This is probably my favorite pet store in town. If you are going to buy animals and animal paraphernalia, this is the place to do it. The service is prompt but awesome, though I'd argue that's part of the great pet store feel. Our guest experience specialist Grace was able to give us some great guidance and especially helpful for pairing our toys with our dogs. Everything you've heard is 100% true and then some! Obviously the pets are the main event, and every time I go it's top-notch -- healthy and perfectly cared for. Don't skip kittens! This review is for the grooming department, not the store. I had an appointment and was immediately greeted with "I have to let you know that I am very behind." When I asked by how much I was told 2-4 hours. I had never gone to a groomer before as this is my fathers dog, and when I questioned why so long she became immediately SO RUDE. I honestly was stunned at how she was speaking to me. I had only questioned it and had been keeping an even voice; it was simply a discussion to me. Not to her. She treated me like an idiot because I didn't know how long it should take (and honestly for a shampoo and dog trim)? She then told me she would just cancel me then. I was stunned. I walked out and spoke to the person behind the register who was VERY kind and apologetic. 5 stars for her. I think your groomer might have told me it was her last day, and if so, good. If not, it should be. We took our old dog to a do-it-yourself shampoo place where they were so kind and even did the dogs nails. Please Petco, vet your groomers that they not only can groom dogs, but can also handle a little stress and focus on customer service. read more

So I went in at 20 min till closing to buy a hamster my daughter picked the one she wanted than seen another she wanted but the person said it was to close till closing so I was ok with that and bought one well my daughter bought with her $ the next day went in to buy the other one she wanted and they refused to sale it to me I asked why and she said that another employee refused to sale it to me the night before because I only had one cage and said they have to be alone I never told her I only had one cage we have a few not our first time buying a hamster.she asked me do u have a cage and I said yeah I have a cage she didn't ask me how many I had but was very rude the funny thing is they were acting like I was gonna keep them together which I wasn't planning too meanwhile they had 2 to 3 hamsters pet cage lol anyways I had to show them a picture of my cage before they finally sold it to me the names of the employees are Sam and Rachel very rude people and I won't be a customer of there's anymore they made me feel lower than low very embarrassing in front of other customers and after I finally got the hamster they asked me if I wanted this or that I said no and took my business elsewhere and they lost a long time customer because of there rudeness very very unprofessional find another line of work if u don't like your job I will most likely be returning there hamster. read more

Just want to give a heads up on all the pets lover out there. Petco may sent you an email on a certain discounts and coupons but if you didn't print out the coupons at the time of your purchase, you will not be receiving a discount. That being said; I think they need to keep up with modern age of society. We are not living in the 80s anymore, Advance Technologies are upon us now a day. People don't have time to print coupons to make a purchase. Petco should honor a scan code from a smartphones to make their purchase. Petsmart sound pretty good for any of my future purchases. read more

When I gave up and decided to search on my own, I saw her yelling at customer who does that? I can't imagine how she treats her employees. If o could give zero stars I would. I came in for a nail trim as I was told by a neighboring Petco that this location takes walks in. I showed up and was immediately told they couldn't take me. I asked to speak to the manager. I explained I had drive 20 minutes to get there and asked if there is anyway they could squeeze me in. She checked in with the groomers and was able to get me in 2 hours later. I walked into the grooming area to give them my information. Tatiana one of the groomer continued to tell me they don't take walk ins. I responded by saying I understand and there was no need to keep telling me. She began to raise her voice at me, roll her eyes and huff and puff. I asked if she needed anything else from me and she said show up to your appointment on time. At that point I knew I wasn't going to come back but given the way I was treated I couldn't engage with her anymore so I didn't cancel. I went to another location later in that same day and I was told that he clackamas location had put a refer to vet note on my dogs record. I asked the groomers at the NE location what constitutes a dog to be referred to vet. They told me only if the dog was aggressive. I notified them my dig was never seen at by the groomers at the clackamas location so how do they know my dig is aggressive? So they falsified my records. They never serviced my dog so why was she referred to vet. I was obviously upset. I couldn't believe the falsified records like that which is blatantly illegal. I asked to speak to manager at the new location and he made a phone call to the clackamas location and they said I was so rude I am banned from recieving pet services at Petco. I was appalled at what transpired that day. I typically go to the Vancouver location (mill plain) (I was in Portland that day) and they always service me and we have never had an issue which was indicative of the year long record on my records. The manager at the division location also told another manager that I am not welcome based on Tatianas account of what transpired at the clackamas location. I felt as though I was discriminated against as I watch how Tatiana treated other customers, she was pleasant and kind and I am a woman of color. I am hurt and sad that this happened. so i went here to get my animals shots and the vet tech was very un professional the first time i let it go because i thought they were just busy but this time i was done the vet tech was rude and grabbed my cat by her back and not her neck like your supposed to and got mad at me when i was un Velcroing the thing on her carrier so she could get her out. read more

