Huge thanks to Katrina from the grooming department for making our puppy's first haircut a good experience for him. We wanted to try to get him shorter because of the hot weather, although we knew it would be a hard feat because of his lack of table manners. He's only 17 weeks old, it would be his first time, and he is wiggly and is teething. Despite this, Katrina was able to give him the cutest cut and make him comfortable at the same time. This Petco is unlike any other. I scheduled my grooming appointment days in advance and had my day planned around getting my dog groomed. 20 minutes before my appointment I get a text saying my appointment canceled. I called and they said they can work on my pet if i bring him within the next 15 minutes. So i had to rush for no reason. i get there no dogs are being groomed and 1 of the groomers is sitting on the floor on their phone. They groomed my dog and after the groom, told me my dog tried to bite them, which i know is not true because other petcos have praised how well behaved he is and he's never tried to bite anyone. Not only that, after this appointment they put a lock on my petco account making it impossible to make appointments thru the app. Seems they did this because they were mad they had to groom my dog. (Cage free chicken also.) Secure your refillable bag and pull lever to desired pounds and take your ticket to pay. My dog loves when I bring home a new bag and now I can pick how much and SAVE $$, win win! Staff has always been helpful here, but not necessarily knowledgeable. The grooming department at Buena Park Petco is THE WORST. They just called me less than two hours before my appointment to let me know that my appointment was cancelled "because our online system is screwed up and I'm leaving at 3pm today". The groomer who called me also told me that since I mentioned that my (elderly) dog has skin tags that I should have him groomed at a vet. (I have had him groomed every several months at Petco his ENTIRE LIFE). I HIGHLY recommend the grooming department at the Long Beach Petco (on PCH), they've always done a fantastic job. The grooming department in Buena Park is just the opposite -- this is not the first appointment they've cancelled at the last minute, nor the first time that they've thrown up BS excuses as to why they shouldn't do the work they're supposed to be trained to do. Went to this location because the PetSmart in Buena Park just redid their fish section so they weren't seeing fish at the time. My sons and I walked around and so many of their tanks had dead fish floating around or on the bottom of their tanks. The employees were no where to be seen. My dogs have been going to the Petco at Cerritos Towne Center for at least 8 years now. For the last year or so they have been groomed by Alyssa. I cannot say enough good things about how great she is with my dogs. My dogs always both get groomed at the same time and my 14 year old just loves her. As for my 3 year old chihuahua, she's a handful and very protective of me and my husband and she can be aggressive. But not with Alyssa, from the beginning they hit it off. She is patient with her, she can actually pick her up and carry her into the salon (which is quite a feat because she's a little overweight to say the least) and she's perfectly fine which is unheard of. Alyssa is friendly, professional, caring and I always ask for her to groom my dogs. Not that the others aren't amazing too, they are, but Alyssa has a special place in my heart, and my dogs - thank you Alyssa. read more

I have been going to this Petco location for more than 8 years and have never had any bad experiences with them primarily because I live literally a block from here. Unfortunately, I can no longer say that as they are were very unhelpful during my last visit with them today, 09/28/2024. I will continue to support Petco and buy stuff online and other Petco's, but not at this location anymore. Backstory: On Wednesday 09/25/2024 approximately a bit after noon time, I went to Petco to purchase some supplies for my English Bulldog, Bowser, which included some wipes, a dodgers jersey, and pill pockets. I did not notice that the wipes were missing until Saturday morning and decided to see if I can get them because they were pretty pricey being that they were anti-fungal and antibacterial. If they were only a couple bucks I would not mind but I recently got laid off and money is not easy to come by for me these days. I went back to purchase other items and brought up my concern to the lady at the register to inform her of my situation. I even gave her the description of the male employee and showed her the wipes and asked if she could assist me by checking the CCTV and go back to the transaction in their system but she basically said it was my fault for not calling right away, that I misplaced it and that she didn't trust me. Does she not think that I checked my car and all around for it? Keep in mind, they were not busy at all this morning and no one was even lined up behind us. It just felt like she didn't care about me as a customer or feel like doing anything to help even if she did have access to do so. I asked if I could maybe call back when that employee who helped me comes back next Wednesday and she said that he probably wouldn't even remember about the wipes by then (basically I will just waste my time trying). Overall, I was just displeased with this particular employee's professionalism and service or lack of service provided. I later called customer service to see if I can somehow get some help but the operator said that there is nothing they can do because they do not have access to store CCTV and transactions. Anyways, I hope this information will help others who are thinking about going to this location for their pet needs in the future. Conclusion: Sure they have a vast variety of products but their products are overpriced when compared other places, especially online stores and on top of that their customer service is very unhelpful and unfriendly and has been trending that way for a while according to other reviews before me. They either need to fix/replace their staffing, train their employees better, and/or figure out why the employees at this location are not happy to help their customers with the best of their abilities. Either way, this type of service is what turns away new and returning loyal customers from a business. I just feel as I was robbed of my hard earned money from this incident and will spread the word with loved ones and friends in the community as I would not want this to happen to anyone else. P.S. I've made so many purchases of bags of dog food just in this year alone and have never seen my vital care nutrition rewards go up and I give them my phone number at checkout every time I go there. This Petco is not only a great resource for my pet needs but also a great hub to meet other friends of the pet owner community. When browsing around, I tend to be more private and find comfort in looking around to see an associate on occasion should I need assistance. I find that experience here with occasional smiles and offers for assistance. When checking out, my dwarf bunny Sparta is always celebrated in conversation with the cashier. It's great to have a series of genuine interactions that ultimately make having a pet even more fun. Sharing stories, tips and the latest accessories to bring home to Sparta is what makes me a reoccurring Petco Pal. read more

