell cats or dogs. If anything, there are rescue organizations out front sometimes that assist with adoption work, but that's it. I complained to the store management about the cat's well-being, but they didn't seem to care. I was upset and I still wonder about that cat and if it's still in that tiny cage. read more

Kudos to Petco! An extra added bonus today, I might add, when mom and I walked in one of the cashiers named Chuck noticed we were looking for a cart even though he had a line of customers and he said on the intercom, "We need baskets up at the front, two customers are waiting." A nice man came running out and went outside to get a bunch of carts and we told him thank you and that we could have gotten them ourselves, but he didn't mind at all and seemed glad to do it. I wish I had gotten his name, too, so that I can give him credit. The store was also well stocked and very neat and clean. read more

This is not my favorite pet store. The only reason why i come here is because its close to my home. I used to take my dog here when he needed LAST MINUTE hair cuts. The reason why i say last minute is because they are not that good. You tell them what you want and you get something totally different. WELL the last time i took my Maltese here for a hair cut they cut half his ear!! i was Freaking out!!! They called me right away and let me know what they did. Followedby the store manager calls me to come get him and take him to the hospital. he got about 10 stitches. That process sucked. It took about a month for his ear to heal but there is still a chunk missing in his ear. read more

I'll give it 3 stars because they always have what I need as far as supplies. Now, the Fish, Reptile, Bird department is another story. The fish tanks usually have ich and I've been told a few times by an employee I should go somewhere else...um, duh! It's badly under staffed. At certain times of the day you could probably wait an hour before someone noticed you were there. It's also a roll of the dice on what type of employee helps you, maybe you get one of the good ones or one of the others who hate you for bothering them. Most stores in El Cajon are like this employee wise and with a 10% sales tax I usually take my business to Santee. read more

Disinfectant for water...Earth to Petco!!! I brought my new dog for his shots after i called to get the vet hours, i arrived to a closed door because i was told the wrong hours....came back next day received a discount for that.(way to go!) Then as we walked in the vet office to give the shot i was looking and chatting with the vet and then my dog went over to a mop container for moping the floor and began to slurp the DISINFECTANT/WATER MIX out of the container that was sitting unattended inside the actual vet office....Manager and staff would not remove this when i asked them too. Staff is on another planet. do not use. F! F! F! funny way to store your janitorial equipment when your not moping. infact no mop was even to be seen nearby... This location is the site of an old Alpha Beta grocery store. The inside is done up in Petco style with everything you'd expect from the the place who's name is synonymous with the downtown ballpark. They had a bunch of felines up for adoption, but the Mrs. said absolutely not! The staff was a mixture or personable, friendly people and a rude, "not wanting to be bothered" type of cashier. I got what I needed and was in and out relatively quickly. The "Fido" pet name tag machine was user friendly and cranks out a pretty good product. All in all it was an ok experience. I will return the next time the four legged ones are in need of something I can't find at the grocery store. read more

Okay, I walked into the Petco in El Cajon to do a return. I stood in line, waited my turn and told the cashier I wanted to do a return as I looked for my receipt. The cashier looked at the product and was watching me look for my receipt all the while vocally claiming confidently they do not sell the product I brought in. The cashier saw my Petsmart receipt and stated that they were not petsmart and did not sell that product. Trying to find my receipt I was awestruck over this male employees lack of respect and regard towards the customer, me. When I located the receipt this employee refused to apologize after I insisted. It was not a nice feeling to be humiliated and then not given an apology for their wrongdoing and wrong treatment. I asked for corporate contact info where the employee did not have an answer even while making wait awhile for him to retrieve this request. read more