This store feels unorganized and cluttered. Often there are pallets of stuff as tall as me blocking access to pet food. The canned cat food is disorganized, not always lined up. They also have about 3 aisles of canned cat food and there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to how it is 'organized'. I don't like spending time there. On the other hand PetSmart is well organized and the store is clean. Someone must come around often to keep the pet food organized and in its place. I've never encountered it messy. It is just a better shopping experience. Even though it is further from my home, I prefer shopping there. Plus I've never seen unpacked pallets of food in the pet food aisles. Mud Bay is also pleasant to shop at and there always seems to be a staff member to help; they are quite knowledgeable. Holistic Pet Center in Clackamas is great to shop at. Great knowledgeable staff, and a great selection of pet food. PetCo is at the bottom of my list. I hope the manager decides to invest in presenting the store in a better light. Wouldn't hurt to give the staff a bit more training. read more

We came here for a new mouse after all except for one of the ones from Creature Comforts died. The pet salesman was very helpful and was happy to get us ready to take care of our new mouse, which we later named Fireball. I also looked at the other pet rodents, especially the ferrets and gerbils. As we were in the checkout line, I noticed the big "Adoption Center" sign. I asked my mom if I could see the cats, and she said yes. Then a horribly saddening thought hit me: these cats may never get adopted. I cried the whole car ride home, so you may be thinking, "Why would he give Petco FIVE STARS if going made him cry for forty minutes?" My answer? Petco has such a big sign for the Adoption Center, as well as having a sign with all the cats that got adopted, which makes me realize that they really do care for these foster pets. read more

I went to the Sunnyside store this evening to buy 30 goldfish. They had no gold fish and very few other types of fish. I walked the length of the store twice I finally found a very large youth in a Petco shirt. He was telling a couple of girls how to clean a bird cage. I waited for a minute or two and I saw a man in what looked like Petco shirt bringing I'm a cart. If I get one the parking slots along the front of the door, woo-hoo! Otherwise, I get to play chicken with the incoming traffic as I try to tote around 2, 35 lbs bags of dog food, a 10 lbs bag for the cat and anything else that caught me eye to the register. As I do this every few weeks, it's all about going off -peak times such as an hour before closing on Tuesday. Saturday morning isn't too bad either and with Starbucks next door, I get my caffeine kick start for "Errand Marathon". This location seems to be solid on inventory levels and with the buy 10 bags get 1 free, the prices are reasonable. read more

I scheduled an appointment for my dog Whiskey. I was told to make sure I had his Rabies vaccine, which I did. Then we got there and were told that the rabies vaccine certificate wasn't good enough. That they needed something faxed to them on letter head. I offered to call my vet and have them fax a copy of all his vaccines. But that again wasn't good enough. Wilco, and Petsmart have both had no issues accepting his certificate. His trainer had no issue, and Clackamas County had no issue accepting it. When I called and scheduled the appointment I told them I had the certificate that it was a handwritten certificate and where it was from and it wasn't an issue. It didn't become an issue until I showed up with my very well behaved German Shepard because apparently Petco only wants to groom little dogs. I won't even shop at Petco again let alone recommend grooming. read more

