    I had to visit Tanasbourne Emergency Pet Clinic last night-something no pet owner ever wants to experience. From start to finish, everyone was incredibly kind, professional, and accommodating. I called ahead to make sure they could see us, and upon arrival, we were welcomed warmly and got into a room quickly. I really appreciated their check-in process-completely digital, with no papers to fill out by hand, all done conveniently on my phone. We were in and out in just under two hours on a Thursday night, which felt like a huge relief. I'm especially grateful to the doctor who performed a quick ultrasound on my kitty to ensure there were no obstructions. They also followed up the next day to check on her, which really meant a lot. Highly recommend Tanasbourne Emergency Pet Clinic for anyone needing compassionate and efficient care for their pets. We did end up visiting the emergency room here three days in a row. They were kind enough to schedule a weekend ultrasound for my kitty so that we can diagnose why she's been sick.

    I had to take my baby boy (little Chihuahua mix,) to the ER as he took a header into a wall while he played with his brother and had a chunk of face taken out. I rushed him to the ER since I was also concerned with a concussion. He may be a jerk a lot (small dog syndrome, and mostly Chihuahua in his mix,) but he's my 8 year old baby. It was THANKFULLY quiet there. And I called prior to give them our information so we got in in a FLASH. I could NOT believe how at ease my normally anxious and excited dog was. The vet tech had him follow her back without Mom, and no whining, crying or looking back. In the 7 years since I adopted him that's NEVER happened. Not even with family!! The entire staff was so kind and sweet with him and believe it or not our visit did NOT break the bank. It was an hour that it took me almost round trip door to door and that was awesome. My boy got excellent care. And they text me the next day to follow up, which I SO appreciated. Highly recommend. And at the same time, hope I never have to go back!

    I came here to have my 16 year old cat put to sleep. Everyone was very caring and compassionate from the front desk ladies to the vet and assistants. I could barely get a word out from my crying and we were taken to a nice peaceful room right away. They put my kitty in a nice soft little round bed with a blanket and gave us lots of time to say goodbye. After she passed they took her back and wrapped her up in a white cloth and drew a heart on the wrapping so we could take her home and lay her to rest in our garden. Thank you for helping my old girl pass in peace.

    Tanasborne Veterinary Emergency saved both of my cats. In August, my sweet Orange cat named Jinx had a bladder blockage. We took him to Tanasborne and they performed a PU surgery. The surgery saved Jinx's life and he is currently cuddled on my lap while I'm writing this. He is my whole heart and I'm so grateful to Tanasborne vet for saving him. Not only did he receive phenomenal care, but they let me call to check on him as many times as I wanted, constantly gave me updates, and the surgery was also way cheaper than other places we looked into. The surgeons, vet techs, and admin staff were all SO kind and compassionate. 2 months after Jinx, our grey cat Izzy had a stomach issue. She was throwing up constantly and we were so scared for her. Tanasborne helped us come up with a solution for her and got her on the right medications to help support her until we could get her to our primary vet. Both cats are so happy now, they opened their catnip toys yesterday for Christmas and I am just so so grateful to still have them. They're truly my babies and I cannot thank Tanasborne enough for taking such good a care of them. If you have a pet emergency, I cannot recommend Tanasborne Veterinary Emergency enough. They will care for your pet with the same amount of love that you have for them.

    I could not be happier with a horrible situation for my fur baby. He was diagnosed at another vet with a growth in his front ankle, cancer. One of the recommendations was tanasbourne. We were given 1-3 months without intervention from both, with Tanasbourne offering a small possibility considering the location of the growth...mainly just letting us know we had the possibility of 2-4 months. My dog just turned 6. Named Eleven - born on 11/11 - wedding date, birthdays ....soul mate to my wife and I Full front limb amputation was suggested and preformed. He was sore and would wine for a couple of weeks, but the pain program they have, seemed to be perfectly on par considering the traumatic surgery that just happened. Almost 6 months later, his surgery has healed perfectly with no signs of cancer. Biopsies during surgery's showed no spread to nodes or other areas. This is what we are told is "a rare" occurrence considering the diagnosis (which was confirmed via biopsy) 80lb fur baby is now jumping in and out of our Jeep, going to the dog park, and more importantly...being here by our side My sincere appreciation to the staff, they made a nightmare bearable. Our most sincere appreciation to our surgeon who chose to be honest/forthcoming of possibilities in addition to staying late into the midnight hours to preform the procedure. Thank you team!

