I've tried over a dozen times to get a quote for grooming. The "get a quote" Yelp feature is a joke. There is no quote given. Corporate just sends a "please call our store" response. That would be great, except, no one has ever picked up the grooming extension and no one else in the store will give a quote. Three dogs with frequent grooming schedules are going somewhere else for grooming, because, no one can pick up a phone or give an intelligent response. *This applies to Redmond AND Bend, sadly. read more

Pet Training at Petco Bend, OR is fantastic. I have been twice in 13 years and the same trainer is still there. Loel Jensen has over 20 years experience in a positive dog training method. Classes are very small and her personal attention goes to each and every owner/pet. Her vast knowledge training you to train your dog has been so helpful. She is simply 5 stars all around. The rest of the staff are very friendly and ready to help. Their automated phone system is the worst and very annoying. The store overall needs a good, deep cleaning although the live animal sections are kept clean. I will continue to shop here and recommend Loel's training classes to all my doggie friends. read more

They can be light when it comes to having certain products in stock, however I really enjoy the store. It's a friendly environment, and I often bring my dog inside. They usually have what I need as well. Especially when it comes to high-end, safe, good grade dog food. As well as other things like bones and treats that are not indigestible, dangerous rawhide. There are plenty of friendly, healthy alternatives here. The staff is also friendly as can be and has a passion for pets. I do have a reptile as well and have some issue finding his more niche needs here. But thankfully there's a reptile zone shop here in Bend. But when it comes to cats and dogs? This store 100% has you covered. Plus, how can you go wrong with the rewards program? I get five dollars or more off a month, and I don't even spend that much here. read more

Worst Nail Trimming Service Ever!!! ***forced to give ONE STAR, should be NEGATIVE 5 STARS!!! I have been going to PetCo for my dogs nail trims for over a year. All the younger gals there just loved Shasta and were always happy to see her. While Shasta doesn't enjoy having her nails trimmed (grinding), with a little bit of love and a few rewards she always did just fine. In all my trips I noticed that when the manager (the only "older" woman) was there, the atmosphere was tense. She was never pleasant when checking us in, never happy to see Shasta, almost rude and it appeared as though she did not enjoy her job. The last time I was there she informed me that I could no longer drop in for nail trims because all of the groomers had quit and they were too short staffed to take walk-ins. I left Shasta with her and went into the store as I usually do. When I picked Shasta up after about 5 or 10 minutes SHE SAID NOTHING ABOUT SHASTA BEING DIFFICULT OR BITING ANYONE. Today, after making an appointment for Shasta's nails to be trimmed tomorrow, Kayla called me back and left a message saying "I'm sorry, we can't see Shasta because there is a note in her file saying that she bites." My complaint is that neither the groomer nor the manager who was there during Shasta's last appointment said anything to me about this at the time. I doubt that any dog loves to have their nails trimmed, Shasta included. But if treated correctly as any trained groomer would, she has always been fine. Aren't their groomers trained to handle all types of dogs whether easy or challenging? Isn't this why I am paying them instead of doing it myself? If Shasta is handled properly with patience and love (and TREATS) she responds in kind with lots of love and kisses! Shasta has NEVER BITTEN anyone and I do not believe she bit the groomer on her last appointment. Obviously I will not be using PetCo grooming services in the future. I will also not be shopping there for any other dog supplies, food, brushes, etc. I will go to one of your competitors like Mud Bay where they care about the dogs and humans that come into their stores. I will tell everyone I know that has a dog and is in need of grooming services to steer clear of the PetCo in Bend!!! read more

I try to avoid this place when I can, but did here for some fish supplies not long ago (heaters, filters, etc.) because it's close to my house, but will start going somewhere else for those too. I wouldn't say it's their fault, but my sister bought a guinea pig here and after a couple weeks it had a seizure. She called a vet who came and looked at it and told her that it had very likely had been dropped and hit it's head on the floor while at the store, which makes sense why it was on sale for $18 instead of near $40. She called and they kindly replaced it with any guinea pig she wanted for free. The reason for my low review is the Bettas. They looked very neglected and sick. It hurt me to see them and I went back one after that. There were a few that were covered in ich and other parasites. Some were missing scales, fin rot, very cloudy and unclean water, way to big (king betta) for their cup, dead. And there were so many of them, and something wrong with a lot of them. I understand that why they keep them in cups, but at least take care of them. read more

