Not gonna lie, this is a pretty friendly Petco; compared to the many Petco's I've been too. This one does a really good job at being personable and efficient. These guys seem to hire the locals who don't crack under pressure-- and have that nice Burbank vibe in all of them. Two caveats: - know what you want when you're going in. - and anticipate a longer line in the afternoon. (short staffed) Something I've come to notice in this pet store is that the staff become more easy-going and helpful if you are patient as they help you out. They already are, but that's just professionally speaking. While the PETCO Pick Ups aren't super great at finding what you want online, they will price match if you find the item, and pull up that same item on your phone from the app. I don't usually say that about Petco Stores-- but here you go! I had an incredible customer service experience at the register. She was so knowledgeable and truly took the time to understand what we needed. We have a very sick dog, and I was looking for something to help her feel calm and reduce anxiety and pain. When I asked about a CBD calming treat, she immediately reviewed the ingredients and recommended a different product I had never heard of. She explained why it would be a better option, and I trusted her. It turned out to be the only product that worked. For the first time, my baby stopped shaking and was able to relax, cuddle, and even smile. That moment meant everything to us. I took a cat for a possible infection on one eye, and they tried to sell me from a Veterinarian Diet for cats to a fecal examination . My final bill for an examination and some terramycin was $350. If you care even a little about your pet, DO NOT take them to Petco. I scheduled a vaccine appointment for my 9-week-old puppy. They told me everything was ready and I could just come in. When I arrived, they made me wait for over an hour and a half with a stressed, scared puppy -- no updates, no urgency, just indifference. Then, without asking me or even informing me, they performed a check-up I never agreed to. The vet finally came and said my puppy might have a disease, but he couldn't name it... couldn't describe it... and claimed it was "a symptomless condition most puppies get." Then he walked out and never came back. I am not exaggerating -- he vanished. They told me they couldn't give any vaccinations, and that I'd have to come back in a week, but that the same thing might happen again. Then came the kicker: they tried to charge me over $500. For what? No vaccines. No answers. No follow-up. No accountability. No manager available. Just blank stares and stress -- for both me and my puppy. This wasn't just unprofessional. It was traumatizing. My puppy came home more anxious than ever, and I left feeling completely helpless and furious. This is a place that should care about animals -- instead, they made my dog a number and a dollar sign. As soon as you walk in for a vet check, the lady in the front was very nice and helpful and patient. then the doctors assistant came in and she was very patient as well. She went over the treatment plan how much it was gonna cause the doctor was very knowledgeable and very gentle with Junior. Granted the bill was a little bit bigger than I expected also, the doctor gave him a new diet plan, this will be for sure my go to from now on. I've had my dog for over 6 years now and maintained regular grooming/haircuts during this entire period. NEVER in his six years of being groomed while under my care has my dog EVER tried to bite someone or cause any issues of the sort while on the table. He's a nervous boy and I communicated that to the grooming folks before his appointment. When I got my dog back I was told that he repeatedly attempted to bite the groomer but they were still able to finish the cut (quite poorly might I add). When I was called and informed that he was ready to be picked up nobody told me that there were issues. My request to be informed if anything was happening during the appointment was also ignored. I simply showed up to pick up my boy and was told he caused many issues and that petco will no longer take him as a client. I've had him groomed through this company for years. I know my boy and I know that he will communicate his discomfort before ever getting to a point of trying to bite someone--the behavior that these groomers tell me he was showing indicate a neglect of care when my dog was clearly distressed. To make matters worse, he was groomed by the manager, Brett. I sincerely hope that the groomers at this facility are trained and perform at a much higher caliber than what I experienced from the manager himself today. He was also not present upon pickup so I couldn't get any actual information on what happened and I plan to talk to him to find clarity asap. read more