    I have had the most wonderful experience at this place. I can not thank them enough. My 15 year old cat was not eating or drinking, vomiting, major diarrhea, and was treated for gastroenteritis. This was a horrible thing that happened to my poor girl and the staff here was beyond phenomenal. They treated her for 2 1/2 days and I have never been so grateful. She has already been so much better since she's been home and she even opened up to most of the staff when she's never been known to be friendly. She felt comfortable, and they updated me every single chance they got. To the doctors, thank you so much for your thorough research into figuring out what was wrong with my girl. And to the techs and assistants, I can't thank you enough for being so warm and kind to my sweet girl Bella. I will be recommending everyone to this location if they ever need it. It was the most affordable emergency hospital I've ever been to, and upfront about the price the entire time and there were no hidden charges. Thank you again!

    Poor girl needed a feeding tube

    They saved my dogs life. I didn't know what was wrong with her, she had been sick for a few days at home with nausea and vomiting. I took her in and was told the wait would be 8 hours. She got really sick in the waiting room and they ended up taking her back immediately. Their staff was really kind when I was so sad and scared. She had to stay overnight for two nights and they took amazing care of her and let me call and visit her whenever I wanted. One of her nurses (Heather) sent me a photo of her late one night so I would know that she was doing ok. I can't remember everyone's name but everyone was amazing. Thank you so much for taking such great care of Riley.

    No, they offer only emergency services. A typical daytime exotic veterinarian would be most appropriate for this.

    Does this vet work with pet owners on the cost of treatment, will they work with you on paying according to your income, what I can afford?

    I don't believe they do a sliding scale or payment plans, but they do offer Care Credit.

    How well does this vet know English bulldogs?

    The owner of the clinic owns an English Bulldog himself, as do many of the employees. They also treat bulldogs of all types routinely, so I would be totally confident in their expertise with the breed (and their many complexities). :)

    Has anyone spayed their dog with this clinic? What is the approximate price?

    They offer only emergency services, so a routine spay would typically be best done at a regular daytime vet.

    The short version: they saved our dog…read more First off the thing to understand about this place is it's essentially 1 large open area so as a pet parent you see EVERYTHING. While they do have rooms for families to be in private or for waiting with a reactive animal you are in an open main area with other families and see the staff interacting with patients, parents and each other. IMO this makes the medicine they practice better because of the accountability. They have a small snack area with tea and coffee, especially good if you are there much longer than you anticipated. Since I brought our dog alone (my husband stayed home with our son) the front desk staff gladly watch our pup when I needed to use the restroom. Being an open concept you can't help but overhear the phone calls taken by the staff from concerned pet parents. An item of note was call after call taken from concerned pet parents calling because their animal had ingested *insert food of concern*. Instead of telling people to come in without knowing if it was a true concern the staff and doctors asked numerous questions about the animal and food ingested to confirm if it was necessary for their animal to be brought in. I got the sense that they wanted to prevent someone from coming in needlessly, not only saving that person's finances but enabling them to focus on the ones that truly needed help. Keeping in mind this is an emergency clinic it's expected for there to be a premium with costs but what I observed was a staff that did what they could to provide care to their patients as effectively as possible. In one case a pair of rabbits were brought in that were sent home without charge. They were found to not actually be having an emergency but just needed to be given the correct amount of medication (the wife gave the husband the 'I told you so' look lol). Our Veg story: We brought our 9 month old puppy to VEG on Christmas day with a suspected intestinal blockage. My husband had called ahead so they were expecting us. After Cera's initial intake they provided an initial estimate which they were happy to scale back (we declined initial labs in favor of just getting x-rays to confirm the suspected blockage). They proposed a round of meds and fluids to see if the mass would have any movement and sent us home with instructions to return later that evening for a 2nd round of xrays. I took Cera home so we could have Christmas dinner with our family and brought her back after her kid went to bed. Unfortunately the 2nd x-rays confirmed the mass had not budged and surgical intervention was needed to save her life. When discussing Cera the doctor asked me questions about our family, I shared that Cera's kid, my 10 year old son, has autism and Cera was very important to him. She asked about their relationship and said it would be good to bring him to see her in the morning. They got Cera comfortable and they enabled me to stay with her until they were ready to start her surgery. I went home to get some sleep and the doctor called me a few hours later to report the surgery was successful. Later that morning I brought my son to see her. I had heard the doctor tell the staff about my son before her surgery and the staff were so kind and accommodating with my son, assuring him they would help her to come home as soon as she was able. We went home for dinner and later after I got him to bed I went back, prepared to spent a 2nd night there. Upon my arrival the doctor said that pending a good next few hours I should be able to take her home before morning. Keeping in mind our bill was more than I care to admit or thought I'd ever spending on vet care getting her home was not only good for her but meant we would have to be charged for a 2nd night's stay. Just after 1am I drove home with our sweet Cera and had a very happy son in the morning when he came downstairs to find us home. Our family is so grateful. Cera is doing great & expected to make a full recovery.