I have just read the previous reviews and people always complain about such dumb things. Parking : rarely ever full...always one becomes readily available. Large bags: I bet if you asked someone would carry it out for you...I asked them to assemble an extra large dog kennel and they did at no extra charge and hauled it it my car. Excellent stock Training: it's great ...Shawna does a great job and part of the training issues are to have distractions and let your dog learn to behave with those distractions. Wilco does have cheaper grooming There are surly people everywhere...get a life! read more

The Clackamas Petco is a joke when it comes to staff to help you. Three times we've walked into the fish department and nobody is around, we stand there and stand there and nobody to help us. I went there this morning 4/27/19 to buy 30 crickets and once again there was nobody back there. The store was pretty much empty at 10:20am. Petsmart is a little farther away but I will continue to do my pet shopping there. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE! I know this sounds ridiculous but I have going here for some time. I ventured out and tried The World's Best Cat Litter in Lavender, instead of original. Immediately started giving me a headache. Manager says...we can't exchange anything or give money back if you have used all the product. He must have been newer cause he was having some trouble on the computer and to top that off the computer he was using was just crap!!!! Anyways, his co worker, Tiffany was a total bi***!!!!! I feel so bad for him. She was talking to him like he was dumb and told him to stop talking! I seriously couldn't believe it. It was busy because of all the hectic going on in the world. This rating is based on this Petco's grooming staff. I took my cat in to be groomed, I let him go for to long and his hair was very matted, I think her name was Heather? I could be wrong but she did a wonderful job with him, she didn't cut him at all and I know it was a long and hard job she had to do but she she did great! read more

I was looking for a budgie to be friends with the one that I got about a month ago. They are such social animals I could tell that she was lonely while I was at work and I decided to go for it. They have a large selection of parakeets even some other kinds of parents. The parakeets are about $25 and the cages are about 40? A lot of different toys and food. Really big store with lots of fish, kittens and other things for pets that I'm just not in the market and so I couldn't tell you that much about it but it looks like a nice store, the lady who helped us was really great and calm so I didn't feel like the bird was just stressed. If someone is looking for a bird I would recommend it. I've heard that some of them even hand feed some of the birds to get them used to people and the one that I got from Petco is actually more calm and well behaved than the one that I got from a private breeder LOL so I would recommend them. read more

I waited a whole month for a grooming appointment. When I got there they had me do paperwork and while I was busy signing, they forcefully took my dog to their kennel area. My dog needs affirmation that I'll be back to pick her up. Since she didn't have that, she viewed herself being taken away from her owner. My dog has been to multiple grooming appointments and have never showed an ounce of aggression. So I'm really wondering what the hell they did to her while I was gone for barely 5 minutes. When I tried rescheduling and explaining the situation on how roughly she was handled. I was told she has a note on her file that says 'refer out' and they didn't feel comfortable taking her. Again, this is the sweetest dog and have never heard about aggression towards anyone. They didn't have a smooth transition and she felt unsafe with the groomers there. Also, very inconvenient that I can't stay for the appointment and ensure her treatment is nice and not rough like this location has done. read more

awful costumer service, all the workers where mean and not willing to help you at all. I asked to see a betta fish while one of the workers was putting them back on the shelf and she yelled at me and told me to wait until she was done and that she was trying to get off her shift. ... i was also looking to adopt a kitten and fell inlove with one of the simease, i asked if i could hold him and the lady working the adoption booth said theres no reason i need to hold it, and that someone already dropped a kitten earlier that day so she doesnt want to deal with more costumers dropping them. i walked out, it was an awful experience. read more