I am neurotic about my dogs, and when I say neurotic, I mean the possibility of an unhealthy obsession with them. My 7 year old terrier mix, my princessa, has never been to a groomer. I call her a 'groomers nightmare' because her fur doesn't make ANY DAMN sense! It goes thisaway and thataway and there are random swirlies here and oh! One over there, and it's just all over the place. She has been itchy for some time, the vets can't really figure it out, she is on Fish oil, special food etc. etc., and still she incessantly chews her hind quarters and licks the inside of her paws. I feel awful for her, because she scratches so much she is physically exhausted by the end of the day. So, instead of mamas home haircut , that of which I know exactly DICK about cutting a dogs hair, I decided to take her to pet co grooming. They had decent prices and I guess more than half of the reviews were fairly decent. Anything would be better than my job, and she will not let me trim her feet hairs to get the sap out, which is a big problem for her. So, to pet co we go. The last time I left her anywhere it was to get fixed, and that was traumatic for both of us, so terrified i was about leaving her in the hands of a total stranger, to do some things I KNOW she does not like having done (bath, feet trimmed, nails shortened etc.) We showed up a bit late, sorry, and were greeted by one yang lady, she then said that Molly would be our groomer, and out came Molly. She asked me what I wanted done, any special requests, (my dog has a natural Mohawk she has had since she was born and I would be devastated if it were to be cut off) blah blah. She was very thorough, looked at her fur, her skin even checked her teeth and gums and She had an instant rapport with charlie. I was being WAY over protective of her and was talking to Charlie in the 'you'll be okay' voice that moms do, and Charlie would look at me like, 'uh, duh, yeah, I'm Chillin with Molly, ma'. As Molly and I discussed the details of her grooming, Charlie simply laid down beside Molly behind the counter as if they were ol buddies. My dogs do NOT usually take to strangers well, EVER. So I left. Molly said the grooming would take about four hours, because she 'didn't want to stress Charlie out at all' and wanted to be able to take her time, considering she has never been to a groomer, let alone away from mama. So, a grueling four hours later, I get a call from miss Molly saying she's finishing up and I can come to get her. Going 90 down the freeway, ha ha, totes kidding any officers who are reading this, driving very much the speed limit, we go to get her. Show up, and I see her peeking from the back room, she comes BOUNCING out just as happy as a clam. She looked ADORABLE. I was, and still am, so impressed with the way Charlie looks. Her feet, fabulous, her fur, evenly cut, a real professional job, Molly even put some gel in her Mohawk to get it to stand up. She told me that Charlie was perfect for her. Wether she was just being nice or not, it made me very happy to hear that. She went the extra mile to make my dog as comfortable as possible, put a balm on her feet cuz she said they were pretty cracked, just a few little things to really give Charlie a great experience. Even finished off with an orange bandana around her neck. I will go back. I will be requesting Molly specifically. I am so happy with the service I received from her today, and I can tell you, Charlie is resting peacefully at my feet right now, not itching and chewing on her bum, or licking obsessively on her paws. I most certainly recommend the grooming service here, be sure to ask for Molly. her attention to detail, her honest concern for what I wanted to happen, and the comfort of my pup first and foremost speaks volumes for what kind of employee and PERSON Molly is. Thank you so so much !!! read more

I have never had a problem with the customer service of the groomers, they have always been super friendly. However, the work quality is not that great, at least the past few times I went in. I just go to get my two Dachshund's nails trimmed there and every time, I repeat, EVERY time they clip their nails so short that they bleed and yelp. It's so sad :(. I haven't been back since and I don't think I will. read more

The Actual store is very nice and big, the vet clinic department on the other hand are complete idiots, not only did they refuse to give my puppy shots, the assistants were rude and one even had the nerve to laughed at my last name. Never again will I go to another petco vet clinic. read more

Don't use the vetco clinics, you wont save more than a few dollars versus going to the vet. If you have a small dog you will have to go back multiple times and pay double for any shots that need a booster. If you consider time valuable; you aren't actually saving. It's a factory farm so they get you in and out as fast as possible. Pee on the floor both times we've gone in. Have to go back again. Will complete this round of vaxs with them (one more) and will not use service again. Employees are slow and beaten down from working for Petco. Animals aren't cared for and the mark ups on the products is absolutely insane right now. A item I bought for 14$ for a few years straight is now 50$ and that is not an exaggeration. Bad company to support. Unfortunately we get so limited because of these big businesses being set up to succeed no matter what. Support elsewhere any and every time you can. Take pictures of dirty and improper animal enclosures EVERY time you see them and post them online with hashtags, locations and management names. Do NOT donate when they ask for donations. (they get a tax write off, support organizations you believe in yourself and get the tax write off for you if you want it) and do not use a pal card. It just helps the business and we want them to be better for us and our animals. We do not need to be better consumers for them. read more

The employees of this place are not the problem. The vet they contracted with to do chipping feels like he can treat people as if they are children, lecturing us about fixing out cats with a look of disgust on his face as he handles your baby. I complained to the management about the guy and they were very nice but I am sure they didn't let him go or anything. Good to buy supplies, bad to take your animal in for help. read more