Too many times we have gone to a Vet emergency clinic, our dog taken away, and we sit in a room wondering what's going on and panicking about where our dog is, is she scared, not getting updates, not understanding anything. Our dogs are always terrified to go in, they HATE being taken away from us, and we hate it. That is NOT the case here. When they say open concept - they mean OPEN. You are seated in an area, WITH your pet. The doctor and nurses come to where you're sitting, they sit on the floor with you. You're sitting next to other patients and their people, sitting on other couches near you. You're seeing them x-ray, do labs, triage, etc. on every single pet that comes in the door. You see all the chaos going on in a Vet ER as they do their passdowns and triage. It all becomes visible, and we left there understanding two things: 1) veterinarian emergency is chaos. There's always something. There's always pets in need. And there's always people wondering what's going on and just as scared as their pets. 2) Being able to SEE that first hand, helped us understand, empathize, but also bond with other pets and their owners - as we all sat together, talked while we waited, and created a sense of community in during that time when stress is at it's highest, with our furry family members.

We literally walked in without an appointment as our Shiba had ingested some cherry laurel berries from a neighbor's tree. She was wobbly and threw up so we knew it was urgent. Dr Harley Johnson and her team were wonderful. She even took extra time to research and confirm we had the right plant and wanted to ensure we didn't take any unnecessary steps or incur any charges we didn't need. I really appreciated the staff and the vet's care, one cat had end stage renal disease, and the vet was very informative and caring about what his labs meant, etc. They have a very nice room set aside for those who are saying goodbye to their pets. I realize my experience doesn't have anything to do with acute problems in younger animals that may need surgery, etc., but I was impressed with the compassion and with the speed in which they took care of both of my cats when we were experiencing end of life choices.

When that is no longer the case and tough decisions need to be made, we had an excellent experience with Compassionate Care to say goodbye to our pup. Let me start by saying that every administrative and customer service interaction was timely, clear, and concise. The last thing you want in this situation are delays and confusion. Once I reached out through the contact link on their website, the email response with details about their different services happened within 10 minutes. An intake call to make arrangements for a euthanasia visit at our home was answered by a human and only took a few minutes. They recommend making a reservation 48-hours in advance, but we were put on a wait-list and we moved up our reservation when things opened up. I appreciate that you can reschedule (with four hours advance notice) as well. They have a variety of services, Eco-friendly cremation, and memorial pieces. Everything was arranged in advance, including payment through their web portal, so when the vet arrived for the appointment it was all about our boy and his (and our) comfort. Dr. Wilson clearly walked us through the process, gave us time to say goodbye, provided options, and was a wonderful partner in the process. Cremation is done at a facility in N. Portland, but they have the option of picking up the cremains in Oregon City which was more convenient for us. Having gone through this experience with another pet where we took them to the vet's office, I would highly recommend this option for the pet's comfort. It just felt better saying goodbye in a familiar space surrounded by love.