Terrible. The customer service is non existent. I stood in the aquatic section for 20 minutes waiting for help. Employees walked by and looked right at me and offered nothing. Finally I went to the front and asked if anyone could help. One of the employees who ignored me now helped. The fish I were interested were sickly it seems as half the neon tetras I purchased died within a day. The bettas are kept in dismal conditions. I did get a bonus with the plants I bought...snails. my tank was quickly infested and when I went to complain, I saw most of their show tanks were crawling as well. Just go to get supplies and get out. Dont even bother with the aquatics. read more

I feel that the staff and managers have been very helpful and informative with all my questions. Also Loel the dog trainer - I have had a few classes with. Her knowledge and experience has helped my with my pups. There was also a few issues I had with promos/Petco pals account and Bill the store manager was on it and was willing to work with me on how to rectify the problem. I have used them several times for grooming for my extremely hairy & ratted boarder collie and was never disappointed with their services. read more

I try not to write negative reviews. This review felt important because, like so many of the previous reviews suggest, this store is unacceptable. This especially pertains to beta, also addressed in previous reviews. We typically shop at local pet supply stores, specifically those who are not selling pets. We occasionally made an exception and visited Petco. We will not return as customers under any circumstances. Just before Christmas, we noticed several of their Beta fish were developing cotton wool disease. We repeatedly stopped in to check on them, as their staff said their "fish person, Julie" was out that day (that turned into at least 3 consecutive days in a row which made us concerned the fish were not receiving the minimum care needed in the first place). We noticed more and more beta were gone when we would come back in. An associate told us they "didn't know what was wrong with this 'batch'" (another piece of insight into how they view the fish in the way they refer to them) and that several of them were dying. We asked them to treat the fish, something they should be automatically doing...? When we would call to check in, the store associates were little to no help. We had an unsettling conversation with the manager who told us the fish was being treated with Metafix- a substance toxic to beta due to their labyrinth lung structure. When I shared this with him and asked why they would administer something like that, the manager quickly changed his answer and also quickly, and abruptly ended the call, without saying goodbye. We were stunned that he would talk to us that way. It made sense to me then that if the manager treated customers and even the fish this way, then the associates do, too. There is an extreme level of apathy toward customers and the HEALTH of the animals and fish they sell. The associates and manager exercise no accountability, no interest in the well-being of the lives they sell, and no interest in learning about my experience as a customer. This was reiterated when I spoke to "Dan," a "district manager" from Petco. I escalated my call to their corporate office, since it was clear the local store was not going to exercise care for the dying beta. His level of apathy, disinterest, and his focus being on what felt like proving me wrong instead of learning about my experience, helped me understand why this store is the way it is. He did not ask me a single question about my experience to learn more about it. Dan started our call by reiterating Petco isn't going to do anything about the way their beta are housed. Period. If you aren't familiar, beta are sold in tiny, plastic cups of stagnant water. Beta's need 5 gallons of filtered, heated water. Dan and his "third party vets" feel otherwise. Dan feels beta fish are "extremely hardy" and can survive being in several different types of environments, including cold water. Dan claims he "knows what betas need" and works alongside the "animal care team," yet Dan also feels beta will be "fine" in these containers because "obviously it's a short period of time." When I tried to tell Dan about my experience with considering adopting the beta that eventually passed away, Dan- instead of focusing on the much bigger, more important aspects of our conversation- focused on correcting me that "Petco doesn't do adoptions," that it's not part of their "policy." My choice of word "adoption" is not synonymous to "sell," by Petco's standards, or at least Dan's. Anyone at all interested in or familiar with animal welfare isn't using the words "buy" and "sell." They use adoption. ...cotton wool disease, which is deadly to beta, is PREVENTABLE with proper filtration and warmth. Please do not support this store with your dollar. It is filthy and under-nourishing to the mammals, reptiles, and fish they sell. I used to volunteer with a wildlife rehab nonprofit in Bend. Reptiles with soft bones were regular clients of ours. They were almost always purchased from Petco, where they are not given the proper lighting they need to synthesize vitamins correctly and build healthy bone. This is especially detrimental to babies, whose bones are growing rapidly. Petsmart is minutes away, if you are looking to adopt a pet. Manager "Jason" is extremely helpful, kind, and wonderful to talk to. Because of my experience with Petco, I've been doing research on what could be done to give beta more humane conditions while they are being sold. I took my ideas to Jason, who was eager to learn about my experience and genuinely heard my concerns regarding my experience at Petco- a store he's not even affiliated with. He took the time to brainstorm how we could change this industry and was sincere in his interest. Jason has made me a Petsmart customer if I am unable to find what I need at Bend Pet Express. Like several others in Petco, the beta I'd been calling about died... Petco did not take this seriously, I hope whoever reading this, will. read more

