Disgusting experience. After my cat was missing for four weeks, I brought him in emotional and desperate for help. The woman there was unbelievably rude, cold, and careless. She didn't even turn the microchip scanner on, then lied and said there was no chip making me question if my own cat was mine. She also claimed he was 2-3 years old when he's under one. Total lack of empathy, professionalism, or basic decency. Went to another vet right after they scanned him properly, found the chip instantly, and treated us with the kindness this place completely lacked. Avoid this place at all costs.

Miss Cleo says thank you for the great care

My sweet pup had emergent decline and they took the most amazing care of her during her ICU stays . Her night nurse Claire was beyond AMAZING and let me visit her as well as messaged me pictures and updates of my Cleo . I knew she was in great hands with a team that truly cared about her. The internalist, Dr. Andersen, is top notch. She was able to focus on what was going on with my pup so she got prompt treatment and a diagnosis. She is very communicative, patient with all my questions, and I have absolute confidence in her. I honestly can't thank this team enough as I know I could have had a very different outcome if we wouldn't have gone there . Thank you -- Erika and Miss Cleo girl

The short version: they saved our dog…read more First off the thing to understand about this place is it's essentially 1 large open area so as a pet parent you see EVERYTHING. While they do have rooms for families to be in private or for waiting with a reactive animal you are in an open main area with other families and see the staff interacting with patients, parents and each other. IMO this makes the medicine they practice better because of the accountability. They have a small snack area with tea and coffee, especially good if you are there much longer than you anticipated. Since I brought our dog alone (my husband stayed home with our son) the front desk staff gladly watch our pup when I needed to use the restroom. Being an open concept you can't help but overhear the phone calls taken by the staff from concerned pet parents. An item of note was call after call taken from concerned pet parents calling because their animal had ingested *insert food of concern*. Instead of telling people to come in without knowing if it was a true concern the staff and doctors asked numerous questions about the animal and food ingested to confirm if it was necessary for their animal to be brought in. I got the sense that they wanted to prevent someone from coming in needlessly, not only saving that person's finances but enabling them to focus on the ones that truly needed help. Keeping in mind this is an emergency clinic it's expected for there to be a premium with costs but what I observed was a staff that did what they could to provide care to their patients as effectively as possible. In one case a pair of rabbits were brought in that were sent home without charge. They were found to not actually be having an emergency but just needed to be given the correct amount of medication (the wife gave the husband the 'I told you so' look lol). Our Veg story: We brought our 9 month old puppy to VEG on Christmas day with a suspected intestinal blockage. My husband had called ahead so they were expecting us. After Cera's initial intake they provided an initial estimate which they were happy to scale back (we declined initial labs in favor of just getting x-rays to confirm the suspected blockage). They proposed a round of meds and fluids to see if the mass would have any movement and sent us home with instructions to return later that evening for a 2nd round of xrays. I took Cera home so we could have Christmas dinner with our family and brought her back after her kid went to bed. Unfortunately the 2nd x-rays confirmed the mass had not budged and surgical intervention was needed to save her life. When discussing Cera the doctor asked me questions about our family, I shared that Cera's kid, my 10 year old son, has autism and Cera was very important to him. She asked about their relationship and said it would be good to bring him to see her in the morning. They got Cera comfortable and they enabled me to stay with her until they were ready to start her surgery. I went home to get some sleep and the doctor called me a few hours later to report the surgery was successful. Later that morning I brought my son to see her. I had heard the doctor tell the staff about my son before her surgery and the staff were so kind and accommodating with my son, assuring him they would help her to come home as soon as she was able. We went home for dinner and later after I got him to bed I went back, prepared to spent a 2nd night there. Upon my arrival the doctor said that pending a good next few hours I should be able to take her home before morning. Keeping in mind our bill was more than I care to admit or thought I'd ever spending on vet care getting her home was not only good for her but meant we would have to be charged for a 2nd night's stay. Just after 1am I drove home with our sweet Cera and had a very happy son in the morning when he came downstairs to find us home. Our family is so grateful. Cera is doing great & expected to make a full recovery.

I recently had to bring my 9‑year‑old Rottweiler to this veterinary ER after he suddenly stopped…read moreeating and began coughing. The team here correctly diagnosed him with right‑sided heart failure, even though the underlying cause wasn't immediately clear. Unfortunately, we had to return the next day as his condition rapidly declined, and he ultimately passed. I want to be very clear: his passing was not due to any lack of effort or care from this team. What stood out most was their open‑concept treatment area, which allows pet owners to stay right beside their animals during critical moments. Being able to stand next to my dog, see what was happening, and feel included in the process meant more than I can express. I can only imagine how stressful it must be for the staff to work with owners watching every move, yet they remained compassionate, calm, and focused the entire time. If I had to be picky, some of their equipment--like the ultrasound probe--was a bit small for a large‑breed dog, which made imaging more difficult. But even with that limitation, they still managed to accurately diagnose what was going on and worked with impressive speed to try to save his life. Despite the heartbreaking outcome, I left feeling grateful. They cared about my dog, and they cared about us. I would highly recommend this ER to anyone facing an emergency with their pet.

