Trainers are very kind and willing to answer lots of questions. In group settings, they are very thoughtful of the dynamics between the different dogs to allow more reactive dogs to feel safe and minimizing class disruptions for less reactive dogs. I love that it is a low pressure environment, but still offering many options to add complexity if we choose. It allows us to set our own pace and be as rigid or lax in our training as we choose, or to give our pup extra challenges. We have a dog that needs to be constantly challenged, so we have done a combination of behavior classes and "fun" classes (agility/tricks) and all have been great experiences. We just started puppy manners class (completed second class so far). This place is fabulous! Lucy is an excellent trainer. The class is small so the pups can really learn to focus. We've all learned so much in just 2 classes. What is really fabulous about HeDog training is the extensive variety of classes they offer for ongoing training. My issue is that they gave me a really hard time when it came to accommodating my disability. More than once I was attacked via email for having to reschedule after medical emergencies. Before purchasing the one on one training package, I discussed my disability to make sure they'd be able and willing to deal with it. They said yes and it was lip service. I was given a really hard time when I had to reschedule and all in all and was attacked about my disability issues after multiple brain surgeries. I decided to stop after this. This has become the most negative experience I had when working with my pets. We came to High Expectations when we lost our former Trainer, due to the fact that she moved out of the local area. When we had the first event, the current trainer even noted the way the other dog just took over the room when he entered with her energy! This was when our dog shut down the first time. Then it happened the following session. There was then a week without a class and we returned last night for our final class. Our pup went into insecure mode the moment we walked in the room. The other dog was not present this session but our dog had gone from being a well trained dog to a dog who was afraid of her own shadow! Sad part of all of this is that this class was a replete of a class we had with our fir We have a 7 month old puppy in another class and I am questioning if we are really getting the correct training. read more

I absolutely love High Expectations! I have a three month old puppy and was looking for a place to socialize him. What drew me to this place was that it is actually school for puppies! They are there for four hours and they learn how to socialize with other dogs and they are being trained the whole time. My dog has learned so much and when I pick him up he is so tired he won't even try to walk to the car, I have to carry him! He sleeps for the rest of the day, which is a nice break for a puppy owner. I highly recommend high expectations, I happily drive all the way from Portland. Also, I'm starting the puppy/owner classes this weekend and am so excited! read more

Katie is awesome!! I recommend her everywhere I go, anytime someone mentions needing to train their puppy. Her class was a god-send for our puppy. she helped us understand how our communication could send mixed messages, how to avoid certain behaviors, how to praise good ones, basic obedience, how to ring a bell to go outside (thank you!), and she interspersed the training with puppy play as a reward (so cute :). Each class was packed full of important information you don't want to miss; when our pup got sick, she offered to do a make-up session, for us to attend another class. Doggone it we picked a good one when we chose Katie! I have two Cane Corso puppies and started with training shortly after we got them. Katie has given sound advice that has proven to be very worthwhile. I am taking my dog to puppy training classes and they are incredibly helpful. The instructors are kind and easy to understand. They make training very simple and my dog is responding beautifully. I have also dropped by dog off for puppy school. It is combination of socialization, play time and training reinforcement. He loves the time to play with other dogs and I appreciate their help developing consistent training and also the chance to run errands while my dog is well cared for. We have used Katie for several of our dogs over the past 8 years ranging in age from rescued puppies, to a rescued 5 yr old pittie who is now a Canine Good Citizen thanks to Katie and does dog safety talks in local schools. Her knowledge with different breeds, temperaments, and needs (for both people and dogs) is amazing. We have done her group classes which are small and use her personal indoor and outdoor training spaces, and her private sessions for our more difficult rescues. Katie was recommended to us from our pup's daycare. He's a high energy lab mix who's been getting away with a lot, and has been acting out as a result. While we've been able to do well with some things, it was obvious we were getting a lot wrong. Katie was immediately able to assess him and where he stood with his behaviors, and where we were with technique. We started with some of the basics, and it's exactly what we needed. We took him through puppy kindergarten and basic obedience at another place months ago, but quickly forgot those techniques, or some were lost in translation due to the class size. We made significant progress after only 1 private session! Katie is worth every penny and I can't wait to continue training with her.
