I went in person to order a few bouquets of flowers for my 2 office workers who are twins and happen to share the same birthday date ( being stupid ) and I know that they love flowers and being the wonderful boss that I tell myself that I am , I had to get the girls some nice colorful and nice smelling flowers and petals and roots in Astoria came up big with 2 bouquets nicely wrapped and set. I first worked with Alex several years ago on flowers for a birthday party I threw for my sister at a French restaurant in LES, and she did a beautiful job. I reached out to her again this year, when I was planning a memorial celebration event for my dad that my family hosted at a venue in Battery Park. We couldn't have been happier with the stunning arrangements Alex and her team put together. We have not had our wedding celebration yet but felt compelled to share our experience thus far especially for the outstanding service and professionalism from Alex and the Petals & Roots team during the COVID-19 pandemic. A little about us (feel free to skip to the next paragraph): My boyfriend then and fiancé now has a bi-annual order with Petals & Roots of their NYTimes Rose Bouquet for my birthday and our anniversary. Every year, Alex and her team goes above and beyond and every year I fall more in love with him than ever. So when he got on one knee, without any doubt or hesitation, we declared Petals and Roots as our florist for our wedding. Fast forward to today, 6 weeks out from our wedding, NYC suffers at the hand of the coronavirus. Within 48 hours, the wedding we spent the last year planning has been snatched from us and out of sight. As a vendor in the wedding industry, I pride myself on providing my clients with the love and care I'd want as a bride and Petals & Roots have not fallen short of my tall order. It's not everyday we experience a pandemic and navigating through this crisis is unprecedented. Due to NYC regulations, we had to postpone our wedding because our banquet hall was shut down indefinitely. We support this decision by the government 100%. Needless to say, my fiancé and I are left with a devastating hand. We immediately reached out to Alex and she was happy to apply our deposit towards our new wedding date. We are honestly speechless with how perfect of a human Alex from Petals & Roots is and how beautifully she brought our vision to life for our wedding in September 2023. As a same-sex couple, Alex made us feel nothing but loved and accepted from the very beginning. Wedding florals were initially not a top priority for us but we're so happy to have found Alex as she made our wedding absolutely STUNNING. Everything from our initial conversation to the million questions we asked along the way, the entire process was stressfree and Alex provided us with patience and total clarity on all of our questions/concerns both via email and over the phone. Petals & Roots makes insanely beautiful flower arrangements. I never thought I would be walking down the aisle with my dream bouquet. I initially contacted Alex & Julia last October with my champagne taste and Four Loko budget. I had a very unrealistically low budget on flowers and almost decided to not have them at all. Alex & Julia patiently answered all of my questions and not once turned me away. They said they could always do my bouquet if we decide to move away from having flowers at all as centerpieces/decor. When I finally decided on flowers, I only ordered my bouquet, boutonnieres and corsages for our wedding party. I told Alex that I wanted the simplest white roses and eucalyptus. Alex and her husband are phenomenal. Alex sat with me for a consultation and I showed her endless amounts of Pinterest photos for my summer coral, rose gold and light Aqua themed wedding. She recognized every flower by name and I learned from her!! She worked within my budget and made recommendations for similar flowers that were more affordable and in season. Also, her sons are very cute and she treated me and my mom like family. When you go to the shop, you will wish your house was decorated as nicely as it is. Jess, who has a florist for a mom came home one day and told me about a nice flower shop in the neighborhood. I was excited about having a good florist (one that's passed her standards) nearby but was also a bit skeptical. Needless to say, being with a florist's daughter is a bit daunting. And we are in Queens and lets be honest, sometimes we get a little too carried away and everything tends to be a bit over the top. I.e. Teddy bears with hearts, cut out hearts, cheap red ribbons and all that flair. Two days before Valentines day I finally walked in Petals & Roots. The store is easy to miss especially during the day. They are situated right under the train. But surprisingly, albeit the weird location it was really, really nice inside. Teddy bears and cut out hearts were not in sight. Thank god! Alex was exceedingly, helpful. She paid so much attention to what my needs were. I initially wanted 2 dozen ranunculus. Yes, I did think that florists just have dozens of ranunculus sitting in the back. Of course they didn't have them. However, because Alex is awesome, she recommended another florist in the city. Why go elsewhere when you're already in front of someone so passionate about their craft, had great style, and was local? So, sadly I gave up on the ranunculus and worked with Alex to come up with an appropriate bouquet. I left the shop happily satisfied and excited that day. The flowers were delivered to Bahari. They were sitting at the hosts desk when we arrived. Jess immediately asked me if the were hers; I denied it. The waitress brought them to her after we ordered. An excellent bouquet it was. Normally, all that attention would leave me a bit embarrassed but these were really, really nice, I had to be proud. Thanks, Alex, you have completely impressed the florist's daughter. I would give Petals & Roots 5 stars, if the flowers lasted a bit longer; only some did. This, I think, is completely understandable as they are new and don't have that much customer traffic yet. The day of, less than an hour before the scheduled time, was notified that they would not be ready on time and would require an extra 90 minutes. Why? I came into this quaint little shop on a whim after work to buy a bouquet of flowers in remembrance