From the moment we arrived, everyone was kind, caring, and genuinely compassionate. My cat was diagnosed with a urinary tract disease, and they took the time to explain everything in a way that was easy to understand. They were incredibly reassuring, answered all of my questions with patience, and never made me feel rushed or pressured into making decisions. What meant the most was how supportive they were. They truly cared not only about my cat's health but also about making sure I felt informed and comforted throughout the entire experience. It's clear that everyone there has a true passion for helping animals and the people who love them. I'm so grateful for the exceptional care they provided and would highly recommend Tanasbourne Veterinary Emergency to anyone in need of emergency veterinary care. The receptionist confirmed they would see my dog. I checked in 15 minutes later, explained the situation, and filled out the questionnaire. I would be waiting at least an additional 4 hours to see a vet if I chose to stay. 24/7 emergency coverage is not guaranteed at this location.

I found the entire staff very supportive and helpful. In both cases, there really wasn't anything to be done, both cats were elderly and sick, and I knew I was bringing them in for the last time. I really appreciated the staff and the vet's care, one cat had end stage renal disease, and the vet was very informative and caring about what his labs meant, etc. They have a very nice room set aside for those who are saying goodbye to their pets. I realize my experience doesn't have anything to do with acute problems in younger animals that may need surgery, etc., but I was impressed with the compassion and with the speed in which they took care of both of my cats when we were experiencing end of life choices.

We've been coming in for routine bloodwork and ongoing testing, and every visit has been seamless. The staff especially our vet tech Danielle are all consistently kind, professional, and attentive. Fast forward, we waited 4 hours and Jackie only received pain medication after I demanded it. My beloved kitty was of course euthanized after hours of agony. I am very angry at myself that I didn't go elsewhere after the first interaction and not being listened to. I guess I was in crisis mode and not thinking clearly. Later on I emailed with the practice manager and was told that the person would receive more training. They also refunded my money, but overall it was just customer service speak. The technician apparently didn't seek a superior's professional opinion, she didn't listen and she didn't seem to care. There needs to be a multi level system of checks, so that one inexperienced person is not in charge of who waits and who gets seen immediately. Knowing that my sweet kitty lingered and suffered for 4 hours, most of which were not even with me, haunts me to this day.

While I want to acknowledge that some members of your staff were incredibly compassionate, the overall experience was made significantly more painful due to the actions of one of your representatives, Kev. His lack of compassion, professionalism, and awareness during such a sensitive time left both myself and my daughter deeply upset. When we arrived, my daughter went inside to check us in while I remained in the car with Sophia. We had specifically hoped to use the side entrance to minimize any additional stress for Sophia, who was already in distress. Kev refused to allow my daughter to check us in because I was listed as the primary owner even after my daughter explained she was a family member. The only information that needed to be confirmed was my phone number, address, and email address, all information my daughter could have confirmed. Instead, I was forced to walk into the lobby while crying and emotionally overwhelmed. This lack of flexibility showed very little understanding of the situation. Once we were escorted into a room, Kev returned to review paperwork and discuss payment. Prior to our visit, I had contacted Dove Lewis prior to verify what charges I would be responsible for. Despite explaining that I had already confirmed these details, Kev argued with me while I was sitting there holding my dying dog in my lap. During such an emotional moment, the last thing anyone should have to do is debate billing. The vet assistant who cared for Sophia before the procedure was exceptionally kind, compassionate, and respectful. She carefully prepared Sophia, brought her back so we could spend our final moments together, and gently explained that we could notify the staff when we were ready. Her compassion made a tremendous difference during an incredibly painful time. The vet who performed Sophia's euthanasia was equally compassionate and handled the procedure with dignity and empathy. We are sincerely grateful for the care both of these individuals provided.  After Sophia had passed and we had spent time saying our final goodbyes, my daughter informed the staff that we were ready for them to take her. Kev entered the room and asked if we were ready to proceed with the euthanasia, completely unaware that the procedure had already been completed. This demonstrated a troubling lack of communication among the staff and forced us to relive an incredibly painful moment unnecessarily. To make matters worse, after realizing the procedure had already been completed, we handed Sophia over to Kev wanting to leave peacefully with our grief.  Instead while holding our dog in his arms Kev started to discuss a refund that was owed and wanted to know what card to refund to. I was completely inconsolable after saying goodbye to our loved one and this was an incredibly insensitive and inappropriate time to bring up financial matters. I told him that we would call to take care of it. After that conversation, rather than staying behind with Sophia and simply allowing us to leave the room and grieve privately as we exited, Kev continued to follow us out of the room and down the hall to the exit all while carrying our pet. There was no need to escort us out as we had entered through the same side entrance. Throughout this time, he continued speaking to us while carrying Sophia in a way that was deeply upsetting. Her head was dangling over his arm without the care and dignity that I believe every family expects their beloved pet to receive after they have passed. Seeing our loved one handled in that manner was completely heartbreaking, and it is an image that my daughter and I will carry with us for the rest of our lives. This should have been a peaceful opportunity to say goodbye to our cherished family member of 17 years. Instead, multiple interactions with Kev made an already devastating experience even more painful. Families facing end of life decisions deserve empathy, patience, clear communication, and compassionate treatment. Unfortunately, that was not what we experienced from him. I sincerely hope this feedback is taken seriously.
