Paws Down and Julie stepped in when another local training facility refused to tailor a program to…read moreget my dog, Kemper, and I where we needed to go before a last minute move overseas. I am a disabled combat veteran, but do not qualify for a 'service animal' from non-profits because I do not have the 'correct' diagnosis, even though I suffer from the same exact symptoms as those with PTSD. My wife's mother, who lives in Europe, recently had a stroke and my wife has been by her side since early August. If I hope to see my wife at all over the next several years, because of her and my commitment to ensure that her mother gets the care and attention she deserves, we needed to be much closer than the Pacific NW, hence our uprooting. In order to have Kemper fly with me in the cabin on a grueling 10-hour trans-Atlantic flight, he needed some several skills which he was lacking when we adopted him from the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society after six years of being abandoned and abused, for no reason, by one owner after another. Even with his unjust and unconscionable treatment early in life, he is one of the sweetest and dogs I have ever known. Julie and Kemper quickly developed a strong bond and she was willing to work with me one-on-one, tailoring a training plan for both of us to get us where we need to be with just two months before boarding the plane. Having a Master's in Psychology, I am an expert in operant and classical conditioning, but lacked the understanding of how dogs think, so Julie was training both of us along the way. Kemper picked-up on things quickly and me, not so much, but we were compelled to get the job done and succeed in our mission, no room for error. Paws Down is not exactly cheap when it comes to private training, but Julie did not charge for travel time to our home and routinely stayed after the allotted one-hour appointment times. Yesterday, less than two months after starting with Julie, Kemper passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen test and his certificate is on the way, arriving well before we need it for travel to our new home. Thank you Paws Down and Julie for helping me ensure that my support animal and I make it safely to Europe, reuniting our family after moths apart. All the current active staff working at this specific location have demonstrated & proven how extremely capable & exhaustively knowledgeable as trainers, dog behavior specialists, groomers, etc. They have exceedingly created a trustworthy controlled environment setting that makes me reassuringly safe to entrust the safety & wellbeing of my 4-legged son. They have gone above & beyond for my puppy & I could not praise/thank them enough for their time, energy & effort to nurture my puppy's confidence & needs. Including assessing & addressing his trauma triggers being bullied as the "runt" of his litter, that occurred prior to his rescue. I am thoroughly enthralled with their most adorable & transparently informative daily report cards that are released after their daycare reservation. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to cultivate & nurture their doggo-puppers development & overall wellbeing (with a heaping side of well deserved spoiled treatment)! Will definitely be a continuing member, as long as they will have Beemo & I, after we officially move to the PNW.

Argos loved working with her and learned very quickly. We appreciated that she came to our home, so that Argos could train in his normal environment before heading to new places and meeting new puppies. I enjoyed her positive approach and how she was super knowledgeable. You can just tell she really loves her job and cares about helping people. I had previously been having issues getting my puppy into obedience classes and was actually asked to leave a group class once because my puppy was too aggressive with others. Deborah taught me the skills to get on my dog's level and find a way to help her be more behaved and overall strengthen our relationship. We worked on many things, everything from jumping, to sitting and waiting for food, and she even helped me take my dog on a walk to work on leash pulling. One of the best parts about Patient Pawz I feel is that Deborah not only lives up to the name by being patient with puppies, she is also extremely patient with owners and really does work to find a time that fits with your schedule as well.

The way my dog Rowan has calmed down with the training is wonderful, I get to watch him make decisions and I love seeing his brain calm down. Rowan was already my emotional support dog, but we needed him to be very well trained for when my husband comes home with his service dog. The staff kept us up to date several times a week with pictures on their Facebook page, and Shannon also called to update us. With the training package we chose, Man's Best Friend provided us with their Top Dog Academy online videos. We have lifetime access and we watched them several times at our own pace, we also watched the videos with our kids so they were fully aware of the expectations and new rules with our dog. The 3 hour training session with Shannon was so informative, Shannon clearly loves dogs and is very passionate about her business. She was patient with me, explained things clearly, answered all my questions, and really made me feel like I CAN be the leader my Rowan needs me to be. I know in my heart that Man's Best Friend will be there for us for the life of my Rowan. This training is worth every single penny and I am so grateful that I can trust myself and my Rowan to be a part of every aspect of my life. Thank you Shannon & everyone at Man's Best Friend! We LOVE you!