of my mom. On my lunch break I went to a nearby florist, she offered me wilted flowers that were browning at the edges. I couldn't in good conscious get those for my mom so I left and turned to yelp for help. I stumbled upon this florist and went to check the place out after work. Upon stepping in the shop my nostrils were pleasantly greeted by a botanical/rose-like scent. It reminded me of my moms rose bushes. I couldn't make up my mind of what to get and the attendant was patient and kind. I settled on a bouquet that was beautifully arranged, and before I even left I knew that this would now be my go to florist from now on. This is a tough review to write. I had an extremely easy time working with petals and roots. They were VERY accommodating, extremely quick to respond and, honestly, just so pleasant. They were affordable and their offerings were right in line with market price. I loved that they were willing to accommodate additions to my flower package for my wedding. And here comes the however. Petals and Roots failed to deliver on the contract. We asked for one set of flowers and received something completely different. When pushed on this, we were told that "they could not source the flowers" and "they were not told they had to work with an additional florist". If you were unable to source the flowers required, they should have called and, instead, completely dictated and changed the look of a wedding for the worse. I should have had to decide what my wedding looked like and not you. The complete lack of apology was surprising as well. I can't say I WON'T recommend this place for smaller events lacking in consequence but the glaring error made for my wedding is one that I just can't forgive. read more

When I first saw the work that the Petals & Roots team did at my venue, I was in tears and just, well, blown away, I could not believe this was my wedding! When planning your wedding or event, you want to have a vendor you can trust, a vendor that alleviates any stress from the planning process, and a vendor that understands both your vision & budget. Take my word: You will not be disappointed with Petals & Roots. The moment I met Alex, I knew immediately I wanted her and the team to be part of my wedding. In fact, I was introduced to Petals & Roots before I chose my venue & date. I planned my wedding with a shorter-than-typical timeline, and to be honest, I only felt that was a possibility because I trusted the Petals & Roots team and was confident they would help not only help make this day extraordinary, but also add a positive experience to the planning process. My husband & I chose a partially-raw venue, whereby all decorations had to be supplied by my us. At my consultation, I shared my vision and some inspiration pictures and explained I don't really know how to go about getting this ... Alex & Julia just kept sharing their input and insight and knew exactly what I was going for. Throughout the planning process, they also shared additional insight into the wedding planning, such as best practices for working with vendors and helpful advice. They also worked with the venue aesthetic & structure, as opposed to working against it. I recall sharing a couple ideas, and they'd be like "hmm.. I think [this different idea] would actually be more fitting and ultimately help you achieve what you're going for" Among the many vignettes and various arrangements at my wedding, they created an installation above the dance-floor that was exactly how I was hoping for, a photo-backdrop-wall that was absolutely perfect, and bouquets that fit the setting of my ceremony. The bouquets differed from my venue arrangements because the Church setting was drastically different from the venue; the colors I wanted at the venue wouldn't have fit so well at the Church. I didn't really know what to decide on, so I let Alex & Julia make a decision based on the bridesmaid dresss swatch; the bouquets were perfect and my pictures look so beautiful! I chose her because I had passed her store window in my neighborhood so many times and was always drawn to it. So when we needed a florist for our December wedding in Manhattan, I checked out Petals and Roots along with two others in Manhattan recommended by our venue. Alex was more personable and creative than the other two florists I checked out, which I'm sure would have been lovely but felt a bit like the wedding flowers were just part of a pre-planned equation. On the other hand, Alex talked to me about my tastes and styles, looked at pictures of my dress, and then kept a folder of notes and photos that we shared with one another leading up to the date. She was extraordinarily responsive and accessible, and I loved how we used social media (like Pinterest) to share ideas. The week of the wedding, she met with me to view the venue to see it as it would be decorated for the holidays so she knew how to fine tune the floral details. On the day of the wedding, I had nearly forgotten that I had no idea what the flowers would look like (everything else, you always see in advance!). Then when one of her assistants walked in with the bouquets I was just blown away and giddy all over again. I had to run around the venue to make sure I took everything in. It was such a beautiful surprise to see the finished product. When the night was over, I was actually sad that I couldn't take all the flowers and centerpieces home with me, and I kept as many of the bouquets for as long as possible around my office and apartment. I wanted to hang on to them forever, but decided I could always relive them through the photos. I never knew just how much beauty the flowers could add to the wedding, and I could not have been more pleased about selecting Alex as our florist. When I was 38 weeks pregnant we stopped in here to ask for dahlias because that is what we were naming our daughter. They didn't have any but said they could get us some at the flower market the next morning. They called in the morning to say the arrangement was ready and we could come get it. It was absolutely beautiful and perfect. A large variety of types and colors of dahlias in a perfect bouquet. That night my water broke! Then to congratulate us, my dad ordered a bouquet of dahlias from here! He didn't know about our experience/recent order but the staff told him! What a coincidence!
