I have mixed emotions about Petco. This store is convenient and has parking. Most of the staff is friendly and knowledgable. However they are always out of stock on many of the items I need. When I asked the staff I am told deliveries are on Tuesdays and the goods delivered are not necessarily what is out of stock, they deliver what they want. Now this may be a bit hard to believe but I went to another Petco to try and get the cat food I needed and they were out also. The person at the check out had the same response, no control over what is delivered. COME ON PETCO get with it! Do I have to continue to buy my cat litter at the corner bodega ?? read more

This review is only for vaccinations. They have vaccinations for dogs and cats on Saturdays for a couple of hours and my dog Gypsy was due for her shots so instead of going to the vet and spend more money I took her here. A line was forming when I arrived at 10:15 so I suggest coming a bit early. Vet techs are there to fill out the forms before to speed up the process and when it was my turn the vet did a quick exam and gave her three shots which she took like a champ. The cost was 67 dollars with a coupon. I left happy and my dog with a sore butt. Least I saved some money. As for the Petco store the workers are great and willing to help you with anything you need. But the prices on pet products are jacked up so high even on sale its still a little pricey. I never buy anything here. read more

Stay away as far as you can from them!! i came there 10/03/2020 for grooming appointment. i ask groomer (Her name is Kristal ) to clean my dog ears, teeth, and cut his nail. She say it ok, it call spa and cost additional $23, i say ok, do it. When i come back to pick up my dog, i was in shock, she spoiled my dog beyond recognition. The wool is cut in pieces, on the other in some places there is a bald patch. It was terrible.Then she said that the dog did not allow either to brush his ear, or his teeth, even to cut off his nails. Then, i offer to hold him in my arms to give her the opportunity to cut his nails, she said come on Tuesday there will be another specialist. Then who she is? Also i think she is screamed or hit him, cause he was looks very scared. But, and the end i got the bill, were $23 were add, so i paid $83, for disgusting service + i waist money for nothing. This is Petco on86 street. I would put minus 0. I visited this Petco tonight as it was one of the few businesses that stayed open late on Saturday. Upon walking through the entrance, I noticed something to the right. There was a set of cages there and about half of them were filled with small cats. Some were sleeping by themselves but one cage appeared empty even though it had a name tag. Looking at the cage above it, a cat opened its eyes lazily to stare at us but the surprise was when another cat appeared from the left side with its adorably pitiful eyes. I assumed that one of the 2 cats sharing that cage actually belonged to the cage below it. Walking through the rodent section, I noticed a white mouse that appeared ill. Although it was active in playing on the wheel, there was a large ugly growth at its rear that distorted the placement of its tail. The bird section was basically 1 container with some colorful playful birds. The reptile section was spare with about 2 lizards and a small snake but there were signs on the empty tanks indicating that more will arrive. The fish section was about a quarter of the size that I usually see at other Petco stores. At least one of the tanks had an ill fish that was unable to maintain buoyancy. Continuing past the aquariums, I noticed a large cage in the middle of the store that was filled with more cats. A lady with a shopping cart had accidentally bumped the cage and she was making small talk with the kittens. There was a handwritten sign attached to the cage that explained how to adopt the kittens and the associated costs. My thoughts by this time was that cat adoptions was big at this particular Petco store, at least compared to the other Petco stores I've visited. Unfortunately, I am not able to adopt any cats and I am actually a fan of aquariums with which this store is lacking. read more

On the Moday July 1st my nephew went to the store and got me a long hair teddy bear hamster. Since we got him the little hamster didnt drink or ate anything at all. We made few calls asking them what to do, they advised us to give it few more days and if he still was sick to take him back to store so they can send him to Vet. We waited till Friday and i was worry the hamster was sick. My nephew took him back and after he had to surrender the hamster back to store as per manager, my nephew tried to guy another one. He was told by the manager Flor that she will NOT sell him another hamster because she didn't feel comfortable selling him any of her animals. He ask her why, and she told him because he asked :"too many" questions and because he return the One hamster that was sick. She was rude and Nasty to him to a point that my nephew -who is mentally disable- now keep asking what he did wrong? She made him feel very very humiliated because she made sure other customers hear what she was saying to him. And she made sure he was embarrassed and that she didn't care IF he will return to her store to buy anything. Yet, one of the workers at the pet place dont even care to hurt the animals, one of them didnt check that the tanks were empty and used a vaccum to clean tank and ended up sucking in one of the little hamster from which she ended up loosing an eye YET my nephew found out and he ended up buying the little hamster. How are she to make him feel like this. No ratings for this store. The Manager Flor is a very unprofessional person. Rude. Loves to humiliate customers and the store has other employees that are as rude as her. ONLY one that I know who is very sweet and very polite to customers is Jody. She should be the manager. NEVER AGAIN TILL FLOR IS FIRE WILL EVER GO BACK TO THAT PETCO STORE. read more

