I was looking for a new groomer after my last place hired a new groomer that just didn't have the skill. My dog was suddenly reluctant to go with the new groomer and cuts got worse each time. Please do not take your dogs to get groomed here unless you want them to be mishandled and injured. I took my poor pup in for a bath and shave and he had cuts all over him. Cuts in sensitive areas, cuts on his paws, cuts on the underside of his tail. The staff is unprofessional and rough with the dogs. I understand that they are under pressure but that is no excuse to handle the dogs with such little care that they end up with bad wounds. We really only use petco for grooming. Specifically nail trimming of our Scottish terrier. He's not the easiest dog to work with but they are always happy to see us. This last time we went they were offering photos with Santa Claus. We didn't want to take advantage of the offer but there was a sweet older woman that wanted a picture with finley. So I've been taking my dog there for a few years now and have seen my share of groomers come and go. We had our favorite groomer for a long time there but due to unforeseen circumstances had to move on. Recently I took my dog there and it appeared they did a great job. She was her bright white and ever so happy to see us. Things were not as they seemed. Later that day we realized she had a big pink patch on her thigh. We examined closer and it appeared extremely irritated and almost like a rug burn when the hair was moved aside. We took her to the vet and they confirmed that our girl indeed had been burned in some way and is likely a brush burn caused by an inexperienced groomer. Therefore I will no longer be taking our dog there ever again. I urge others to take this with a grain of salt because you may very well have a great experience but I cannot trust my pet in their care again. read more

So, we drove home and then returned with proof of rabies vaccination only to be told by one groomer that he was going home. He asked the other groomer if she would take the job and she said no. This store has terrible management. I went into the store today seeking assistance on a habitat and diet for a goldfish and a tetra. We were not greeted. The employees have no idea what they're talking about and gave us incorrect information on the care for both fish. When we started to actually pick out an aquarium and such, there were no prices for the items. The items that did have prices below them, weren't for the items in placement. Meaning, the items were thrown on the shelves or misplaced. They were also dented, smashed, and dirty. When trying to figure out how much an item was, the employee who gave us incorrect care information, had us running around the store with a heavy aquarium trying to find a price check. The employees in the fish section were standing around doing nothing or pretending to do something. We went to the bearded dragons and their enclosures were filthy. The leopard gecko enclosures were clean at least. When we were getting ready to check out, I honestly thought the cashier was a customer with the way he was dressed. Just unprofessional. We pay and request a bag while the payment is processing, in which the cashier told us to carry all of our items out because they were out of bags. A customer behind us asked why he couldn't provide a bag to me in which I informed her that they were out of bags. The customer behind us also had a question regarding a household cat. She asked the cashier if the item she was holding (didn't get a glimpse of it) was for an indoor cat. She specifically asked, do you or anyone who works here knows if the item is for a cat. The cashier said he and none of the employees knew. He did not ask or direct her to any employees. He just said that they didn't know. The customer behind us seemed disgusted. I was disgusted. Everyone was rude and items were filthy. Employees aren't trained properly or educated enough. I've applied to work at this store so many times, only to be turned down (over qualified? who knows?) and these are the people they hire??? read more

Petco / Vetco IS THE WORST!!! When I first stepped foot in the store two employees were loudly complaining about how horrible the company is ... dysfunctional between business units, focused on upselling customers, not on treating the "patient", about wages and hours and they kept going long enough for me to hear this conversations while I'm waiting staring at them for my appointment for shots. When they finally stopped for a breath to take care of me one of the employees just keeps on telling me how bad it is while checking me in. We discuss my pet's age (senior) and medical condition and the need to get shots confirmations from my previous store in San Marcos as they won't share records directly with each other (aha! the dysfunction!) and so I do... I call and get what they requested. After the required upselling speech I pay for what is needed for them to groom my pet. I can't believe I'm pushing through this with complaining employees. I guess it was because we had two good years at the old store. But now? This place stinks! Literally and metaphorically. Now, comes more frustration. Come back in a week to get groomed and two weeks for more shots. Okay let's create a need for me to be in your store more often. Ugh. When I come back the same employee complaining about her job now REFUSES to do her job. Manager says he can't make her do her job. They refused to groom my pet. So careless. Pretty impressed with this store. Walked in the other day just to browse and left with a new leash, and treats for the pup. Staff was very friendly. One younger guy saw us looking at crates and told us where we could locate more in the store. It's always nice when staff is attentive. The woman who checked us out was friendly as well and I got the impression that the staff enjoys working there which is always a plus. As far as merchandise, they have A LOT of stuff... and choices. Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming (and a tad overpriced), but be selective and you will find what you are looking for. read more

