I hated these classes, she spent 90 minutes instead of 60 minutes. She meandered and bloviated and was just plain unorganized. She was difficult to work with and we really didn't got anything out of this. If anything she made things worse. I'd be surprised if the place was in business much longer. read more

C. J. Is the 4th or 5th dog trainer I've been to over the years and she is the best. I'm old and I've had many dogs. Most I have been able to train myself. But I've tried training my little poodle for two years. He is very stubborn and energetic. C. J. Is helping me make a gentleman of him. Everybody has noticed a big improvement in his behavior since we've been going to class. C. J. has some creative ideas about training in addition to the standard procedures. C. I adopted a husky mix - about a year old, from the Vancouver Humane Society that had been a stray in Pecos,TX. He is smart and very lovable, but was very anxious, fearful at times, energetic, stubborn, and difficult to control. CJ's classes were recommended to me. Luckily I was able to get him in the Beginning Class and I felt so supported. CJ truly cares about dogs and her business and she is good at both. She goes above and beyond to help you the owner in creating a bond with your dog. She helped me become a better trainer for my dog and gave me the tools and confidence that I needed to work with my dog. Throughout the 6 weeks of classwork and practicing at home I watched my dog change under CJ's direction and demonstrations in class with her own dog. CJ and her assistant are also kind, knowledgeable and patience. CJ sends you home with written guidelines after each class for your practice for the week, which are so helpful to refer to. The best money I'll ever spend on my dog! I never knew there was anything like CJ's puppy kindergarten. I've had dogs all my life. I've taken dog training courses before and they were always about teaching the dog to sit, stay, down, etc.. I thought I knew a lot about dogs but she showed me so much more about how to really communicate and enjoy my dog. Sure, her first class is a little long on the toys and treats. You don't know why toys and treats matter until you've sat through a few of her classes. She'll help you UNDERSTAND WHY your dog does what he does and HOW you can make that a happy thing for both of you. CJ helps you learn how to make your dog a part of your family that you are not ashamed of. If you follow CJ's advice you will not need to put your dog in the back room when company comes over. You will not need to put them in the crate so you can watch tv or have quiet time. You will be able to have them by your side no matter what you are doing and enjoy them. After all, isn't that why you brought your dog home with you in the first place? To have them by your side and enjoy them? It's like having the dog whisperer right here in Vancouver. I just LOVE her and her staff. I WISH that all of the dog shelters in the area REQUIRED new puppy owners to attend a class like her Puppy Kindergarten. If you follow all of the advice you hear in her classes you can confidently say that "Everything you ever needed to know, you learned in CJ's Puppy Kindergarten" -that's a FACT! I would not take another class here. We took the puppy kindergarten class. There were too many pups in class which allowed for no 1:1 assistance and no time for questions. The first class is without pup. The last two classes are spent on an "agility course," plus puppy play time. So only 3 real training classes. It seems they provide "training light" so you'll sign up for the next class. No thanks. read more

My husband and I have really enjoyed taking our new pup to CJ's. We're almost done with our current session of Puppy Kindergarten and have felt that she has really added to our relationship with our new family member. She's great at explaining the behaviors of your pup, and positive ways to correct unwanted behaviors. We came her as a referral from our vet, and haven't been disappointed. You may hear other reviews talk about the facility being outdated, and in need of some repairs, but her track record with training her own dogs, including the one she brings to class, can easily outweigh the building needing some minor repairs and paint. With just two classes left, we have decided to continue brining our dog here to have her socialized with other pups in a save environment (she doesn't lax at all on her vaccination policy), as well as continue building on the foundation she's received in Kindergarten. It'll take some trust to understand why she trains the way that she does - as she does have some solid rules - but she is clearly an expert on her craft, very friendly, and knows dogs. Very pleased with the dog training courses offered here. I have taken three courses here with my dog. CJ is very thorough and is a master at her craft. You need not look further than her own dog to see she is an excellent trainer. After taking this course, I felt my dog had come a long ways with in regards to her obedience level. We started puppy training at CJ's when our pup was just shy of 3 months old. The socialization, potty training and basic command techniques were SO easy to follow and effective. We decided to continue with the basic obedience class and are very happy with everything we've learned and how well-behaved our little guy is. We plan to do rally training in the future. read more

Beware of CJ's, and DO NOT SIGN that contract OR PAY until AFTER the first puppy kindergarten (primer) class. We made this mistake and unfortunately will not only never get two + hours of our life back but lost our money because we paid and signed the contract up front. Upon entering CJ's, it is cold, dark, rundown and dirty. CJ was at the front desk and did not greet us - she literally barked at us (no pun intended) for our paperwork. No hello, welcome, how's the puppy, I'm CJ and will be your trainer, nothing. Fine, whatever. We get through all of that and then proceed to sit in an uncomfortable metal chair for the next two hours through her infomercial, where she literally passed around an entire 4'x8' table of products to everyone in the class. I don't know about you but I do not need to fondle cow hooves and half eaten rawhides and rope toys to learn which are good for my dog. CJ also did not need to read the ingredients off each bag of dog treats. I can also do that for myself, thank you. Because of the 2+ hour infomercial, CJ only does 5 classes WITH puppies. She also does not limit the class size. We were pleasantly surprised by Petsmart who for the same price offers 6 classes of training with puppies, has an experienced trainer (though she's retiring in July) and has a clean, well-lit facility with good parking - AND limits class sizes. PLUS Petsmart guarantees their training, so if you miss a class or just want more training you can go back for as long as you like FOR FREE. Oh, and did I mention they're friendly? Shame on CJs for being such a poorly-run local business. CJ is unfriendly and all about rules, regulations, and NOT having fun. I'm sorry but I got a puppy to enjoy my life, and am attending puppy kindergarten elsewhere to have some fun while teaching my dog to be an upstanding citizen. Don't say I didn't warn you. read more

C.J.'s came highly recommended by several friends and neighbors so I was anxious to take my lab/aussie mix in for some obedience lessons. Walking was a chore as she pulled so hard it wasn't enjoyable. We had been working on sit, however, I learned more tools to make learning easier for the pet. Come and wait are so important to protecting your dog and C.J. makes sure you understand how and why you need to train on these skills.