Fist time I got my poodle groomed here they did a good job, the lady was very nice and took great care of my baby. But Secound and last time for sure!! I guess they trim he's nails to short, the next day I took him to he's vet, and she says they did clip he's nails to short and that he's ears where badley irritated!! And had scratches!! Wth!! My partner and I entered the store at 8:55pm a couple of days ago and we were going to go straight to the item we needed, one Betta fish leaf. The employee who was the cashier in the front, Tina, was EXTREMELY rude. She yelled at us upon entering, "store closes in 5 minutes!" Her tone And demeanor were very negative and I believe this same statement could have been said in an entirely different way. So 30 seconds later, we get to the cash register to pay as the item we grabbed was only a few feet away. She looks at us and continues to gossip with the customer she was ringing up, speaking about personal things that were not Petco related. She then looks back at us and asks my partner, "Do you need something?" Again, very rudely. She responded with, "Yes, I'm waiting to pay" to which Tina just ignores and continues her conversation with the other customer. This entire experience has made us debate if we should even continue shopping for our pets from your chains, as the lack of customer service here was extremely disappointing. read more

The customer service and attitude displayed today in the grooming department and by the Manager- Heidi was horrible. I called to make an appointment to get my dog's nails trimmed and they told me it was by walk in only and to come down to the store. So, I pack my dog up and drive 15 minutes to get to the store...When i got there, the grooming salon had 2 girls in there, one was on the computer, the other just walking around. There were no dogs in the salon and it was empty. This was at 3:50 pm...they told me nail trimming is by appointment only...and they couldn't do it because one girl wanted to eat something and the other was off in 10 minutes....My small dog only takes 5 minutes of less to trim her nails.....I called for the Manager- Heidi- she was useless and could care less that her store told me 2 contradictory policies and I drove all the way to the store. Unfortunately, I was the only one who cared. I am taking my business to Petsmart!! read more

Every time I go into Petco, I am never approached by anyone to see if things were going well or if I have any questions, if they can help me with anything. Until I went into this Petco location. Right away, someone had already asked me if they can help me with anything. Gave me advice on new dog food and made me feel welcomed. The workers here actually engage with their customers and know their products. Thanks to Chantel (I believe that's her name) Allison and Kyle for being great people and making my visit here great! read more

Pet owners beware. Let's start with their grooming process. Zero courtesy. When I made my appointment for my Chowchow to get groomed there, like she has at least a dozen times in the past at this very location -they stated they needed updated vaccine records. I offered to fax it to them; they said their fax machine is broken. I offered to email it. They said they don't accept emails and that they will call banfield the vet to verify when the dog checks in. Good enough. My father in law drops off my chow the next day and 4 hours later they call him saying they were unable to perform grooming because the dog needs rabies shot. They convince my father in law to go to the rabies clinic and get the dog a shot. Mind u my father in law doesn't speak a Word of English, nor is he authorized to make decisions for the dog. My dog got vaccinated for no reason because they failed to call the vet and failed to contact me. Understandable I was livid, I call the store to talk to a manager and that's when I reach DARYL - asst mgr who claims he's the highest hierarchy with his level 1 iQ, disgusting lack of customer service attitude. He hangs up on me twice, laughs in my face as I hear him giggling with the morons who encourage his behavior. He would not express the slightest level of empathy or compassion nor would he give me the number to the district mgr or corporate petco. I called other stores to get the number and have escalated this issue accordingly. DO NOT GIVE THIS STORE YOUR BUSINESS. DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR LOVING PETS. IF YOU SEE DARYL - which I hope no one ever does because he certainly does not need to work in a pet store - RUN. read more

We usually walk in, find what we need, pay and leave. This time we had a question, and we found Amy on the floor ready and willing to help. We needed spray to stop our pup from chewing things he shouldn't. Not only did she point us in the right direction, but she tested each product on him to find the one that would work best. She was friendly and knowledgeable. Only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because I find them to be a bit more expensive than other pet supply places. read more

This review is for their aquarium section. This is the closest Petco to my house so I would frequent this one more often than others. I've recently gotten back into the aquarium hobby and things have changed over the past year or 2 since I've last been here. They used to have so much more selection in fish species and i saw several tanks with fish covered with ICH. When I was there, it seemed like they are very understaffed as I only saw 2 people working (1 @the register and 1 guy in the store). The only redeeming factor is that their betta selection and their health is as good as I remember it. The last betta I bought here lasted for 3 1/2 years and it seems they have the most varieties too. Although the aquarium section here is much bigger than the one in Santee, the Santee location has better selection of decor believe it or not. This location has a lot more fish food though. read more