New puppy arriving in two days. The family is very excited so we went shopping for our new family member. When I say family, I'm talking my wife and children. We go to enter the Buena Park store (with masks) and are met by David, who said we would have to split up because of social distancing. I explained that we were a family, rode in the car together and live in the same house. He said he didn't care and we couldn't shop together in his store. From the parking lot I called the store because David was unreasonable. I asked for the manager and David got on the phone. He then tried to debate me on CDC guidelines and ended up yelling at me....we left and spent a bunch of money at PetSmart....way to lose a customer for life David. I hope the phones are recorded so his District Manager can review. I know Im suppose to do my business outside, but I was saving it for the store. I know a lot of other dogs do the same thing because I can smell it. Yea, the owners try to clean it, with that spray, but the smell is still there. Other dogs need to know that they do not own the store. I don't see their name anywhere. So Im going to poop too and mark my spot. At least I make sure nobody is watching, when I poop. Today we were about to grab a bag of dog food, I paused, squated down and before my mom could tell me no, and pull me outside, it was already coming out. A lady walked by and looked at the poop then looked at me funny, then told my mom that a lot of dogs do the same thing. Hey lady you can't prove it was me. I like coming here. There are a few cats for adoption. I have always liked cats. For some reason they don't like me. I overheard the cats only stay here for two weeks, then get Fostered into a home until they find their furever home. There is a huge section of stuffed toys. I have about 20 of them. You may think that is a lot of toys for 1 dog, but I could use a few more. They have a lot of food here. But they don't sell my favorite brand...FROMM food, so my mom bought me something else. When I called today outside the store, I was given a sob story they are have 5 persons just diagnosed with COVID. And the incident happed within 24 hours and they are short staffed. If true that would suggest they don't follow COVID protocols preventing spread among employees. I call BS, all their locations changed their hours on Sunday. Proper protocol would be to update all postings of hours, i.e. website. Quit blaming COVID for lack of planning. read more

Well..... my dog just got fleas after being groomed here My dog's groomer called in sick so we had to postpone the haircut to another day. It was very unfortunate because she had a dog birthday party that weekend. When I called back to confirm my 2nd appointment, apparently it was not inputted into the system. Luckily, the groomer squeezed me in because I was already not having it bc my dog looked like Chewbacca for her dog party hahaha The grooming itself was nice on my puppy! Very clean and nice! But I'm a little irked that I read reviews online that your dog potentially could get fleas but I trust petco. Unfortunately... she did get fleas from this place. I don't hate petco and I do shop here a lot. I do not discourage people from coming here but I hope petco does a better job with their sanitariness! This review is after we had help from Ruby and a little help from Perry..... Our family was looking to start a fish aquarium. On our first visit Perry and Ruby explained that we would need to fully set up a fish aquarium before we were able to get the fish. Ruby got us all set up and ready to go. Unfortunately, after a few visits the fish aquarium didn't work out for our family for multiple reasons. Each time we had to return to Petco Ruby was very friendly and attentive with our family explaining what needed to be done. We decided that a leopard Gecko would be a better fit. An hour after I booked the appointments, I received a call telling me they were cancelling because one of my dogs has chronic disease (Cushing's and pancreatitis), despite it being well controlled by medication. They also refused to take my other dog because I reported he does not particularly like other dogs. We took both dogs to Petco grooming in our old neighborhood for their entire lives and none of these things were an issue.