My first time I visited the PETCO on sunnyside road, I was purchasing a Savannah Monitor Lizard. I passed through the front doors only to notice that nobody was at the registers and as I walked up the ramp to the second level, I nearly broke my ankle tripping on a rip in the tile that had been poorly sealed by duct tape. I then then passed a clerk shelving some cat food on the left hand side, I politely asked if I could get some assistance in purchasing a small animal in the reptile section, and she told me she would call someone to help me, so I waited.. and waited.. and waited.. and waited some more.. 20min passed by so I went to the front and got some help myself. I then went back up the ramp, passed all the foods and to the reptile section. I pointed at the Savannah I wanted, and the clerk said "Oh thank goodness someone is giving him a home :)" so I said "Yes I am very excited to take care of him :) They really are great lizards" But that's when I noticed the temperature gauge was only at 80dgrs F and the basking spot was 105. The air temp is supposed to be at 90F-100F, and the basking spot 120F-135F, I pointed out the error and she told me she would fix that for the next time they get one in. When I got home with him, I picked him up out of the box and noticed he showed little to no resistance, I inspected him and noticed he had bubbles under his jaw and in between his gums and lips, and he was sneezing (Which can be caused by a respitory infection due to bad heating in the cage.. Hmp, Imagine that). So, me being the commited reptile hobbiest that I am, I made him an appoitment at banfeild pet hostpital for the next day and gave him lots of calories. WHen I woke up the next day, I looked at him and noticed that he wasn't moving.. I tried to pick him up and he was as hard and stiff as a rock.. He was dead.. SO I returned him and the same clerk that had helped me was at the register, I told her the news and get this.. She tells me that this one had a disease and she would give me my money back.. A DISEASE!?!?!? You sold me a reptile with a disease.. COOL! So I got my money went to a petstore by the clackamas aquatic center called Animal House, It's a small locally owned buisness but they seemed to care alot more about the animals there. I inspected the reptiles and everything checked out :) I even purchased my baby monitor for $15.00 Cheaper, he was eating lots and to this day he is a healthy 1ft long 8lB juvenile lizard :) Then, Yesterday when I was in the area of PETCO looking for jobs, I was really in a hurry and had to get him a few pinky mice, so I scurried in and did some looking around, and I asked a diferent clerk if they had any pinkies. He didn't know what they were so I had to educate him and he told me they didn't have any.. I new that was BS so I looked around some more and to my suprise *Sarcasm* I found the frozen rodents. I picked up 4 bags of pinkies each for a $1.74. When I arrived home, I thawed them out in warm water (While still in the bag) and opended them up only to find out that they had completely ripped me off. The pinkies looked like they had literly been born the day I got them.. I know pinkies are small but really... take my word for it they were no bigger than my finger nail.. I went out in my backyard and reached into the can where I breed my medium sized crickets, and held one medium cricket up to the mouse.. The cricket was bigger than the mouse.. They completely lost my buisness and I can saftely say that they couldnt ave done a worse job even if they tried. My advice? Try Animal house, they actually care about the well being of there animals. or petsmart. read more

I have been a member of petco since I can remember, and even my mother was. But more and more I have become more unimpressed with this business. EVERYTIME I spend more time searching/waiting for an employee than I do shopping, who will then have no personality and is awkward. I took my dog in to get groomed here a fews years ago because my small, local place was booked up. I ended up paying way too much and it was a bad cut. Okay, fast forward 2 yrs...once again my regular place was booked solid and I really wanted to get my dog in. I figured I would give Petco another chance since it had been so long and it was 1 bad experience. I will NEVER take my dog in there to be groomed again. Of course the cost was still high, but the cut was even worse this time and my dog brought fleas home. My children could have given our cocker spaniel a better field cut at home for free nad we wouldn't have to deal with fles. I DO NOT suggest you bring your pet here for grooming. read more

I was at one of your facilities yesterday to have my dog bathed and nails cut. My appointment time was 12:00 noon. I was there in time for what i thought was my dogs time to be taken care of. I told them that i would be in the area and to call me when they were done.I was informed that it would be at least a 3 hour window. I used to do all of my dogs grooming.I didn't want her put in a kennel as she is a rescue dog that is affraid of everything she is not familiar with. I was told that in order to make that happen that it would be an additional $10 dollars to start. So my question is why is it that i need an appointment if they are not going to start on her. At this point there is no one else is the store and no one is doing any grooming.I dont hear any dogs barking or any pet noise at all.I knew that i was going to be charged 40.00 for the service and i was ok with that.Then i was told that the additional 10.00 would apply if they had to start on her right away.This is the first time this has happened and last. I will no longer be using your service. In the past i have not had this problem. I felt like i was being held hostage for money. If no one was working and there was no one waiting, why should i have to give them a 3 hour window to bath and cut my dogs nails.Is it too much to ask for good service?
