I urge you to not get your dog groomed here. The pictures I've posted show the story. I took my dog Pierre to get groomed yesterday. He was last groomed six weeks ago, and while there was some light matting in a few areas, he mostly needed a bath and slight trim. I was told it would be 2 hours for the groom. When I returned he was COMPLETELY shaved. His eyelashes, whiskers, everything was gone. When I arrived, the groomer said that she had done a "bad job" and offered me 25% off. I was in complete shock so I paid but I will going back today to see about a refund. I cannot believe that this happened and am so upset. It looks like the groomer made a mistake and then tried to over correct. I should have been contacted immediately when it became apparent she was unwilling or unable to do the cut I suggested. read more

I only have a couple of short-haired dogs but I really appreciate the ladies at the salon here in Dedham. They're accommodating with appointments- I literally called five minutes before showing up the other day with a very dirty dog, and I've had to change appointments before with no issues. They're sweet and obviously care about the dogs they're grooming. My Rosie doesn't like baths and HATES driers but they're very patient with her. They definitely don't make me feel like she's a nuisance and are open to trying new ways that might make the experience easier for Rosie read more

Small store with a staff that has the poor personalities of pets. No customer friendly cashiers here and this store could use a serious facelift. Its turned in a way to make it seem like half a store and needs to be cleaned up a bit. They changed displays and confused everyone. I have seen much better Petcos!! read more

-0 this place is horrible i dropped my dog off for grooming one morning, a young lady by the name of Kate was working with my dog, and honestly my dog wasn't matted, and wasn't filthy, because she's not outside dog i just like to keep her clean, i left my dog ,approximately 45mins later i get a call to pick up my dog that she was ready, and i thought to myself that was pretty quick, usually they would call me within hours after i drop her off, any way Kate trimmed her so uneven hair was flying all over me, she washed/bathe the dog not a drip of water was put on my dog, and she sprayed her with perfume so that i would that she was cleaned, and i still paid full price plus tipped her i didn't notice until after i left the store i tried to contact the manager numerous of times but never got a call back, read more

I began taking my new puppy to this store for grooming. At first they were good and then it began. after grooming they sent my dog out wet. no nails done and when i questioned this they told me they were too busy. this takes 5 minutes and they charged for it. After a few words they agreed to do it. I tried to make several appointments only to be put off each time from the day I wanted. The customer service is deplorable. I have moved on the the neponset dog and grooming. The service is great and if the groomers notice a pending health problem they have vets on staff to help. I went in to the Dedham store, not my usual branch, to get my dog food. I couldn't remember which variety of "Blue" I had bought the last time. I thought, no problem, they can look it up on my Petco account on the computer. Right away I felt an odd depressed energy there. Well, the cashier said, "They haven't showed me that yet", and showed absolutely no interest in trying to look up my info. I asked for the manager. She reluctantly shuffled over, stood about 10 feet away, listened to my dilemma, and said, "you can't look things up from my store, go to Needham.", and walked away. I blinked twice, then thought twice about what I wanted to say, and I left. Well, I did go to Needham, and the manager there told me that all Petco stores are linked, and she most definitely could have, and should have looked up my purchase history. The whole Dedham store feels sad and run down, the staff isn't trained, and show no interest at all in what they're doing. Go to Needham. Took my dog here for the self serve bath. It was an absolute dump. No supplies set up, filthy tub, no towels set up or aprons for humans. If I wasn't desperate to give him a bath I would never of stayed. The Charlestown Petco location is far superior and doesn't waste your time "checking in". Much nicer shampoo options, brushes set up, aprons, towels etc. This place was disgusting and not worth a dollar let alone $12, better off finding a hose. Will definitely not be returning! read more

I waslooking forward to bring my pet to the grooming center at Petco in Dedham because I had such a great experience at the Framingham one. However, I was very disappointed. The attendants had scheduled 3 other dogs for one groomer to manage at the same time as my appointment. The whole point of an appointment is that you are serviced at the time you booked. They then tried to charge me extra to "expedite" my pet! I understand that it can get busy, but you book appointments to help you manage the loads. Poor management and customer service. Will not be back there again. read more

We have been coming to this PetCo location for many years and love it. The staff is amazingly consistent and customer-focused. You can tell that everybody who works here really loves animals. The products are excellent - and the animals we have purchased have all lived happy and healthy. We bought a leopard gecko for my son when he was a little boy - and now he has graduated from college - and our leopard gecko is still going strong in his old age. I am usually not a fan of big chain stores - but what ever model they are using works. Very happy with Petco! read more

Hi - brought 2 dogs in last week for baths and nail trims. Couldn't be more happy with the service. Stephanie worked on my chihuahua Chloe and was phenomenal with her and so sweet to her. I came into this petco an had a great experience. Chase took the time to answer all my questions and helped me choose the right dog food for my puppy teacup chihuahua. I am very picky with the ingredients that I feed my animals and he went over most of the brands in detail and recommended the best ones for my pet and my preferences. The grooming service is not good , the groomers change like every 3 /4 months ... Took my dog today and they did a horrible job ...after 6 hrs They just said they couldn't do anything in his face !!! Very disappointed!!! read more

I agree that the store is dumpy and the sales floor help is...customer challenged but I have to give 4 stars to the groomers! They have always been pleasant and helpful. I actually use the self serve doggie wash (we own a Newfoundland and it's a lifesaver for us!!) and even with that, they chat and offer advice or products. Very nice - very professional. read more

