I use to have 5 shih tzus, now 4,as my oldest one of 19 years passed away only a few months ago. Ofcourse being the oldest he was the first to go through grooming and such.
I will admit that he was feisty and snapped every now and then, esp when one tried getting near his face. I recall when bringing him to YAYOI he used to dread entering. Literally trying to pull me in the other direction, and when I would pick him up he would claw onto my shoulder so i wouldn't let him go. I look back now and regret ever letting him get groomed there, but at the time my phrase was "he needs to get groomed whether he likes it or not." I should've noticed that every time I brought him home he would be EXHAUSTED, so lethargic that he would sleep for a day if not two days. He wouldn't even get up to eat. I should've noticed something wasn't right.
I recall one instance, my dog was kind of limping, and my mother had asked one of the groomers if anything happened and her immediate response was "no nothing happened, he didn't fall." EXCUSE ME? I never mentioned anything about falling, YOU DID. I probably should've mentioned something then, but really sometimes people are put into situations where at the moment you don't know what to do but when you have time to think about it, say 3 years, you realize this was wrong.
Then I brought my next two shih tzu's to YAYOI, and the same thing with them! I thought maybe this is how shih tzus are. They just don't like strangers, or getting groomed. It wasn't until one of my dogs woke up in the middle of the night of the SAME day of getting groomed that we had to rush her to the ER. She started vomitting saliva, shaking uncontrollably.
They had to keep her overnight.
Her brother stayed in the bed up to a week before being normal again.
I don't get what they do to them here? DO UNTO AN ANIMAL WHAT YOU WOULD WANT DONE TO YOU.
It was that moment that I realized that the problem wasn't my dogs but YAYOI's services. I immediately stopped taking them there.
I am aware that YAYOI provides decent, if not cheaper prices for the services, and OFTEN she implies she does favors for the customers-- but like they say You pay what you get for. I recall YAYOi would always charge me 5 to 10 extrra dollars because my dog would try biting her or I guess was being difficult. In the end I gave 10$ extra dollars to have my dog suffer. :(
Eventually, I found a more holistic place that they actually enjoyed strolling into. They would come out so happy. I recall my dog getting a "blueberry facial" once and after his grooming services came running out wagging his tail. I knew that for once he was happy. Unfortunately being a couple years ago, the place has closed. I recommend doing your research before you take your dog to any groomer!! Read reviews and check the ratings!
As for YAYOI, I believe she needs to understand that pets to most are like children. So it is in every customers desire to want the BEST treatment for their pet. I mean, if these were actual children being taken to daycare, you wouldn't keep them tied to a pole, while you took care of the other child- would you? probably not.
I write this review for the people who are looking for grooming services and happen to be directed to this grooming service. If your dog isn't taken care of at the "appointment time" and is left in a cage tied because they are behind schedule- then you probably should Not leave your dog there in distress. If you decide to test them out, see how your dog responds afterwards. It may not be worth it. READ THE REVIEWS ON YELP. Notice many mention their pets getting sick, its not worth sacrificing a small payment for the many bills that may or may not come afterwards at the ER or vet clinic.
Lastly if you take a look at her RECENT responses, which have taken her 2 or so years to respond to, she mentions doing customers favors in charging them "only 5 to 8$ more"-- um hello SOME PEOPLE make that in a whole hour! I also noticed one review saying "she doesn't like clipping nails just as much as the dog doesn't it like it." WHAT???????????? Shouldn't someone enjoy their job no matter the circumstances? why would anyone want their dogs to get their nails clipped by someone who doesn't like doing it??
TO YAYOI: Patience and LOVE for all animals walking through your doors.
this review is in memory of my beloved dog, who was put through many tortuous grooming sessions here. I write this to protect other future pets and pet parents from what may or may not happen at YAYOIs. read more