And an even longer two or three weeks before that fighting to get him to eat. Like others here, Kevin was closer to me than my human family. I was busy with the doctors in ER so my partner called in to make the appointment to ease my stress. He said I was primary contact, but it was difficult to make that clear all the way until the day so communications were continually going to him. Not a big deal in the overall picture, but it didn't make the experience any easier. This was my cat for 8 years before I met my partner and while he loved my baby, I was the one with the lifelong bond. The doctor showed up within the time window allotted. We both found her a little cold. I felt like we were just a job and everything was done by number. My BF picked up my cat and carried him to me, but the doctor said we should do paperwork first which resulted in me putting him down after building up to do what I deemed impossible. I was emotional and crying. This really should somehow be handled before the visit. There were corrections to be made on the form. I was about to lose my baby and this only made me aware that I was filling out his death warrant. I am utterly heartbroken. I know holding your baby until the last minute is catharsis and closure, but I found it traumatizing. His passing was peaceful at least. Everyone's goodbye will be unique, and my example will not necessarily match what others experience. Everyone we spoke to was professional. I just wasn't feeling the compassion.

My beloved cat, Queenie, was only 9 months old when she passed away under their care a month ago, and the way this has been handled has left my family and I absolutely devastated. We brought Queenie in for a spay surgery, and she returned to us in a completely different state--completely disconnected from her mind and eyes, and avoiding us at all cost. At Portland, we were sent home with assurances that she was fine to return, despite our concerns about her lack of appetite and severe dehydration days after her surgery. Dr. Aldo Mata, who saw her that day, mentioned issues with her gallbladder and possibly her liver, yet reassured us she'd be fine after administering more medications. We were told she'd improve by the morning, but she continued to worsen as hours passed. It was clear to us that red flags were missed, and she died in the most tragic and traumatic way, leaving us in complete devastation and immense trauma that even calling them triggers flashbacks from that day, leaving me in tears after I get off the phone. Since her passing, the communication from both locations has been way too quiet for way too long. We've reached out multiple times, but each time we've only received minimal updates from front desk staff, never from the actual doctors. Despite numerous promises that a doctor would call to explain what happened, we've heard nothing for over a month. We weren't even contacted about letting us know that her ashes were ready (God knows how long they've waited...). It's truly unfathomable how little regard they have for us as grieving pet owners. Losing Queenie has been an indescribable heartbreak, but the lack of compassion and responsibility from the staff has made it even worse. It has shaken my trust in their ability to care for animals and support grieving pet owners. Since her death, there hasn't been a day where I haven't stopped crying. It has deeply affected our whole family, and our Christmas and New Year's were overshadowed by the pain of her sudden passing. Queenie deserved better, and for a clinic that claims to care for pets as if they're their own, it's painfully ironic that they failed her so terribly. It seems clear to me that they used the holiday season to avoid accountability, and that makes the situation even harder to accept and bear as the days go on. I sincerely hope this review prompts the clinic to reevaluate their practices, particularly their communication and aftercare procedures. No one should have to go through this level of neglect. If you're considering this clinic, please do yourself and your pet a favor--ask thorough questions about their care and follow-up procedures. I would not wish this experience on anyone, and I strongly encourage you to read through other reviews online and on other sites before making a decision. Below is a photo of our beautiful Queenie, whom we will never be able to see grow up, never be able to wake up every morning and see her beautiful yellow eyes and heartwarming presence. It was hard seeing these photos, but I want to share to everyone online who she is and how beautiful she was, my little soulmate. Admittedly, I bawled my eyes out once again looking at these photos. This is not meant to discredit the clinic as a whole, but to be transparent about an interaction that had a significant emotional impact on us and may be important for others to be aware of. Our family recently brought our cat to Columbia River Veterinary Specialists during one of the most painful moments a pet owner can experience--having to say goodbye. I want to be very clear that the majority of the staff we interacted with were kind, patient, and compassionate. The woman at the front desk treated us with warmth and respect, the staff member we spoke with on the phone beforehand was helpful and understanding, and the veterinarian who ultimately assisted with end-of-life care was gentle, loving, and respectful. He took the time to explain everything clearly and treated both our pet and our family with dignity. Those are exactly the kinds of people you want working in a field that involves end-of-life care and emotional vulnerability. Unfortunately, our initial interaction with one staff member significantly overshadowed the experience. When our family first arrived, the individual who took our cat back (not the person who checked us in) made comments that strongly implied judgment about why our pet had not been brought in sooner. These remarks were delivered in a way that felt accusatory and lacked empathy, especially given that our pet was actively dying and we were already emotionally overwhelmed. Financial limitations are a reality for many families. Being made to feel guilt or shame for not having immediate access to thousands of dollars--at the exact moment we were facing the loss of a beloved pet--was deeply inappropriate and unprofessional. Veterinary professionals are entrusted with not only animal care, but human compassion. This was not the time for assumptions, judgment, or commentary--it was a moment that required empathy, discretion, and support. I'm sharing this because no family should be made to feel judged or shamed while saying goodbye to a pet. I sincerely hope this feedback is taken seriously and addressed internally, because the rest of the staff we encountered demonstrated the level of care and compassion that should be standard in situations like this. You should know that before getting a pet and you should know things are going to inevitably happen. It never gets easier. Our experience with Compassionate Care, specifically with Dr. Marie Worobets, was by far the most beautiful and peaceful passing we have ever known. Our vet sent us referrals and when I saw that they are 24/7 I thought that was the best place to start. Unfortunately we went from needing to call for info that day to seeing when we could get the doctor to us. We were lucky that she was able to come that evening as we didn't want him to suffer (he really wasn't himself anymore). It was gut wrenching and writing a review like this makes me cry. I knew it would be peaceful because I had to do this over 20 years ago. I'm so glad they do in home services. Not having to stress him out and take him somewhere else made us feel a little better. He was able to lay in the chair on "dad's" jacket like he loved. She was just so kind and caring. I'm so grateful to people like her that take on this sad task. She was so great with him, and us. The caring way she bundled him up in a blanket and we laid him down in a soft basket. It really meant a lot to us. We felt the cost was totally reasonable (not that it mattered to us in the least). We opted for a solo cremation and were impressed with their process for that. They also offer memorial items but we just went with the compostable urn. He's not going anywhere for a while but it's nice to know we can bury the entire urn. It was about a week later that he was ready for us to pick up. It's a simple process for that. You can go any time during business hours to this location and simply call. They'll gather your loved one and bring them to your car. Communication was very clear every step of the way. They were so kind and I'm thankful for their help in putting our sweet baby to rest. It's hard no doubt, but they made it a little bit easier. Sadly, his (actual) brother who is also 16 (doing pretty good for an old man kitty) will also need this one day. I know I'll be coming here.