DO NOT Take your dog here if you care what he looks like!!! We brought our Golden Retriever here and they SHAVED her. Who does that!!! Its a GOLDEN RETRIEVER...Please...I was soooo upset. I just inherited a fish tank and have been doing a ton of research about fresh water tanks and the fish I inherited as well as proper maintenance and fish health so I went to Petco in dedham to buy a few things like fish food, a syphon, fish net, a few new fish etc. I have to say the two fellas I've dealt with in the fish department are not only super knowledgeable about aquariums but they are incredibly helpful and seem to genuinely care about my fishes well being. I have been in here 4-5 times in the past 2 months and they remember me, the type of fish I have etc. I will only be going here to consult and buy my fish supplies. The store is also very clean and neat compared to some other pet/fish stores I have been in. The manager Melissa is also very nice and helpful and was kind to show my kids some of the other animals they have even though she knew I wasn't going to purchase anything. My kids love visiting here because they get to interact and see all the animals. read more

I went last week to purchase some fish for a kids party, after waiting 20minutes to be attended to, the gentlemen in the fish department laughed in my face and told me he was not going to put 30 fish into 15 seperate bags. Then he followed up his comment by stating I would have to pay him extra for that. Extra for what? Doing your job? I asked to speak to the manger, whose name is Melissa. She then procceeded to tell me they couldnt sell me feeder goldfish in seperate bagss and technically since I was giving them away, they had to go home in their tanks. Some stupid excuse she made up on the spot to justify the horrible customer service I received in the fish department. I'm so fed up with the service provided at this Petco. I chose to leave the store after wasting an hour of my time there and went down to the street to Pet Supplies Plus. I received much better service, I got the fish in seperate bags and the gentlemen was nice enough to help me carry all the fish to my car. That is customer service. And that is why I am no longer coming to this Petco. That experience was absurd and ridiculous. I wouldn't even give a star if that was an option. read more

I give this 3 starts instead of 2 because one associate did ask me if I needed help locating a product. Overall not a great experience. Petco had a 5$ off 25$+ purchase this weekend only, and so I thought I would go grab the basics, litter, dry food, and some treats. We like to buy the large bag of Nature's Instinct Variety because it's the best deal. Well they only had one bag left, and for some reason ( I never do this, but probably should) I thought to check the expiration date, since we just opened a new bag a few days ago and this wouldn't be opened for a while. The expiration date is next month. My cat will not eat 12.5lbs of almost expired food on time, so I asked my boyfriend to ask one of the associates if they had any in the back. He came back annoyed, saying that the associate said they were doing inventory right now and couldn't bring anything out, which was just a lame excuse, because I've done inventories at multiple stores as a worker, and if that situation had come across we would have gladly retrieved a fresher bag for a customer. I gave the coupon to another customer hoping she could use it, and was disappointed with this store. After coming home I wondered if we should have asked to speak to a manager, my boyfriend agreed, but also said that it was possible that the kid could have been a young manager. Oh well Petco. You lost me on this one. This is not our usual store, and always have a good experience at our local Petco, where the workers would never trying to pull this. Another thing...are they going to try to sell that bag? Anything that is that close to expiration should have been donated to a local shelter, where it could be eaten up in no time. read more

I was just at this store to pick up a specific brand/model of water fountain. When I didn't see it on the shelves, in either the cat or dog sections, I asked for help and was lucky to get Melissa to help me. She really went out of her way to try to find the model I was looking for, checking the inventory in the back and calling other stores in the area to see if any of them had it. There seemed to be some at a store a couple of miles away, and since I was on my morning coffee break I would have had to wait until lunchtime to take the time to drive there. Melissa was able to find a similar model in the store which, although it is the Petco brand rather than the brand I have at home, uses the same filters and has basically the same internal components, and she was able to give it to me for the same (online) sale price as the model I had been looking for. She went out of her way to help me and saved me a lot of time and hassle, so I would like to give her a big SHOUT OUT and THANKS MELISSA, for all her help. read more

i recently brought my golden retreiver in for a bath and hair cut because they could take me on such short notice. The grooming area was clean and felt fresh and the ladies behind the counter were very friendly and knowledgeable. My pup came out handsome after his 'spa day'. He was trimmed the exact way I asked, he smelled so nice too. They have a lot of extras available which are a little confusing at first but my pup got a "de shed" treatment and looks amazing. Just stop by this petco in Norwood and if you actually care about how your pet is treated at the groomers than yours pay for for caring staff!!! Only witnessed rude impatient staff grooming just yesterday an older woman yelled at a dog who by the way was crated "stop your yapping!" Nice! The staff saw my concern and only giggled completely unprofessional they seem to have no love for the animals or patients! I complained to this kid who's like my daughters age about this woman he said her name and seemed nervous but said he would say something so I hope I can save a few folks who love their pets and are expecting to have loving staff at that groomers some $! read more

I have been going to this Petco for the past ten years at least, first for a turtle, and in the last six years, a dog. I buy supplies and use the grooming salon. This is the first Yelp review I have ever written, and it's because my patience is completely worn out. I have continued to patronize the store because of how close it is, but I am done, because their customer service is deplorable. In the last year, I have called several times to schedule a grooming appointment for my dog, and they frequently do not answer the phone. I don't mean just in the grooming salon--the main number (781-251-0567) just keeps ringing without being answered or going to the phone tree. I have called three times in the last two days with no answer. When someone does answer, I have been told on at least three occasions to call back because the computer system is down. I have also had my dog's appointment canceled at the last minute on short notice at least twice. I should say that the groomer, Wendy, does a great job and obviously loves dogs, which is another reason why I have kept going as long as I have. But the poor customer service has finally worn me out. Do they want my business or not? To top it off, the stock in the store is poor. Whatever I want in my dog's size (small/medium) is never in stock and I always wind up ordering it on line. I also find that clerks generally do not know much about the products, and it is difficult to find a clerk in the store on the floor at all, much less at the cash register, where you frequently have to wait a long time for checkout. read more
