Staff has turned around, the current manager there is so helpful and kind. The current trainer, Theresa is awesome! Came here the other night looking for a replacement dog ID tag. Found this cute blue bone ID tag to replace the missing name tag. The engravement machine was easy to use with step by step instructions and easy visuals to understand. You have buy the tag first, locate the code on the receipt to enter on the machine and select your choice of font style. The machine allows you to enter up to 4 lines on each side. GROOMING MANAGEMENT IS UNPROFESSIONAL! This review will only be for the grooming and not the store in general. If your dog is over 9 years old, don't bother coming here. I made an appointment over the phone to get my 12 year old Shih Tzu groomed two weeks ago. I came in today for my 9am appointment and I was sweating already because I was carrying my 17 lb dog. The groomer, Kristen looked at him and asked him how old he is. I said almost 13 years old. And then she goes and says that she doesn't groom dogs over 9 years of age due to the stress. WTF!!!! Why are you telling me this now?!?! Then I asked her why did they decide to take my appointment. And she said that it depends on the groomer. So that means that when you make an appointment for a senior dog, you have to hope that the groomer that is working that day will take your dog. What an effing inconvenience. I even confirmed my appointment a few days and a day before. And NO ONE informed me about that policy. Petco management, do better!! I'll still continue going there for dog food and toys. They have no carts because they were stolen. Ok fine I get that, but when you don't even offer to help your customers to their car when they have a lot of items especially some heavy ones, that is totally unacceptable!!!!! The portion of my review isn't about the store itself but about a particular customer other PetCo patrons should be aware of. I have encountered this man, Peter (see photo) and his wife and 2 dogs previously at the park. My dog is super friendly as the PetCo staff and any other dog owner who knows us can tell you. They said their dogs weren't friendly so I rolled up my leash so my dog can't stray from my side and stood to the very edge of the path to let them pass. However, the wife screamed "Are you fucking stupid? Move you moron!!" while her husband called me "you stupid slope faced cunt!" All because I didn't step into the dirt and give them the entire pathway, which is more than wide enough for all of us to pass without their aggressive dogs getting close enough to bite mine. Petco 2601 86th Street is listed as an Amazon drop off center for returns. When I went there, their staffs told me they did not have the labels to print and thus was unable to process the return. I went on Amazon to change the location drop off to another retailer, only to receive an e-mail from them later in the day indicating "abnormal activity" on my account and that I would not be permitted to proceed with and receive a refund unless I "upload a valid government-issued identity document on the secure customer portal" that would be used for an investigation. All of this because Petco on 86th Street was not responsible with maintaining adequate supply of printing labels. I hold this store liable for costing me the amount for the item I am now unable to return. Unless you want to go through the same experience with having your account restricted by Amazon, avoid this location for drop off returns as if it was a person unvaccinated for Covid-19. read more

Not only did they have a variety of nerite snails while it seems everyone is currently sold out of the pretty ones, they aquatics staff was so knowledgeable and helpful. Okay, so, I love my cat and I love petco, it's like my happy place. I used to go to the one in Union square and get stuck their for hours. This petco is relatively smaller than others and doesn't have some of the products that I find in other stores which earned it one star deduction. The next comes from the employees, whose temperance and person-ability is kind of lacking. On my first visit the girl at the cash register kept getting frustrated because I'd asked to pay using two cards. She must have thought me and my friend didn't see her rolling her eyes and looking st the other cashier while we talked together and checked out. The second time I went there the cashier was pretty pretentious when giving advice on taking care of my cat. I know we all love animals and everyone's passionate who works there, but there's a way to communicate without being condescending. It takes a lot for me to write a bad review but I just had to because the service I got at this petco was absolutely abysmal. To everyone planning to buy their first reptile, stay far away! I came in to purchase a baby leopard gecko for my little cousin. After raising my own leo for 7 years I figured this would be a good pet for her. Walking into the store I was unable to find an employee to assist me after walking around. After speaking to the cashier he was able to get assistance for me. Soon afterwards an employee showed up and asked me several questions about my tank and setup. She asked me how big my tank was, if i had a basking light, if I had a UVB light at home for this reptile. LEOPARD GECKOS DO NOT NEED UVB LIGHTS NOR DO THEY NEED A BASKING LIGHT. What they do need is VITAMIN D3 which can EITHER be supplemented through vitamin powder (Repashy is a reputable brand), OR UVB lighting. I dust my mealworms in multi vitamin powder which has D3 before feeding which works absolutely fine. Leos also DO NOT NEED basking lights, they need heat mats because heat under their belly helps them digest food, having light shining down on them hurts their eyes! I tried explaining this to the employee which later turns out to be the manager in charge. Her response was "I can't sell you this animal unless you buy the UVB lights for it". She went and showed me the care guide, which states Leopard Geckos need UVB. Please Petco, they don't NEED UVB! They need VITAMIN D3! This is unacceptable and shows a lack of knowledge for animals they carry. I get where she was coming from, she just wanted a good home for the little leo but please, I've stated clearly that owned a leo for a little over 7 years so do not treat me like I have no clue what I'm doing!Imagine being in my shoes and hearing all of this, wouldn't it grind your gears?! It really rubbed me the wrong way. Thanks Petco but I do know how to take care of my pet. The fault lies within the company ultimately. I left the store with the uvb light (which I no doubt will be returning because I do not need it) and the gecko. On March 19th I took two of my dogs to get groomed by Kristen P. As she groomed my babies I shopped around Petco. Not even 15 mins later I get a call while shopping around Petco & rush to the groomers station were my baby Chewy was dead. The first story I was told was he was hyperventilating & then he passed out & the second story I was told was he wanted to lay down and she let him & he was gone. I was rushed out of Petco by Manager Jose and out in a uber over 40 mins away to the furtherest emergency vet (VERG) which was 11 miles away & not the 7.7 miles away. Petco will not release a statement. Anytime i try to go up there for answers the Police are being called on me. The manager & District Manager of this Petco is trying to cover up the fact that something happened to my baby Chewy in Kristens care. Also she is still currently working & grooming at this same Petco while the death of my baby Chewy is "under investigation". I asked Josh Ackdan District Manager of Petco how is she allowed to work with animals during the investigation of the death of my dog & he said he doesnt see that she is at fault. He was NEVER PRESENT IN THE STORE THAT DAY TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO MAKE THAT FINAL DECISION. The day my dog passed at Petco I was also nearly hit & abused by a Petco employee. If it wasnt for customers stepping in between he wouldve hit me in my face & its all on recording. I am devastated, hurt, and lost without my baby Chewy.
