Amazing and good! We had a special situation with a rescue dog and she was very helpful. We are glad we called her!

Paws Down and Julie stepped in when another local training facility refused to tailor a program to get my dog, Kemper, and I where we needed to go before a last minute move overseas. I am a disabled combat veteran, but do not qualify for a 'service animal' from non-profits because I do not have the 'correct' diagnosis, even though I suffer from the same exact symptoms as those with PTSD. My wife's mother, who lives in Europe, recently had a stroke and my wife has been by her side since early August. If I hope to see my wife at all over the next several years, because of her and my commitment to ensure that her mother gets the care and attention she deserves, we needed to be much closer than the Pacific NW, hence our uprooting. In order to have Kemper fly with me in the cabin on a grueling 10-hour trans-Atlantic flight, he needed some several skills which he was lacking when we adopted him from the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society after six years of being abandoned and abused, for no reason, by one owner after another. Even with his unjust and unconscionable treatment early in life, he is one of the sweetest and dogs I have ever known. Julie and Kemper quickly developed a strong bond and she was willing to work with me one-on-one, tailoring a training plan for both of us to get us where we need to be with just two months before boarding the plane. Having a Master's in Psychology, I am an expert in operant and classical conditioning, but lacked the understanding of how dogs think, so Julie was training both of us along the way. Kemper picked-up on things quickly and me, not so much, but we were compelled to get the job done and succeed in our mission, no room for error. Paws Down is not exactly cheap when it comes to private training, but Julie did not charge for travel time to our home and routinely stayed after the allotted one-hour appointment times. Yesterday, less than two months after starting with Julie, Kemper passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen test and his certificate is on the way, arriving well before we need it for travel to our new home. I found Julie on Yelp, desperate to find somebody help me train my puppy. Julie was just amazing: very professional, knowledgeable, always on time, super communicative via email before and after our sessions. I never felt judged and she patiently showed me all the "tricks" to use to handle my dog. She not only taught me to help my dog behave better, but I also to learned to "read" the dog's behavior. This was the best money ever invested into a dog. There were times I was in tears because I did not know what to do anymore. Julie is an excellent dog trainer, who helped to turn my insanely nervous rescue who went Cujo when she saw another dog into a polite amazing dog! She is extremely patient and helpful in resolving any behaviors that come up. Pepper now walks happily with other dogs! Big thank you to Julie - who helped me enjoy my walks again with my greyhound Ozzie. In the middle of our walks...Ozzie would freeze like his legs were stuck in cement.. and he would not move. I even had to have my huband come pick us up in the car to get us back home... and I was afraid to take Ozzie on walks again becaue of all the freezing he would do. So I called Julie to see if she could help. After one lesson, Julie showed me what to do... and success!! - I now enjoy walks again with my greyhound! Also - I could never teach Ozzie how to jump in my car. He would not even get his front paws up. Had to lift all 85 pounds of him everytime - Julie had him LEAPING in my car first try ! Julie is amazing! We have gone through 2 classes so far. I started the puppy class with a very shy and timid 12 week old puppy who didn't want to walk through a store because of too many people/dogs/strange things, was afraid of men so he would bark at them while hiding behind me and just wanted to hide under my chair instead of socializing with the other puppies in class. By the end of the first class, my puppy was socializing with another mellow puppy and starting to play. By the third class, he was socializing with all the puppies and playing like they were old friends. He now plays really well with other dogs. She does a really great job of teaching the dogs to play nicely (and teaching owners how to keep their puppy playing nicely) and she is great at getting shy dogs to come out of their shell without any pressure at all. She gave me great tips on how to socialize my puppy to trusted men and how to help him out of his fear. He is still working on it but now at 7 months he is no longer barking and cowering in fear when he encounters a man he doesn't know. He enjoys visiting all of the men in my office even the ones he was terrified of at first. Our puppy also had an issue wanting to use my daughter as a chew toy and Julie helped us tremendously with that also. She is realistic in what she expects and knows so much about the different breeds. She can read your dog really well and knows how to help your puppy/dog be the best they can be. We are looking forward to our next class with Julie! read more

My dog is such a well behaved, smart dog thanks to Julie! I get to show off her manners, and tricks to everyone who comes over, and everyone is always very impressed. Her training is so easy to do, and she's so patient with you and your furry one! I was able to use the same tools on my rescue!