Love this Petco especially Yelsy. She is the best employee and most helpful. She is currently training our pup and is the most patient trainer. All employees, the manager are helpful and go out of their way to help you answer any questions you may have. Petco is my favorite spot to visit after getting a pet! read more

I love this place. It's clean and organized. That's always important. The staff are super nice. Jin the trainer is phenomenal. She's truly a professional with all my behavior concerns. My dog is a pain when it comes to baths. Samantha is amazing. She handles Charlie with love and care. She doesn't complain even though I can see the scratches that Charlie leaves on her arms. Charlie is always clean and happy when he is done. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I just wished that their online and in store prices were the same :-). read more

The staff here is super friendly and outgoing. They are always offering help if any questions. I also had my puppy come here for training with Jin. She is AMAZING!! Phenomenal , attentive, and helpful with all of my questions. Not to mention my little guy loves her. I had to write about my horrendous customer experience at this location today, so I went to the store to exchange a bag of kaytee brand timothy hay because the bag had bits of hay instead of long strands of hay. Let me explain, I did not have a receipt and the bag had a little less than half full of the product, however before bringing it back to the store there were lots of bits of hay instead of long strands even at the top of the bag, unfortunately I did not think too much of it. As the days went by and I was pulling more bits of hay out instead of strands I got annoyed. Once I got to the store, I let the cashier know what was going on that I have an exchange without a receipt, she did not smile or anything, she said that she cannot do a return and walks away and starts to help another customer. Now I walk up to another female at the other register and explain it to her, she looks at the bag and I start to compare kaytee to another brand they sell in the store and with an attitude she says that the kaytee brand is not oxbow, the other brand. I told her that I know that the brands are not the same. She said that I would have to reach out to the kaytee company, now why would I do that? Petco is selling it not me, Petco should make things right. Furthermore, she says that the policy is without a receipt and less than 50 percent full, she cannot do anything. Then, to top everything off, I start to walk away, I turn back and I see the "manager", the cashier and another worker giggling. I asked again, if their was a manager and she said with a tone that she was the manager. The service I received today was so appalling at Petco, I will not set foot inside another Petco. I understand their policy, HOWEVER it was not an empty bag, it had a lot of product in it, just make the customer happy especially a huge corporation like that. Those 2 employees know nothing about customer service or how to handle a dissatisfied customer especially with giggling. Honestly, 1 star is too much for this store because I have shopped here other times and had great experiences, but TODAY changed everything. read more

This place was the worst. I put one star because it needed to be posted other wise"0"stars would be given. I was going to purchase a tank for our turtles, my father who is 78 asked to use the bathroom, he was told they had no keys to the bathroom. Now my toddler had to go and I asked for the bathroom and was told the keys to the bathroom were taken by another employee home. They have no spare, no supervisor on sight. This petco is really close to home so when my 4 year old requested a pet fish we went here to select one. She wanted an angel fish so we went in and looked for a staffer to assist we finally find one only to be told no angel fish no fresh water fish at all NOT EVEN GOLDFISH, just betta fish which im skeptical of bc the last time we owned one it died rather soon. But not to let my daughter down we selected one and got some accsessories for the tank. The guy at the check out i wish id gotten his name was awsome he found the price for us bc there was no more on the shelf he was friendly and polite he made the whole experiance worth while. read more

This store is a ripped off...I called first to ask how much it would cost to give my puppy a full service bath and they said $41. So I went and my puppy got a bath and when it was done, I got the invoice and the price was $52..and I was like WTF, but didn't say anything because I didn't want any confrontation. I'm just never going back there again for any services. The products are also very expensive, I suggest you go to a independent store owner and buy instead of a chain unless they don't have the stuff you are looking for. read more