When purchasing my first ferret I asked how to go about litter box training and the employee told me don't bother trying they are stupid.... 2 years later I have 3 totally potty trained ferrets. In addition my ferret was severely dehydrated when I bought him and didn't know until I got home and gave him a bowl of water which he drank the entire thing he would have died! Also was told berries were good treats for ferret when in reality they are deadly ferrets cannot digest any plant proteins none are safe and can cause blockages and tumors, when I told the gentlemen that was telling me that it wasn't safe I was told I was wrong. Which isn't the case. Also on another day my friend went to purchase a rat and asked if she could pick it out and the employee laughed at her and walked away and didn't help us at all. This review is based on their grooming services. I travel the 30 miles from Prineville just to visit this place. This is by far, the best place to take your long-haired cat. My little Cleo is elderly with arthritis and can't take care of her own grooming habits anymore. After leaving petco, she's washed, fluffed, trimmed, her skin is moisturized, and she is so much happier. She smells great, and it's well worth the money. The ladies who work here take a lot of pride in caring for my little fur baby, and I'm so greatful for them. read more

I recently brought my golden retriever into the grooming salon to get a haircut, bath and nail trim. The new groomer(I believe her name is Dani) did a phenomenal job! She went out of her way to make sure I was happy with the haircut and nail trim. All of the girls in the salon are amazing and had great costumer service. When I picked him up, my retriever was happy as can be and looked amazing! I will definitely be bringing my pup back! read more

Marissa, Dog Groomer We started going to Petco for our dog's grooming on the recommendation of our vet. I find the group in the grooming room to be efficient, fun and professional. They do a great job handling the ins and outs in a very small reception space. Marissa does a fantastic job with our Sheltie, Maisie. For a small dog, there is ALOT OF FUR to deal with! Maisie always looks beautiful, smells great and is very proud of herself when she comes home. Marissa is quick to notice any problems, and is aware of a dog's health, not just how they look. I highly recommend Marissa and the team at Petco! read more

Okay, I'll admit that I don't typically shop here. I buy all my pet food at Bend Pet Express. Sometimes I buy kitty litter here because it's cheaper than some of the other places in town, BUT they have an outstanding dog trainer here named Loel. Seriously, she will help you. If you have a "problem dog" (really there is no such thing - I mean, all dogs are born awesome and people just tend to mess them up along the way) she can help you. She'll give you the tools to redirect your pup's attention to what is important: that delicious little treat in your hand! If you are at your wits end, like I was a few years ago because a poor little re-homed grumpy pup landed in my lap, give her a chance to help. Do not go here. Overpriced, slow service and they do not provide healthy surrounding for their animals that they have for sale. I made a complaint to their corporate headquarters about keeping their baby bearded dragons in sand because I know for a fact that sand is not safe for them to be in at such a young age because they can ingest it and get very sick. They didn't do anything about it and said that their corporate vet said it was okay. It's not. I've also heard from many people that the bearded dragons they have got from petco usually die. Also if you need reptile food, go to the reptile zone. It'll be 3$ for 30 crickets compared to 10$. read more