I went to this Petco to buy a hamster, easy I thought. No not all, I informed the cashier I wanted to purchase a hamster,she informed me wait in the aisle 15 min later no one shows I inform the cashier I am still waiting to get a hamster 15 more min pass no one shows, well I don't have hours to wait at pet store so I left out anger. and because I had prior engagements. Decided to give them another shot, I go back to Petco a week later same thing happened. After waiting 20 min I see employees talking to each other, I ask one that's pretending to face product ( worked in retail) if they can get me the hamster, No. Apparently only one employee can get pets, she was helping someone with fish. So 40 min of waiting to get a hamster, the one employee they said can get animals is still helping the same customer with fish. 5 or 10 more min pass so again I leave upset keep in mind both times I had all accessories ready to buy I just needed the hampster. It was like 100 bucks worth of hamster nonsense I was waiting to buy. I was waiting so long other customers started looking at me like I was up to something. All I wanted was to buy a hamster for my kids I don't understand why that should take so long. Did you not want to help? Cause you weren't busy? I bought a hamster before from another company 15 max and got a cute little adoption certificate. To me it sounds like the employee was lieing it felt like they didn't want to help me. If he was telling the truth having only one person in a pet store that can get pets is insane to me. I want to chop my experience up to just poor customer service and not that other word, but I just felt unwelcomed. I actually never wrote a Yelp review before but this was so upsetting. I sent my boyfriend to get my English bulldog some more Royal Canin puppy food because that brand is known to make food fit size for the pups smush face and dietary needs +we just ran out and it was a necessity for tomorrows dinner time. He went to 2 different stores that were sold out of this brand. (i guess a ton of people decided to get an english bully around this time of year....) Before he finally called before showing up, when the male associate worker answered him he answered totally rude and clueless. I have come to this Petco numerous times for the needs of my animals. The staff is always more than helpful, very friendly and knowledgeable. I love the fact that this Petco hosts the East County Animal Rescue (ECAR). My boyfriend and I have adopted 2 wonderful kitties from them and couldn't be happier with our decision. Our kitties were never sick at any point, and if there was an issue even after the initial adoption period, we can call the ladies and they will be more than happy to help us in any way that they can, or give recommendations for a solution. All of their animals are spayed, updated on vaccines, and checked by a vet before being deemed "ready to adopt" They would never adopt out a kitty they know is sick. This rescue is by no means "shady" as mentioned in another yelpers review. I all around like this store, and I have no problem driving to this one from Santee in order to get the proper items, and expertise i am looking for in a pet supply store. I swear they should be called a doggie day spa and not just grooming. They have a blueberry facial, nail painting, and now they offer hot oil treatment and mud bath. I also love that all their shampoos are all natural, and even their flea shampoo is natural without toxic pesticides in it! Can I line up and have a spa day too? I have a visual of me and my Yorkie on the massage table right now. Rochelle did an amazing job on my little guy. She gave me a run down on all the services they offered. I picked their number 1 package, which is their top value package, and was really impressed with the quality that came out. He got the blueberry facial, silky show shampoo and conditioner, teethbrushing and my favorite is the nail grinding. His dagger claws are always so sharp and it was wonderful to have them filed short and really smooth. The haircut looked beautiful and he was completely brushed out. I don't know how the groomer handled his spastic hyperness, but she really did a great job. I also love that there was no rush to pick him up and that he has plenty of water to drink. I always tell the groomer to take as much time she needs and all day if she wants. I know the little spazz is in a safe and loving place and I can take a break and run my errands. Then when I pick him up he always smells amazing and feels so silky. His groomer is so amazing. read more

We just left this location trying to get out dogs groomed. Called this morning to ask if I could walk in with them. During this.phone call the lady was short and sounded like she did not want to speak with me, there was also no mention of my having to bring my dogs vaccinations records with me. We arrive at the store and go to the grooming room. There was one women in the office on the phone she did not look up did not acknowledge us in any way. I understand that you are on the phone but a nod of acknowledgement would have gone a long way. We were there almost 20 minuests and were about ready to walk out when another lady enters. It was then I was informed about needing my dogs records. Do not take your dogs here for grooming! The new staff and new management do not care about the dog or long-standing customers. The groomer decided it was more important to stand in the doorway and vape rather than provide customer service. They refused to groom my dog who has been coming there for 10+ years and I booked his appointment a month ago. The previous staff and previous management were amazing loved seeing my dog every four weeks but the all new staff could care less. They just didn't want to do the work today so refused to take him. Allowing your employees to stand in the doorway, propping the door open to vape while customers can visibly see them and approach the building is unacceptable. He is a husky and grooming him is a lot of work but that is why I take him to the groomers consistently to keep up with his hair. read more

We used to like to go to the cat adoption event on the weekends because my daughter loves to see the cats and we've been thinking about getting one. Unfortunately, we won't be going to the events anymore due to the attitude of the woman running them. I don't believe she's a Petco employee, so this isn't a reflection of Petco. I think she's a volunteer or employee for some organization that just hosts the cat adoption events, but she is so consistently and extremely rude I can hardly believe it. It's unfortunate that her behavior is bad enough to affect the chances of these cats finding a home because animals needing a forever home need every chance they can get. 5 stars for Petco because all of their actual employees have been nothing but friendly, but 1 star for the external vendors they choose to allow in the store. read more

I have had 2 encounters with a cashier by the name of Tina where I have left unhappy. First encounter was when I purchased $80 worth of Merrick dog food. I asled her if I could return them if my dog didn't like them. She said yes as long as I have a receipt (with an attitude). I come back the next day because my dog didn't eat it. Another associate tells me no we aren't taking returns because of COVID-19, I said I wish the previous associate who helped me yesterday would've told me just yesterday! Second encounter is I go back to buy dog food which is $19.99, I want price adjusted to match Petco online $17.99. She automatically takes my $15 worth of rewards off the $19.99 and says I owe only $5. I told her I need a price match from online, she gives me attitude and says she can't do it when I use rewards. If she does it I will lose my $15 reward money. I said no you can do it, because my rewards has nothing to do with a price adjustment. She is unhelpful and not providing customer service as she should. I will no longer be shopping here. Very unfortunate. read more

There isn't a person on this planet that hasn't gotten conflicting info regarding these masks and I personally beleive it is a choice. I have used the groomers a couple of times, the pet clinic and the store and i have no complains. My pup caught a flea at a boarding place and they groomed and shave him and found the two last stubborn fleas on him, they referred me to the clinic for a flea preventive med, so we went, they weight him and gave me the Comfortis green for $17, it worked wonderfully no more fleas no side effects. I went back to the clinic for his buster shoots they are way cheaper than the Vet. So he is happy and i am happy too! read more