I don't know what people are talking about prices are high! I get my paper cat litter which is cheaper then any other store plus cheaper then online! The cat litter I get is a huge bag! The only thing that pisses me off is the cashiers! i'm like wtf man! one cashier sees the line going from far away to china! and she still talking like this is ball game! Pretty good store...they have a wide selection and are always super friendly, etc. Only things I don't really are for care their grooming prices which are kinda up there. It costs me $90 to groom my mini schnauzer when it's usually $60 elsewhere, and I do agree with the other reviewer about them always having dead beta fish. read more

There always seem to be slow lines at this place. Management needs to notice the long lines forming to add additional cashiers. Cashiers are friendly, but would help if they can ring up the merchandise quicker, or at least chat and ring up at the same time. One cashier chats, but stops ringing up the merchandise. Got fed up and decided my purchase could wait for an Amazon shipment (cheaper too). This place has a decent selection of food, treats and supplies. The parking is very convenient. Prices are higher hear vs. Amazon, but offer need it now convenience. Like other Petcos, they have on-site vaccinations each week, which is convenient. read more

$17 for a 5 pound bag of parrot Bird seed.... And it's not a resealable "zip lock" bag, so I'll likely end up with insects and not so fresh seed in the next few days. I usually go to a small local shop on bath ave (since the place on 86&17 closed) and I pay $10 for a 5 pound bag, and that is a resealable "zip lock" bag. Unfortunately I was out of seed and the local shop was closed by the time I got there. I could only imagine what kind of rip off higher priced stuff is if they are making seed up 70% over retail! Stay away! Go to your local neighborhood pet shop. Not only will you be saving money but you will also be supporting a small local business, who no doubt is dedicated to helping you with their vast knowledge, and will take the time to give you individualized attention to your needs. read more

Find a new groomer. After bringing my pup to this store (86th St. / Stillwell Ave / Brooklyn) several times over the last two years to be groomed, it seems like the first time or two they do a very good job. The grooming looks great, and my pup likes the groomer (Wynter). Then it goes bad. One groomer lied to my face once, saying my pup wasn't ready for pick up, only to have me walk home and get a phone call, the moment I get there from the manager of the store saying my pup is not the mood to be groomed, and needs to be picked up. I understand that, but I don't understand why the groomer didn't say that to me twenty minutes earlier when I was in front of her. For a short time the grooming wasn't available at that store. Then it came back Again the first time back, my dog looked great, and liked the groomer Tuesdai... Now comes August 2019. First, one appointment is canceled and rescheduled. Then the rescheduled date was canceled, and was rescheduled again. Then I take my dog in. It was not the groomer I thought I made the appointment with. When we arrived, the groomer looked at my pup and said she looks matted, and that she may have to shave her. That would have been fine, except when I picked up my pup - she was shaved, but the cut was totally uneven throughout her body. Some areas were shaved down to the skin, making it look raw. Some patches of hair actually still had knots. And then once I got her home, I see my pup had scratches and a slight cut behind her leg. Disgusting job. It made me extremely upset. I do not see myself ever going back again..... Oh, and the funniest thing, after the cashier finally got to the register she had the nerve to ask if I wanted to tip the groomer. read more

I recently purchased fish there and the employee actually used his fingers to grab the fish out of the net and place it in the container. Furthermore, one of the fish proceeded to jump out of the container onto the ground, and surprise surprise he picked it up and plopped it right back in. The same employee who used these methods even had the nerve to tell me that the fish at the Ave Y Petco always die, even though he drops fish on the floor and proceeds to sell them. The employees are clearly very poorly trained and have little to no knowledge about the pets that are sold there. Not to mention how difficult it is to even find someone to help you in the first place. read more

Grooming lost my dog! I brought my dog in for grooming and due to the grooming staff not properly leashing my dog he was able to escape the store through the automatic doors. Luckily I was there when it happened and was able to retreive my dog from the parking lot unharmed. I was not as lucky, as I fell in the parking lot during the incident and injured myself. I have contacted Petco several times over the past few weeks and have never heard back from them. They do not care about the safety of your pets or customer satisfaction. read more