Dang. Not normally a store I frequent, but I was on a tight schedule so I couldn't make it to my regular supplier. I stopped in for fish, and spent 45 minutes in the fish area ( gawking at all the dead fish) with no sign of an employee. I decided to just move on and purchase at some other time when I went past the reptile area. As a reptile fan, with reptiles of my own, I usually peek in on what stores are offering. To my distress, what I found was appalling. First, there was the pastel ball python in a bottom tank that was completely swamped. It was obvious via the decay in the bedding that this animal had been in this swampy condition for quite a while. A ball python is an arid/semi-arid snake, not at all tropical, and these conditions are begging for scale rot and sickness. Some new unknowing pet owner is in for a surprise. But that's not the worst of it. What initially drew my attention was another tank with a spider ball python in it. Or rather, the frantic and somewhat muddled pacing back and forth that this nocturnal ball python was doing in the middle of the day... and the frequency in which it miscalculated it's targets, falling over clumsily. Other gawkers giggled at how "drunk" this snake acted. What I saw was a young, *hungry*, spider ball python with a clear case of wobble head syndrome. For those not familiar, this is basically reptile Parkinson's, and while it isn't uncommon in Spider pythons, it's something that should at minimum be acknowledged, ( not to mention it brings down the sales value considerably.) Also in the tank was a scrap of shed... so either this snake had been in the tank for a while ( and therefore wasn't just exploring new territory) or they'd never cleaned the tank out when the previous captive was sold. To top things off, the water bowl was full of mites. In clumps, there were so many of them. I again looked for an employee.. though I'm not sure what I would have done had I found one. It is clear the employees there have absolutely no clue about the care and feeding of their reptiles, and I can't in good conscience purchase the neglected critter, as I can't support a franchise that would fail to train their employees and have questionable reptile acquisition practices. I was already late for my appointment at this time, as I'd spent an additional 30 minutes in the reptile section observing this snake... still, with not an employee to be found. I had to leave before I could hunt someone down, but I sincerely hope someone at that store sees this and takes the necessary steps to ensure that the animals they are selling are cared for properly. Selling sick, diseased, genetically flawed, or parasite infested animals is something you'd think they would want to avoid.. read more

went in to buy some tropical fish and no kidding there were 15 + dead fish in one tank. in another tank there must have been 10+ dead fish stuck the the filter. i get that you have some fish die, but for goodness sake clean the tanks. it doesn't show that the employees or even mangers take good care of the fish there. disappointed to say the least!!! read more

I wouldn't return to this store simply because of the manager Tim. He was rude, unhelpful and caused a huge amount of stress when I was trying to find a replacement tank and stand. I purchased a 55 gallon from Petco and it leaked. Completely ruined my beautiful table. My carpet was also wet. Trying to find a something to replace it ended up with having to make a trip to the Redmond Petco. They were great. Took the new tank and stand how only to find that the stand couldn't even be put together because the screws couldn't even be out into the premade holes. Took the stand back to the Bend location and was met with extreme disdain and no sympathy. The setup was a gift for my husband from our kids. I tried asking Tim to help me find something that would work as a stand since my table that had held the previous one was ruined and the stand I purchased was defective. Just shrugged his shoulders and said "nothing I can do" After insisting I needed something to put the tank on besides the floor (this was at 8:45 pm and I had no time to go somewhere else) he finally showed me some 25 gallon tanks with obviously cheaply made particle board stands. The whole experience was a waste of time and caused so much stress. I left the store in tears and sat in my truck for 20 minutes just to calm down. The manager and his assistant manager (not sure if it was a man or a woman??) stared at me through the windows and laughed. Would never return there. read more
