I've also been to tack/feed stores across Canada for years, so I've seen good/bad/ugly ones; I don't waste time if a shop is not up to certain standard (re: service, selection, pricing, organization, cleanliness etc.). When I first entered Mary N Mae's Tack N Feed in Port Colborne, I had a good feeling. The store was welcoming and well organized/well stocked plus the owner/operator (Mary...her lovely dog is Mae!) was really friendly and helpful, without being at all pushy-perfect. I think the store just opened about summer/fall 2024, so it's a work in progress, but you wouldn't know it; I just notice it's better every time I drop in. Mary now employs two local students, who are treated and paid well. These girls have made a really nice store even better, as they continue to organize and add creative touches. There's a good mix of new equine supplies (fly spray, liniment, bandages ETC.) and tack, along with used blankets/boots/clothing/tack/feed/bedding and so forth. It's a great place to browse...and buy, of course. The main floor has mostly new inventory, while the basement has more used items. If you are like me, it's blissful to wander through, checking stock out! If you're in a hurry, Mary will point you in the right direction, too. Although this gem of a store is mainly equine oriented, there is also pet stuff. Interestingly enough, Port Colborne has a lot of pigeon fanciers living nearby; in response, Mary has learned much about this hobby; the store features pigeon feed and other pigeon supplies. Mary takes in consignment tack etc. of course (with a very reasonable consignment fee, as opposed to the closest competitor). A lot of tack also comes from the well known non-profit horse rescue, Whispering Hearts, in the Hagersville vicinity...I think! So when you make a purchase, it's likely you are helping out WHHR, win-win. I've consigned quite a few items, and even over the slower winter season, I made enough money to go on a little spending spree, which was great fun. The prices are very reasonable; new items are very competitively priced, and consignment stock is extremely affordable. Of course, I didn't get paid to write this haha; I just read about the opening, and stopped in asap! But as an experienced tack shop customer, I have been super impressed with this new 'horse resource' we have here in lil' Port Colborne. Definitely worth a trip! I'm lucky I live only about 25 minutes away, yay. Thanks, Mary (and Mae) for opening this way above average store for equicentrics like me, and their horses, pet people...and all those pigeons and pigeon people. I am a super happy customer, and mega fan, ya think!?

Top to bottom and even on the floor. The right side is mostly for dogs and you'll see other items for rodents and snakes. And on the left side in a semi separated room, you'll see mostly cat and birds stuff. There's a cat roaming around there. I am allergic and so I was scratching and my eyes were itchy. I didn't know why until I saw the cat walking around. The owner / person working that day was a bit too salesy. I was already going to buy something but I almost changed my mind with all the upselling. The prices were pretty good (compared to my home state of California where I was visiting from) so I decided to get it anyways. They have cleaning supplies, food, beds, bandanas and more. It's local so it gets a bonus in my opinion since I always try to support local. 4 stars because prices were cheap compared to where I'm from but probably a 3 star store. So I'll give it a 3.

And when they're "too hot in the reptile room they grow wings and fly some of them". Like huh?? SoI try to explain I'm very experienced here - I'm retired but used to be very big in the reptile industry and bred thousands of my own fruit flies - and said I'm sorry but you're wrong. flightless HYdei HAVE wings and are genetically predisposed to not flying. It's a GENE. I told her yours are tainted with regular flying fruit Flies. Her answer - I'm not going to argue with you, you can just give them back. Then she repeats the same answer of why I have "some" flying around. They're ALL flying. I explained the gas would be more to drive there and return them, that I was now more concerned over the bad info she was pushing considering. She repeated the same untrue info on flightless fruit fly genetics. ?? Then she kept adding I'm not going to argue. My only concern for posting this is - what else do these workers push as qualified knowledgeable info to customers that is completely wrong?? It's a simple product and issue but her info on this is incorrect. I ran a hot professional breeding facility for 18 years. I breed fruit flies like crazy. I'm concerned that employees there are acting like they know when they don't and it'll hurt customers looking

This is a really nice store to get pet food in St. Catharines and I picked up a little bit before I came back across the border on the last night I spent in Canada. It's nice and they have plenty of good stuff up here. I fully recommend it to anybody. It's not cheaper than the US, but they do have some different (and some better) varieties.