BEWARE!!! Keep your dog away!!! Bad grooming service. I took my Bichon Frise today for grooming and they cut so much hair that you can see the skin underneath. The manager told us not to pay for the bad service but even that action does not correct the problem. Is the middle of winter and my baby girl now practically does not have any hair on her to protect her from the cold weather. Somebody should complaint to the company CEO so that they can fix the grooming problems, because giving people refunds for bad grooming services does not compensate for the stress caused by the dog groomers. I was quiet happy about having a Petco store within my neighborhood, but it was definitely not up to my exceptions. This Petco store seems a lot smaller than all the other ones I've been to. It is not busy at all. Not a lot of people. Short lines. Small selection of goods. But, they have parking so that's a plus. Oh, what they charge for grooming in Brooklyn is crazy. I paid around $70 to groom my havanese, compared to $35 in a local shop. I was definitely not impressed with their grooming at all!!! Will not go back for grooming. I will go back if I immediately need something for my dog or if I have nothing to do. read more

i was referred there by a friend of mine to the groomer, wendy, this was back in late 2011. wendy was great! she was so excited to meet my dog and knew exactly how i wanted my dog to look. she told me she owned two shihtzus as well so we bonded lol this location was def convenient for me as well since i live 4 blocks over. she even threw in a free cupcake scent which everyone adored! lol they only reason why i give it 3 stars is bc hercules was only able to experience the spa treatment once. wendy no longer works there. i was told she was the best by my friend who was referred from another friend. we all have shihtzus so its hard to find a groomer who is talented and knowledgeble. i wish they knew where wendy went so i could follow her ahahha u know how it is, once u find a talented and trustworthy groomer u dont wanna let them go lol wat was even better about wendy was that she was honest! i was under the impression that my dogs earhair had to be plucked monthly so he wouldnt get infections, etc. when i got herc back i noticed they were not plucked out. he started to really hate when i did them so i really wanted her to get them out. she told me it was not necessary and it could cause more irritation too! its relaxing to know ur dog is in good hands, its always so scary to hear about dogs who come back from the groomers with wounds or worse read more

NOT FOR FISHKEEPERS! Very small selection of freshwater fish and not too healthy the ones they have. Saltwater fish is virtually nonexistent. Adequate supplies if you're in a pinch. I live close to this one, but I would rather drive to the avenue Y one. They have a better selection of everything. 86th PETCO is great for dog grooming, but not much else. Try getting help from an employee! Good luck with that! read more

I love tropical fish and they didn't have that much when I visited there. Some of fresh water fish are dying or already dead. There's no saltwater fish. I don't recommend to go over there for fish food or tank equipments also. read more

I thought id love petco from all the commercials. My dog is my child and theres nothing i dont want to buy him. I took him there for grooming, not really the works since hes short haired and a boy. I wanted his nails clipped and a lil trim. After being told i HAD to get the works which was ridiculously high, i had a manager tell me shed charge just the nails and trim him b/c he was cute. When i came back with coffee he had his jacket on . I get home and hes SHAVED. My poor baby had such beautiful brindle red fur. He looked strange for a while but its ok. I think i should have been notified if she buzzed too close and was forced to even the whole body.. but oh well. I shouldve complained. christmas time comes and i seem ed to have been more excited for santa than anyone. Santa was a spanish guy with a croked beard, no gloves and using slang. The pictures came out horrible, no decorations and SO MANY DOGS CAME THAT THEIR WAS A HUGE PILE OF POOP IN ONE OF THE AISLES FOR A GOOD 30 MINS, NOONE CLEANED. Mind you i told 3 people that it was going to get ugly... The selection of clothes is VERY limited . I rather go to century or target . Those cookies by the pound in the front seem like a good idea but then i think about. "what if i ate these cookies? is this how i would buy cookies ? no thanks. all germy and crap. my dog deserves better than broken germy cookies. they should be prepackaged or dispensed. My only complaint is the older female cashier takes a good 20 minutes checking people out. God forbid the person in front of me is just as chatty, I have to wait forever. She's nice but holds up the line and is slow just scanning the items. I feel like finding out her schedule just so I know when to go there when she's not working in order to be in and out. read more

This petco never has the supplies on the shelves, I always have to ask someone to go looking for a basic bag of litter, and there are hazards that are easy to trip over, like open mop buckets full of dirty water. They have like 2 shopping carts, so you have to follow someone to their car to get one. Even some employees have told me "nobody does their job here." read more

I have been to this store multiple times and very often encounter the same issue: terrible customer service. It is very difficult to find someone to help you at this establishment. If you finally find an associate hiding out in one of the aisles, it is often a chore to get them to help you. There is a sense there that you are inconveniencing the associates if you ask them a question or request their assistance. read more