    I stumbled across Oregon Aquamation while looking for options for cremation for my beloved doggie…read morecompanion of 15 years. Fortunately the lack of reviews on this app didn't stop me from contacting them after learning the difference between standard cremation and Aquamation. Not only is this a less violent process it's a much better process for the environment without ANY drawbacks that I could identify. Joey the owner was truly empathetic to my situation as I spoke to him from the parking lot of Dove Lewis Pet hospital moments after I picked up my baby girl. He offered to pick Dini up from my house (and would have come to Dove Lewis if I had asked him to!) Without any additional charge! The "least expensive" cremation option given to me by Dove Lewis charges an outrageous fee of $200+ to pick up your pet! And they do traditional fire cremation. Joey met me at my house and took great care placing Dini in his van, assuring me that she would be treated with the dignity she and I deserved. Only 5 days later he let me know she was ready to come home. On Christmas Eve he delivered her ashes to me. The total cost for her individual (vs. group) Aquamation including pickup and delivery was $219! Much less than any other option I found and done with the greatest compassion and professionalism. I can't recommend them more highly! It was the bright spot in an otherwise terribly painful experience. Please do yourself and your pet a favor and contact them for any information you need to make your decision. I promise you won't regret it!

We had 17 amazing years with her and she went at home peacefully. But this made finding someone to take care of her remains difficult. Most cremation services only picked up from veterinary offices. The ones that did private care were outrageously expensive...nearing $1000 including transport. They were mostly unhelpful or outright unkind. Then I took a chance and opened the google listing for Oregon Aquamatoon. The owner himself, Joey, answered. He was kind and patient. They were so affordable by comparison and would come to our home to take Lilly. They tagged her with a metal tag that stayed with her. They put her beautiful, pure white sand remains in a lovely bamboo box with her pawprint laser etched with her name. They also gave us beautiful clippings of her fur sealed in a glass bottle. They dropped her back with us at a time that worked with my work schedule so she wouldn't be left alone. They donated her blanket to a cat rescue. I cant say enough about this company. They are heavensent. We miss our girl so much but her transition and final rest were so peaceful.