1st time at this Vetco. Ever since COVID, my vet does not open on weekends, nor do they do walk-ins anymore. And they close early now. I work early morning hours till late. I would give this place 0 stars. They are always short staffed, always a long line because there's only 1 person on the register. When you need help on the floor, you can't find anyone on the sales floor for help either so you're stuck waiting a long time for help and to check out. The manager Diana, was talking to a customer for 5 minutes, when she was checking my items out, she kept texting on her phone which is unprofessional. When I needed to do a price match for items, she hesitated, gave me a nasty attitude and told me she wouldn't honor it next time because I have to be considerate of the line, when it was just 3 items that had to be price matched and I already had the items ready but yet she can be texting on her phone and talking to customers for over 5 minutes about non related Petco topic. We wanted a hamster that was dropped down to 6.99. My son asked her we really love this hamster can we see it. So it turned out someone bought already. Which was fine, and I still inquired one. She started talked to the girl that bought the hamster. Petco sold me a sick cockatiel. I purchased a little friendly cockatiel in December 2023 for my fiancée as a present. His name in store was Lemon Drop. We renamed him Sunny. He is a cute little guy who was very reserved at first but later began to open up to us much more. We've been doing everything by textbook. Feeding him, cleaning his cage and toys, and making sure he is happy and healthy. Things were going great for the first 4 months. He really enjoyed singing every day. Days were great. Suddenly, around late April of 2024, Sunny began to throw up consistently one day out of the blue. We were very worried and took him to a pet hospital to get checked out. The vet ran some tests and it turns out that Sunny has a fungal infection called Avian Gastric Yeast (AGY). It is a fungus macro-bacteria that latches onto birds and affects their dietary track, causing birds to vomit food, not digest food properly, cause runny/diarrhea stools, and causes dehydration. We had no idea how Sunny could have gotten this. And then we found out more about the AGY: AGY is transferred through physical contact with affected birds or affected items. This includes other birds who share or have shared the cage with Sunny, along with any food or water bowls, leftover feces, toys, and anything else that has been in contact with the said infected host. I trusted that this PetCo maintained their cages and cleaned them properly. However, I have gone through this particular branch multiple times to see the birds, as I have been on a lookout for a new companion for my fiancée. 90% of the time, the cages have been dirty, the water has been dirty or sometimes filled with feces, and seen birds feces all around the habitat. To make it even worse, AGY isn't something that is shown in birds right away. It's a fungus that gradually grows inside its host, and will eventually start affecting the hosts internal system. This is why there was a four month gap where everything was okay. It didn't really start affecting Sunny until the AGY was starting to take over. For three months since April. We've been taking him to the vet for treatment and have been giving him medication to try to help and eliminate the AGY. For three months, we've been cleaning his fixate daily, feeding him emergency food through a syringe to help his system digest food. For three months, we've been taking him to monthly checkups to see if there are improvements. For three months, we've done everything we can to help him get better. Now three months later, we're here at the vet having to determine one of the following 3 options: 1. After already spending $5,000 in medical exams, tests, monthly checkups, hospital night stays, and additional treatments, our poor boy is in worse condition. The vet says we can keep Sunny here for a few additional nights at an additional cost of $1,500 to see if there's improvement. There is a 10% chance this will help him recover. 2. We can take him home tonight, be there for him, and just try to keep him comfortable until he succumbs to the disease. 3. We can end all suffering right now and perform a euthanasia on the poor little guy and let him rest. We are emotionally distressed, as this is a very difficult decision for the both of us. We're going to lose our friend, and there's nothing we can do about it. This could have all been prevented had PetCo cleaned their cages much more efficiently after each bird that comes in. We have tried to reach out to PetCo to tell us how they will compensate us for the emotional and financial burdens we have gone through for the last three months. PetCo never called back. We tried calling again, and now they are ignoring us. Do yourself a favor. Don't purchase new friends here, unless PetCo guarantees you that they are handed off without any diseases or sicknesses. We have gone through so much, and I don't know how else I can emphasize the stress this branch has put us under with this little guy. He just turned 1 year last month. It isn't fair for a poor little kid to die of some horrible disease. PetCo, thanks for the stress, tears, and sadness you have thrown into us. Sunny did not deserve this, and it's all your fault. A total of $5,000 could not save our little friend. read more

Do not take your dog to grooming at Petco. Teeth cleaning and nail cutting is supposed to be a part of the package, however it never gets done. The last time I took my dog they cut her paw and didn't even mention it to me. They are super rough with my dog and rightfully so my dog reacted (following her last grooming with her cut) and they put blame on her when the groomer should know how to manage dogs. His hair is completely uneven everywhere, especially on the top of the head and around the face. I'm having to take my dog to a different groomer today and pay for them to fix this mess. I also paid extra for a teeth cleaning, which he clearly did not get. Makes me wonder if he got his other services I paid for. Petco Burbank is definitely the best store to go to if you are into marine fish and reef keeping. The Gal there is spot on with every species of marine fish. She knows what fish gets along with what fish. As you know, marine fish are very territorial. She's happy to check salinity, so you know if you have to raise salinity to acclimate to your tank. I've purchased clownfish, turbo snails, hermits and a blue tang from there. Their tanks are sparkling. I checked two Petcos today. One in Van Nuys, one is Studio City, CA. The tanks were empty, dark and one tank only had an Assorted Damsel and a dead Coral Angel Fish. Coral Angelfish are not cheap! Those two Petco's need to do better. I plan on hitting this Petco tomorrow for more clean up crew and a neon sharknose goby. Just didn't feel like driving to another Petco today. Studio City and Van Nuys need to send their employees to the Burbank Petco, to instruct them on marine fish. read more

I'm so sad to be writing this review but I was told it needed to be said. Vetco is a complete scam. I was fine with them taking care of my first cat. They gave me some meds to give him because he's a "hassle" and gets aggressive with them. Totally understandable but he never acts that way at home nor with strangers or anyone. But vets, I get. I found another cat and sadly it didn't make it. Thanks to vetco, I was told to administer a bunch of meds on a baby kitten and he didn't really have a chance but why wasn't I told ya know? The vet chuckled and told me I'd have to be on watch and possibly go to urgent care if it gets worse. Well, I went to sleep after giving it all the meds they told me to, woke up to a lifeless cat that was still alive and had it die in my hands... with my 8 year old who just experienced her father passing. On top of that, I brought in my NEXT cat and she wasn't even tested nor seen. In fact the doctor came in and was yelling because of the prior animal.... All in all it's been the worst animal hospital we've been to. I've taken my animals to Glendale Small Animal Hospital and it's been the best experience ever! They actually care for your animals and getting to know them... even with the busy-ness! And guess what... my first cat doesn't have any behavioral issues at the small animal hospital....
